Made our annual trip and stay at Riveredge for Memorial Day weekend. Room was ready upon check in just before 4pm. Stayed on the 4th floor Queen Room with Jacuzzi Loft. Though the resort is aging I love its vintage charm and the balcony with view of Boldt Castle and St Lawrence River! If you are looking for Five stars and modern hotel this is not it. But if you are looking for a great hotel with character multiple restaurants, bar, tiki with live music and events, this is definitely the spot! Room clean, bathrooms are on the dingy side, supplies replenished upon request. I used Trivago to book room which was a substantial savings. Just over $500 for Saturday and Sunday. We travel a lot. We were new to the area and booked a room for three nights. They double charged us and now we have to dispute it via email! For $250 dollars a night you should expect more. It is an old hotel. The room was acceptable. The towels were small and dingy. The soap was so small and cheap. Not asking for much, a simple hand soap. There's no complimentary coffee. The blankets were worn and not sufficient. No microwave in the room. read more

You would think that being in a tourist area that the hotel you stay at would be more up To date and that when you reserve rooms with 2 queen beds that you would get what you ask for, well just the opposite happened, we were given rooms that had 1 queen bed and a pull out sofa which had a mattress that was barely 2" thick making it so uncomfortable to sleep on as you could feel all the bars in the frame pressing into your back and ribs every time you turned over. The place definitely needs to catch up with the times and do some redecorating as the Brady Bunch carpets and wall paper do not cut it. read more

This place looks great on paper. Once here we were greatly disappointed. Sheer curtains in the room were torn. Two small drawers for clothes. Bathroom was tiny, bathmat frayed and dingy. Sink was stained. Some kind of remains of a dispenser of some kind on the wall with residue of something. No grab bars in the shower. Low sitting toilet. In the hall, carpet was taped down, a complaint I saw on other reviews. Indoor pool was tiny, hot tub covered and closed. No free breakfast-at almost $600 for 2 nights, I expected that. The only thing nice about this hotel is the view and the fast check in. We were traveling with two other families. All three rooms were in the same condition. In many places from the elevators to our rooms the carpet was ripped about 12" and taped down. No AC in the hallway. Our room had an odor, the upholstered chairs smelled so bad we couldn't sit or put anything on them. The bathtub had a green ring around it where the water dripped, the bathtub drain was rotted and rusted. Some of the towels were ripped. The inside pool was cloudy and someone complained about feeling itchy after they came out. The food at the restaurant was just ok. The metal balcony railings had so many cobwebs, I don't think they were ever cleaned. The hotel needs a total makeover. Do yourself a favor and find another hotel! read more

Attended a wedding reception there today and everything was perfect. Here is what set them apart from other locations. I paid for 10 shots and a minute after I left she found me and said I did not leave enough money, I know I did and I told here if she did not find it to come and find me. A few minutes later I went back and gave her the money that I as short and said I did not want her to be responsible for being short. About 10 minutes later she came back and said she found the money. That right there is an honest person. Bravo to Riversedge and the server. We will be back! read more

We stayed here last weekend. We chose this place for the proximity to Alex bay and they had availability. Is the hotel a little dated.. yes. It is very clean. Staff are friendly. We happened to stay when the weather was hot. For whatever reason the hotel lobby and elevator were extremely warm. It was like the air conditioning just wasn't strong enough. Yet the air conditioning in the room was excellent. The rooms were very clean. The pool was great since my young son loves to swim. The downstairs bar/lounge was very nice. We opted to eat here one night because the restaurants we tried in town weren't the best. I am so glad we did. The food was very good. A little slow but there was only one waitress on staff until back up showed. read more

I'd give this hotel 0 stars if I could. Its carpeting is ripped and taped down on third floor. Rooms are so dated! Hair dryer and coffee maker were broken. Indoor pool was cold, not heated. Hot tub is broken. No cleaning because there's no cleaning staff, that was seen during our stay. When you ask questions , the staff seems confused. In my experience, hotel was unprofessional. There was no blankets on the beds. Towels in bathroom were dirty. I'd try a different place for your stay. Everything overpriced. read more

I loved the Harbour view from my balcony. The bed was very comfortable, the room was exceptionally clean and well appointed. They used to have an outdoor pool but that has been filled in. There is still an indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Everyone provided friendly service. The bartender at the tiki bar was great and the drinks were fantastic. The food is excellent and the views are top notch. Then walking distance of most things in Alexandria Bay and only a few minutes drive to Clayton for more fun stuff. read more

Great location, but this hotel is DIRTY. Walking to and from my room, it doesn't look like the place has been vacuumed in months. Furthermore my room felt dirty. There were dead bugs stuck to my balcony door. My neighbors smoked so my room smelled like cigarettes. The furniture def looked and felt old. The whole venue seemed run down. Huge hole in the roof outside the lobby where birds live. It makes me not appreciate its historic value. Staff was nice, but the overall care was not well. read more

Not sure why this place is called a "resort." It is a really old hotel that shows its age. The decor is dated, the mattresses are caved in, the door to my room stuck, the tv didn't have HD channels. The equipment in the gym was broke, every piece of equipment did not work. The one thing I was looking forward to at this "resort" was the outdoor pool. However, they filled it in at some point and it no longer exists despite still being picture on their website. The food at the restaurant is subpar. The lone highlight was our server Taylor who was very nice. Do not stay here, especially at $140 a night. It not worth it. At all! read more

We stayed in the room with 4 double Murphy beds and 2 bathrooms with a pull out couch. It was weird. Drop ceiling and fluorescent lights in a hotel room? Weird room partition thingie? And only a table for 4? Was more like a convention space. Would not recommend this room, especially for over $300. Also I don't think they have ever cleaned the doors/windows that overlook the parking lot. They were so dirty we kept the curtains closed. The kids enjoyed the huge indoor pool and hot (lukewarm) tub, but the pool area and related facilities are in need of a huge upgrade/repair. We walked outside & you can see it's crumbling. BUT the location is superb, the staff is lovely, and it seems mostly clean but just super dated. read more

Terrible experience - We have stayed at this resort at least 10 times in the last 22 years - it is NOTHING like it was when we first started going there yet the carpet is the same.....only with tape on it now. The indoor pool and jacuzzi were disgusting - the outdoor pool and jacuzzi was always the highlight of the place but that's long gone - lobby restrooms smell like sewer - food is over-priced and under-delivered. Updates to the restaurant did not improve it - - just a bunch of bright lights. I'd rather go back to the paper placemats, they were nicer. 1 out of the 2 elevators out of order - which the one that did work had an odor - Had a problem in the middle of the night, no one at front desk to answer phone, got dressed and when down and no one there at all. Luke warm shower and gross bathroom. Checked out early because of all of this and charged for full stay..no response from anyone at the hotel after repeated calls and e-mails. Despite being dated - we enjoyed our stay We came for a couple of nights during an anniversary celebration. Although the decor is dated, we thought that it was reasonably well-maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful and every room has a river view which frankly, seems like an absolute must when you're on the St. Lawrence river. We were impressed that since we had told them it was our anniversary trip; they had left a well wishes anniversary card along with a complimentary bottle of champagne and 2 flute glasses to go with it. We thought it was a nice touch. The in-house restaurant seemed fairly busy and we took desserts to go one night. They were HUGE servings and the carrot cake was awesome! Overall we thought it was a nice stay at a decent hotel for the value. read more

Go back a few decades to Austin Powers - the hotel rooms remind me Austin Powers' bachelor pad. Maybe once stylish and hip, the outdated wallpaper and pink tiled walls are garish. The jacuzzi in the room is nice and the view of Boldt castle from the balcony is quite impressive. As the balconies are around the perimeter of the hotel, all of the rooms come with them. For $300 on a Friday night, the room is quite spacious with good views and a decent mattress. I wish I could give a separate review of the hotel vs the restaurant. Based on the hotel, I would give 4 stars. The restaurant has stunning panoramic views of Boldt castle and located at the rear of the hotel with outdoor seating. I recommend just getting drinks because the food isn't very good, simple bar food. We had spinach artichoke dip, which was quite oily and disgusting. The fettuccine alfredo was rich and tasty with a soft warm roll. The house salad was fine, nothing special. I would give the food 2 stars and the ambiance 4 stars. read more

Rooms were clean and nice, all have a great view. Lovely to be able to launch and dock our boat right outside.Breakfast in the dining room or outdoor patio is really nice, great selections. My daughter and I stayed at the Riveredge Resort Hotel the first weekend in June. We had a lovely view! We were next to a marina so we could watch boats and jet skiis and geese with thier babies. We also could see Heart Island and the top parts of Boldt Castle from our balcony. We ate in both hotel restaurants, which were good; plus we had drinks and listened to a local band at the Tiki Bar. We had a lovely time! But when we got home my daughter realized she'd left a jacket and 2 blouses hanging in the closet of our hotel room! We called the hotel and Connor stayed on the line while someone searched thier lost & found. Connor got the items and mailed them to us! Had the most dissatisfied experience yesterday. Meeting with event planner scheduled. She was a no show. Put the responsibility on her very nice assistant without notice. Event brochure unavailable which required printing and copy production. No quiet place to meet to accommodate our small group. Quoted an open bar price for 150 people $18,000.00 dollars. Room rental of $5,000.00 for a venue that was by far in need of paint and cleaning. Didn't even get into food portion as the above pricing didn't include meals. Many open dates for next summer. Proceeded to Harbor Hotel who were amazing and much less $ for more. Hope you can get your act together Riveredge. read more

Checked in, Checked out. Loft suite room- dirty carpet that was lined in bugs. I'm surprised there are so many positive reviews, the hotel is completely outdated and dirty. Too bad, as it is a great location and view of the castle but they could do so much better. Waited two hours to check in only to be horrified by the state of the room. Visit the area every summer & winter. Winter choices are limited. Arrived on Friday evening. Town is quiet as expected. The sign on the building is partially lit. A few employees are gathered smoking outside the entrance, was like walking through an ashtray. Really dislike that. The employees were very nice and helpful while we were there other than the smoking thing. At check in I was reminded the the "limited" continental breakfast was 7A-10 on Saturday AM. I went down @ 915 to see it being pushed away on a cart already. :-( This hotel/resort was built in 1990. The hotel was impressive when it was new. However, there have really been no improvements or updates to speak of since it opened. The corridors to rooms are mauve carpet & mauve fire doors walls of half mauve/ half gray wallpaper, 1980's sconce lighting, blank red panels where some type of fire alarm equipment used to be. On the entry level, mauve tumbled tile. Worn/tired green carpet in the bar & restaurant on first floor. And all of that "brass" from the 80's. Rooms seem to be in 3 different stages- "original"- blue floral wallpaper, tan short pile carpet, honey maple furniture, brass mirror doors, brass lighting. "refreshed"- blue wallpaper removed & walls painted tan/yellow, did not even paint dirty ceiling. everything else from opening "remodeled"- in addition to pulling wallpaper and painting walls, carpet pulled up & dark laminate installed. wet bar top replaced & the light for bar (maybe 10% of the rooms) regardless of room status, bathrooms original, old composite sinks discolored & cracking. The hotel was closed Jan-April 2008 for remodeling and also again Jan-April 2015 for remodeling. Anybodys guess as to what if any work was done. Great view. great location. Saddened by condition of property. If you don't have decent expectaions, you'll be ok. if you have reasonable or high expectations, you will be disappointed. Staff was nice and friendly. Room was good size and clean. Overall hotel is outdated, we took the stairs the whole time (3rd floor) because of the elevator was so old. We had a connector room and the door separating the rooms was a single lock and there was no sound proofing. We could see the light and hear everything through the door/ walls. Alexandria Bay is definitely a party town and guests would be getting home from a good night at all hours...not a place to stay with small children. read more

Hard to rate this place even a one star. When we arrived on 8/5/22, we were informed by the desk manager that our room was not ready and that we would need to wait until 4:00PM to gain access. This presented a dilemma as we had just driven 335 miles to attend a wedding in Clayton that was to take place at 4:00PM. Needing to dress for this wedding we asked for an accommodation from the manager. To say she was unhelpful would be an understatement as she referred us to a public bathroom as our only choice. When pressed for a more suitable accommodation she then suggested the public boathouse. Both options were totally unacceptable as they were both filthy and lacking essential services, towels etc. The boathouse in addition to being "non gender specific" was non-ADA Compliant as the sidewalk and curbing were uneven and created a significant trip hazard. This was a serious issue for my wife as she had recently undergone knee replacement surgery. Not once did the manager apologize or offer an explanation other than "oh we are short of staff". With that attitude this "resort" will surely be short of guests. read more

Hotel is okay, overpriced. The restaurant attached to it isn't very good. I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was literally the size of a chucken nugget. It was 1/5 of the size of the roll. Also ordered chicken tenders and you get 3.5 with fries for $14. Overpriced though they were okay. I would not come back. read more

My family stayed here for 2 nights to just have a little getaway in the thousand islands. The hotel satisfied our needs, but could have definitely used some updating. A lot of things in the room were older. My brother and I loved the outdoor/indoor pool, however they were both freezing even though we were there on one of the hottest days of the year. We did enjoy the hot tub outside, and inside. We went to check out the game room and it's not what you imagine at all. A tiny room with maybe 7 outdated games and a fus ball table. My family did have a complaint about our room on the second floor (222) we were hoping for a good view of boldt castle but a pine tree was blocking it! Maybe it was just an issue for us but it really annoyed my mom. This hotel wasn't the best but it met our needs and that's what mattered. read more

We ate at the Holland Street Bistro, a restaurant at this resort. This review is limited to that experience: Service was excellent. Food was very good. I would have given them 5 stars but was perplexed by this: I am a vegetarian, and there was one vegetarian entree, which I ordered. All entrees come with a choice of soup or salad. The strange thing is the soup is chicken noodle soup. I asked if I could get the other soup on the menu instead, as I am a vegetarian, and I don't eat chicken. They said "no substitutions". I asked if they could make an exception since I am a vegetarian and I don't eat chicken. They said "no." So I had no choice but to order the salad. So what can one conclude from this...?! They don't really want to cater to a vegetarian customer. Others in my party of 4 enjoyed their food however. read more

Staff is pleasant and that's all the difference to me. The room needed full and complete updating. The room certainly does NOT warrant the price $209 - $239. but the location is primo. Our bed was a queen set onto of a full frame. Yes our bed hung over a full foot which made the bed wobble non stop. Don't expect to sleep well here if that's your goal. Lol. The outside pool is sufficient but again...needs major updating. Have fun finding towels and when you do they are not folded. My kids didn't care. The inside pool was okay but WAY TOO much chlorine. The outside pool bar is nice. I would not call it a tiki. Restaurants were outdated but the food was decent. Room service was very good. Breakfast is reasonably Priced so long as you don't order the way overpriced juices. Overall would i come back? If there is a more updated hotel I would DEFINITELY go elsewhere. Outdated tv, and the remote is missing the back. I do like how for the soap and shampoo they have the big pumps instead of the baby bottles. The view to Boldt castle is very pretty and the distance to the majority of the town's restaurants are close by. The other guys I was with were charged incorrectly. They charged one guy twice, and the other not at all. The beds are not very firm, but he European style pillows are a cute touch. The wifi cut out often. They offer a salon, restaurant, bar, small arcade room. Not quite the resort you might imagine. read more

Get a drink at the bar... all else to this place is just an OVERPRICED sham. The place has been sold numerous times to different people (Alex Bay is very seasonal..the hotel is open year round but I suspect each new owner figured out the seasonality of it). If you take a close look at the materials used to build this place...it's pretty flimsy, just like the current operation of the place. The bleach in the bathrooms really do hide a much larger stench to this place... OK- Aruba this isn't- but for a north country place to stay- you can't beat the view. Yes, there are bugs in the air outside (it's on the water after all). Directly across from Boldt Castle, views of the St. Lawrence Seaway with the Lakers and Salties going by! Much to enjoy! The pool is fine and the tiki bar is fun (live music weekends). The rooms are typical small hotel style. Big bed, a chair or two, a balcony and TV. Some have refrigerators. The real complaint I had was the manager of the restaurant. She was like a miserable drill seargent checking on her troops. She kept asking whether the waitress served us (we were done with breakfast). Oh and breakfast was GOOD! She also turned away a party of 7 because they wanted to pull some tables together. Big deal- and she lost revenue for the joint. She didn't smile and was just plain curmodgeonly. Gave a bad feeling to us. Resort overall is fine, wait staff work hard, housekeeping is friendly and does the best they can. I stayed at the Riveredge with my wife celebrating our 20th year anniversary and it was a bit of a let down. I had paid a premium for a room with a king sized bad, Jacuzzi and 'channel view' of the river or view of the marina but ended up with a view of the parking lot. I went down to the desk manager and he said that I specified for that particular room. I told him I had only stayed at the hotel one time before so I had no reason to ask for a particular room. The manager was able to move us to a room with two twin beds a little up from the parking lot but still wasn't a room with a view that I booked. I was a bit pissed but the following day I did check out early to get a room at the neighboring Bonnie Castle resort with a room that actually was waterfront and they didn't charge me to check out early. Overall the facility is nice but when you reserve a room, make sure you know where the room will be so there will be no unpleasant surprises. read more
