I'm not often in Plain City, but my sister-in-law had been raving about Red Hen for quite a while, and I finally had a chance to try it. First, let me say, this place gets BUSY on a Saturday. Parking can be challenging at times (I circled the block twice before a spot opened up). They have two patio areas so you can sit outside when the weather is nice. They have a pretty standard coffee menu, with seasonal offerings, and a lunch and breakfast menu as well. Let's talk about the coffee - I tried their blackberry blossom latte - and if I was wearing socks, they would have been blown off. Best latte I've ever had, and it's not even close. I also tried a half order of the Nest, which is a small skillet with hash browns, eggs, sausage, cheese, and gravy, with a side of toast. The perfect breakfast ensemble! It was delicious, and was scarfed down in short order. I can't recommend this spot enough. Worth the trip out to Plain City! read more

The GOOD the BAD and the UGLY: THE GOOD: Cinnamon rolls with cream cheese, toppings happening, and the cinnamon filling to make you smile all the way home. For Conro slathered with caramel and a healthy portion of pecans scattered on top. Breakfast sandwich? Got it! Coffee drink? Got it! For being out in the middle of nowhere there sure are a lot of cars here every single time I've ever showed up. It's packed in the parking lot. You have to almost get lucky to get a slot. There's a line around the building when you come in the morning on a Saturday. Despite the busyness, I called ahead for 12 cinnamon rolls and it was ready when I got there. It's gonna be a very happy group receiving a little bit of heaven when I show up. THE BAD: The bat is good so there's really nothing bad about this place. Pros: Sandwiches are served on homemade bread. Daily specials with lots of tasty sounding options (i.e. cheesesteak, mac and cheese). Food comes out quickly even when busy. Portions could be enough food for two meals depending on appetite. Cons: Reuben sandwich was drowned with dressing. Tables very (too?) close together. Wow why have I passed this place so many times and wanted to stop, but didn't because either the parking lot was full or they were closed. Yesterday I made a plan to go in and we have not stopped talking about it. Cute atmosphere, very nice people and great service. My husband had the nest and it was so perfect and full of flavor (the gravy yum) I had the pesto chicken panini and yum yum! This place is AMAZING! I have gone there the last 4 days in a row! The first day, I wanted to try a little bit of a few things. Got the strawberry cloud donut, biscuits and gravy, chicken panini, and iced lattes. The other days, I had the nest, breakfast burrito, hashbrowns, avocado toast, more biscuits and gravy, and more lattes! All of the food was amazing, that's why I keep going back. The service is nice and quick as well. They were so nice and efficient. The inside has a cute seating area with a fireplace. Then, I found out about the drive thru. My BFF and I drove up here as a surprise to her. She knew we were going to a cheese place down the road but not here. The food and drinks here were amazing and I highly recommend. The service was wonderful and they bring items to your table or bench. It did get packed in here on a Saturday afternoon so be mindful. The is a fun little cafe with some amazing food choices. The Red Hen Cafe & Bakery is a gem with friendly service and a delicious menu. It's no wonder that during our time there, there was a regular stream of customers coming both for dine in and carry out. The dining room has a variety of table sizes from larger community tables to 2 and 4 tops. Even though it is one of the few options in Plain City, the quality of the offerings here is still very high and would do well even if it was placed in nearby Dublin or other larger areas of Columbus. We had the breakfast burrito, a maple donut, the croissant sandwich and a few lattes. Everything was delicious, but I still want to try other offerings based on what we saw coming out of the kitchen. We look forward to coming back and trying more of the offerings here. read more

This restaurant appears to be a popular hangout in Plain City, and fortunately, there is ample parking available. While the pastries and fry pies look fabulous, our focus was on lunch. My husband had the Red Hen Burger and he enjoyed it very much. I opted for the Chicken Pesto Panini. Both dishes came with kettle chips and a pickle slice. When the panini arrived I was surprised to find it toasted on both sides of each bread slice, which made for a very, very crunchy experience. When paired with the the crunchy kettle chips this dish became a crunch overload for me. Overall, we would like to return and try some of their pastries and other lunch entrees. read more

This is in the old Jan & Tony's pizza shop location. If you were ever in there, this is unrecognizable. They changed the whole inside of the place. The entrance is in the back now. Decent parking. It's really cute on the inside. It has garage doors that can open when it's nice outside. Very country and cozy looking. We went in and ordered. Looks like they are adding a drive thru. It's not done yet. Ordered at the counter. There was a decent amount of tables. It's seat yourself. Looked like it was kinda community seating at larger tables with others if you have a small party. Order at the counter and if you take a table they give you a number to take to the table and they bring it out when your food is ready. For us we ordered and waited in the little seating area with a little glass fireplace. It was super busy and it didn't take long at all. We ordered 3 breakfasts and 2 coffee drinks and it was ready in like 10 minutes! Also, it was only $30 total. We ordered The Nest, which is their signature breakfast. It was delicious. The gravy had a great flavor. The strawberry jam was good. Guessing they make it. I dunno. We got a breakfast burrito and a croissant sandwich. The hen sauce was really good. Everything was great. We will definitely go back. I got a Red Hen Mocha. It's caramel and white chocolate. Delicious. My husband got a vanilla latte and enjoyed it alot as well. The pastries looked amazing. Very different than the pizza place that was here before (that I liked.) And pretty good. Breakfast and lunch menu and hours. Busy, all the time it seems. Big parking lot. Order at the counter and they bring the food out. Super friendly service, a little slow just because they're busy. Lots of interesting food items, and coffee variations. They seem to do the baking themselves, not avail themselves of Der Dutchman goods. Good prices. My friend got the breakfast burrito and liked it. I got the sausage gravy, because of course I did, and because the menu specifies that both the gravy and biscuits are homemade. And both are pretty darn good. Flaky biscuits that still hold up to gravy. Gravy comes in a big bowl on a small plate where the biscuits sit, so I just tore them up and plopped them in. Creamy gravy, decent amount of sausage, seasoned enough that I didn't need hot sauce. Not quite the thicker style I love (and make) but very good. The Nutella coffee I got was also quite good. Not quite 5 stars, because the experience was kind of stressful. No matter when I come it is packed, and hard to find a spot for even two people. I think they should have built the dining area a bit bigger. And there are always little kids, and too many parents do not keep them in line. Not the restaurant's fault, of course, but makes it loud and annoying, and will probably keep me from coming back. Two times with the same crowds and noise on weekdays mid-morning; I'll pass. Maybe an expansion and some sound deadening design/decor would help. read more

Oh my! We were lucky enough to have a family bring these to us teachers at school. Wow oh wow. The donuts are delicious. I don't know how to describe the dough except for dense but yet fluffy. Makes no sense but they are perfect. The maple glazed are delicious. Sometimes you get maple and it tastes artificial, not these!!! We are sampled the blueberry and what I assume were carrot cake muffins. Both moist and deliciously exciting. The true winner here is that the taste is not artificial. Looking for a place other than my normal spot, I found The Red Hen. It is a beautiful little spot that was hopping with customers. They have a select number of tables that are larger and can be shared with groups of people outside your party. They do have some smaller tables but most are large. You order at the counter and then find a seat. They have some delicious looking pastries and cinnamon rolls. I ordered the breakfast bowl that had a bit of everything in it, with an iced chai latte. It was all delicous, the latte creamy and full of flavor. This is a fantastic little spot, that already has me pondering the next time I will be back. I hope it's soon! read more

1st time for me here.. It was a very small, quaint, but cozy place that was quiet and peaceful....looked very clean. You have to order at the counter. My co-worker suggested various menu items that they had already tried. I settled on the "full nest" with idea of taking some home. They got my order wrong and gave me the half nest. It was very, very good tho...Also, they hv a pretty tall number system that sits on a stand... which you sit on your table which identifies & connects you w/ your order....well at least it is ...supposed to work that way. We saw the waitress take my order to two other patrons who came in this establishment way after we had, so we tried to get her attention, but we failed. She left my order on their table and walked away. After about 3 or so minutes, the patrons got her attention to tell her, that was" the nest"... & neither of them had ordered "the nest"....By that time, I was starving, but dissatisfied w/their inadequate number system. Didn't like someone breathing on my food while conversing with each other. I didn't want to " be the problem", so I tried to eat it anyway. It still was hot and good. It was small though... knowing I had ordered " the full nest", I wasn't satisfied w/ the size that was brought to me. Looking at the pics on the website, helps me to realize, they got my order wrong. Other than getting my order wrong and giving my order to the wrong person.., the food was good. They gave me "the half nest"....Not sure if I will try them again. Live in powell but have been reading about this place. So glad I went and had Ana amazing brunch. The place is so cozy and clean. Despite or as a result of the community seating, feels like you are sitting in someone's home. I had the kale salad along with a piece of quiche. Outstanding! My hungry son had the full breakfast platter. It was fairly filling for him. We split a cinnamon roll and brought one home to another sibling. Not one complaint, and will be going back! Stopped in for lunch today and was not surprised to find quality food, friendly service and pretty good prices at this cozy little spot in Plain City. The decor is well done with a variety of seating arrangements. A bar top facing outside if you are there alone, a large table for a family and various 4 top tables. Not to mention the conversation area to sit with a few friends and sip on their coffee creations. Not much space but the food came out quick so if it's full I wouldn't expect a huge wait. You order at the counter and find a seat and they deliver to your table. We ordered The Nest which is a breakfast skillet dish that's available for lunch and breakfast. It was very good, especially the gravy. We also ordered the Pesto Panini Sandwich. It wasn't very panini-ish as I would have expected a sturdier bread and the trademark panini press marks, but it was still good. The chicken actually tasted like chicken which is a nice change from chain places. Not a huge menu but it's varied enough for everyone to find something to try. I will be back to try some of their bakery items, the cinnamon rolls looked delicious!! I've tried this place twice now and both times have been good! I got The Nest which is so good. It's like a hash with hash browns, egg, cheese, sausage, and bacon. I also got the sausage gravy and biscuits which were just as good and they use the same gravy on the Nest. I also got the 6.1.4 coffee drink and you can have it made cold, hot, blended which I think it's like a frappe. The place is small with some tables and communal tables plus a high top counter to sit at. Tree he service is quick and all the lovely ladies are sweet and helpful. read more
