The bacon and hash browns were crispy, the eggs were fluffy, the avocado was fresh, and it all tasted delicious with the molcajete salsa and the cilantro lime crema. From the outside it looks like a small burrito, but it is so packed that you'll feel satiated/pretty full. Including tax it was $14. What a find this was! Since it is right around the corner from me, I stopped in for a late breakfast. There are not a lot of options on the menu, just a handful of sandwiches and burritos, along with a few sides. But even with the smaller menu, I still wanted to try half of it. I finally settled on the Rico Suave, and my spouse got the Bodega with a side of tots. We ordered at the counter and then sat in the dining room, which had a few tables and seating along the windows. It was nothing fancy, but it was clean and comfortable. It didn't take long before our food was ready. I loved the Rico Suave. So often when you order a breakfast burrito, you get one that could feed a family. This one filled me up, but I didn't leave feeling stuffed. I was also impressed that, by the time I finished it, it hadn't fallen apart into a pile of mush. Even better, the flavor was excellent. I loved every bite. My spouse enjoyed the Bodega, and we both loved the tots, which were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I will definitely be going back. I noticed that a lot of people have commented on the price. For what we ordered, it was about $30. You would pay close to that for two McDonald's Egg McMuffin meals and not get nearly as much food or anywhere near the same quality. I thought it was very reasonable. On a Sunday morning, I was heading out to Sprouts to get Kaiser rolls and eggs to make baconeggandcheese. As I was at a stop light, I was reminded about the Rooster restaurant and pulled up the menu. Coincidently, they had a breakfast sandwich called The Bodega! Pulled up, parked and ran inside to see if their breakfast sandwich will satisfy my craving. I haven't found any thing close to a baconeggandcheese in Mid-City/Beverly Grove area that didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Inside it is cute. Plenty of seating to enjoy your breakfast and lunch. There is a large TV monitor and at the time, a FIFA soccer match was being played. Server was great. He was friendly and the service was efficient and fast. I was able to get my sandwich in less than 10 minutes. Now for the sandwich--- amaaaazing! The cibatta roll was not as dense and thick as some of the cibatta rolls I had in the past. It was heartly enough to hold in the egg and the generous amount of cheese. The bacon was crispy with not a lot of fat. I had bacon in every bite that I had. The sandwich is not commuter friendly which is a great thing! This is a sandwich that you need to sit down, slow down and enjoy. This totally reminds me of the ones I got from a bodega in Harlem (yes, I know, I am basing this review on a personal memory) but the difference is their special sauce. It has a little tiny kick to it and if I can take a guess. it has chipotle on it. I can be wrong. You can correct me. I like the part that it is around $10. $15 for one sandwich, the size of my hand. I don't know how this business is going to last here with prices like that. Breakfast is so cheap to make it should not cost this much. This is the impossible breakfast sandwich. If the reason it's expensive because they're buying name brand products maybe they should rethink their ingredients. The menu is very simple and includes seven signature eats. You also have an option for a burger, tacos, and a vegan sandwich. You can substitute how you'd like, but note it will cost extra. I.e. it cost $2 to substitute the bacon for chorizo in the Rico Suave burrito. Parking can be tough but there are some limited parking spots in the back for customers. The service was quick. I've been training for the LA Marathon and after my Saturday long runs the only thing I want is a killer breakfast burrito. So I have been on the search for the perfect breakfast burrito, and after yesterdays 11 miles, I NEEDED a good one. A friend recommended The Rooster, so my teen and I headed over from Santa Monica. Their breakfast menu is pretty limited--just the burrito and a couple of other breakfast sandwiches--but I think that simplicity is the key to their success. They just do a few things and they do them well! I love the fact that the egg isn't scrambled--I'm pretty sure I saw them crack the egg directly on top of the tortilla and cook it that way, but I was still in my post-run fog and didn't get a picture. However they do it, the yolk (fully cooked) and whites aren't mixed, and I loved it. I hate it when restaurants load up the burrito with potatoes, but they include just the right amount of tater tots to give it that starch and crunch without overpowering the other flavors. And that green sauce it comes with? Divine. My only gripe is that it's a bit of a drive from Santa Monica, and I can't see making this drive every weekend after my long runs. It's good, it's worth a stop, staff was friendly and helpful enough. I can understand why The Rooster has been included in "the best" breakfast burritos in LA conversation. The tots are crispy, the avocado is a must for the creamy/fatty/healthy component, the bavon is crispy but doesn't shatter, the cheese is cheesy and the cotija is crumbly salty, I appreciate a little brightness with the cilantro crema, though the fried is a tad over cooked for my taste. All for $12.50 which is actually on the lowish/medium end for hip breakfast burritos. What was weird though and worth mentioning is that it's a cashless business. NBD, I get all the reasons why and it's nothing new, I pay with my credit card for bonus miles anyways. Buuuut, there's a charge for using your credit card... *record scratch sound effect* So I can't use cash and will have to pay extra for using a credit card, so I HAVE to use my debit card. Such an oddity that you have to print out a sign that says it twice in black text on white background AND white text in black background. I was really excited to try this breakfast burrito. But honestly it was huge miss. I like the whole setup of the restaurant and the menu sounds great. But when I took the first bites I was missing out on Flavor! The sauces were missing flavor too. No spice at all and hardly any salt. I think they wanted to copy wake and late but definitely not even close. The textures were not on point. And the Flavor was a real disappointment. I genuinely was super excited when I got my food. I am a regular, Saturday-morning LA walker, and one of my recent jaunts took me to the Mid-Wilshire area. I had heard about the soft opening of The Rooster and I wanted to see for myself what all the crowing was about. Being one of those who believes burritos to be the ultimate foodstuff, I was delighted to see that the first item on that little menu was the "Rico Sauve," which turned out to be Rooster code for the DOPEST (all caps) of all breakfast burritos. Being a vegetarian, I asked if I might have my "Rico Suave" sans bacon. "No problem: everything is made to order." It arrived, shortly thereafter, all snug in its perfect tortilla, almost too hot to pick up. As soon as I took a bite, I wanted to repeat the experience, but I paused a moment to savor and to investigate. Everything was there and accounted for: the tator tots, the avocado, the cheddar and Cotija cheeses, the cilantro sauce, and, most spectacularly, the eggs, which had not been scrambled but instead lightly hard boiled so as to preserve the beautiful orange yokes. I can only imagine how good the bacon would have been. I will probably be the neighborhood again on Monday, having some business nearby, at which point I will be faced with that happy challenge that inevitably follows whenever I pick well from the menu of a thoughtful kitchen on my very first visit: do I relive the experience or move on and see what else The Rooster can do to make my morning walk brighter? read more

Still good flavors and the cilantro sauce is solid, but quality has gone downhill unfortunately! Just looking at how sad the bacon is you can tell it is either low quality and/or batch made in the early morning and not even fresh by 10 am. No greetings, barely could hear her so I kept having to ask her to repeat herself because the music is SO loud in the place. And she had such attitude when I asked her what she said. They've got breakfast burritos (Rico Suave) and breakfast sandwiches (Bodega) and that's it. Yes, they have a few drinks, but as for food, it's a pretty easy menu to memorize. Rico Suave or Bodega. The burritos are legit. They're not huge but they are crammed full of goodness and there is no wasted space. For a medium-sized burrito, it's a belly-bomb. It's got eggs, cheese, tots, avocado, and bacon. They gave me two types of very good sause on the side (red salsa and cilantro crema). The Bodega is also very good. It's bacon, eggs, cheddar cheese, and hot sauce on an excellent ciabatta roll. I preferred the burrito to the sandwich but they are both very good. They've got a few seats inside but nearly everyone gets takeout. Their online orders are insane. And nearly everyone gets the burrito. Lots of street parking which was plentiful on a Sunday morning. We're back baby! I really, really really, really hope that is for good this time ! After waiting for some time, and then giving it another shot, twice now, the breakfast experience was really great! The bacon is still paper thin but at least it's no longer a filling with strips of fat, but actual thinly sliced meaty bacon. Maybe I was lucky enough not to run into a chef who doesn't know how to make them, but both times their famous burritos were tasty, still greasy but satisfying. There is one young guy who works there, whose Rico Suaves are a work of art, every time. I also like that plastic squeezy packets with salsa are gone. Wow... a previous review talking about the lack of quality in their bacon wasn't kidding...I think I've had bacon thicker than this at McDonalds... Flavorwise, it was a bit bland. The red salsa was my favorite of the 2 but needed a bit of heat to take it to the next level. I preferred the chicken chorizo (+$1) over the bacon and the addition of grilled onions (+$1), caramelized beautifully, added a lot of flavor and would be my preferred way to eat one of their burritos.
