This place was so much fun on karaoke night! One of the first places we went to sing when we moved to GA recently, & it was a 30 minute drive. Great, encouraging people...obviously no one knew us, yet when I walked on stage, people yelled my name & clapped! (What if I sucked?! Lol) Food was awesome & staff was attentive. Last night my boyfriend and I were looking for a place for a late night drink. It was 2 am when we got to the rusty barrel and there were around 10 people, not including bartenders, inside. Doors were locked and we knocked. Instead of simply waving a hand to let us know they were closed early or whatever the situation the employees just looked at us through the window and when we knocked we could hear someone say " don't open the door." Two things: 1. Change your hours online if you aren't going to be open at the times posted. 2. Teach your employees to have the decency to communicate that you closed early and no one else is being let inside instead of staring at potential clients through a window like we are fucking idiots. It would make sense to me if the spot was empty but it was not. Very bothered. read more

I got the sense they aren't familiar with or happy serving people of color in their establishment. I came in. Sat at the bar and asked for a menu. I looked at the menu for a minute and decided what I wanted. After a few minutes without having my order taken, I started to get suspicious. Then the bartender helped some new white patrons who just came in. Got them a drink and took their order. Then the bartender walked past me to ask a table filled with white patrons if they needed anything else. They politely declined and she asked them again in a much louder voice if they needed anything. They declined again. Then she cleaned off some tables, talked to some people, then walked past me again to start doing something behind the bar. I won't try that again. If you're white and you like establishments where you can eat with only other White people, this place might be great. I wouldn't know, I never got them to get me any food. read more

I have to agree with you Bob D. My husband and I visited this establishment about 9 years ago. We had just moved to the Atlanta Metro and we love Karaoke bars. My husband has an amazing voice and we always try new spots. I was a little hesitant about The Rusty Barrel but he figured we drove this far we might as well try. I sat in the corner area of the bar while he put his song in but I did not feel welcomed one bit. We sat there for a while and finally after 10-15 mins the bartender asked what I was having. Eventually, my husband got up to sing Unchained Melody and as always BROUGHT THE HOUSE DOWN! Even though a few people applauded and whistled we felt very uncomfortable and left immediately afterward. This is definitely a not a place for people of color. It is what it is, they have a right to express themselves too. To each his own! read more

I will preface by saying the other reviews did the place justice. The real issue with my visit yesterday was the staff. When I arrived, there seemed to have been a breakdowm in communicatiom between the bartender and her bar back. Other time I discerned the caused was the bar back doing her job poorly (at best). Describe havig some nasty things said about her, Felicia rebounded nice, made solid drinks and diaplayed an incredible work ethic. Kitchen staff was great. Highly recommend wings and poppers. I will be back. Just definitely was an inauspicious time to walk in. read more

This unique dive is the sister bar of the Beer Barrel down the street. However it is bigger, brighter, but the smoke is the same. The menu is limited but a quick burger or sandwich with a beer it is a great place. The ownership and staff are super friendly which is the main reason I tolerate the smoke. I don't get the good reviews. The service was ok, but the bartenders looked pissed off. Like it was a pain in the butt to be there. I can understand the limited beer and liquor options. I think if you're a regular. They take care of you. But, "outsiders" are bottom of the food chain and treated like 2nd class citizens. It definitely likes up to dive bar status. I wanted to share the horrible experience that I had at this establishment. Candice was very rude to me when I asked for a drink, I waited 30 minutes to order the drink and when I finally was able to, she was rude and carried an attitude that was not needed. When I received my drink from her, it was wrong. I was already upset with the service I was receiving and this just topped it off. There is no reason a bartender should be rude to customers. It seems the only thing this place has going for it is an A on their health score. I will not be visiting this establishment again. read more

Dive bars are great,,this one is the pits. Service is the worst. Unless you smoke a couple packs of cigarettes a day you'll need a shower before bed and to hang your clothes outside to air out. Seriously the staff is always rude and seems pissed off and unless your one of a handful of regulars forget about getting your first beer w/in a reasonable period of time,,or the 2nd or 3rd. I wish i could say it's because they don't want you driving and drinking but that's not it at all. They literally look right past you. The only thing this place has going for it is the open mic jam on thursday's that moved from Darwins a couple years ago; It seriously needs to move again somewhere soon. A group of friends and I have regularly attended on thursday for the jam,,and always left 20% + tips,,,we finally decided to call it quits after no longer being able to put up the shitty attitudes and horrible service. It starts from the top down and the lady who owns the place has apparently never been a strong advocate of customer service. Go figure.
