    Wings with a dirty martini.

We sat at bar and had some drinks. Nice atmosphere and bartenders were friendly. We had an order of chicken wings, which were good as well. I would come back to eat dinner here sometime. We will be back

Saturday night was busy! Service was a tad bit slow but it wasn't bad. The waitress apologized and you could see she was working really hard. Bourbon street pasta: it was okay. I feel like it needed to be thicker and needed some salt. The chicken was dry.

We came for Saturday brunch on Mother's Day weekend. I was looking forward to having Southern food, as there's not much in my part of Southern California. Niece ordered the shrimp and grits. It was a good-sized portion that she needed a doggy bag to enjoy the next day. I got a cup of gumbo and the cinnamon roll. Both were excellent. The host was welcoming, and our server was pleasant. She obligingly took our photo several times, so I had my choice of the best shot. The place was light and airy, with the room open to the street. It was a nice day, so we had the best of both worlds: indoor seating, but a patio-like ambiance. We didn't realize that we could have had our parking validated for the valet, so we parked quite a distance away.

Had a delicious experience at The Ridley! Stayed at a nearby hotel and decided just to walk over to this restaurant. I opted to sit outside and people watch as I enjoyed my fabulous kid free supper. Started with a purple royal gin fizz drink which was refreshing and perfect to sip while sitting and people watching. My meal was delivered hot and honestly is one of the top 5 meals of my life. The chicken was perfectly cooked and along with the gravy and the biscuit under it, was just scrumptious. The "sides" of the corn chowder, sweet potatoes and collards were just perfect with this meal. I ended it with a lava cake because, no meal is complete without dessert. I will be craving this entire meal for many months to come!! Service was very kind! They were understaffed at first but you couldn't tell but how quick they were and kind. The restaurant is nice and opens up to outside which gives it a great vibe.

THE BIG: Located in the Draftsman hotel in Charlottesville. It's close by the University of Virginia. Spacious indoor seating and a few tables outside next to the street. Valet parking only. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We stayed at the Draftsman and naturally the best place to grab food was The Ridley downstairs. It's African American owned and has that southern charm associated with the restaurant. Some of the food items we got were the grilled chicken sandwich, homestyle breakfast, veggie omelet, and shrimp & grits. My favorite was probably the grilled chicken sandwich. It was a nicely cooked chicken and a healthy heaping of avocado on top. Next would be the shrimp & grits. It was a bit heavy, and I was eating some uncooked grits, but the flavors were amazing. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Great food, however on the higher end. You can expect menu items to be from $20-$30. Good place for southern comfort food.

So we came to Charlottesville on a last minute type trip and I wanted to experience a good brunch while in town. I saw the rich history behind the owner and decided I wanted to support a black owned restaurant. It was really beautiful on the inside. I enjoyed the diverse music. The best part was that the food was really good. I got the shrimp and grits and my mother got the breakfast platter. I think that was the name of it. The shrimp and grits were very flavorful and was more than enough to eat. My mother said she enjoyed the sausage and eggs also. I would highly recommend this beautiful restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

I love when the richness of the origin story of a restaurant matches the delectable dishes that come out of the kitchen. This black owned restaurant located in Charlottesville, VA was named after Walter Ridley who was the first to receive an academic doctoral degree from the University of Virginia. As part of the Thompson Restaurant Group was familiar with the aesthetic and I was excited to experience the menu at this establishment. My order consisted of: - Pineapple Lime Martini - Crispy Brussel Sprouts - Gumbo - Collard Greens Everything was beyond delicious and I would definitely comeback to order everything I ate again.

We stayed at the draftsman's hotel and had a due entrance. The decor was modern and warm. I enjoyed the staff's hospitality. The food was fantastic. It came prompt and hot. A staple for Charlottesville!

Burger of all time. The onions were impeccable and I was obsessed with these sauce on it. Will definitely need to get my burger cooked medium next time and not medium rare but... phenomenal taste. Pricey but, in my opinion, worth it.

Have had brunch at The Ridley twice. Great food and fine service--even though they seem a bit short staffed. We will return for dinner soon.

I'm mentioning this because the amount of breakfast places with shit coffee is wild. So not only good food, but excellent coffee. Brioche French toast bananas foster - the bananas foster syrup was the bomb. Nutella and Strawberry Crepes - they were huge and so good! Chicken and Waffles- fried crispy bone in chicken is yue only way to go. My teen son eat every crumb. Avocado Toast with egg and smoked salmon - my husband loved it. Avocado Egg Bake - cooked perfectly and so good. Buttermilk pancakes for fluffy and great flavor. They offer real maple syrup, bananas foster syrup if you're fancy and then regular (fake) syrup.

Make a reservation, but there's also a little grab and go spot right when you walk in. Breakfast cocktails were yummy! I didn't feel guilty having a chocolate espresso martini for breakfast:) Bananas Foster Beignets was ridiculous! Benedict options were so unique. I recommend asking questions to make sure you're getting what you want. Hindsight I would have added protein to the green tomato Benedict. We also got a bowl that was much more like a salad and not like a hearty bowl. All were delicious, just not what was expected. We would return for sure!

The bar, front desk, valet and pool just steps away. The staff were like family and accommodations very comfortable. Squeaky clean hardwood floors all over. Tasteful old furniture. Every staff member I spoke to was polite, courteous, and happy to help. The self serve stations for hot coffee, tea, and cold water was a convenient resource outside of the door. This inn appears to be made of several former homes that were turned into a campus of buildings making the Oakhurst Inn. It's not a single building. The small lawn in the center of the complex has benches, hammock, and a fireplace that seems welcoming and nice, but I wasn't aware of them until I left. There were a few problems during my stay. The inn requires guests to use valet parking which is $40 per night, not disclosed before my stay, and often required a long wait for the valet to return. This makes it hard to retrieve anything you need from your car. The front desk staff are often missing from the front desk - I had to wait 15 minutes for someone to come back and check me in on arrival. Likewise, the bartender is often away from station and you might wait 10 or 30 minutes for the bartender to return. There is no mini fridge or microwave in the hotel rooms. The pool area was extremely dark at night, making it tricky or dangerous to navigate. The pool water was lukewarm, not warm at all. The sauna was out of order and the doorway was small and obscured by chairs. Not accessible and difficult to find. This inn has no gym. The lobby is very small and has no seating for guests or places to hang their luggage, although the nearby lounge has a few leather couches and a fireplace that doesn't appear to be working. Not the most welcoming or convenient. Overall I don't think it's worth the hefty price tag and would stay elsewhere when I return to Charlottesville.
