    Masa Wings Sauteed
    Mike S.

On this past sunny Saturday we packed the "kids" in the car and made our what to Glen Cove to enjoy some time While in Kathmandu. A few of us arrived early so while we were waiting for the others we got a chance to chat with one of the owners. We discussed opening of the first (thee first?) Nepalese restaurants on Long Island after a continuing successful run in Ridgewood since 2017. Things are working out well - there is consideration for another location in Huntington. Hicksville was also considered but the abundance of Indian food ultimately had the owners decide the similarities between cuisines might potentially cause confusion. I believe (as I am sure the owners do as well) opening in towns that never had anything close to this type of food is the way to go. Ultimately, as the owner said, it is really about the food so with that we set out on deciding on dishes to share. All of us ordered the chiya, a delicious spiced milky tea we all enjoyed. Here's what we ordered: Garlic Naan with Hummus: I was a bit surprised to see hummus on the menu, but the naan was good as expected. Kathmandu Poppers: I cut this up into pieces so it was easier to share (I suggest asking for a sharp knife to make it a little easier) - the flavor was good. The color of chickpea coating has us suspect turmeric in the mix. We enjoyed these long green peppers. Perhaps instead of spicy mayo they can include a sauce that the owner brought out for us to try - it went so much better with the peppers (and everything we put it on!). Masala Wings Sauteed: We also ordered the dry, but I didnt try that. The chicken was a little overcooked (something I observed in all the meat dishes, besides momos, unfortunately) but the sweet spicy sauce was great. I think most enjoyed this over the dry style wings. Water Buffalo Momos with Jhol and Chicken Momos with Chili: I enjoy the water buffalo momos the best, but the Jhol could have used more spices and some citrus to make it pop - it tasted pretty flat mainly of sesame. Surprisingly I enjoyed the chili sauce more. Goat Sekuwa: Overcooked for my taste. Portion on the small side and meat was a little tough, but maybe to be expected considering it is goat, a meat I find works better using a slow cooked method. I enjoyed the dipping sauce with this. Lamb Chops: Cooked very well but this meat was the most tender. I loved the bed of vegetables that picked up fat or maybe had butter as well. Mashed potatoes came as a side with this which was another surprise to see. I truly enjoyed being here with the laid back meal we enjoyed. We were welcomed to linger. The staff was super attentive and friendly. I personally would like to see WIK focus, prepare and serve dishes most authentic to their culture and let the people come to them instead of making adjustments catering to non-Nepalese tastes (which was minimal from my observations). They are closing in on a decade of success so obviously they know more about what works best. Cash is king here, we enjoyed a 10% discount for cash (I noticed an ATM on premise as well)

The service was friendly but a tad slower than expected on a slow night. The food was delicious, interesting flavor. The only thing I would not order again was the roti "not tacos". I didn't enjoy the sauce seemed out of place and the chicken's flavor was a little bland in my opinion. The rest of the food was wonderful. I loved the authenticity of the menu. Even the drinks they offer are from Nepal. The restaurant is casual and clean. They have a small bar with a few TVs. It seems like a great place to grab a drink and some bites to eat after work or with friends. I look forward to coming back.

Absolutely wonderful dinner! From the incredibly friendly staff to the delicious food, this is 5 stars all the way! Had a great beer from Nepal, some wonderful appetizers including Naan, chicken wings and the fried stuffed peppers . We also had two different types of Momos (dumplings) which were fantastic. On to our next course which was a noodle dish with chicken and finally a pork rib dish! All incredibly tasty with wonderful Nepali spices. In the midst of dinner, we received a call from our son that he ELOPED that afternoon!! The owners treated us to a delicious dessert that is traditionally served at Hindu weddings which was so nice of them!! We also treated to a round of shots of a special rum from Nepal! To the team at WinK, Thank you for a wonderful dinner to celebrate this occasion!

    Beautiful decor

Beautiful, clean restaurant! Lovely ambiance, awesome atmosphere and service! Food was OUTSTANDING! Large portions, fast, friendly service! Can't wait to go again!

Burnt not just two burnt pieces but many.

Food 3. Value: 2.5/5. Green stuffed pepper: 3.5/5. The only unique one among my orders today. It is fairly spicy green long pepper stuffed with mashed potato with thick layer of flour deep fried. It is the similar concept as Japanese tempura but with much thicker coating. The heat gradually builds up. Chicken: 3/5 Average with some parts so over cooked. Very very dry! Some parts are totally burnt. Had to cut out or trash all black layer. Goat: 3/5. Much more flavorful than the chicken. No goat smell. However very very dry! Cheese naan: 3/5. Too oily to my liking. Nice puffiness. Fish: 1/5. The biggest disappointment of the day. So dry, greasy and almost as BIG as your fingers. Too greedy:(. Used the cheapest whiting. Skip! Wings: 4/5 for both masala and fried ones. Everything in my order is extremely SALTY. If you like very salty and oily food then this will be your place. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

The dumplings were tasty. Used to dumplings coming out hot, these were less so. Still tasted great though. The lamb chops were amazing! Would have rather had it come with naan instead of mashed potatoes though. The masala tea was amazing as well.

Came here with my brother never having tried Nepalese food. Staff was very nice and welcoming, making good recommendations. Nice decor and paintings. Food was amazing!! Had the Choila Roti Chicken/Jack Fruit, the Malekhu Macha, water Buffalo Momo Jhul, and the Lamb Chops. Lived everything!! The Momos were our favorite. So definately be coming back to try the other items on the menu. Discount if you pay by cash.

I stumbled into While in Kathmandu just 10 minutes before closing, fully expecting to be turned away--but to my delight, the staff welcomed us with warm smiles and seated us right away. From the very first bite, I was blown away by the exquisite blend of spices; it's clear they've mastered the art of Nepalese fusion. Having never tried Nepalese cuisine before, each dish felt like a discovery--vibrant, layered, and perfectly balanced. The cheese naan was pillowy soft, oozing with just the right amount of melted cheese, while their take on chow mein boasted fresh noodles tossed in a fragrant, subtly spicy sauce that left me craving more. Every mouthful was a revelation, and I can't wait to return for another round. What's even better is the price point: you get a top-tier experience without the sticker shock. Compared to Tava, which I adored but found too pricey for weekly visits, While in Kathmandu strikes the perfect balance between affordability and quality. If you're looking to expand your palate and enjoy a meal that's both comforting and adventurous, this place is an absolute must-try. I'll be back as soon as I can!

I had never had Nepalese food before. Everything we had was delicious from the cheese nanaan to the water buffalo momo johl to the goat sekuwa. Very flavorful. The staff were extremely friendly as well. Great service. Will definitely be back!

Sometimes when you are in a town for one reason or another, you look on yelp to see what's around and hope to be pleasantly surprised. In this case, I am happy to report that Glen Cove has you covered with this newly opened Himalayan gem. Menu says soft opening with full menu soon, but my fam really enjoyed the chicken rodi, cheese naan, water buffalo dumplings, and sekuwa (skewers). It's different food, which is what we need, so please stop by and keep this place around

Nice pop art on the walls
    Paul H.

I visited Monday (9/16/24) for a late lunch and was privileged to be their very first customer during this soft opening. The place is very warm and inviting and has nice pop art murals on the walls. I had the Chicken Sekuwa. Sekuwa is described on their menu as Nepali style char grilled BBQ. In speaking with them I found that 2 brothers are owners of the restaurant. One brother cooks and the other one works the front of the restaurant. They previously owned a Nepali cuisine restaurant in Ridgewood, Queens. Other customers followed and were seated. This new restaurant is located in the previous Andros Grill (Greek & Italian fare) that had been there for about 30 years and more recently (three years and short lived) TAVA Indian Cuisine. I will return to While in Kathmandu and encourage others to try it.

The shishito peppers were blistered just right with great flavor and a little kick. Simple, but done well. The smash burger was the standout. Cooked perfectly with a great sear, juicy inside, and topped with melty cheese and pickles that balanced everything. Add the truffle fries and it was game over. Crispy, flavorful, and generously seasoned. The Greek salad was fresh and bright, with good quality feta and olives. A solid, refreshing balance to the heavier dishes. Service was exceptional. The free bread is good and they did give us more when we asked for it. It also came with some olives which my husband loved. The corn muffins were also great. The mojito was only mediocre and the Guinness ok. The filet mignon and branzino and accompaniments were very good quality, with the steak and fish perfectly cooked as we ordered them. My wife had been to Gallagher's Pub in Sea Cliff the previous night with her girlfriends and thought they had great food. We walked in to a quaint Irish pub and were greeted by Marcus. He smiled and remembered my wife from the night before. We sat down and viewed the menu. Nice selection of food and drinks. We ordered some drinks. My wife had a soda and I had Smithwick beer. A good Irish ale. We decided on the French onion soup. It was served hot and was delicious! We ate and talked and some of our friends came in and visited with them. Good times. My wife was full after the soup , so she ordered some French fries. I ordered a buffalo chicken burger with onion rings. I thought I try something different the chicken burger was great and the onion rings were perfect. We enjoy our meal and visiting with our friends. Marcus gave us a tray for our leftover with a note on the cover. See the photos. It seems Marcus adds a special note to his customers. This was a nice and unexpected surprise. We enjoyed our time at Gallagher's. The wait service was excellent, the food was great and the atmosphere was friendly. I strongly recommend Gallagher's Pub. If you're in Sea Cliff on the north shore of Long Island stop by Gallagher's for a drink and some great food. Travel safe and keep healthy. All the best to you all.
