My wife and I love this place a lot. It's a great place to get a cocktail before you have to go to a show. They also have some small bites like a pretzel that was like holy crap. That was so good. The drinks were absolutely excellent. Definitely a lot of rum-based drinks. You should check them out. Made a lot of cool, interesting people there and right in the heart of the Broadway Times Square area, so definitely good spot before show. Check them out.

Not much beats an old school Manhattan cocktail in an old school Manhattan jazz and piano bar before a Broadway show. This spot is perfect for it. Dark lighting, live music, and bartenders who know exactly what they're doing. All inside the classic 1920s Hotel Edison, right in the heart of the Theater District. The Rum House has a great New York vibe. Many people were grabbing a cocktail before heading to a show, while others were settled in enjoying the live jazz and piano. The drinks are made with care, the service is excellent, and the music sets the perfect mood. A great spot steps from Broadway. If you want that classic New York cocktail experience, this is the place.

Met a friend for cocktails. Although it was Happy Hour we chose off the main menu. We were happy to see the selection of Bacardi products. I got a Grey Goose dirty martini with blue cheese stuffed olives and she got a daiquiri with an aged Bacardi rum. After a bit we got some snacks including olives and popcorn. The place had a nice vibe to it and I liked the low lighting. Music was perfect volume. There was also live music later in the evening (9:30pm?) but we were not staying that long. Place was pretty full and there were no places to sit at the bar. Tables were comfortable and not too close together. Our server was busy yet attentive! Would go back!!

Back again and this is still our favorite bar we've ever been to! The bartenders are so nice and knowledgeable and we have an amazing time when we come here. This time didn't disappoint! The drink options are endless and they'll help recommend options if you aren't sure which is super helpful. I also had their version of an espresso martini drink that was top tier.

My daughter and I dropped in for a couple of digestif drinks after dinner and had a nice time. It was a little late so they weren't crowded. It was comfortable - perhaps a little dark, but it wasn't smoky or hot. The wait staff were friendly. The drinks were tasty and reasonably priced. She had a classic daiquiri and I had a bourbon Manhattan (photos). There was a band playing live, but they were nearing the end of their set and there wasn't a cover charge. I can't say this is a place I would want to hang around for hours, but for a "drop in, have a drink, and move on" kind of bar it was juuust right. Recommended. I would definitely go back.

I stopped by the Rum House with my mom last weekend for a drink before a show. We grabbed two stools at the bar - they were quite busy on a Saturday night around 7 (before the 8 o'clock shows). The service was great - friendly, helpful, fast. And the cocktail menu was great. They're obviously known for their rum cocktails, but I tried one of their exclusive cocktails that doesn't include rum - the Mango Cart Mezcalarita (Banhez Mezcal, Giffard Mango Liqueur, Ancho Reyes Verde Chile Liqueur, Pilla Select Liqueur, Lime Juice, Pineapple Juice, Two James Dr Bird Pineapple Ru). It was delicious. Great ambiance, great service, great drinks. I'll happily return for some rum cocktails next time I'm in the neighborhood for a show!

Some girl friends and I came here for some drinks before dinner. On a weeknight, it was busy but slowly died down by the time we left around 8pm. It looks like many people come by for happy hour after work nearby. Even though there were lots of reserved tables, we were able to easily grab a table for four. While many drinks are rum based, there were many other options as well. I opted for the Rum Old Fashioned with The Real McCoy ($19), which the server recommended over the other Old Fashioned. The drink is a classic --nice and strong. Overall, chill and intimate spot but nothing too special. I did appreciate that they didn't rush us when we stayed behind to chat after paying our bill.

A table for two down front with the excellent George Collotti + Friends jazz combo, a Mai Tai and a Dark & Stormy, and friendly service on a busy night was everything we needed for the perfect nightcap. Old New York vibe with perfect cocktails.

What a find. Great bartenders, an extensive selection of delicious rums, and live music later on certain nights. I sat at the bar, and the patrons there were friendly and the bartenders were extremely helpful. They can make a number of drinks, both off menu and the carefully crafted menu drinks. The atmosphere is dark with low tungsten lighting at night. A great spot. I'll note that Yelp lists as one of their most popular drinks the "Hemingway El Dorado White". That drink does not exist. If you ask for anything related to Hemingway, you will get a daiquiri. El Dorado White is one of their light rums and that alcohol can be combined with any mixers to make a delicious drink but the Hemingway El Dorado really isn't a thing.

Great piano bar, however you won't hear any keys until about 8:30p. Contrary to it's name, the bar has a great selection of spirits from beer, rum, whiskey, tequila and more. They also serve light snacks such as popcorn. Lastly, the service was very welcoming.

Ask the Community - The Rum House

    What is the dress code?

I did not see anything suggesting a dress code. My friend had on sneakers and I was dressed in jeans. There are mostly tourists and some people do dress up in period style clothing but your don't have to get dressy. It would hurt for a date night,…

    Are they cigar friendly?

No. I'm sure you can smoke outside but not inside.

    Is there a food menu?

They offer snacks like olives, peanuts, popcorn, pretzels and some pressed sandwiches. That's about it. There are other restaurants/deli's in the hotel if you are looking for bigger fare.

    Is it only 21+?

Yep. They start carding in the downstairs lobby before you even get in the elevator, then check again when you're up top.

What days of the week and what time do they have live music?

Live music is from 9:30pm to 12:30 am everyday with the exception of Monday night where the house band starts at 10pm and stays till 2am.

I liked how they organized the menu by country/geography to facilitate an understanding of the flavor profiles. I got two of the date & fig-flavored smoked whisky drinks and it was a well made, balanced, and very good. Servers seemed a bit annoyed to have to deal with us shortly before close as I think they were hoping to usher people out and close down maybe a little early. It was dark when we entered the coffee shop but an ajar door gave way to the bar. The decor is a homage to the works of Nikola Tesla, which can be seen in the subtle electric theme throughout the space and the naming of the cocktails. The space isn't too large - the bar and stools take up most of the space but they also have some booths/tables. The place looks great. The cocktail menu is very creative - I got one of their seasonal mixes that was actually two drinks in one. The main cocktail was meant to be sipped first and they provided a small glass of beer to be sipped after. The name escapes me but it was very good. Since we had cocktails at dinner, we only stayed for one round. Service was good, and overall I enjoyed my time at Patent Pending. I would definitely return to explore more of their menu.

We walked in without a reservation around 6:20 p.m., and they were able to accommodate us at a shared table until 7:15. The menu surprised me a bit. Since I associated the address with Eleven Madison Park, I wasn't expecting to see items like wings stuffed with sausage, which were done in partnership with Jungsik. We ordered those along with the mushroom burger and asked them to cut the burger in half for us. The cocktail menu was creative and a little intimidating, with unconventional ingredients like cream cheese and green curry. I went with a fruity Hendrick's-based drink, and my friend ordered the spicy green curry martini. Both were good. Mine didn't taste very strong, but it also wasn't overly sweet because there was enough bitterness to balance it out. The green curry martini was more adventurous but still worked. Service was mixed. There was a woman standing near us, so we tried ordering food with her, but she seemed hesitant to come over. Maybe she wasn't a server or was newer. For drinks, she brought over someone more seasoned, who quickly helped guide us based on our preferred taste profiles. Her suggestions were very good. The mushroom burger was the highlight for me. It was a little salty, but the crispy mushroom and soft bun were a great combination. I honestly wished I had more than half. The wings were okay. They were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, but coated in a Dorito-like powder that made them very messy. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd come back, especially for the mushroom burger.
