Have been a regular for over 10 years. Quality is always elite. Great value. Supper Red Onion

I'm always a fan of these old school diners. They have decent amount of seating inside despite being a small diner. I ordered their cheeseburger with everything on it. They use mustard and mayo for sauce, which was a bit weird, but tolerable. I'd definitely skip the onions next time because they were overpowering to the point it was burning a bit. Everyone hyped up the fries but they're a bit too expensive for my taste. I did end up getting the Oreo shake though. I wish things were a bit cheaper but it's hard with inflation. Overall, thought this place was pretty decent so 4* it is.

One of the best burger joints in the bay area. Been coming here ever since I was a kid. The burgers are made fresh on the grill and the french fries are fried to order. Everything comes out hot and fresh. Small quaint place with counter seats and a few table. The cook and the owner are very nice and accommodating no matter what you order. Do yourself a favor and if you're ever in El Cerrito, stop by and give it a try.

Lettuce wrap, bacon cheeseburger with avocado

I ordered a regular cheeseburger with extra cheese, bacon, avocado, and mushroom in my normal lettuce wrap with onion rings on the side! I would've included a picture, but I was so hungry. It was so good oh my God ! If you haven't been here yet you're missing out.!!!! Good food not overly greasy and great service with a parking lot even! I'm sorry, but it's time to take a nap LMAO!

Friendly service, good food. Prices are pretty good too. Old schools diner vibes. Great alternative to all the fast food chains in the neighborhood.

Cheeseburger (no onions)

I stopped by The Red Onion as it's a short walk from my place and had their cheeseburger--it really hit the spot. The burger was flavorful, juicy, and had that classic, no-frills feel that just works. All burgers come with the works - lettuce, tomato, onion, mayonnaise, and mustard - cheese and other options (like bacon) are exra. The service was quick and friendly, which I appreciated, and the overall vibe of the place has a nostalgic charm--kind of like an old-school roadside diner. It's a little on the small side inside with limited seating. Overall, a solid spot for a casual bite.

Nice people that work there but the food is way overpriced. Nations is better and cheaper.

Found this place in Richmond Ca just by passing by. Let me get straight to the point. This place was clean! The griddle/flat top cook station was CLEAN and maintained clean as I was sitting there eating. The cook takes pride in what he does. The son of the owner also kept busy keeping things clean and tidy. Now on to the taste, the burger was real juicy, had good flavor and all the ingredients were fresh. Thier system on how the cook and put the food together works. All the food ordered is cooked to order and not precooked not even the fries. The bread is toasted when rhe order is placed. I'm telling you they have a solid system. Friendly, fast, clean staff and good flavor and tasty burgers. 4 out of 5 stars only because my sisters burgers are the standard at 5. Otherwise to visit these guys and eat a good burger.

Lettuce wrap burger

Super friendly service. The chocolate milkshake was excellent, rich and creamy. The ham and cheese on sour sourdough was terrific. There was lots of cheese and the sourdough had a good tang. The fries were hot. I had a lettuce wrapped burger. The burger fit the lettuce. It was not too drippy. The restruant is small but they have tables and counters to sit at. Everything seemed clean. They have a regular customer base and a popular.

The owner and staff members were so personable. They made sure we were taken cared of. You just don't get that level of customer service very often! It's a casual space with tons of seating. My absolute fav part of the meal was the dessert. WOW. The peach and strawberry cobbler was so fresh. You can even smell the butter before taking a bite. The vanilla ice cream brought everything together. A bit pricey, but definitely worth the splurge!

He also asked if he "wanted onion," as well as asked our friend the same, "would you like onion and cheese?" However, the server neglected to mention that every suggestion he made was an extra charge of $3-4. The burger that started out as $17 ended up costing $27 at the end! It was odd. The check was not itemized when it first came, and he had to ask specifically for an itemized receipt to explain the up charge. It's disappointing! The communication could definitely be better.

Without even looking at it he refused to honor it and immediately cited "change of ownership." I'm not 100% sure that's legal in California, maybe under certain strict circumstances? But it sure isn't good faith for a previously enjoyable establishment nor does it make long-time customers likely to come back. The waiter quickly recited all the things they were out of and when I needed a repeat (because it was a lot), he seemed a bit impatient and put out. (The place was empty except for one other table.) We ordered fish & chips, and it was... okay? It looked like someone had simply thrown the food at the plate and that's how it was presented. There was a white sauce that I'm pretty sure was just plain mayo. A bottle of malt vinegar was provided on request but after all this, I was afraid to ask for ketchup, or really anything else. It's unfortunate because it was nice to have a place to go within walking distance and near to the theater, but after this experience I can't see myself going back for anything ever again.

After trying my first Dave's in Pinole, this was my 2nd and had the same experience: consistent. This one is in El Cerrito Plaza Shopping Center by the BART station. I ordered Dave's # 2: Two sliders with fries and comes with pickles ($17.49). I chose the medium with heat options of No Spice, Little Mild, Mild, Medium, Hot, Extra Hot and Reaper. I also got a side of Kale Slaw ($4.59) and added a large Crispy Fried Pickles ($7.99). Mind you, this was a snack, so the sliders were the perfect size. One for me and one for the wifey and we shared the rest. The chicken is crispy on the outside but was simultaneously moist and tender inside. The heat level is basically how many (or how little) they sprinkled on the spice powder. The side of Kale Slaw provided a nice buffer to cut out the saltiness as it's a nice balance of crispy, fresh veggies with a sweet and tangy flavor. I also loved the side of pickles that came with the # 2. They're just plain pickles, and they were definitely better than the Crispy Fried Pickles (skip in my opinion). These were overly seasoned and salty to my liking. I ended up removing the breading just to get to the pickles inside. I also found the price to be too steep to justify the price and quantity that came with it. Overall, it's a solid sandwich that makes chicken right. Better than KFC, but not Popeye's and Jollibee.

It came with a side of coleslaw (3.5 Stars) and spiced honey (3 Stars). They fried a whole breast, it was so large that it over flowed the toasted brioche bun. The only thinking that made it spicy was the homemade spicy mayo, so it wasn't that spicy. I noticed on the menu they have sauces, like Nashville and buffalo. I think next time I'll try one of those sauces to kick up the heat. The cheese I add was not needed, I should have left off. The Fries (4 stars) were coated with potato flour and seasoning, which made a great crispy crust, served hot. Mac N' Cheese (4 Stars $6.49) I ordered the small 8oz, it was corkscrew pasta covered with a cheese sauce that was awesome with some Cajun spices, a like dirt Mac and some extra cheese on top. The burger was fresh and flavorful--you can taste the quality in every bite. The onion rings were on point too: crispy, not greasy, perfectly cooked. Dipping them into the habanero mayo gave it just the right kick. Definitely recommend that combo. The staff was friendly and kept things cool even though there were only two or three people running the place. The spot itself is small, just a few tables and chairs, with a little bit of Latin music playing in the background, which gave it a nice touch. When I first got there, it wasn't too busy, but by the time I finished, it was filling up. Walked around the block to stretch out, came back 15 minutes later, and the place was packed. What's also impressive is that their fried chicken sandwich was voted one of Yelp's Top 50 Fried Chicken Sandwiches in California, ranking #33 in the state. That's what I'm definitely trying next time. Final verdict: Great burger, great onion rings, friendly service, and a spot worth checking out if you're around University Ave in Berkeley. Two thumbs up from me.
