I stopped by Convi for their breakfast items and loved them! It's next door to and from the same people as Jurassic Magic coffee shop. It's like a convenience store mixed in with a deli and they have aforementioned great breakfast items, as well. The Breakfast Burrito ($16) had scrambled eggs, tater tots, bacon, cheese and pickled jalapenos ~ loved it. Even more than the burrito, I liked the Egg & Cheese Sandwich ($12) which seemed simple with just egg, cheese, chives and mayo but goodness! I loved the fluffy ingredients and the bun was buttery smooth, as well. Excellent breakfast! Convi has a few outdoor tables where you can chill & gather with friends. I had never heard of this place before, and don't often venture to Mid-City, but a friend who knows all the trendy spots wanted to take me here to try their sandwiches. It's a cute, off-the-beaten-path venue - a sandwich shop that also feels like a hipster convenience store, kind of a cross between a NOLA and a Japanese-style convenience shop. I was told their breakfast burrito and Italian sandwich are great, and the staff were friendly and helpful. They recommended the Italian for a big appetite, and it was indeed filling! The bread was fantastic - either they have great in-house baking skills or source it from a top-notch bakery. While not a classic Italian sub, the one I had with pepperoncini was delicious and satisfying. I'd definitely go back and try the breakfast burrito. However, it is a bit pricey. This little hidden gem tucked in a neighborhood. Give me nyc bodega vibes but much cooler. Loved all the details of all the items too purchase candy and my favorite chips from Spain. GET. THE. BURRITO. I cannot overstate how good this effin' burrito is. I get the regular breakfast burrito with green salsa (on the side). The bacon and potatoes inside are perfectly crispy and the peppers give it a nice little kick. And a little dash of the green salsa is a nice flavor addition. It's not super-oversized but plenty big that you'll be comfortably full afterwards. I did see another reviewer who had a negative experience regarding the burrito, but in regards to their comments on grease, I have never found them to be greasy or heavy. And I tend to avoid super heavy or greasy foods. But maybe the reviewer was more sensitive to it, or actually got a random bad burrito. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Convi also has other fun sweet and salty snacks, soft drinks, and refrigerated treats, as well as, last minute/oops items like condoms and Plan B -- and other "Aw shit, we're out of toothpaste" type household things. The folks behind the counter are super nice, and the space and overall vibes are great. Convi is next door to Jurassic Magic, the coffee shop, so the outdoor seating covers both places (since they're both owned by the same folks). And every time I walk over, the space is packed with a vibrant, diverse crowd --although I feel very old and poorly dressed when I breeze through, but that's on me and my poor/lazy wardrobe choices. ;-) I've lost all perspective on what things cost since Los Angeles is insanely expensive no matter where you go. So your mileage may vary in regards to whether or not you think you're getting good value. A lot of times what you're paying for is the experience, and the fact that someone made it for you. I saw this place online and figured I would go give it a try because I was looking for a decent breakfast burrito. Using TikTok as a means to find a good place to eat may have been my first mistake as creators on there often prioritize aesthetics over quality of product. This theme of gilded mediocrity is present as soon as you enter Convi. Convi presents as many gentrified establishments do. It is beautiful, it is clean, and everything is meticulously arranged to please the eye. What makes the space gilded though is the utter lack of substance that lies beneath the thin veneer of intentional curation. I was the only person in the store. The staff who were chatting weren't rude per se, maybe just a bit judgy. They along with the customer they were chatting with made eye contact with me three times and continued to talk while I just stood there waiting for a few minutes. Eventually the customer left, and I placed my order with the cashier who was kind. My gripe isn't with the staff. Even in a pretentious fake bodega, it still must suck to work there so I can empathize with a mean mug or dismissive attitude. My issue is with the fact that a "deli" that caters to the predominantly white upper middle faux artist class placed itself in a neighborhood whose residents are mostly working class people of color. Even more egregious than that, Convi doesn't even have anything that good to offer the people who already live there. Just the same flavorless overpriced vibe that makes you think as you wait for your $18 burrito, "This place has GOT to be laundering money right? They're selling restaurant supply toilet paper in a wicker basket there's no way." The burrito itself was fine. Name a burrito from any mid tier coffee shop on the Westside and I guarantee it tastes just as okay as this one. The man who made it was exceptionally kind. It's important to clarify that new businesses moving into different neighborhoods isn't inherently bad. What was evident in this space, besides the fact that everything on the shelves and in the fridge was intended more for presentation than consumption, is that this space is for a specific demographic. So if you are from a flyover state, or a cul-de-sac in Boca and you moved to LA to figure yourself out, or maybe you just got in from your sublet in Bushwick, Convi is right up your alley. This space answers the question, "how did Echo Park and Silver Lake turn into... that??" This. This type of place is exactly how. So my advice to you is shake out your distressed Japanese denim jeans, put on your Carhartt beanie you got on Depop for $36, light up an American Spirit, and head on down to Convi! To have the same overpriced, generic, whitewashed interpretation of foods that have defined LA's culture for decades. You can even tell your friends back in Indiana that you went to the bodega on the corner like a real Angeleno! It's not like you'd know the difference anyways, right? read more

I'm a big fan of Jurassic Magic (partner coffee shop just next door) but was disappointed by Convi's high prices and food quality. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito which was $14. This was priced a little high for the size and ingredients, but it is LA, so I thought why not. Initially when eating the burrito I thought it tasted okay but the hot sauce really helped add flavor. I then ate the second half of the burrito a couple of hours later and immediately got sick. I don't think it was food poisoning, but my stomach had already been feeling queasy and I believe it was due to the oil/grease in the burrito. I do recognize it was my choice to eat the burrito and it also is my tolerance of greasy foods (I almost never eat fast food) but for the price of the burrito I can't justify the taste and/or quality. Also, someone ordered the veggie sandwich and it was an addition $4 to add turkey which is exhorbitant for this being a corner store. I didn't try anything else but noted a cup of fruit was $5 and small parfait with fruit was $6. I most likely won't be back unless I'm in a pinch. I visited a couple of times this week. The first time I ordered the Italian sub and let me just say IT WAS SOO GOOD. I also picked up a sprite and a lemonade flavored water. The sub had so much flavor and was made perfectly. It was $10 for half a sub which is a little more on the pricey side, but I feel like it's common for food in the area. Today I ordered the chicken sandwich and honestly the toppings were all so yummy and so was the bun. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken but that may just be my own preference. I'd really like to try other items on the menu seeing as this place has really blown my mind as far as sauces and fresh ingredients. I like that they have a large assortment of drink and soda alternatives. Definitely recommend stopping in and looking around. They do have street parking and outdoor seating available.
