This place is NOT a bar. Ice buckets of Miller High Life & Pabst do not a bar make. We came in during the Santa Clause pub crawl and there was a big empty room connected to a room with shampoo chairs in it and a couple of ice bucket stations. Peculiar, a hair salon and food service are to me a turn off, akin to buffets at a strip club. The space is cool, in an old building in Lodo. But the concept is just too off-putting for me. I had afternoon drink here with a friend and found the service slow and strained. read more

I frequently visit Retro Room on my lunch breaks considering its less than a block away. I absolutely love the ambiance in here as well as the music selections. Erica and Gonzo are by far the best bartenders I've encountered. They're always very welcoming and are quick to make anyone feel comfortable. I love their burger, beer and fry special for $6. They have other menu items that are all affordable and great for a quick lunch. The food is always yummy and served pretty quickly (which again, is perfect for a 30 minute lunch break!). I also can't get over their AWESOME infused vodka selection. I'm obsessed with their apple cinnamon Moscow mule, it's delicious. I'd also recommend their pickle shots, as that's probably one of their most popular menu items. If you're in the area, please do yourself a favor and check out the Retro Room. Every time I've visited, I've come in happy and left happier. What's a better experience than that? read more

Just my haircut here and Floyd's 99 Barbershop has lost a longtime customer as a result! Wednesdays from 4-9pm are "Guys Night Out!" at the Retro Room Salon and for only $15, you get a haircut, beer, shampoo, head massage, style and blow-dry! Plus, next door at the bar has a $6 wings (prefer boneless honey chipotle) and beer deal. Hands down, you cannot beat this combo deal for $21... anywhere! The set-up of a bar and salon is very unique and a must-see. Don't let it fool you in believing it's a joke of a salon because it's far from as it's a full service, upscale and comfortable place for men and women (primary clientele) to get a wide variety of beauty services completed. The haircut I received, however simple, was done flawlessly and looks great. Speaking of looking great, the staff at the salon is gorgeous! Yes yes yes!! I was here once before last Fall for a drink, but the other night my lady wanted me to get my hair cut by Anna. Being the trusting soul that I am, I agreed. It starts out with your first drink being on the house, which is always the way to my heart. (Free + alcohol = Happy Jeffy). The bar has great selections on tap as well as other libations, (infused vodka's!) and the food offered is tasty high-end pub grub. The bartenders were great and really on their game even as it got busy later on. Anna does a great job, and I will now be going to her for the haircut. She spent the time to talk to me and suggest something, and while I wasn't sold at first, I'm happy I listened to her. (During the cut, you can order more beer! Just sayin...) Have been here several time, and every time it's awesome. The pickle shots is what this place is know for and they don't disappoint. A lot of people talk shit about the front door guys, but honestly the only time I've seen them not letting people in or having to escort someone out, it was only because of the actions of the other person.... people if you can hold you liquor and then think it's a smart thing to talk shit to a bouncer? You will not win and just keep on walking . Other then a few knuckle heads occasionally act out, and they get dealt with pretty quickly,,, this place is definitely a place you'd like to visit. read more

Holy hell batman. Hole six (I think?) in our bar golf excursion. It looked so easy. One person on your team does a scorpion shot. I've downed goldfish before, how much worse can a scorpion be? A lot. Pickle. Shots. Honestly, there's not a lot to say besides that. It's a good bar, decent prices, average drinks, AND THEN PICKLE SHOTS. They have a few other shot types, but I haven't really been rewarded for exploring the menu. Most of the other diffused options err a little too strongly on the alcohol side of the equation, which is fine if you're just drinking anything, but the whole point should be that you're given an awesome flavor experience for soaking whatever (pineapple, strawberries, etc) with the vodka. The pickle shot is the only really reliable victor in this situation, and if you like pickles, you will LOVE the pickle shot. Another little novelty that I recommend for the brave of heart: scorpion shot. They chuck an actual (thankfully dead) scorpion in your drink. The only issue? You can't really just swallow the badboy. You would think the vodka soaking would break it down a bit, but no: you're in for a mealy mouthful of sinew and exoskeleton. This isn't really something I can sugarcoat, but the fact of the matter is you'll have eaten a freaking scorpion, and nobody can take that away from you. They have a pretty good "$3 for whatever" deal on Sunday and Apparently offer decently priced men's cuts on Wednesday. Certainly a younger crowd in a hip spot, but really nothing fancy/amazing enough to kick it up to 5 stars. read more

The only thing you need to know - pickle shots! That's right..liquor infused with pickles. It's kinda like doing a shot of pickle juice. Sounds weird but it's really good! If you can't do that they have a number of other infused liquors to try.. They also have cheap cans of beer and decent bartenders even when it's really busy. The busy part is a downside though..since it's in LoDo you have a bit of the usual bro-ish crowd there but nowhere near as bad as viewhouse/etc. There is sometimes a line outside to get in since it's a bit of a smaller space. Great place for an infused drink! Lines are always terrible long and the space is small and crowded. They specialize in fun infused alcohols that add a twist to any drink, or order them as a shot. My personal favorite is the strawberry vodka with gingerale, it's a drink but it's so tasty you will want at least 3 of them. Prices here can seem a little steep $5 for a pickle shot (granted they are bigger than a regular shot and are meant to be sipped on). read more

Visiting Denver from San Francisco and I'm used to paying over $100 to get my hair cut. Granted that includes a shampoo, head massage and a tiny container of hair goop but still. It's $100. For 1/5 of that, I received the same (sans goop) treatment PLUS a cocktail and a hot towel treatment. For $20. If you go here for a cut, make an appointment. Don't do what I did - which is arrive without an appointment and wait for an hour. At the bar. Where they have $3 drinks. The end result was still a great haircut but it's markedly shorter than I'd have requested had I sat in that chair a sober man. Anyway, thanks Kat. This little joint has delicious infused vodkas, my favorite of which is the strawberry. And, at $3 a shot, it makes this place a really, really, fun place to hang on the weekends. I've been here when it is super packed, midday on a Saturday over the summer, and when it's been completely empty, a Saturday in mid-January when it was crazy cold. Both times, we had a great time here and will definitely stop in again next time we're bar-hopping in the area! read more

I followed James Tylor from another salon and have absolutely fallen in love with this place! Every time I visit the Retro Room Salon I leave feeling rejuvenated with a fresh cut and color. James is an amazing stylist who listens to what you want but can also creatively suggest a beautiful new look if you're wanting to change things up. Everyone at this salon is kind and professional. ohhh Retro Room.. you and your pickle shot..and scorpion shot. If you found yourself at the Retro Room you need to pay homage to the pickle shot. It's actually not as gross as it sounds. Also try their other infused vodka 'cause they are delicious! ( Apple cinnamon shot? YES PLEASE) AND if you are feeling bold after a couple flavor shots you can try the scorpion shot ( with a REAL scorpion floating at the bottom of the shot glass) This may sound a bit freaky right now, but when you are drunk/tipsy/wasted, scorpion shot will sounds like a fun idea esp if you want to impress the girls. haha. The only reason I am giving this place a 3 stars is that it can get crazy crowded and rowdy on the weekends. Drunk bros are all around esp after 11pm. I wasn't even intentionally standing in line, I was conversing outside of the bar. A man (mid 30's) SHOVED me backwards out of his way (as if I was cutting him in line). I yelled at him (as I should) because it could AND should be considered assault. The bouncer defended him and said "you cut in line". I then was told that he could "call someone to come get me" because I was simply defending myself as a woman. I then was not allowed in the bar (wasn't even trying to enter anyways) and (coincidentally) security and cops pulled up moments later. It truly is disgusting. The Retro Room is my favorite place to chill out down town. The atmosphere is fun and sexy and the staff and owners make you feel welcome with smiles and great attitudes. Daily drink specials keep things reasonable when downtown bars can be so expensive. The salon side is fun and chic and with a (go figure) retro flare. The salon staff is talented and really listens to you when talking about the look you're looking for...something I've missed at too many other places. The combination of all of these things make the Retro Room an appealing option for me to grab a couple of drinks alone after work, or meet with friends. I love this place! read more

A wonderful place, with a variety of drinks. They sell themselves on their pickle shots, (everyone loves a big pickle!) but have a variety of infused liquor, from apple, to cherry, to strawberry, or apricot. Stay away from the cherry, unless you like cough syrup! Some people do! In addition to the infused vodkas, they do have infused whiskeys, rums, etc.. Def worth a try. Their one, very severe shortfall is they have nothing for non alcohol drinkers, except soda, or ginger beer in a can! They could certainly use some Beck's or O'Douls! People start here after their dinner or dance club, and cross to Ginn Mill about 11-11:30 to finish the night. Definitely not a dancy place, people crowd around each other, and walk through. There's a patio smoking area in back, for those who would smoke tobacco. read more

I walked into this joint and Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" was playing. This place got points right off the bat. Then, it transitioned into Bell Biv Devoe. Retro Room, you get me. You really get me. Besides the music and a few classic arcade games, there's not too much about this place that's super retro, but I still like it. I went in early on a Friday, around 7:30, and the place was pretty empty. Still, I enjoyed a $3 Newcastle and some of my fellow patrons tried some of the infused vodkas. I had a taste of the cucumber vodka and, yup, it was like drinking a cucumber. Which resulted in my genius idea of making a drink using that and blended watermelon. Retro Room should do that, because I would buy the hell out of that drink. Since this was a stop on a bar crawl, I didn't stay too long, but I'm really looking forward to going back when I get a chance. But as God is my witness, I will NEVER try the pickle vodka. Pickle lovers unite! My friends would never go out in public with me again if I chugged a jar of pickle juice at the bar, so pickle infused vodka on the rocks is the next best thing. Delicious pickle flavor without any liquor burn. I also tried the Strawberry (not overly sweet) and Cherry (tastes exactly like a maraschino) flavors. My last two visits to Denver have included stops at the Retro Room. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite places! My friends and I stopped there to sample some of the infused vodkas, and the selection brings something new and fresh to the otherwise typical bar menu. Pickle vodka was a crowd favorite amongst my group. Don't fear, while it may sound strange, it was delicious, flavorful, and kept us coming back for more. With a small outdoor patio, a pac man table, and friendly staff, the Retro Room is fun, affordable and different. I'll most certainly make it back there next time I visit. read more

$6 for a burger and a beer? Uh... YEAH! And BTW, it's a great burger. Service was friendly and prompt. The bar clean and bright, well at lunch time it is anyway. We went with the $6 burger and beer special. It's a good sized burger served on a fresh bun with cheese and all the basic trimmings (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle) and a side of fries. The burger would have benefited from a bit more salt and pepper but that's easy enough to take care of yourself. Did I mention it was only $6? Look, you still have money left over for another beer! While your here make sure you try at least 1 of the infused shots. I'd start with the pickle vodka. read more

Stopped in here before a Rockies game. Their special is the infused vodkas as you can see across the bar when you sit down. My friend ordered some pickle shots for when I arrived. I said "ok...." and not going to lie, doesn't sound good to me and I was quite weary. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't my favorite either. It just tasted like pickle juice basically. We also tried cucumber (very strong), and before we left the lovely bartender gave us the grapefruit flavored one on the house. That with a little club soda, and it was delish! Pickle Shots! Plain and simple...the best pickle shot in Denver. I cannot testify as to the quality of the salon but this place it the bomb-digitty for quick, cheap, flavored vodka shots! Perfect for Oktoberfest, great for Happy Hour. Pick your flavor...chose your adventure. More crowded on the weekend and sometimes service is slow but generally a good locale for some laid back drinks in the heart of Larimer. Food is available for the super drunk although there isn't a large menu. But really, once you're at that point of the night anything to munch on is good. The retro room does get packed, don't really see how you can take away numerous stars for that, however. Also, there is a small patio outside the back past the bathrooms that can occasionally provide some space, no matter how busy it is inside. When there's no specials (you-call-its and food) the place is still below the average price point of downtown. $3 you-call-its during happy hour and late night makes this establishment relatively dirt cheap. They run a $6 burger/fries and beer deal quite often and it is a perfectly substantial bar burger. Still, the reason this has been one of my favorite places in Denver for years: pickle shots...becomes dangerous when they drop from $5 to $3. Line em up. read more
