    Double smash burger
    Mari B.

Best Smash Burger I have had! Cal's is a small location but they do offer indoor seating. The wait can be a little long depending when you go, but trust me, you will be happy to wait when you taste the flavors! Everything was spot on and delicious. Parking can be tricky but there are a few parking garages in the area that aren't too far.

Yum Yum Yum!!! I seen Cal's burger on Instagram and decided to try it. I am in LOVE with burgers, and I haven't had a good one in the Bay Area in a while!!! Babyyyyy- these burgers wouldn't let me forget to make this Yelp post! Because I had them yesterday and my mouth is watering for them today. They are smashed to perfection and the toasted bun is like everything and more. Something as so simple as them toasted our buns makes a huge difference- the burger is so satisfying like nothing was wrong with it. I got the double smash with everything on it and added bacon- had mines cut in the middle to tackle better. My friend had theirs plain lol no veggies really just double smash with cheese - and loved it as well. Now the fries... they look very regular when they came out I was thinking I might not be a fan of these!!! But no!!! THE FRIES ARE THE BEST- I can't really put my mouth on what they do to them but they have a different taste and crunch I loved them!!!! * I will say customer service was a bit dry wish it was a bit more energetic- especially since this is a great place and it was not later in the day we came around noon... but everyone has there day - so I get that. Man please check them out, because I'm ready to grab my coat and head back there now!!!!

Came here with a big hungry group and we all really enjoyed it! We left stuffed and many of us even had leftovers. The guy who helped us was super nice and helpful. I had the single smash with onions rings and I thought the burger portion size was perfect, seasoned well, had great flavor! Loved the pickles. I also had some of the Mac n' chicken which was tasty. The chicken was crispy and moist, and Mac was gooey. They give you a little honey to drizzle too which I tried and thought was a nice sweet and savory combo. Others said they enjoyed the chopped cheese and chicken sandwiches they got. Would come here again and definitely recommend!

I came here with a group of 6 and we had no issues getting a table. The staff was friendly and worked diligently to get the orders out despite being fairly busy. All of the food was really good and was cooked very well. I recommend giving them a try if you're looking for a good burger.

Food was good and fresh. Burger was juicy and flavorful. Chicken is fried well and well seasoned. Quick service and prep. Ample seating. Little chilly with the door open but overall a great experience. Parking is hard to find even on a Sunday. Will definitely be back.

Fiber on the meat at the top

I was pretty excited to eat here based on the reviews on Google but my experience was ruined by whatever they sat your food on after it's cooked. I ordered a double cheeseburger and added bacon with seasoned fries. Everything would have been delicious if I were someone that just shoved in my face but I look at my food so I kept seeing fuzz/fibers on my fries. I'm like what is this?! It was on the fries and the burger. That's so unsanitary and they say they sit your food on napkins but napkins don't shed fibers like that. I can't return with that practice in place when strainers come in all shapes and forms.

It was nice and really welcoming, the service was really good and the food was bomb as hell. The prices are cool ig but other than that the place was a vibe.

This was my first time here, and I ordered the double smash burger. The burger was delicious and juicy, and it came with seasoned fries. The service was quick and simple . I would definitely return to try something new.

    Raw shrimp in po boy.

Place is reassuringly busy. Made my order relatively quickly. Waited almost half an hour for my sandwich, which was fine; it was busy. But I got to watch people get their orders after they ordered after me. Certainly forgivable; hectic service, there's only one guy in the back, it happens. Got my food at last; only to find out later it was raw in parts, undercooked in the thinner areas. No biggie; I'll finish cooking it at work.

One of our coworkers recommended Gather, a large, farm-to-table restaurant, so five of us ventured here for a business dinner. The food and service were definitely 5 stars. Great laid back vibe. We came on a Tuesday night and yet the restaurant eventually got busier through the night. My favorite dishes were: Yellowtail Sashimi and Corn Riblets are both great appetizers and full of flavor. We should have double ordered to split among five. The half roasted chicken had crispy skin and was fairly well seasoned and moist. I don't indulge in desserts as much these days but if split a few desserts among five people you get 1/5 the calories, LOL! I recommend the warm bread pudding, pecan sundae, and salted chocolate chip cookies. In case street parking is difficult (it often is in Berkeley!), the restaurant is located right next to Oxford Garage which has a low flat fee for weeknights.

For our drinks, I had the Moonlight Blossom, my aunt had a glass of red wine, and my mom had a cucumber mint spritzer (mocktail as she was the DD). The moonlight blossom tasted similar to cherry limeade. The entrees we had were the mussels, veggie burger, and the chef's market pizza. The mussels themselves were tasty and appreciated that they were able to leave out the chorizo. However, I wish that they brought a spoon and there was more broth. I tried some of my mom's veggie burger and the red color from the beets made it stand out from the usual veggie burger. The fries tasted homemade. I had a slice of the pizza and while I like the ingredients themselves, the combination just didn't do it for me. The crust was good though! We also shared a green goddess salad, which was tasty. The desserts looked amazing but we had no room! Service was friendly and our waitress made good recommendations. Can park on the side streets or the garage. Restaurant was not noisy. Would come back to try other items, especially dessert.

I've been here for date nights, holiday dinners, business dinners, and countless meals with friends visiting from out of town. It's one of those rare restaurants that seems to work for just about any occasion. The service is always great, the College Avenue location is hard to beat, and I've always had good luck finding street parking nearby. The ribeye is my personal favorite and what I order more often than not. If you're coming with a group, the cheese and charcuterie plates are a great way to start. The menu is varied enough that there's always something for everyone, and I've never had a bad meal here. I was genuinely sad to hear that they'll be closing at the end of the year. Restaurants with this kind of quality, consistency, and character are increasingly rare. If you've never been, make a point of going while you still can. I'll certainly miss it once they're gone.

The sandwiches come with a side, so one plate we did fries with a house-made aioli and the other plate, their quinoa kale salad. Delicious. Such hearty portions! The bread is so fresh, the meat juicy and ample, and flavors just right. We also ordered beer on tap, shoutout to Oakland United, and tried their house-made hot sauce that they also sell by the bottle. Would love to come back to try brunch here too. I also saw a patron ordering the quinoa kale salad with fried chicken, and yes, that's the vibe! Pricing is fair for the quality and quantity, and street parking available (although the restaurant is located at the bottom of Solano where it tends to be a bit more busy). My family made reservations, which are hard to come by. They need to be made well in advance. We arrived before our 8:30pm reservation and, unfortunately, weren't seated until after 9:00pm. Once inside the dining area, it was lively and loud, intimate, and somewhat more formal compared to their upstairs cafe. Service from all staff was kind; the host occasionally stopped by; our food was delivered, and we were checked on throughout. It was also lovely to peek inside the open-air kitchen. If you dine in their dining area, it's prix-fixe. On my Mom's birthday, they had a salad, pasta, steak, and ice cream. The salad was good--I don't eat mushrooms, but found it tasty and a bit over-dressed. My favorite was the pasta, a little spice. Warm from the noodles but cold from the cheese--the shrimp was nicely cooked. For our entrée, we had a rib-eye. I don't eat steak, but for this occasion I did--it was good, but because I rarely eat beef, I couldn't compare it to other rib-eyes I'd had. The vegetables were good and quite fresh. I gave the ice cream to my family since I don't have dairy, but the fruit was great! Overall I enjoyed more dishes than others. The bread and drinks were also good. I'd be curious to come back for a different prix-fixe. Chez Panisse is a must visit once restaurant in my opinion--whether you're local to the area or live in the Bay Area. Alice Waters is famous and has won a multitude of awards for a reason. I'm happy to have finally dined here and celebrated my Mom's birthday.
