They've got great coffee drinks and a good number of options for vegetarians with plenty of seating in a funky, unique coffeehouse-style atmosphere. The vegetarian quiche available when I was there was pepper-jack...awfully tasty and a good-sized slice too. You order at the counter and find a table. We were there with about 6 people and, although it was fairly busy, it didn't take long (on a late Wednesday morning) for us to find a place for all of us. They've got couches and comfy chairs, as well as regular tables and chairs for a more traditional dining experience. We dug the atmosphere and overall local vibe of the place. They're coffees and things that go in the coffees (milks and honey) are locally sourced, so a good amount of thought goes into what goes into what they're serving you. First time here, came with friends on a Sunday for lunch. It's located right across from Lake Fowler, so you can choose to dine inside or take your order to-go and sit at one of the lakeside tables. Inside, there are numerous seating areas for different-sized groups, spread across several "rooms" that give you a sense of privacy. Large front windows let in plenty of natural light, making the space feel open and bright. We arrived right around noon, just as the lunch crowd was filling in. There was a short line that moved quickly. Service was friendly and helpful while we placed our order. We decided on the Brie Salad and the Avocado Toast, along with a Lemonade and a London Fog Tea Latte. I gave them my special instructions for the latte (a little lavender, a little vanilla, extra foam, in a mug), and they were happy to make it exactly as requested. Orders come with a number, and the staff delivers your food right to your table. The wait was short before our food arrived, and the entire meal was excellent. My Avocado Toast was a treat -- layered with toast, cream cheese (yes, cream cheese!), avocado, and feta on top. It was so good as is, but next time I'll ask if they can add a poached egg on top -- that would make it even more amazing. A great first-time experience here. Roots Coffeebar was the perfect caffeine stop when exploring Downtown Oconomowoc. The inside is a lot larger than the building lets on when plenty of seating. Their menu offers a variety of coffee, tea, baked goods, sandwiches, and more! I ordered a Lavender Honey Iced Coffee and was able ti add my own cream from their self-serve station. My friend recently moved about a block away from here so when he said "Coffee?" I said yes and we walked over for some breakfast. The atmosphere is comfortable; typical coffee shop vibe. We ordered simply- a couple of toasted bagels (love that they had peanut butter for me) as well as a black coffee for me and a soda for my friend. We must have gotten there at just the right time as right after we sat down, a line formed and didn't go away the entire time we were inside. Plenty of seating inside with some seating outside on the street. The crowd on this Tuesday morning was a mix of mom's and their kids, business people tucked away on their computers and other people from the neighborhood. This is one of my go to coffee shops for morning coffee. It's pretty large inside and has numerous tables. So you can feel ok about spending some time there to read or do work. It has a good vibe given the layout, a nice mix of music and always friendly staff. The coffee is Anodyne, which is a very good, full flavored coffee. I often get a no bake protein ball. They're a bit sweet, but not excessively sweet with oatmeal, peanut butter and chocolate chips. It's enough for me to consider it breakfast. Since I'm there practically when they open up, parking on the streets is easy. Can't speak to later in the day as I'm an early riser. Highly recommend! read more

I've been to The Roots twice now, and each time has been pretty average. The coffee shop is well decorated and there is a decent amount of seating. However, the prices are pretty high compared to other coffee shops. My small iced chai latte with almond milk ran me $6.30 (including tax). That's 10-15% more expensive than many of the coffee shops in Waukesha. If it was mind-blowingly delicious, I'd be okay spending that money. But it's not, so only come here if you like the vibe and the location and you have a punch card. (Though you'll have to purchase SIXTEEN DRINKS in order to get your free one. Many of the other coffee shops with loyalty cards only require twelve drinks before you get your free one.) The Roots has a nice variety of food and treats to choose from. If you're a picky eater or you have kids, you won't really have an issue finding something to eat. Parking can be difficult to find. There is some both in front of and behind the building. But since it's all street/public parking, you might be stuck looking for a spot for a while. Honestly, I don't think I'll return here. Unless a friend of mine specifically requests we go to this coffee shop, I'm going to stick to the coffee shops in Waukesha (like Mama D's or Cafe De Arts). read more

I decided to check out this coffee bar, but the Internet came and went. It was super sketchy. The person behind the register said that they have problems with it so if you are planning to stay for a couple of hours, get a bite to eat grab a latte and work, it's gonna be difficult. I also had their quiche, which was not good. It was like one big egg yolk that was kind of slimy on top all the way through. We were staying local and traveled back to Roots twice on our trip. The menu is grand here and I love that they offer kid food all day. There is plenty of seating and as areas are sectioned off for additional privacy if needed. My son was extremely satisfied with the Mac and cheese he received for breakfast both days. My husband tried the breakfast sandwich and was delighted how it tasted. Both days I ordered the oatmeal topped with coconut flakes and berries accompied with a side of oak milk and brown sugar. Our first visit was unique as the town was experiencing a tornado warning. The owner was extremely attentive to all guests and offered the basement for safety if we choose to stay. This was my first time here. Coffee good (Anodyne coffee!), food good, just barely found a place to sit but managed. My one suggestion to the cafe is to train your workers to give a closing warning . . . somehow I had the closing time wrong in my mind by two hours, and all of the sudden a teenage girl showed up in front of me and said, "We're closed" in a slightly rude tone. I found this place on a whim because it is next door to the Children's Play Gallery, it has accessible door that goes directly to the Roots Coffee & Cafe, after playing at the gallery me and my son were hungry so we went next door to Roots and we ordered a homemade quiche and vegetable soup. Both were fantastic, the crust to the quiche was crispy and buttery, and the soup was well-made and delicious. It's a very cozy atmosphere as well, towards the back there is a faux fireplace that looks cozy. Each time me and my son go to the gallery we will definitely be eating there afterward. Also tried the apple pie bar bakery item and I am not sure why this would be popular or worth the money - the dough was pretty much uncooked, and such a cold dessert did not go well with my apple pie brain. Excellent customer service, relaxing environment to be able to get work done you can't get done at home or just if you need to get a place to get things done. The Coffee isn't burnt which is harder and harder to find, they have other snacks, sandwiches and munchies as well. People that work there and go there seem to be extremely nice to everyone. This is a real coffee shop that people can go to and feel like they are going to a second home/office. Also: Nothing against Roots Coffeebar but be forewarned to park out back if you want to avoid tickets. The service was very helpful and personal to satiate my appetite after a morning of roaming all of Oconomowoc's boutiques for autumn sweaters for my female kin. I was captivated to try out the musically themed menu items, so I went for The Doors. The combination of the melting garlic herb cream cheese, warm sourdough slices, and melty provolone was a nice retreat from the lower fall temperatures. Stopped here for a quick bite to eat and a cup of coffee. Both of us had the Greek salad. The salad was very delicious, complete with Kalamata olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, Feta cheese, and vinaigrette dressing. The interior is very quaint and comfortable, staggered seating due to COVID-19, but very accommodating. The staff was cordial, and very attentive. A wide variety of coffees and teas...and individually prepared by the baristas. Definitely a return trip. read more

Fact: I added this business page to Yelp and wrote its first review (5 stars). Here's why: 1.) Coffee in Oconomowoc sucks super bad in general, so a new coffee shop with a legit-looking menu was exciting. 2.) Coffee shops in Oconomowoc are ugly. This place is decorated well. 3.) I had to give Roots the new-restaurant benefit of the doubt, and hope that the food and drinks would get really good as they found their groove over time. It's been a year, and the only thing that's changed is the stars. What I mean is, the coffee kinda sucks (my previous review talked about just one drink). The chai is undrinkably sweet. The customer service has left a bad taste in my mouth (or was that the coffee?). The baristas still don't know much about coffee. The best food is nothing special. It's still the best looking coffee shop in Oconomowoc. I just can't disagree with the previous reviewer who wrote that this wouldn't fly in Chicago. It wouldn't fly in Milwaukee. Something tells me it wouldn't even fly in the dirty 'stAllis. I just think a year is plenty of time to get your ish together and run a good business. All in all, it's okay. It would be a great place to meet up for lunch or conversation with a friend, but definitely not a place to get much work done, which is usually my main purpose of frequenting coffee shops. I can attest to the some of these other yelp reviews: it can get really loud. As the morning went on it got a lot busier, and there were a lot of kids at the front of the Cafe. Halfway through the morning, a guy came in and started playing guitar. He wasn't a live performer for the Cafe though, just literally sitting at a table with his guitar and appeared to be practicing. More power to you, Guitar Dude, but they had music going already and I found the clash pretty distracting. The whole ordeal was just very random to me, but maybe he had a gig at Roots later or something. Service is friendly, the food is pretty good. (I had the Bagel Breakfast Sandwich with bacon. Delish.) I love this place! This is one cafe that you most certainly have to stop in and hang out. Love the ambient setting and calm atmosphere. My lady and I always get gift cards from family members to this store so we are thrilled to come back. We usually get the artichoke dip - mmmm...mmmm so good, I totally recommend this place to anyone who like an environment made to feel like your hanging in your own house. Lately, the one thing I am slightly bummed out about is they stopped doing the open mic night on Fridays...I understand the reasons behind this decision were legitimate, but there are many reasons to bring it back ;) Overall, this place is on fiiiyyyaaahhh (not literally) - as the younger generation (not that I am that old) seems to calls things nowadays...definitely check it out!!!! read more

Coffee shop on steroids .... In the good way . First thing I noticed when I walked in was how big the place was . There is lots and lots of seating . They have tables and the ever so cliche sofas . You can enter via the street or the back by the lake . Their menu is so much more then just coffee . They have smoothies , small plates , hot and cold sandwiches , wraps , salads , soups and Bakery . They serve breakfast as well . Now let's get to the important part : the coffee . They have the coffee on its own board and they have seasonal specials as well . I got the Carmel Apple latte and it was amazing. . Not to sweet , more coffee tasting . I also ordered the Beatles sandwich . I liked that the jam was the kind with the seeds in it .
