The "best" choice was not obvious from this research. I asked a friend who recently had kids get their drivers licenses and he recommended West Point without any reservations. I re-scoured the reviews and became convinced. The registration process was straightforward, and the office staff was always polite, efficient and professional. They are clearly used to dealing with unexpected issues because they were flexible with unplanned changes and last minute bookings. I only observed the instructors during their pre-drive briefings and post-drive debriefings. Always calm, nonjudgmental and full of useful tips. My kid told me that the instructors were always calm and did not raise their voice or panic. 100% recommend with no reservations.

First thing that went wrong was the instructor contacted me the day of our appointment which was scheduled over a week in advance, and she requested that I leave work early so the session could take place a 2 instead of the original time of 3:30. I obliged just to be nice. I drove from Stockton to Sacramento at the meeting spot. She ended my daughters lesson 30 minutes early and never took her on the freeway, I immediately called her and asked why, she claimed that there was too much traffic but she insured me that my daughter drove safely and "beautifully" . I hung up and called the office to speak with the owner who was very unprofessional by suggesting I wasn't telling the full story and said he would offer another 30 minutes as a courtesy. After speaking with him then my daughter, I learned that not only did the instructor not take me daughter on the freeway but she also took a call and discussed rushing to meet her friend for plans that they had. My daughter was ripped off from what should have been a great ending to her training program all because the instructor wanted to rush back to her personal life and I'm upset because this isn't fair.no one has called me back even tho I was promised a follow up. We found Empire instead. They have been great. Really impressed with the level of attention and detail. Pleasant to work with, both on the phone and in the car. The kids have commented on this as well, given that they know what their older sibling went through having had to listen to a chatterbox instructor - just one of several problems with the other company. I have no idea how they compare price-wise - they might be more or less expensive than whatever else you find. They did offer to us what I, as a parent, considered an outstanding opportunity: they gave my kids a couple of hours of a CHP class with an officer. It was a class the CHP offers for young drivers. It was well worth it. They were also extremely accomodating when it came to our busy schedules. And, unlike the other reviewer here, I've had excellent results with them returning my calls. The fifth session, which was supposed to be a mock driving test, was conducted by Kim and was a particularly negative experience. Kim's communication style was unprofessional and discouraging--she frequently popped and chewed gum during the lesson and delivered feedback in a harsh, condescending tone that made my child feel embarrassed and less confident. At times she contradicted the other instructor. Bottom line--My daughter came home in tears and feeling less prepared for her test than she had before the lesson. We do not recommend these instructors.
