What a gem! I cannot say enough about this bar. Terrific cocktails and drinks, a chill vibe and relatively quiet on a busy street. If you're looking for something more, probably not the place for you. I also loved how you're able to bring in food since they don't have a kitchen. I have been going to bars since I turned 18. That's 50 years, and many bars. Deacon Brodie's is the best. Small, dark, with terrific, personable bartenders who know how to mix a cocktail. I love this place, even if I was only here for one beer. It's the staff that makes it and tonight, the bartender was a complete trip. Quick witted, funny and pouring a *perfect* Guinness. Inside, a cool and quiet vibe that had me feeling a bit more "pub" than "bar" because it felt like the spot you would meet up with friends and have a drink rather than a place you would go to have a drink and hang around. Just a nice spot. We had our drinks inside for a bit and then took them outside, where the street life is quite active. I love Edinburgh...like really really love that city. I've seen the last call at Deacon Brodies on the Royal Mile more times than I care to admit over the years, and it's always been worth it. Imagine my surprise when I found an outpost on 46th when there was a line to get into Becco? Oh and what's this, they always have Belhaven* on tap? Yep, I was.... and remain, on board with this find. While it is significantly smaller than its counterpart in Edinburgh, this spot still has the feel of a proper Scottish pub. Wood accents everywhere, fireplace (fake but they put candles), comfy couches, and importantly, solid bartenders. It's a shame they don't have food, as I think a scotch egg would probably do very very well considering the crowd who pops in regularly. The beer lineup is also constantly rotating, and they have a pretty decent can selection with something usually on special for a good price. You'll absolutely find a better rotation at beer culture a few blocks away, but BC is lacking that laid-back feeling that Deacon Brodie's has in the air. If you're looking to relax with a pint and your buddies, this is a great spot. I have been going to one bar or another for over 50 (!) years, but my search for the best bar has ended. Deacon Brodie's is small, dark, beautifully decorated, and employs the three best bartenders I have yet to encounter (particularly Chris). While you can't get food here, you can get expertly mixed cocktails using the finest quality garnishments and an ever changing choice of beer. Two freshly refurbished bathrooms as well. I was out and about with a few friends and we feared we were getting too close to Times Square bar territory, so we took a hard right and sought refuge at Deacon Brodie's. We immediately felt safe. This dive is spacious and quiet enough to chat at a normal volume, but still feels lively. Great music--they might have had a TouchTunes setup but I could be wrong, we didn't use it but I think I walked past one on the way out. My memory is a little hazy just like the delicious Thin Man IPA that had me feeling swoozy when I stood up after kicking my feet up on the comfy couch in the back. Super clean restrooms--clean enough to take a tipsy selfie in. I live on the Upper West Side but I adore a good dive and I would totally trek back down here just because of the chill vibes and great beer selection. read more

This was a great spot with a fantastic owner/bar tender. The drinks were priced on point as was the décor and ambiance. For my group it hit all of the right points; low key, relaxed, music, nice lighting and variety of well-made drinks. We were all over the cocktail/beer list to start, including Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Moscow Mules but hit the jackpot when we ordered a round Old Fashioned's. Adding to our fondness of this tavern was its location, it is parked within a large group of restaurants and bars near 46th and 9th. I did see within the reviews that some people consider this a dive bar and it couldn't be further from a dive bar and that is a good thing. If they don't change anything or dust for the next twenty years then it might be a dive bar then but for now its just near perfect for what it is. All in all, we did make multiple trips to this establishment during our stay in the Theater District. read more

This hole in the wall Tavern is far from any dive I've come in contact with over the years. From the outside you're a tab bit hesitant to enter, but upon entering your greeted with fresh tunes, skilled bartenders, and spirits that'll make you decision tough. We were here on a Saturday night for a birthday party and the entire time the bartenders/staff were very accommodating with our crew. We had the entire back seating area to ourselves and the drinks kept flowing. The birthday boy was even giving plenty of free shots! This was extremely kind. I love this place. Haven't been since last December. But after a play on W 46th (way west), my friend and I stopped in. On a Monday at 8:45 PM it was dead. But Broadway dark on Mondays. By the time I left around 11PM, the bar was mostly full. Some NBA game on. But the back with the benches I had to myself. The prices are good and the pours generous. The bartender is a doll and the owners were there. For some reason, they had free food (mini-burgers, potato skins to die for, and some fried chicken thing I didn't try, plus SUPER fresh crudite and hummus). The selection of beer, whiskey, scotch is extensive and the prices are fair. I had a Michter's and two of that Ballast Point grapefruit IPA. I will be back. Music is nice 80s and 90s. Nothing annoying. Clean. And just really a chill place. I will be back. read more

Deacon's is quickly becoming my local bar upon the very solid recommendation of my friends/neighbors. It's completely unassuming both inside and out, and if you were walking fast to try to get somewhere I'm sure you'd pass right by it, especially given it's almost directly across the street from The Ritz. The bartenders are fun, chill, and accommodating. Go ahead.. don't be shy.. just ask if they have that song already! Otherwise, there's always the jukebox. Silly and somewhat embarrassing story: So after making my rounds for what turned out to be a marathon night, I got to Deacon's around 3am. The (guest) bartender recognizes me.. and only me and of course encourages me to console myself with a drink. =) One slow going drink and I head home. The very next night, I swing by again to close another long night and get to Deacon's around 2am--but this time with my sis and a few friends. Same bartender warmly but purposefully and loudly goes, "Heyyyy you're back and you're not alone this time!" grr.. Oh well. He speaks the truth. hehe read more
