We had a great experience dining at Akbar. We came here on the Sunday for Mother's Day and were very excited to try their brunch menu. Unfortunately, when we got there we found out that it was a brunch buffet so we didn't get a chance to try the menu. It also was very busy so they had set up an overflow room that looked to be part of their banquet area. The set up was very similar to an event and didn't feel very much like a restaurant and was way too loud. Thankfully the staff were able to move us back into the restaurant area and we had a much better dining experience. Food: They had so many options on the brunch buffet, a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Some of my favorite item were the chaat station where you could make your own chaat mix. They had so many different ingredients to put into your chaat and a few different chutneys. I do think it would have been nice to have someone there who would mix all the ingredients and properly shake it up for you as it was hard to mix on the small plates. The pain puri was very disappointing, the water was way too sour and it didn't have any flavor. I could barely even tell it was pain puri flavors. They had a dosa station there - someone was making fresh masala dosas. He was also able to make you a plain dosa if you asked. For hot veggie appetizers, they had hakka noodles, chili paneer, and gobi Manchurian. The hakka noodles were excellent, I don't think I've ever had such flavorful noodles. The only downside was that they were a bit cold in the buffet tray. The chili paneer was well flavored and the gobi Manchurian was nice crunchy. They had a lot of mains on the buffet: 1 yellow dal, 2-3 curries, and 2 vegetable dishes. The mains were good. And they were amazing and made us fresh chili naan for our table at no additional cost. Service: everyone was very friendly and helpful. They checked in on us and always had a smile. Price: The buffet brunch was $40/person and given the number of items I do think it was a fair price.

I had the pleasure of dining at Akbar during their Sunday brunch on August 3rd. It was just two of us so we opted to share everything. We ordered the "everything bagel naan" with scallion cream cheese and smoked salmon, and also received pickled red onions! The dish was fantastic and everything you would want in a bagel bite without the heaviness of a bagel! We also tried the chilli cheese toast - sourdough bread with a delightful topping of melted cheese, chillies, onions and cilantro. It was delicious and paired well IMO with the Maggi ketchup! Another hit for us was the saffron-cardamom French toast sticks. I am not a sweet breakfast/brunch person but I would definitely order this again! It was light and fluffy and the cardamom was just the right amount! I would recommend a cup of masala chai to go along with the French toast! We were very happy with the service and were even given an order of the Dubai chocolate naan on the house (thank you!). It was delicious! A bit of sweet and savory all in one. A definite favorite for my kids when I brought home the leftovers! We order often from Akbar for dinner as they are IMO a staple in the area for quality and flavor when it comes to Indian cuisine . The Indian-American fusion brunch options were a refreshing treat from the normal brunch classics you would find elsewhere. I would return and bring friends!

With great ambiance, amazing decor and delicious food, this restaurant is an outstanding find in Long Island. Service from the moment you sit down is impeccable. Food is stellar and the restaurant owner stops by the check in on your experience multiple times. This restaurant is one of the few that really cares about the dining experience and from first bite everything is heavenly. We had the goat golen rosh, chicken tikka, palak paneer, chicken vindaloo, chicken lollipops and lamb chops. We also had the cauliflower Manchurian, cauliflower soup as well as the garlic naan and pilaf rice. I've never been more satisfied with a meal. Every bite was amazing and service was fantastic. What a great time, I can't wait to come back for more!! This place is a diamond find! We also had a few specialty drinks and they were all very well made and not cheap with the alcohol. It was an amazing night!

I went to Akbar with my bestie for Long Island Restaurant Week. We chose this restaurant because right now I am eating as a vegan. They had really good choices. I wasn't disappointed. We started with the cauliflower soup and it was really good. The flavor was delicious and it wasn't spicy. Then I had the mixed Pakora which was fried vegetables and that was really good. My bestie had the chicken lollipop and she enjoyed them. For my main course I had the Tadka Dal which was lentils in a sauce with really delicious spices. It was a little too spicy for me but I am not a spicy eater to begin with. It was still really good. The rice was delicious too. Then for the dessert I had the kulfi which was vegan ice cream. I enjoyed it. The service was good. I loved the ambiance. I will definitely go back.

Definitely one of the best in Long Island. Quality Indian food with authentic taste not modernized or fusion. Must try the Lamb Chops and Tikkas . Also great for large party , no reservation needed.

Excellent service, our server let us try the dessert before getting them (we got both) the appetizers are tasty and savory, the main course was even more impressive, and the interior is chic and not stuffy. I felt the chai could've been a little stronger but all in all a really lovely delicious experience.

I've been here a couple of times from when I wrote my review. First I came here with a large group to celebrate a birthday. I had a chance to try many dishes. The lamb chops were amazing. I then came here last week. Thinking that I really liked the lamb chops the last time, I decided to order that again. Also had an order of the lollipop chicken. Sad to say that neither was anything like the previous time. The lamb chops were burnt (I wanted to post a pic of the burnt bones after I finished eating but thought it would be gross) and the chicken was bland. The lamb chops were definitely not worth $40. Service was actually very good and the restaurant looks really nice so thats why I'm giving it 3 stars.

Been meaning to try Akbar for awhile and finally got the chance. Inside is a little chaotic since it can get pretty busy but the staff does a great job with handling all of the requests. Went with the chili fried shrimp for my appetizer which was amazing. I could eat 30 of these. Can't go to an Indian restaurant for the 1st time without ordering the Chicken Tikka Masala & some sort of Biryani so I went with lamb and a Kingfisher to wash it all down. Everything was amazing, I'll definitely be back to try the lamb chops next time!

The food was very good and the staff is so sweet and attentive. Every person who walked by checked on us and made little jokes. The chicken tikka masala was delicious. I will definitely return. The location was a little tucked away so I was surprised that I actually pass it often on my way to target ! I would have ordered from work since I'm in garden city. I will definitely suggest this place to everyone. The restaurant is more of a hall than a trendy place. But their service makes up for any IG pictures you were looking to take. There's no grass wall or neon lights however the overhead lights help to take amazing selfies so the visit will be photographable.

One of the reasons I chose this place. The food is delicious and they give you ample food. You won't leave hungry and will have enough for leftovers. We ordered the wings, butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, shrimp vindaloo, Rogan Josh, and shrimp biryani. The wings could use more seasoning/salt but otherwise everything else was great. The biryani is delicious and had a good amount of large shrimp. If you order it spicy, you won't be disappointed. Goes well with the vindaloo. The Rogan Josh, I ordered it medium spicy and it was the spicy level was perfect and not overpowerful. The naan were really good as well. We ordered the garlic and rosemary garlic one. They only serve beer and wine for alcoholic drinks. The prices are average. I definitely will be coming back to try more dishes. My niece really enjoyed her first experience trying Indian food. Either way, I was nervous they wouldn't have a good meal. But I held my breath and hoped that the reviews I'd read beforehand were accurate. For the most part, they were. The garlic naan was incredible. My parents went silent when they first tried it, then quietly maneuvered the basket toward themselves while leaving rice for the rest of us. The chana masala and chicken tikka masala were also spot on - rich, saucy, and flavorful. Our salmon tandoori announced its own arrival to our table as big chunks of delicate meat on a sizzling platter. The larger pieces weren't completely cooked through, but we just let them sit on the hot flatware for a minute or two more. Spice babies, beware. We requested 'mild' as the spice level for all our orders because medications have changed my mom's sensitivity to spice. Even then, the heat crept invisibly onto her palate. "I don't know where it's coming from," she said, fanning her mouth. Even as a spice lover, I could detect there a thrum of baseline spice in most of our meals. You might want to temper the spice the way we did - by ordering a mango lassi. I've yet to meet a mango lassi I didn't like, Punjab's included. Here, they include a drizzle of something jammy along the sides of the glass. I didn't think it necessary (the lassi by itself is already fantastic!), but great for those who like their drinks sweet and photogenic. Inside, the restaurant space feels like what I'd call 'upscale casual'. It's nice - in fact, it's a lot nicer than a lot of Indian restaurants I've been in. But it's not the kind of 'nice' that makes you feel like you can't grab a meal here in your sweatpants. There's no dedicated parking lot, but there are a good number of spots along the nearby side streets (just pay attention to street signs that designate no parking days and times).

I see where others have written that even the mild can be too spicy, but we didn't at all find that to be the case. I don't remember ever having lamb so tender. Oh and we got the mango lassi with raspberry sauce, which was unusual and tasty. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes.

My only complaint? My stomach has a limit…read more My family and I have been coming to Diwan for years, and this is hands down our go-to spot for Indian all-you-can-eat. I used to frequent the Indian buffets in Jackson Heights, and honestly, Diwan is just as good, if not better! One thing I really appreciate is that they have their own parking lot, the dining room is spacious, and as a parent, I was thrilled to see they have baby high chairs. Those little details make a big difference. We stopped by for their weekday AYCE special at just $15 per adult, which is an incredible value! My plate always ends up looking the same because I can't resist the chicken biryani, palak paneer, and that rich, creamy butter chicken. Oh, and they mostly use chicken thighs! So tender and moist! I keep telling myself I'll try something different... then I walk back with the exact same favorites. No regrets. We also ordered the mango lassi, and it was fantastic! Just a little tip: it comes with ice by default, so if you prefer it without ice, just let them know when ordering. The food quality has been consistently excellent every time we've visited, and the service has always been warm and attentive. Another thing I enjoy is how peaceful the dining room is. It's not loud or chaotic. Everyone seems completely focused on the important business of enjoying their food. A couple of helpful tips: the buffet is dine-in only, so you can't pack up buffet food to take home. If you're ordering takeout, you'll need to order from the regular menu instead. They also offer children's pricing for the buffet, so if you're unsure about the details, just give them a quick call. If you're craving great Indian food without emptying your wallet, Diwan continues to be one of my favorite AYCE spots. Highly recommended!

We had to park across the street and walk over to the restaurant. Having a dedicated parking area or establishing a better parking arrangement with the landlord would make the experience much more convenient for customers and could potentially encourage more people to visit. Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment. The chicken in several of our dishes was noticeably overcooked, dry, and tough. The Butter Chicken, in particular, had very dry and overcooked chicken. The Drums of Heaven, which I remember being fresh, flavorful, and nicely glazed, were this time overly fried, dry, and lacking flavor. The cauliflower used to be crispy and well glazed, but on this visit it was mushy and unappetizing. We asked our server if they had a new chef, he said same chief for 15 years and the new owners are back. Well have new owners tasted the food? There's no way the Chef was back. Perhaps that was a lie. Overall, the food did not taste as fresh or well-prepared as I remembered. It also felt as though the restaurant has made several changes that have taken away from the overall dining experience. They previously offered a complimentary appetizer, whereas now everything is à la carte. Even the napkins felt unnecessarily limited--we were initially given only one and had to ask for additional napkins. The restaurant also used to have tablecloths with glass over the table, which gave the dining area a more polished, welcoming, and comfortable appearance. The bathroom was acceptable, but it could have been cleaner and better maintained. I'm sharing this feedback because I have visited this restaurant before and remember having a much better experience. The food, presentation, and overall atmosphere used to feel more inviting and higher quality. Unfortunately, this visit left me feeling that the overall quality has declined and that cost-cutting measures may be affecting the customer experience. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback constructively, because I would genuinely like to see the quality return to what it used to be. As things currently stand, however, I would reconsider returning.

On a positive note, customer service and hospitality was very warm and friendly. The restaurant was decorated very nicely and was very inviting. Parking is available in the shared lot in front of the restaurant but the spots are limited. Mango does have a large menu with a nice variety of dishes. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and willing to offer recommendations when needed. The best part is that the menu has very detailed descriptions of each item so even if you're not super familiar with this cuisine, you'll know how to order. My husband and I started with samosas which were the best I've ever had! If you're a fan, please go and try this and let me know if I'm being hyperbolic, but they were insanely good! I had the Aloo Gobi Masala which was out of this world. The flavors were well balanced and tasty. My husband had the veg biryani. The portions were plenty and the ingredients super fresh! We're so excited to have found a great purely vegetarian Indian restaurant so close to home. We will absolutely be back!

Would recommend and definitely plan to return.

I was so happy to hear that they opened another restaurant in Glen Cove! Plenty of street parking is available, and they even have a shared parking lot in back of the restaurant! I parked in the back, and entered the restaurant via the backdoor! Note that there are stairs at the back entrance, so if you can't do stairs, it's best to park in front of the restaurant. This Glen Cove locations is lovely; beautiful murals and great vibes. I was shocked and sad to see it so empty on a Saturday evening! I hope more people give this place a chance because the food and service is great! This was our Shared Menu (plenty for 2ppl, and we had leftovers): -- Water Buffalo Momos w.Chili Sauce (8pcs/$18): the Momos were tasty; the meat was very lean. I would skip the Chili sauce next time. I didn't like the sweet and sour taste of the sauce, so next time I'd like to try the steamed Momos with Johl sauce instead. -- Choila Roti "Not a Taco" with Jackfruit (2pcs/$12): Not a Taco but similar to a taco. This was delicious and I'd get this again. We choice the Jackfruit version but they also have a chicken version. -- Masala Wings (Sauteed wet version) (4pcs/$11): I remember really liking the wings when I was at the Ridgewood location but couldn't recall which wings we had. On this visit, we had the wet version which was good but I realized that I like their dry version better. -- Grilled Lamb Chops w.Timur Sauce, Veggies & white rice (2pcs/$25): Surprisingly, this was my least fave dish of the night. I normally love lamb chops but these chops didn't really have a nice seared taste to them. The texture was a little off for me. Also, it was very boney with not much meat. I would try another entree next time. All in all, a good meal! I found the large selection of appetizers more interesting than the entrees, and would have been happy just sharing a bunch of appetizers and small plates. Customer service was welcoming and friendly! It was a pleasure to chat with the owner. Nice addition to the neighborhood!

There…read morearen't many Indian restaurants in this area, and I was looking forward to visiting Luxe. I ordered takeout on a random weekday afternoon. There was absolutely nobody in the restaurant except one young lady in the front and one person in the kitchen. The young lady in front was really sweet and kind. I wanted to try something that was more authentic, so I asked her what she would eat. She recommended a specific chicken dish, and I ordered it prepared the way she would eat it, and requested very spicy. Here's what I ordered: - Chicken Karahi ($17): Recommended by the young lady named Suman! Of the two dishes I ordered, this was definitely the better dish. However, there were two issues: this dish wasn't spicy at all, even though I asked for very spicy. Also, the chicken came in big chunks, making the chicken itself very bland and not tender. Smaller pieces would have been seasoned more adequately, and this needed to be simmered for a longer time. (3/5) - Lamb Korma ($24): Not on their regular menu but they'll make it for you if asked. I've always loved this dish from other Indian restaurants, so ordered it at Luxe. Again, two issues: not spicy at all, even though I asked for very spicy, and the lamb came in huge chunks, was under seasoned, and wasn't simmered long enough; resulting in hard, huge chunks of meat. (2/5) Instead of rushing to cook these dishes, both dishes should have been simmered for a longer time. I don't mind waiting for excellent food. Rushed preparation doesn't do anyone any favors. Would I give Luxe another chance? Sure, why not. But I'll wait a little while so Luxe can overcome their growing pains; they've only been open for a few months. Good Luck and welcome to the neighborhood!
