The Root is a perfect spot for some quaint chatting with an old friend, a good book, or some hours of studying (that is, if you can find a seat). The food is fresh and prepared to order -- with whole food ingredients + vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free options. I often chose the Root Wrap for its heartiness & a golden milk latte for its Ayurvedic properties. Sad to say, although their gf vegan baked goods are often stocked, gf options for wraps + bread have recently fallen by the wayside. Servers are often welcoming upon your entrance. The most recent time I came here, there was a hiccup with my drink... as they made an espresso latte and not a golden milk latte - but they were happy to re-make it. The Root will never go out of style, for me.

Great vegan cafe in Lakewood. The vibes are chill while also lively with many people meeting and chatting. There's plenty of space and tables to camp out and get work down. Luckily it never got too loud. There's a lot of natural light that comes in so it's pretty bright, which I appreciated. I got the sweet potatoe Sammy, which was a warm wrap with sweet potatoes, avocado, and some other veggies. The menu is vegan, but they did have regular provolone cheese, so I added that. My Mel was $27 total, so kind of pricey for a wrap and smoothie. The sandwich was really tasty and filling. I also got the matcha smoothie, which was good as well. Service was super friendly and pretty quick. I'd definitely return if in the area. There's no parking lot, but plenty of street parking around the cafe.

The vibes are so cozy inside and there's lots of natural light thanks to all the windows. The staff are very welcoming, kind, and patient. They were quick and excited to answer any questions I had about the menu. If you get the matcha be sure to ask for extra sweeteners/honey especially if it's hot because it is a little bitter and flavorless. The food overall though is so delicious. All the ingredients taste fresh and like someone really took their time (literally-- be prepared to wait a bit. it is all worth it!). I always feel so satiated and healthy after eating here.

The Root Cafe is a staple in Lakewood and is a good place to go for healthy and vegetarian food. I have been several times and really enjoy their sandwiches. I recently tried one of their pizzas, the Hoffman's bicycle one which was good but a tad too sweet for me with the tang dressing. The cafe is always pretty busy around the lunch hours, but people come and go so the wait for a table isn't too long. The service is fast as well. My one complaint is that the prices are very high for what you get. I feel that if you are paying $14 for a sandwich, it should at least come with a side. That being said, for me The Root Cafe is an every once in awhile treat for me if I want some good-tasting and healthy food.

My second choice vegetarian restaurant in the Lakewood area of Cleveland turned out pretty good (the first one was packed). I found a welcoming menu of real food kind of items. The place was well attended by a young, hip crowd but I didn't have any trouble finding a seat. My matcha was offered with honey but fine unsweetened, and my vegan burrito offered no shortage of flavors, bursting with salsa, kale, sweet potatoes, and more. The check was higher than I would have thought, and included some high tip options (up to 70%!) for a place with counter ordering service. I didn't like them quite that much, but it was good quality food.

Came here after seeing Elf at the Becks Theater. It was a nice place for six of us to enjoy a warm cup,of tea or coffee after the show. The staff was really nice and the coffee was delicious. I had the card I'm on syrup, added to my cappuccino and it was really a nice treat. They had ceiling fans going on high which was the only down side. It was cool enough and just made for a bit of brrrr when the door opened, from the outside. Would return to enjoy other coffees. PS. They also have food, but we did not have anything. People were enjoying baked goods and sandwiches. Quite a few were sitting with computers or reading a book.

Root is a really cool community coffee shop/diner. Food is organic, and vegan and GF baked goods uses Root's own flour blend. The room is L shaped with tables and counters. Duck and Rabbit coffee in bags is for sale, as well as other cool gift items. The menu includes salads, sandwiches, pizza, calzones, and breakfast items. Coffee comes in all varieties. I had from the dessert menu a 12 oz cup of Mayan mocha with a shake of cayenne that allowed a hot swallow. Delicious. There are also teas. Bring in your own cup! Order online!

I've known about The Root for a while now. A few years ago, I was told by someone that it was their favorite coffee shop in town. It's completely vegan here. They have food too! And only alt milks. I got an iced vanilla latte, while my sister got an iced lavender latte, and my other friend got the lavender latte hot. Really good! Espresso was light, but the syrups were fantastic! I believe they make it in house? Staff was fun to chat with too. Friendly and smiley. They also love the donuts at the Vegan Doughnut place nearby. The space reminds me of a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop I used to go to back in college. Wood floors, plants, even a shelf with board games. They also had what I think was a communal fridge. Interesting concept! Would love to come back!

Had an awesome brunch here today! They have a great lunch menu but they serve breakfast all day which I totally love. They have several breakfast sandwich options...it was hard to choose which one. I went for the Adam's egg sandwich and swapped out the bread for a vegan biscuit (for a $1 upcharge). It was delicious and didn't make me feel like garbage after I ate the whole thing, which is always a great bonus. My friend got the damn good egg sandwich and agreed it was aptly named...especially with that garlic sauce. I ordered a cafe au lait with their house made nut milk and house made cardamom syrup and it was *chef's kiss*. I will be back for sure!

I love this place, they have really good options to choose from and I've taken my picky bf and mom here and they enjoyed themselves. Everyone's really nice and the vibes just gives me small town cafe, like everyone's really nice, games, none of the furniture really matches lol it's very cute. The only thing that's kind of off is how long it takes for food but that's how I know it's being made fresh and it usually always is. Also it can get really busy in the morning so I just go after lunch. But I definitely recommend if you're starting your vegan journey or just is mindful about what your putting in your body.

I found this wonderful place here on Yelp and was quite impressed. I wasn't greeted or even looked at upon walking in the restaurant, and there was no sign that said Seat yourself or order at the counter. I figured it out after a minute, grabbed a menu and went to order. I am pretty sure it's just due to staff shortages so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They were friendly and the food was delivered within 15 minutes. I had the Working Man's breakfast burrito and it was tasty and gigantic. I got 2 meals out of it and I'd definitely go back and try some other items. Street parking was plentiful and not too expensive and there's a good vibe overall.

Matcha latte and an oat-milk latte

Delicious refreshments. I got their ice latte with just oat milk because I wasn't feeling anything sweet. It was delicious. The atmosphere was great and there was art showcased everywhere. It gets pretty busy though, so if you are going with a large group it may be pretty tricky to find seating.

The front is unassuming, and this combo isn't something you see every day, but somehow, it works... or at least, it's interesting enough to give it a shot. I visited the coffee shop side while working nearby (walking distance) at the co-working center (Icon Cowork). I ordered the red eye. Honestly? It delivered. It wired me for days. It was extremely strong and not well crafted (too much, definitely not barista made). But boy did it do its job. While at the coffee shop, I noticed a small menu of other drinks and no baked goods in the case. It just really had the basics. Service was very quick. The barista (who worked both sides of the house) was nice enough, but the vibe was more transactional than inviting. Not rude, just kind of indifferent. The space had enough tables to sit at and very quiet atmosphere. One thing I couldn't ignore was the scent of vape juice hanging in the air. It didn't bother me personally, but I can see how that could be a turn-off if you're expecting more of a traditional coffee shop aesthetic. Of note is that both sides of the business have the same entrance. They're working on dividing the space into two separate ones according to my quick chat with the employee. Currently the coffee shop has no age restrictions while the smoke shop is 21+. Overall? Burning River Coffee is quirky and good for a simple cup of coffee. It's not a textbook coffee shop experience -- it's its own thing. Just don't expect the usual indie-coffeehouse playlist and aesthetic. Expect something unexpected and different.

The location is great to walk to neighborhood shops and restaurants in Lakewood. The friendly staffer really worked her latte magic! She said she always adds a little bit of vanilla to punch up the flavors of the lattes. The coffees were so good. I also appreciated that they used lots of ice....perfectly cold and creamy. The baked goods looked nothing like the pictures on Yelp, but they did have several vegan and gf options. This morning they also had fresh cinnamon rolls.

I was envisioning a chill, slower-paced, comfy, lowkey bar or lounge to have conversations and interesting drinks after dinner with coworkers and friends. Nothing nearby fit the bill except this (genius idea!) place and it was absolutely perfect for the vibe and ambiance of what I was looking for! It was a relaxing, well lit, spacious but still intimate, tidy but still unique area to hang in. I ordered a make it yourself blend of a calming kratom, pineapple juice and raspberry flavor. It was fantastic and the S size in a mason jar was perfect. It tasted a bit like green tea mixed with botanicals and juice. My friend got the blue lotus drink with pineapple juice but it was kind of bland, earthy with only a tiny hint of sweetness. My other friend got a coffee...with lavender syrup because she's bonkers and also was too chicken to try kratom. It wasn't too loud but there was someone playing piano pretty badly (maybe on purpose) that surprisingly wasn't too distracting. We had a great time and I would definitely come back.

I added a little sweetener that they had available (I think raw sugar) and took my tea to go. I got to sample a little Kava and Kratom upon walking in because I had never tried them before. The employee explained what they were to me because I had never heard of them. They are supposed to help with anxiety, stress, and mood. Kava is a root and Kratom comes from the leaves of a specific tree so both are essentially plants. After sampling them, both tasted very bitter to me so I didn't like it which is fine (haha). The Kava had a dirt or grainy texture and the kratom had a lighter but more bitter flavour. The employee did mention to me that both would taste bitter and earthy. I did not order any drinks with them upon sampling them but they sell an assortment of drinks that include Kava and Kratom. Customer service was friendly. If you like Kava and Kratom or want to try it then come visit this Sacred Waters Kava bar in Lakewood. It's not my preference. The male employee working told me that they used to be affiliated with the other Kava bar in Cleveland (North Olmsted location, I think) but they are no longer affiliated with that location as the business partners stopped working together. **** GOAL of 150 reviews in 2024 - 69/150 total reviews in 2024 - 719 total overall Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 18 July 2024

It's the only Albanian cafe in Ohio. I visited after hearing about this cafe from friends. Shortly thereafter it really trended on Instagram. AMBIANCE: The cafe is simple and spacious. There are two dining rooms that can serve various customers - high tables for solo guests, tables for two or large parties. Many guests prefer the patio. The location is on a picturesque street with a lot of trees and nature. It's a relaxing experience. In many ways it's just an average cafe - large windows, exposed brick walls, and coffee aroma. I other ways, it's incredibly authentic. Guests watch Albanian soccer or linger on the patio. The combination of soccer and cafe feels very cool and very Balkan. At the heart of the place is a wall with hand carved Albanian art and well recognized Albanian eagle. It's interesting to gaze at these fragments of culture and appreciate the artistry. FOOD: I was surprised by the very budget-friendly bill. I purchased Turkish coffee and two bureks totaling about $12. I did not feel as though Turkish coffee was very authentic - too many grounds, and too acidic. It also did not have the usual awakening effect that I was going for. Bureks are traditional Balkan pastries with cheese and spinach. I selected two varieties and liked them. They were gold, savory, and just right for a light lunch. It was explained to me that bureks are very popular in Albania. The rest of the menu featured various coffees, wine, and small sweet bites. SERVICE: You can start your experience at this cafe by ordering at the counter, sitting down, and paying at the end. The service was great for a casual cafe. The cafe employee was attentive to my needs, checked on small things like my sugar needs. It was evident that most guests are regulars reconnecting with their culture. I enjoyed the bureks, the hospitality, and the location. I had a lovely little lunch at the cafe. I'd probably stop at some point during the summer to enjoy the patio and other coffee selections.

I most recently stopped in during fall to winter transition when the cafe was already dressed up for Christmas - paper snowflakes descending from the ceiling, read bows and stockings adorning the walls, and a Christmas tree in the window. So festive! AMBIANCE: Cafe is one open space with vintage vibes - floral and funky wallpaper, vintage and artisan accessories sold at the cafe, and antique gold frames decorating the walls. The vibes are cozy and calm. The back of the cafe features barista lounge where baristas can relax during their shift, which is a nice amenity. The tables at the cafe get very quickly filled. I almost always get my order to go due to the lack of seating options. My only hesitation about visiting is the lack of one seat options/nooks. I sometimes like to go to a cafe to sit down for a while, read a book, and just pause. There are no options to have this experience here. While I always want to linger, I just take my order to go. If you do manage to get a table as a solo guest, there are some books by the checkout that I'm sure you can borrow. FOOD/DRINKS: Brewella's always invents fun seasonal specials - drinks and food. I always order from the seasonal menu. I also always order crepes. It's hard to find crepes around here that are well prepared. They get them just right at this cafe every single time. This time I ordered Merry Maple Latte ($5), Pear & Brie Crepe ($11). I wasn't crazy about either choice. Merry Maple Latte was too heavy on the milk that overpowered the flavors. I couldn't taste maple at all. Pear & Brie Crepe also didn't hit the spot due to pears. They were too mushy for my liking and too artificially flavored. I feel like pear jam substitute would be a better choice. While I wouldn't order these specific menu items again, I always love crepes and lattes at Brewella's. SERVICE: The service is pretty transactional. I tend to chat with the baristas at other local cafes, often know their names, and enjoy the interaction. Here the service is quick but there are no warm interactions. It's really what I like the least about Brewella's, there's a lack of connection. PARKING: Only street parking available. Parking is a bit hard to come by during the weekends. I plan to arrive early in the day for my next Brewella's visit and bring some friends to enjoy the table seating. I can't wait to see Valentine's Day decor at Brewella's and new drink creations! If you love holiday decor and inventive seasonal drinks this the place for you!
