We reserved the pavilion at The Rock Bar & Grill for a wedding rehearsal dinner and are so glad we did. Jen was really helpful getting our reservation set up and arranging food, including working with us for all the different dietary restrictions our guests had. The space was big enough for all 60 of our guests and the food was excellent! Many of our guests told us how nice the location was right on the river and how good the food was (which isn't always a given when catering a buffet for a large number of people). My daughter had taken me here several months ago, and I thought the food was very good. We live 44 min away, so haven't been back until today. I took my husband as a surprise as he didn't know about this restaurant yet. We asked for outdoor seating as I knew he would enjoy the scenery. We waited ONE HOUR to receive our food. People around us that came after us received theirs already. All we ordered was sandwiches. I could see this happening if they were extremely busy, but they were not. I stopped out waitress who never had checked on us, and I asked where our meals were and she just glanced at us as she walked by. Not even two minutes later a young man brought our food. Which, by the way was quite delicious. Our server never came by to apologize. Also, I ordered a chicken wrap and the server asked grilled or crispy, and I ordered crispy. Then, when we received the bill we were charged a fee of $3.00 for crispy chicken! She never mentioned there would be an upcharge. And I didn't see it on the menu. Aggravated!! Dropping in from Florida to visit my Great Grandma and searched for best restaurants in Beloit. I decided to try Rock Bar and they delivered a great experience. I sat at the bar and Megan was who gave me the first good impression. She is very chipper and welcoming to an Out of Towner. I was talking up a storm even before I tried a beer, she didn't make me feel like a complete weirdo and I appreciate that! Megan gave me the full run down on what Rock Bar serves, and what he favorites were although I didn't choose her favorite one (Sorry). I went with the Wisconsin Pub Burger and I enjoyed it! Never had Cheese Curds and they were right on the burger with a Pretzel Bun for the Win!! Also had the Untitled Art CBD Pilsner, the taste was crisp and refreshing! Got the appetizer platter and loved all the items on here. It comes with artichoke dip, chips, wings with your choice of sauce, potatoes skins and cheese curds. Normally, bar food I've had in the past is greasy and the food doesn't seem to be cooked or fried evenly. Usually you'll get a deep fried item that's greasy and dark on one side than the other, which means they don't take care of the fryer and it's cooked unevenly. This was not the case, the cheese curds were cooked evenly and were a nice golden brown. I recommend trying them. I got the hot classic buffalo sauce on the wings and they were pretty good if you like wings. Very comparable to your TGI Fridays wings. For my meal I had a cheesy badger burger. The beef was very tasty and cooked properly. The burger was put together well because near the end the burger was not falling a part on me like some places do. If you put the tomatoes near the bun, it soaks it and then it falls a part. They didn't do this, which was great. The burger also wasn't greasy and leaking of grease. Another plus! For a place claiming to have the best burgers around though, the burger wasn't that amazing. I threw some ketchup on the cheese and it made the burger fall a part. Not sure why that happened, possibly grease? Overall, the food was pretty decent for a bar. The service was a bit on the small side. The waitress come over frequently for drinks and such, but after she dropped the food off we had to wait a while to find her. We wanted to pay our bill and leave. We had to wait on her to come back. FOOD - 4 stars ===== Prices are a little high, but then again I'm from out-of-town and the food is delicious!! For appetizer, my fellow diner and I shared the CHEESE CURDS for $6.99 (obligatory Wisconsin snack), which were fried, came with ranch and/or honey mustard (upon request), and almost squeaked in my mouth. Then, I ordered JAY'S FAMOUS HOT HAM & SWISS SANDWICH which came with a side (slaw, but I wish I'd upgraded to sweet potato fries for extra $1) and I devoured even though I was overfull. Very disappointed on this trip to The Rock! As we entered about 715 pm we were told it was going to be a 20 wait. That was not a problem with us; as we wanted to sit outside for the FireWorks. On our walk to the outdoor Tiki bar to wait I was able to see 1 6 top, 7 4tops and 2 2tops empty. That is 10 empty tables and we were told it was going to be 20 Min? While waiting we watched as several parties sat at tables and were eventually told to get up. It did take a full 45 min to get a table after we finally complained to the hostess. When we were finally seated there still was many a table open where we could have sat when we walked in. Their table plan was not very good and they we not watching to see what was open. Our Server was one of the Trainers (Laurie) and was very conscious of the delay we had and very nicely took care of us. As to the food it was the general fare for here. It was Hot and came out in good time. Thank you Laurie; but shame on the management for (Staging the tables the way they did). I've been here quite a few times. Our first visit started as a near bust. The service was spotty and slow. We ordered but still had not received our drinks. Thankfully, the manager/owner was outstanding and saved the day! Honestly, that experience was my first there and had it not been for her we would no have returned again. Instead we have been back and I've taken out of towers there. I moved her from Milwaukee, which has many awesome restaurants and a lot on the river. The Rock gives me that home again feel. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great mgr/ owner. My only gripe is the music selection is not so good. I'd vote country or current of anything except slow music. The view is worth a stop at The Rock. Plenty of outdoor seating for everyone! The hostess and waitress were friendly and we were seated quickly. The beer is cold, but the draft selections are minimal. The peel and eat shrimp are a show stopper and delicious! The cheese quesadilla was good. The only reason for 3 star rating is amazing service and the beautiful waterfront outdoor views. Food was not good at all - very bland, nothing special. We ordered Combo platter for appetizers - it was OK; chicken wings in honey bbq sauce were the kids' favorite; cheese curds, onion rings seemed like they came out of a grocery store freezer bag & were deep fried. My kids had Wisconsin pub burgers & did not like the pub sauce. My husband had prime rib philly sandwich, which he didn't like at all & I had fried chicken dinner, which, I hate to say it, but was just awful. I think Walmart sells a better tasting fried chicked. Mashed potatoes seemed like there were cooked from a box. I like the rock! There's nothing super special about the food or drinks, but the service is always good and you can't beat a restaurant/bar on the river. I have never had a bad experience here, aside from the occasional incredibly busy day where service is a little slow, but that's to be expected. Put one of the dozens of employees standing around in a car, hand them a fist full of cash and send them off to the Piggly Wiggly for more food. It's noon - you didn't just open. It's not like you ran out of shepard's pie or shrimp ettouffee; dishes than take a lot of time to prepare - you ran out of frozen chicken tenders. You aren't breading them by hand; you are pouring them out of the bag into the fryer. Was it a huge deal? No. But it's just annoying that management is so lazy. So, after my first two choices were unavailable, I got a chicken sandwich, which actually wasn't bad - it's just not what I wanted. The fries were actually very very good. Came here because it is on the water. Tried sitting outside but were swarmed by wasps as soon as the appetizer arrived. This a pretty generic divey burger and beer joint. Ordered the badger nachos, which consisted of store bought chips, watery beer cheese, super fatty pulled pork, BBQ sauce and green onions. The pork was basically a gooey mass of equal parts fat and meat - I couldn't eat it. The table ordered a pork tenderloin sandwich, fish fry and burger. The pork tenderloin was pretty good size and flavorful enough with the mustard and pickles. By itself the tenderloin was completely unseasoned and bland so I wouldn't recommend if you're going to want without mustard. My husband liked his fish despite it being a little oily. My mom likes her burger. I had to ask - no one expressed any excitement of their own accord. The Cole slaw was good. My moms mojito was pretty poorly made but I heard no complaints about the rum buckets. The meal with three alcoholic drinks was $66. I was happy with the service. They gave us no grief about moving inside due to the wasps. They burger two of us were sharing was cut in half and served on two plates without being asked. The waitress was attentive. Staff needs training. We had 2 bad drinks (rum and coke, and diet pepsi), with bad service and getting charged for 4 dinners rather then 2 all you can eat fish fry. The beer was nice (no beer list) for the Friday special. Of course getting a class of water took 2 requests and a lot of waiting. We saw a popcorn machine and some tables getting served with popcorn. While we waited, we were never offered any. Eventually, after 10 minutes, I just got up and got our own since everyone else had some. The wings were ehhh, served without plates or napkins. Eventually after about 5-7 minutes, we just got up and got our own napkins (no plates to be found). No carrots but the celery was nice. The wings were pretty heavily breaded but the wings were fairly meaty. When our 1st fish meals came, one piece of the fish was undercooked (fryer too hot, so breading was done, but not the fish). Other tables who were seated after we arrived got their meals before ours (and we had fried food). The breading on the fish was thick but not real greasy with bigger pieces of actual fish so not bad for cod. The waitress was slow and visited us infrequently. Of course, being in the crying room (like at church) probably did not help. It was all that was available on a Friday night. We wanted a left over box for the fries and bun but were never offered on after 3 hours of waiting (or any refills or a goodbye or an acknowledgement). Yea we camped after the place had slowed down, but initially it was for waiting for a take home box, then it became interesting what would not happen. If like me, you're at a friend's wedding in the middle of the great Midwest, way too far from home, and just looking for some good food for you and some close friends, The Rock Bar & Grill might be your spot. It's a nice sports bar next to the river with nice indoor and outdoor eating. I didn't expect much, but the food surprisingly surprised me. The wings were on point. They were large, juicy, had a nice crunch, and had great flavors. We tried a bunch and I think sesame garlic was really good. But the rest were great picks, too. The chips and guac were enjoyable and the fried cheese curds were a hit. Who knew Beloit can do wings? Everyone says good food makes you feel at home (well at least I say that, just now) and the Rock does some good food. read more

I've never had a bad meal at the Rock. I like it. Only problem is service time. We go for lunch from work, it takes an hour & half to two hours! Come on, we are obviously women from an office. We don't have 2 hours for lunch. But the food is always good! Go for dinner or a Saturday lunch, sometime when you have time. Additional review - The Rock updated it's menu, removing many items. The ladies I work with now will not go there for lunch because one of the things removed was the cobb salad. Cobb salad is pretty much a staple in salads. Not sure what the thinking was behind removing this item. Personally I'm fine with a chicken Caesar or chef, but girls want what girls want. Put the cobb salad back on the menu... Just sayin. Some additional info - You can't get just palin old regular french fries anymore. They come with cheese and beef or something all over them. I like just french fries. Someone ordered the chicken Ceasar salad... they got a wedge. Oh well, if you want it chopped or Romaine, you have to specifically ask for it. I ordered the Chicken Ceasar... that implies Romaine, chopped, NOT a wedge. The restaurant is absolutely horrible now! They are trying to be an upscale Chicago restaurant. Come on Rock... you are a sports bar in Beloit. Get over yourself and you'll get your customers back. Best. Burger. Ever. Service was great too, and the view of the river from inside where it's warm on a frigid day is nice. But the burger is worth the trip from just about anywhere. The burger itself is thick, juicy, and the flavor is exactly right. Top it off with some old fashioned Cheddar and Bacon, add a side of very fresh crinkle cuts, hot not greasy, and a pretzel bun that for a carb hater like myself makes it worth those precious bites. I've been here close to 50 times for work lunches and social gatherings. I like the food and the staff is pretty friendly most of the time. I wouldn't go here with larger parties because it tends to take awhile to get your food. If it's juts you and a friend, you should be fine. The food they offer is your basic bar food, nothing really special. They do offer sweet potato fries, which I think is a nice option. We took the family on a Friday night. Not a lot of waiting space, but we were sat in about 25 minutes. We sat outside to enjoy the view. We got the cheese curds and the mac and cheese bites for appetizers. Both were good, but the mac and cheese bites are highly recommended.
