I finally checked out RTG after passing it countless times. I was expecting a dive bar, but it wasn't my definition of a dive bar. The place is large, with nicely spaced tables and chairs, some high tops. There are numerous tvs and a substantial bar. They even have a nice-sized party room with doors that close tightly enough to block out sound. Some community organizations have meetings there. The server was friendly and attentive. She told me the initials in the name stand for Redeye Tavern and Grill. The menu is extensive with everything from wings, burgers, sandwiches, and salads to weekend brunch and soup. I decided to have a BLT with a side salad. Big Bro had a Cali chicken sandwich that had grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayo with fries. He said it was just okay, but would have liked it better with more avocado. The fries were standard crinkle cut. My BLT was good because it had just the right amount of bacon AND it was crispy bacon. The salad was standard iceberg with crunchy croutons and flavorful ranch dressing. There's a fair-sized beer list, including some rotating seasonal brews. We both had the Kinkaider Snow Beast Winter Ale, which I loved. Big Bro wasn't a fan, but he typically likes brown ale like Samuel Smith. We really enjoyed the music being played today-- felt a bit like a time machine but in a good way. Wins in the flavor department for me today. read more

I knew RTG as the Red Eye from many years ago. The atmosphere has changed since I was there back then. The ambiance is brighter, food is better, service is better, and the overall atmosphere seems more positive. It's a nice little bar to visit. read more

The tater tots were nice and crunchy and the pretzels were pretty good but the dipping cheese was just okay. The churros would have probably been better with chocolate instead of caramel. It's a decent sports bar that's medium sized. I enjoyed the food but wasn't blown away. The service was okay. Our waiter seemed like he didn't want to be there, but overall did his job well, just not overly nice. read more

I've stopped into the Redeye many times over the years for a drink or two. Went with my family to grab some dinner recently on a Tuesday night. Have to say the service was spot on! The menu seems to be fairly new and offered a good variety. I ordered the Philly steak sandwich which was pretty good! We shared an order of the cheese bread which resembled more of a pizza, and it was quite tasty! Tots are crunchy and hot! My sister ordered a BLT and was told it was very good. Lots of crunchy bacon! Too bad it wasn't served with crunchy iceberg lettuce! (why doesn't anyone do this?) All in all was definitely a good choice for a laid back dinner! read more

For a Keno bar this place is great. Food is so-so, service is great, place is so clean I can still smell the bleach they cleaned with. Sort of a good thing, but also kind of a turnoff. The music is awesome not too white, not too black, not too country and not too rap, it's in a great middle place where everyone can enjoy it. There's a pool table, dart board and most importantly keno. The crowd is mixed and for a Friday afternoon there's a good number of people here, but not crowded. I would definitely come here again if I was hanging with someone who loves keno. But the food would not lure me back, sorry. The drinks are decently strong and the quantity of food we got was more than sufficient. We got a combo basket for under $13 and we couldn't finish it so it was worth it. Gastro Pub this place is not, but it's a great place to hang out and play keno and shoot pool. read more

This is your classic American bar. It's the type of place you'd take a foreigner for an authentic experience. It's not trendy. It's not chic. Yet it's not a dive or dirty. It is, however, located in a strip mall in a part of town that used to be the suburbs. It is now in the middle of any anywhere-USA. The Redeye must have some loyal customers, as many neighboring businesses (save Canfields) have come and gone, yet this place remains. It's dark inside. Spacious. I stopped by after the lunch hour for a bite to eat. There were a couple of old day-drinking regulars downing pitches solo. And playing keno. That's perfect. The lunch specials were a chili bread bowl and a prime rib sandwich. I opted for the latter. It was a grizzly piece of meat served on a crisped Rotella's hoagie bun. Dip in the the au jus for best results. All the TVs were on one of the ESPNs. Conversations were about pick-up football. The bartender was great. He knew how to weave in and out of a conversation with the regulars to take care of the rest of the patrons. The beer list is small. Bud, Bud Light and Miller Lite. For crafts you've got Boulevard Wheat, Goose Island IPA and Fat Tire. If one of those don't fit your fancy, then you've walked into the wrong place. If those brews work, order up a pint and some hot wings or a burger and enjoy your stay. read more

You know. I kind of like this place. We came for taco Tuesday randomly. It was a laid back, cool atmosphere. Bar with lots of games--darts, pool, and skeet ball. They have a patio and lots of tvs. I bet this place would be awesome for a busker game. The cheese curds are standard but hot and gooey. Good. The tea is good--which is important to me. Been an on and off customer for a few months now, when i first started coming here it was great! Always greeted with smiles and hello's and usually the same people working! But the staff has some new members and with that, the staff has been less attentive. My drink will sit empty for some time (up to 4-5 minutes) and welcomes seem less enthusiastic. A couple of friends and i stopped in to grab a quick bite and a couple drinks, place was pretty slow and oddly quiet. The staff was nice but a pretty relaxed group, it was hard to tell who our server really was or at least who was responsible for our table. My friend had requested a t.v. be changed and he asked for menus but they forgot about us for a few minutes before bringing the menus and drinks. The t.v. never ended up getting changed. Redeye wasn't necessarily an all bad experience but it most certainly wasn't all good. Our waitress was nice but i'm 98% positive she brought me the wrong beer as i've ordered the same thing before. Not a big deal, the beer i got was fine. The real issue i had was when i noticed some food baskets up by the kitchen and for several minutes they sat there. Finally the waitress brought them over to our table. I had no idea it was our food sitting there. needless to say it could have been warmer. This review is hard for me because I've had times there when It's dead and the service is good and so is the food. Then i'm okay definitely going back and within several weeks i do and my experience will be the opposite in terms of service and that is very irritating. They do great one time and get my hopes up and then mess my drink order up or forget about me in a booth for 25 minutes the next time. It really does depend on who's working I've noticed but i feel like the people i use to see all the time, i don't see anymore. Met up with some friends after work on a Monday night. The happy hour special was $5 nachos, $5 wings and a slightly lower price on beer. They had a sign up with the deals offered the rest of the week (BOGO burgers on Tuesday or Wednesday nights). I agree with Fudge F, the place is dark and the prices are OK ($3.25 for a gin and tonic, $2.25 for draft Miller Lite). The place was pretty empty on this particular evening, so service was good. Most of the other patrons seemed like regulars with sharing of conversation across the bar. We also ordered a basket of tater tots. I mean, who doesn't love those fried, fatty pillows of processed potato? We shared the nachos which were standard bar nachos (with all of the toppings clumped on top and nekkid chips underneath). I won't be a regular here, but if you're hankerin' bar food, cocktails and a patio (yup, covered patio out back) then the centrally located Red Eye is a decent choice. read more

So a coworker and i came in on our lunch break and sat in a booth which were actually pretty nice. Although we sat in them for a good 3-4 minutes with no greeting and no server in site. when we got waters and asked for menus they brought them immediately and she said she would be right back. she literally did not show to take our order for another 5 minutes.. And when my food arrived it came out wrong. I had asked for no onions in my wrap, my side was to be tater tots. I got onions in my wrap and fries as my side. I have been going to Redeye with friends for almost a decade. It's a small bar, but the food is good and it has a good atmosphere. But lately it's been really bad. Every time we go in they tell us they're understaffed, but we're not in a hurry so it doesn't matter. It seems like they would have fixed that issue at some point. I'm giving three stars only because I used to love the place and they have great tacos. I knocked off two because it seems to be getting worse every week. read more

We have been stopping in to this bar almost weekly for about 6 months now and we have tolerated the "slow service" because the location is close to home and the couple of bartenders that have served us seem to be pretty nice guys. When we are there it never seems to be too busy, but the service is lacking and if you want to play keno you better be prepared to miss a game or two while waiting for someone to write your ticket. This Saturday we stopped in.... yes it was during the NE game, but they had a keno writer. I was happy about that -- until .... first time i played my ticket, I had to remind the writer to give me my ticket. Second time around, I had to tell him how to give me my change and after 1 game I realized that he had not given me my ticket again. I went over to the keno area and told him that he didn't give it to me and of course, he argued that he had and that it was my responsibility (which I know) I was sitting 3 chairs from where the ticket was written so I had not lost it on my way back to my seat like he suggested. I was very upset and expressed it in some not no polite words. I told him maybe he needed to take some more keg (beer) shots as I had sat there and watched him drink about 15 during the time that our first 5 games had played. The bartender (very nice guy) came over ...questioned my numbers and said he would have a look around the bar for my ticket .... and VOILA !!! MY TICKET SHOWED UP BEHIND THE BAR just waiting for all the games to be called. Sketchy was the first thing that popped into my head. And as it turned out the "keno writer" also happened to be the bar owner. Wonder how many tickets this douche has cashed in because he don't hand them back to the customers then claims it is their problem. He asked me not to return -- I will happily oblige by his request and never step foot in his establishment again and I will make sure to share this magical story of this amazing service and his bar. read more

The owner Todd is a drunk. All he does is sit at the bar all day and drink for free. The kitchen is disgusting with roaches. Trust me I worked there for awhile trying to get it clean and bug free. But it didn't work because the owner just doesn't care. Matt and Dominique are very awesome bartenders, but the rest of the staff is not inviting. They don't pay attention to anyone really. It's good little dive bar if you just going to go have a couple drinks. But honestly I don't recomend eating their food. read more

My friend Mary Iannelli was in town after winning an Emmy for wardrobe/costume design on General Hospital. I wanted to throw her an Emmy party and first thought was the Red Eye! Great decision the staff as always was wonderful, fun, and helpful. Helped me set up, ideas for decoration, had fun posing with the guest of honor and her Emmy! Mary, her family, and all the guests had a fabulous time and the food was wonderful! If or should I say when she wins again next year the party will be at the Red Eye for her and she can bring both Emmys with her next year! Great time, great place, great staff! Thanks!!
