    Egg and cheese breakfast sandwich
    Ophelia M.

Stopped by The Steaming Cup for coffee and breakfast on a recent Saturday morning. It's a super cute spot and the environment is pitch perfect and exactly what I love in a coffee shop (warm, welcoming, and a little quirky). The service was also lovely. I ordered one of their seasonal, specialty lattes. The espresso was a bit bitter and the latte it was not mixed so all of the flavoring was on the bottom (the same with my dining companion). We were both confused as it tasted like a plain latte until the last few sips which were sickly sweet. So, my recommendation would be if it tastes a bit off, maybe give it a stir. Would likely have changed the entire experience for us! The egg and cheese breakfast sandwich I got was a solid ok. It had lots of tomatoes and mayo--neither of which I'm a big fan of on a breakfast sandwich. Maybe we ordered a bit wrong? Will have to try again next time we're in the area.

I was very pleased with the service and options. I had a lavender cappuccino which was quite good. I also tried the espresso love cake. That was also very good. I make a version of this cake. It's a moist chocolate cake baked around a cheese cake filling and this one was covered with a fudge. It was excellent. This place is hopping even in the middle of the day. We sat in the main dining area, but there is a back seating area and outdoor seating as well. It's a very cute coffee shop. There is so much more here that I want to try so next time I'm in town I'll have to go back.

Easy parking, great vibe, fantastic coffee. Our favorite place to stop for coffee when in Waukesha. If I lived here I would come here for breakfast, lunch, and coffee regularly. In addition to friendly service the shop is beautifully decorated.

First time coming here. Definitely loved how quick and great the service was. Real liked the atmosphere inside this place, lots of pretty cool signs hanging around. Our food was very tasty and done right. Definitely will be back.

Quaint little shop at a little town. They have good coffee and simple breakfast (actually healthy options). The vibe is good too.

I've been to The Steaming Cup close to a dozen times at this point, and my experiences there have varied wildly. The baristas are always friendly, but there isn't much consistency in the food or the beverages. I typically go for an iced chai latte with almond milk and a pastry. The past two times I've visited, I ordered the blueberry coffee cake. The first time I tried it, the cake was moist and fluffy and there were tons of blueberries inside. It also had a nice lemon flavor to it. Today, I ordered the blueberry coffee cake again and it was nothing like the last one. The cake was dry and crumbly, there weren't many blueberries, and the edges (presumably where the coffee cake was removed from the pan it was baked in) were oddly greasy. Whenever I order a chai latte, it's usually pretty sweet. But sometimes, like today, it tastes almost bitter - despite me consistently ordering the vanilla flavor. Sometimes the chai is blended beautifully and you get a smooth taste. But other times, it's not blended well at all and you get a weird silt that settles at the bottom (see photo). It's also a bit disappointing that The Steaming Cup doesn't have reusable plates or utensils. All of the bakery items come packaged in a plastic clam shell container or a plastic/cellophane bag. Because of this, they never offer to heat up your pastry. In this respect, I wish they were more similar to places like Mama D's where they put your pastry on a reusable ceramic plate to heat up along with a metal fork. The Steaming Cup also doesn't have reusable water cups. The shop itself is absolutely beautiful. The decor is perfectly kitschy and cozy. There is plenty of seating both in the front and back rooms and outside along the sidewalk. Even during peak hours, it shouldn't be that difficult to find somewhere to sit. Because The Steaming Cup is located downtown, parking can be pretty hit or miss, depending on the day. If you can't find parking on the street, I'd check out the Clinton Street lot and the lot next to Associated Bank.

Ask the Community - The Steaming Cup

Does the restaurant serve omelettes and chicken fried steak and pancakes and biscuits and gravy?

Nope! This is more of a cafe...focused on coffee & tea beverages, small breakfast bites, bakery, and soup/salad/sandwich deal for lunch/dinner. :)

Anyone have a picture of the back room? Thinking of 8 people for an informal meeting. Would that room work? Thanks.

I thought I had pictures loaded of the back room but they actually have two separate rooms back there and yes it is big enough to hold 8 people. They would have to put tables together. The 2nd room back there is a bit tight for 8 but with proper… Read more

I mean, I fell in love instantly! Soft jazz music only enhanced everything. Our server was a very pleasant young woman, who answered our questions, and brought our food and coffee drinks quickly. I also had the chance to chat with one of the owners, a delightful woman, who was happy to tell me about a few of the artworks I found especially interesting. Two of my friends had the Art of the Egg sandwich, the other had the Art of the Veggie sandwich, and all three said their selections were delicious. I selected the Turkish borek as my entree, and it was SO good with its flaky phyllo crust and spinach and feta filling, and it was accompanied by the cafe's signature side salad with apples and berries and dressed lightly with a vinaigrette. And I firmly believe the hot latte with a shot of almond flavoring was the best I have ever had - so creamy, with a perfect head of foamed milk on top. Absolutely incredible meal - I'm going back next week to introduce another friend to this unique cafe.

The place is still as cute as ever, and the staff are very nice and helpful. Unfortunately, their lattes come across more like warmed milk with foam on top. The temperature and flavor were good, but the texture below the foam was flat. Maybe I need to request extra frothy next time. I also had a chance to try one of their specialty pastries, the Fig Kurabiye. That was amazingly good. They warmed it up a bit, and it was moist and delicious. Like the best Fig Newton you'll ever have. Next time, I would definitely ask for an upgrade if ordering a latte.

I saw a picture of their breakfast burrito on social media and made plans to stop the next day. In addition to the breakfast burrito, which came with a side of hash browns, I ordered cheddar broccoli soup and was gifted a brownie for visiting. The breakfast burrito is build your own with a bunch of different options for meats, cheese, and veggies. I went with bacon, American cheese, and spinach and wasn't disappointed. The burrito was hefty and every one of the ingredients stood out. This is something I would definitely come back for. The three hash brown patties tasted as you'd expect and I appreciate that they weren't cold in the middle or bland. You can definitely notice the freshness in the soup. It was thick and used actual florets of broccoli, not just the stalks. Given the size of the burrito I had just eaten, though, I wish there was an option for a smaller portion of soup. The bowl was large and if you just plan on having that as a meal it's fine, but I would have preferred buying a cup as compared to a large bowl. Hopefully that's something they consider as a menu tweak. I'm not a big brownie person, but I enjoyed it. Like the burrito and the soup, it was a sizable portion, so worth the price if you're buying one. I'd be interested in trying their lemon bar or coffee cake on a future visit as those are more up my alley. I enjoyed talking to the woman who was prepping the dining area while I was there. She mentioned that Senor Luna's next door is their sister location and that Miss Daisy's has such early hours (currently 5am during the week) so as to cater to the nearby business park. I appreciate the early hours because I can easily make it there and back over to where I work in plenty of time.

It was great to see it was a hot dog place instead of a burger joint; I ordered a hot dog with ketchup and relish and a side of onion rings, but no beverage as I had one in the car. Anyway, the hot dog was ok, but the meat itself was kind of soft and spongy, not to my liking. The onion rings, described to me by the order taker as fantastic, were, in reality, disgusting. They tasted like old, rancid oil and consisted mostly of a thick batter with the thinnest actual onion slice. I ate two small rings and tossed the rest. Just gross. I really wish I could have had an excellent dog and rings, because when I indulge in a fast food meal, that's what I love, and few places offer hot dogs anymore.
