    Thanksgiving
    Meesh U.

Stopped by for lunch recently and, wow, we we impressed! Just an ordinary little mini strip-mall storefront. The kinda place you don't even notice driving by. Inside, it's clean, warm and welcoming. We had planned on grabbing our sandwiches to go. This would be a great stop en route to the nearby beaches. But, an open corner table convinced us to stay eat in. I chose the Thanksgiving and was very happy with that selection. Unusually, it was made with fresh roasted turkey breast - not the turkey deli meat you usually find. Perfect balance of stuffing, cranberry & mayo on a crusty French roll. Delicious and really hits the spot when you are craving a turkey dinner! When my partner picked the Cubano, I was a bit concerned. We had lived in South Florida for more than a decade & had enjoyed Cubans from some of the best. Could this live up? While we lack good Cuban bakeries for the perfect bread in coastal RI, the pressed baguette was a good substitute. And, like our other sandwich, the fillings were high quality and well balanced. Another great sandwich! A delicious, huge cookie, chips and drinks rounded out a very good The Roasted Clove is our new favorite sandwich stop in the area!

The Roasted Clove in Middletown lives up to its bold slogan: "Treat Your Garlic With Respect." And wow, do they ever. We were doing the RI Food Fights #BestSandwichRI challenge & we were so happy to find this gem! The atmosphere is warm & inviting, staff clearly takes pride in both their food & service. You can tell this is a place that values quality ingredients & thoughtful preparation. I selected a personal favorite: muffaletta. The first time I came across this delicious sandwich was in New Orleans at Central Grocery in the French Quarter. There it starts with a large, round, sesame-crusted Italian loaf. At The Roasted Clove, it was on a more focaccia-like bread. Then it is filled with a stack of soppressata, mortadella, black forest ham & provolone. The real star (for me) is the zesty olive salad: a tangy, briny mix of chopped green olives, garlic, capers, celery & carrots, all marinated in olive oil & herbs. YUM! Hubby selected the Italian: ham, sweet capicola, Genoa salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pepperoncini with the OG parmesan vinaigrette on a baguette. He loved it. From the take out cooler, I selected the Sweet Potato Salad. It was so good that I found a recipe with similar ingredients & went to the grocery store to buy them so I could make it at home. Sweet potatoes, dried cranberries, crumbled feta, red onion slivers, chopped parsley with a dressing of Dijon, honey, cumin, paprika, apple cider vinegar & EVOO. Savory yet slightly sweet, light but filling. A perfect accoutrement to the delicious sandwiches. Highly recommend

There's something deeply satisfying about a place that doesn't try too hard but still manages to get everything right. The Roasted Clove in Middletown, RI, is a culinary diamond that isn't very rough - a place where quality ingredients and skilled hands converge without any unnecessary pretension. Walking in, you're immediately struck by its unpretentious clarity of purpose. Clean lines, wooden tables paired with black metal chairs, light-filled space with blue accent walls - it's a spot that says "we care about the details" without shouting it in your face. The soundtrack of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa pulsates through the space, creating an atmosphere that's decidedly millennial but welcomes all. This isn't some faux-rustic temple of reclaimed wood where you pay for the Instagram opportunity as much as the meal. No, this is a bright, welcoming place for people who expect to get what they pay for. The menu board - a massive, hand-lettered masterpiece - looms above the counter with a depth and breadth that might induce a mild panic attack in the chronically indecisive. But here's the beauty: whether you land on the "Surfer's End" with its grilled chicken and avocado, or the "Thanksgiving" sandwich that brings November's greatest hits to your table year-round, you're in good hands. Their "Build Your Own" section offers an embarrassment of options - various breads (baguette, wheat, sourdough, wraps), proteins ranging from roast beef to turkey to veggie options, and cheeses from provolone to feta. The "Pressed Sandos" section promises the grill-kissed goodness that promises to transform a good sandwich into something approaching transcendent. And don't sleep on their house "OG Sauce" - a magical concoction of red wine vinegar, Parmesan, roasted garlic, mayo, and Italian seasoning that elevates whatever it touches. I went straight for the Meatball Sub, and my friends, this isn't some phoned-in, sauce-from-a-jar disappointment. These are serious meatballs - tender, well-seasoned, sitting proudly in a sauce that knows its role isn't to overwhelm but to complement. The provolone and parmesan add the necessary sharp, salty counterpoint, while the baguette - that crucial delivery system - strikes the perfect balance between crusty exterior and chewy interior. What makes this sandwich work is restraint. The sauce isn't overloaded with oregano trying to scream "I'M ITALIAN!" at your taste buds. The meatballs aren't dense orbs of despair. Everything plays its part. The display cases reveal a wealth of other treasures - house-made spanakopita, meat pies, various salads (the tarragon chicken looks tempting, roasted vegetables, and sides like mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. The Roasted Clove is not reinventing the wheel - it's just making a really inviting, tasty wheel. Just quality ingredients handled with care and served in a space that makes you want to hang out. This spot isn't trying to change your life. It's just trying to make lunch better. And in that modest but essential mission, it succeeds admirably.

I've passed this strip mall 100 times on my way to the growers market over the summer. But thanks to the RI Food Fights Sandwich Showdown, I finally made my way inside. The interior is bright and open, with a variety of drinks and prepared foods on display. They have a good selection of sandwiches and wraps but we settled on the meatball sub and the roasted veggie wrap. The young man at the counter was quite patient with us as we haggled with each other over what to have and who would pay The meatballs were tender and had good flavor. Definitely lived up to the Nana title. The baguette was slightly chewy but didn't resist too much as you bite into it. The wrap had a nice mixture of vegetables and the arugula was fresh. The bites that had the garlic aioli were quite tasty but the vegetables were a little under seasoned otherwise. I was wishing for a zip, a zing... something tangy. The pricing was very reasonable for the two sandwiches and you can tell they try to use top quality ingredients. I'm glad I stopped through this month, because now I know my go to spot on my way to the markets this summer

The Roasted Clove, very happy to have found this little hole in the wall. They have quite the selection of food, cold cut sandwiches, hot sandwiches, pressed sandwiches, soups, salads, classic deli sides, you name it, they probably have something for every mood. I ordered the cubano. This sandwich from most places is typically solid, but many fail to stand out- this one does. A pressed buttery baguette with some deliciously seasoned pulled pork, mustard, a generous amount of Swiss, mustard, house made pickles, and a few slices of black forest ham.. It was fantastic. From the first bite, I knew I was in for a great sandwich. Most places just have some plain ol shredded pork and don't take the time to thoroughly season it, this pork could have stood on its own without the other sandwich ingredients. The acidity from the pickles, richness the Swiss lends to things overall and the crisp buttery baguette made this sandwich hard to put down- I didn't want to stop chowing down. This was a roughly $13 sandwich, a great value. I was a little hungry after, but if you get a side you will likely not run into that, I have an abnormal appetite and we did a ton of walking before this. My wife got the surfers end and it's a bit more of a substantial portion mainly because of the vegetables and the volume that 2 big grilled chicken tenders brought in. It was tasty, I was able to sneak a bite. Value, quality, flavor and service earned this place an easy 5 stars. Will absolutely be back and highly recommend!

I've gone 3 times in just as many weeks, getting something different each time and I have yet to be disappointed. Every sandwich has been well balanced in flavor and texture. The baguette bread is both sturdy enough to withstand the sauciness of the marinara on the meatball sub without being so hard that it makes it hard to eat. The pressed sandwiches are beautifully crisp on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. It's hard to pick a favorite as every sandwich scratches a different itch, but the Fig and Prosciutto is probably one I will always be in the mood for. Everything is quite reasonably priced as well!

As noted above we have eaten here in the past. We have dined with large as well as small groups and have always been pleased. The place is beautiful, especially in the summer. Based on our sub par experience the night before (see prior review) I was committed to having a great meal. We were not disappointed. I started with the clam chowder. Delicious. Flavorful and loaded with clams. My wife opted for the lobster bisque In an effort to negate the lousy lobster bisque she had on the previous night. Mission accomplished. She described it as buttery and creamy. Essentially the perfect bisque flavor. Contained within the bisque was a tremendous chunk of delicious lobster meat . For dinner, I chose the baked stuffed shrimp. It was delicious. Cooked to perfection with delicious stuffing, rice, pilaf, and broccoli. My only complaint is that I believe there should be more than 4 shrimp at this price. My wife selected the Pasta Bolognese. A dish that she has had and several other restaurants in several states and she ranked this right at the top of the list. Plenty of beef and pork combined with a tasty Italian sauce. When in the Newport area I suggest you skip the over hyped restaurants and head to Johnny's for a delicious meal with great atmosphere.

We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless.
