TAKING OUT: Jain ( no garlic or onion) Dilliwala Butter Chicken, Naan, The Lentil Club
    Carolyn F.

Indian - owned. I expected a bit more of the food. I stayed at the hotel attached to this restaurant and on my way out I requested to go to bring home to the family. The butter chicken was a bit odd. It felt like. sliced chicken breasts were tossed in butter chicken sauce, so I give it two stars. The rice was light and fluffy, but slightly greasy, a 3 1/2 starside dish. The dal dish was a very big disappointment, especially at the price. All in all, with the exception of the non-which was delicious, just. an ordinary meal. The host/Manager, who took my order gets five stars.

I ordered take out and was very disappointed with the butter chicken curry and the tandoori chicken. The butter chicken curry may have curdled. Looked very weird. The tandoori chicken was well overcooked and too hard for my kids and I to eat. We also ordered the eggplant gravy curry which was very good along with a brown fish curry which was also good. We had the Chicken and cheese nan which was good and the lamb nan. It could've use a little bit more flavor but. All in all for the amount of money spent the food was not worth it.

I was staying at the Holiday Inn Westbury for the first time. The Royale Indian restaurant is connected to the Holiday Inn's hotel lobby so you don't have to walk outside. I found that the restaurant named "The Royale" Indian restaurant was rated #1 on Yelp, therefore, I ate dinner here. I love good Indian food. The Royale was empty when I arrived at around 6pm, therefore, I chose my table in the middle of the dining room. Their knowledgeable server Gabby recommended their Kashmiri Lamb Rogan Josh for $19.99, which I enjoyed with medium spice. I enjoyed my garlic naan for $2.99. I also enjoyed my Sam Adams draft IPA for only $3, because it was happy hour. My total bill including taxes, but less gratuities was only $28. I also enjoyed a complimentary basic buffet breakfast at this restaurant compliments of the Holiday Inn. My server asked me if I wanted some bacon, which I responded in the affirmative. I will likely return to The Royale again if I stay again at this Holiday Inn. See my separate review for the Holiday Inn.

Heard about this place from some food pages and unfortunately my friend and I were incredibly disappointed. The prices charged for the food and portions do not really add up. The dishes lacked spices so that was a little underwhelming. Additionally, the waiter never notified us about any allergies- the sambosas had peanuts in them and that was not indicated on the menu, my friend noticed them and she told me about it. As someone who has a peanut allergy, I was incredibly uncomfortable because after we told the waiter, he laughed at it and was not at all apologetic- it was incredibly unprofessional. You can get better Indian food somewhere else with better flavor and better service.

This is my second time dining at the Royale. Interestingly the menu changed between the two visits. We started with the chicken samosas which my husband said were good but he was not accustomed to the flakey texture. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Aloo Gobi Mutter, Paneer butter masala, and garlic Naan. The establishment is decorated nicely and the service is friendly and efficient. We enjoyed all the dishes, I really loved the paneer it wad so creamy and delicious. Clearly we had left overs for the next two days which I love. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying other dishes. So far I have bee happy with everything I have order.

Randomly dropped in to this hidden gem of a place, we are very pleasantly surprised by the fullness of their spices and the quality of their fresh ingredients. The service is also very friendly, server made many recommendations to us, such as the fish appetizer, that really opened up our senses, that tamarind sauce is legit the essence which brightens up every single dish. This will be our to go place when shopping at Roosevelt field mall.

Lunch; I had the Yellow Double Tadka Dal and the garlic nan. The dal was nothing short of amazing. With the great flavor, spot-on consistency and perfectly cooked lentils, this is now my go to dish at The Royale. With no shortage of garlic and the perfect balance between crispness and chewiness, the coriander sprinkled garlic nan was excellent. My only criticism is that the rice was bland and clearly needed more seasoning. However, it wasn't so bad as to affect my 5 star impression. The service was prompt and friendly and the place is clean. The Royale has my highest recommendation for Indian in the Garden City area.

Came to Long Island to visit a relative and came here for dinner. The service was great and we were seated promptly when we checked-in. Chicken tikka masala: The dish was very good. The creamy and tangy taste of the curry balanced well with the chicken. Ordered it with onion naan - a great combo! Mango lassi: obviously I can't go to an Indian restaurant and have the staple drink. Great as always. Gulab jamun: sweet and warm. A nice way to end the meal. Overall, a nice place with great service. The servers were attentive to our needs. Will def come back here when I'm in the area.

I was staying at the Holiday Inn and was pleasantly surprised that there was an authentic restaurant connected right next to the hotel. It was very convenient for dinner after a long drive. They have happy hour from 3-7 M-F with a limited menu. Service was great and the food was good.

For the main course, we had Garlic Naan (soft and garlicky) with Baingan Bharta, which had that perfect smoky, roasted taste. Ended our meal with Gulab Jamun, soft and sweet just right. They also have a banquet hall for small events -- I once saw an Indian celebration happening there, which was a nice touch. Service was great and the food was delicious! Portions are a bit on the small side, but still filling. Okra fries were so yummy and different as an appetizer. We also had the classic chicken tikka masala (well seasoned and not too heavy), chicken malai kebab (super soft and tender!) and baigan bharta (delish!). The cherry on top was they made a small turkey and sides for anyone in the restaurant to share so we still got to have some yummy Thanksgiving food on the side of our meal (and I got my stuffing fix which was the only thing I was missing that day!).

I brought my parents here to try Indian food for the first time, and I was nervous for two reasons…read more- (1) my parents are conservative eaters and I was afraid they wouldn't like it, and (2) I myself had never eaten at this restaurant before. Either way, I was nervous they wouldn't have a good meal. But I held my breath and hoped that the reviews I'd read beforehand were accurate. For the most part, they were. The garlic naan was incredible. My parents went silent when they first tried it, then quietly maneuvered the basket toward themselves while leaving rice for the rest of us. The chana masala and chicken tikka masala were also spot on - rich, saucy, and flavorful. Our salmon tandoori announced its own arrival to our table as big chunks of delicate meat on a sizzling platter. The larger pieces weren't completely cooked through, but we just let them sit on the hot flatware for a minute or two more. Spice babies, beware. We requested 'mild' as the spice level for all our orders because medications have changed my mom's sensitivity to spice. Even then, the heat crept invisibly onto her palate. "I don't know where it's coming from," she said, fanning her mouth. Even as a spice lover, I could detect there a thrum of baseline spice in most of our meals. You might want to temper the spice the way we did - by ordering a mango lassi. I've yet to meet a mango lassi I didn't like, Punjab's included. Here, they include a drizzle of something jammy along the sides of the glass. I didn't think it necessary (the lassi by itself is already fantastic!), but great for those who like their drinks sweet and photogenic. Inside, the restaurant space feels like what I'd call 'upscale casual'. It's nice - in fact, it's a lot nicer than a lot of Indian restaurants I've been in. But it's not the kind of 'nice' that makes you feel like you can't grab a meal here in your sweatpants. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there are a good number of spots along the nearby side streets (just pay attention to street signs that designate no parking days and times).

I see where others have written that even the mild can be too spicy, but we didn't at all find that to be the case. We got garlic naan for the table (great!) and also cheese naan (I didn't like that as much, but my sister loved it). I got the lamb tikka masala and have only good things to say about it. I don't remember ever having lamb so tender. Oh and we got the mango lassi with raspberry sauce, which was unusual and tasty. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

There was absolutely nobody in the restaurant except one young lady in the front and one person in the kitchen. The young lady in front was really sweet and kind. I wanted to try something that was more authentic, so I asked her what she would eat. She recommended a specific chicken dish, and I ordered it prepared the way she would eat it, and requested very spicy. Here's what I ordered: - Chicken Karahi ($17): Recommended by the young lady named Suman! Of the two dishes I ordered, this was definitely the better dish. However, there were two issues: this dish wasn't spicy at all, even though I asked for very spicy. Also, the chicken came in big chunks, making the chicken itself very bland and not tender. Smaller pieces would have been seasoned more adequately, and this needed to be simmered for a longer time. (3/5) - Lamb Korma ($24): Not on their regular menu but they'll make it for you if asked. I've always loved this dish from other Indian restaurants, so ordered it at Luxe. Again, two issues: not spicy at all, even though I asked for very spicy, and the lamb came in huge chunks, was under seasoned, and wasn't simmered long enough; resulting in hard, huge chunks of meat. (2/5) Instead of rushing to cook these dishes, both dishes should have been simmered for a longer time. I don't mind waiting for excellent food. Rushed preparation doesn't do anyone any favors. Would I give Luxe another chance? Sure, why not. But I'll wait a little while so Luxe can overcome their growing pains; they've only been open for a few months. Good Luck and welcome to the neighborhood!

My only complaint? My stomach has a limit…read more My family and I have been coming to Diwan for years, and this is hands down our go-to spot for Indian all-you-can-eat. I used to frequent the Indian buffets in Jackson Heights, and honestly, Diwan is just as good, if not better! One thing I really appreciate is that they have their own parking lot, the dining room is spacious, and as a parent, I was thrilled to see they have baby high chairs. Those little details make a big difference. We stopped by for their weekday AYCE special at just $15 per adult, which is an incredible value! My plate always ends up looking the same because I can't resist the chicken biryani, palak paneer, and that rich, creamy butter chicken. Oh, and they mostly use chicken thighs! So tender and moist! I keep telling myself I'll try something different... then I walk back with the exact same favorites. No regrets. We also ordered the mango lassi, and it was fantastic! Just a little tip: it comes with ice by default, so if you prefer it without ice, just let them know when ordering. The food quality has been consistently excellent every time we've visited, and the service has always been warm and attentive. Another thing I enjoy is how peaceful the dining room is. It's not loud or chaotic. Everyone seems completely focused on the important business of enjoying their food. A couple of helpful tips: the buffet is dine-in only, so you can't pack up buffet food to take home. If you're ordering takeout, you'll need to order from the regular menu instead. They also offer children's pricing for the buffet, so if you're unsure about the details, just give them a quick call. If you're craving great Indian food without emptying your wallet, Diwan continues to be one of my favorite AYCE spots. Highly recommended!
