If you want a restful night (or day) sleep, this is not the place. The hotel blares super loud DJ music at multiple locations around the hotel day and night, right outside many of the rooms, including mine. I brought a fan and a noise machine to block such sounds but the DJ speakers are just too loud. read more

Great service and well appointed rooms combined with an absolute center of town location make this place incredible. This is an off the radar hotel that should not be overlooked. Incredible vide and several unique areas of the property to explore. Several sitting areas, a small but beautiful pool deck overlooking meeting street and lots of beautiful things to explore on property and just blocks away off property. Service across the board is famous and dining options are available. They offer bicycles to explore the area. Valet parking is reasonable and people are providing a great level of service. read more

Cute little boutique hotel in the heart of Charleston! We stayed here for a wedding in town and stayed Wednesday\Friday. We were able to check in at 11:30am which was amazing! Our room was at the very end of the hall which was a bit of a walk since there were three turns but understandable. The rooms were so cute and love the little beach style. Beds were huge and comfy! All the staff we encountered were extremely nice and sweet. Everything was super clean! Would definitely love to come back and we truly didn't want to leave. read more

This boutique hotel was larger than I expected. Very cute areas that I wish I could have enjoyed more but because of the chili weather we could not. Most staff were friendly from the valet driver, to the coffee staff. Perfect location that you can walk to all areas of downtown. Front desk check in and check out could have been a lot friendlier. And the room could have been cleaned better as there was dog hair still on the hard wood floors. Several folks were checking in with dogs. Maybe most rooms need to have a "no dog occupancy rule "? There were no other room issues and once we got the xtra sweeping, all was well. Tried coffee day one and it was as wonderful, ordered the same coffee day three, different person and I had to return it. Very trendy hotel that is within walking distance to everything! That's the best I can say about it though. No one was at the front desk for check in and the staff was just unfriendly. The pool is small, the patio furniture is fading, outdated and the room could have been cleaner and more luxurious for the price. Instagram photos do not capture it correctly. An illusion. Make your hotel prettier and cleaner instead of spending money on pricey, filtered photo shoots. It was also quite noisy. A waste of money for a staycation. We loved our time at The Ryder. The welcome drink was indeed welcome after a long travel day and the kind gentleman checking us in was our first taste of southern hospitality. The vibe is boutiquey and cool. The retro decor was comfy and made me go down memory lane to childhood vacays. The pool area, little palm, is stunning! Small for sure, but fitting for the "my little secret" feel of this hotel. Great rooftop bar with corn hole and tasty signature drinks. We really enjoyed our morning coffee from their little backyard coffee shop. Latte, cappuccino, iced coffee, all the morning necessities! And there is a borrow space for all of those beachy needed things! Comfy beds, great sheets, excellent service! Will be back! Can't wait! read more

The hotel is super cute! We loved the vibe. Although our room was super noisy. We could hear the laundry being done. The dryer was loud, at first we thought it was an ice machine. Until we realized the beeping when it was done. Also, construction was being done outside of our room. The most annoying part of our stay was the coffee situation. Instagram claimed you could get lattes or coffee at the front desk. Not true. They said they were rebranding. Morning coffee was out, only decaf k cups. Cream that sat out all day. The tiniest garbage that never got changed. The staff were too busy on their phones to restock or clean. The little palm pool bar was great though. Great ambience, cocktails, and food. My mom and I stayed at the Ryder hotel in April 2024. Pros: 1. Awesome location - very walkable! 2. Great aesthetic 3. Little Palm 4. Nice lounge area to work in on the second level outside of Little Palm Cons: 1. Walls were very thin - we could hear everything 2. Very loud! 3. Not sure what the daily amenity fee actually covered? There were a few items you could check out (chairs, bags, etc...) but there was a 2 hour limit. 4. Staff were nice, but didn't go above and beyond 5. WiFi was spotty. 6. Limited pool spots. Overall, I would stay here again because the location, but it seemed like more of a trendy hotel that didn't care too much about customer service. read more

I had a quick trip to Charleston and a friend recommended I check out the Ryder hotel. Their color scheme is really cute, I'm a fan of cool colors. There was lots of construction going on when I arrived, so that was a bit of an inconvenience, but it wasn't too bad. The room was calm and cozy, with a good amount of space to walk around. There was a soft robe in the bathroom that was coordinated with the rest of the room and the bed was comfy. It was raining when I arrived so I didn't get to go to the pool but the area was nice. The staff also gave some great tips for restaurants and places to visit in the area. It's located in a pretty walkable area downtown so it's a great option if you're looking to explore. read more

The only positives are that the hotel is in a good walking area and it's pretty clean. The rooms were comfortable. But this place is WAAAY overpriced for just a basic hotel. Plus they rip you off in valet parking fees and their mandatory "amenities" fee for borrowing their yoga mats and beach chairs and all that crap, which of course we didn't use, but we still had to pay for them. And the hotel has some weird quirk where if you're on the 4th floor in the back, the main lobby elevator does NOT go directly there. So you have to go up one level, walk ALL the way to the back of the building (dragging your luggage across their thick carpeted floors that make it harder), then take another elevator up to the top. And vice versa if you are leaving the hotel. You need to take 2 elevators and walk the entire length of the damn place to get to or leave your room!! read more

It's a great location in the French Quarter, however, if you are looking for a full service hotel, look elsewhere. No breakfast served during the week, only coffee bar grab n go. No coffee in rooms-costs $4 a cup at coffee bar. Very young staff did not know the area and directed us to visitor center down the block. On a nice day, pool seating is limited, although the pool area is beautiful. The food at Little Palm was delicious-everything we ordered. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Not spending a lot of time at your hotel and don't need many amenities-this is the spot. read more

Do not stay at this hotel. My roommate and I booked a trip for a girls weekend and we were so excited to stay here based off of the aesthetically pleasing pictures online and location. Upon arrival, the "manager" Slay was extremely rude and when I told him my name to check in he said, "oh.. you weren't what I was expecting". I was discriminated against before I even saw my room. We walked up into our room and it was the most disgusting room I have ever seen at a hotel. Stains all over the walls, hair and dirt on the floor, dirty sheets, etc. I walked back down to the "manager" and he said there were no other rooms available and that he would send the housekeepers to clean. He said to go out and he'd let us know when it was clean. I asked how long it would take and he said he "didn't know because it was only his third day". I told him I did not feel comfortable staying in that room even if it got cleaned because I was so grossed out. He did not have one bit of empathy, and was rude during our entire stay. We got moved to a new room, which was just okay. All of the things that "sold" us on this hotel were a huge letdown. Nothing was what we were expecting. The coffee in the lobby was gross, the pool amenities were less than average, and the drinks at little palm were terrible. I regret even spending one dollar to stay here. read more

There was a small group of us staying at The Ryder Hotel and every element of our stay was excellent. Firstly, the location is ideal for walking to Charleston's attractions, bars and restaurants, shopping and just plain strolling the interesting streets. Next, the hotel is clean, well maintained and the staff are, without exception, friendly and efficient. The food and beverages, especially poolside, are very good and the atmosphere is fun. Lastly, the sleeping rooms are well appointed, albeit a little small. Lots of amenities and even a "garage" filled with things like bikes that guests can borrow. We enjoyed our stay here. It's an amazing location for a nightly price that's somewhat lower than some of the other nice local hotels. It offered everything we needed. Our room was clean, with a modern minimal design. We were able to charge devices easily especially with the nifty alarm clock that had a cordless charger and multiple usb charging ports (yes I'm easily impressed). They provided a comfy robe, a steamer, and a hair dryer. There was also a yoga mat provided! My only complaint is that we had to walk a long way to get to our room. Also our room view was the parking lot but we didn't mind it so much. They offered the amenities that we needed. They offer a welcome drink and espresso/coffee drinks throughout the day. As a guest, you get 24/7 access to a full gym! You have to go to the desk to ask for a pass and walk about a block away. BUT it's a full gym with all the equipment you need. The pool and Palm restaurant were a plus. The pool area was nice but it was always crowded - because I don't think it was exclusive to just guests. The bar/restaurant was just off the pool area. They offered mainly small plates and drinks but their food was delicious. Definitely a plus to have close by. read more

Stayed here for a long weekend in April when visiting for a wedding. My main motivations for picking this hotel were the location, the pool, and the general esthetic. The location IS amazing. It is walkable to so many things in the Historic district - the Historic Market, the Waterfront park, so many good food options, etc. Also, esthetic is as cute in real life as it is in the pictures. As folks mentioned in other reviews, on the weekends, it can be tricky getting near the pool. We managed to get a table for drinks and snacks, and snuck onto one of the lounges about an hour in when a couple people got up to leave. We had to keep an eye out cause many were waiting. During the week it was not as much of a problem because it's not open to the public until 4pm when the restaurant opens. As a hotel resident, you have access to the pool sun up to sundown, and you can literally camp out there. I absolutely loved starting two of my mornings lounging by the pool with a book and my headphones in, enjoying the sun. The biggest disappointment with our stay was the lack of cleanliness. We got into the room and there was garbage on the windowsill and the floor looked filthy. We managed to flag someone down and she brought a broom in to sweep the floor and rug. I tried not to look as dust flew into the air while she sweeped. The pool also was pretty gross. The top layer had a film of sunscreen waves on it, and there were always a few straws or drink umbrellas floating around. Maybe it's extra noticeable because it's a relatively small pool. The bed was comfy, wifi was not great, and while the tv was equipped with Netflix, it couldn't ever connect. There was a steamer, blowdryer, massive bathroom with lots of space for getting ready which I loved. But no fridge. Customer service was mostly very good. 99% of the staff we interacted with were attentive, helpful, and kind. But there was a 1% that seemed annoyed by our presence. It is true that you may have a bit of a hike around the hotel if you are on a certain floor and side of the building. It wasn't the end of the world for us, but I know that might be an issue for others. FYI if you pay by debit card, they place a hold on your card for an additional $150/night for incidentals and for if you spend money at Little Palm the restaurant by the pool. It's nice that you can just charge your food/drinks there to your room, but definitely wish I knew that ahead of time. Completely unrelated to the hotel, but just an FYI Ubers/Lyfts were HARD to come by, especially for going outside of the Historic District. Next time we will rent a car for sure. It's not worth the stress of going to the beach and having no idea how you will get back, trust me. read more

I would so highly recommend this hotel if you're in the Charleston area! The location is walkable to many restaurants and popular tourist sights, such as the Charleston City Market, Rainbow Row and the Pineapple Fountain. The staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful, and having a fun pool/bar is a nice way to spend a few hours on a hot summer afternoon. The hotel itself was clean with a minimalist vibe, and it really had everything we needed. It was also pet friendly, which can be hard to find in Charleston. We will definitely be back!! read more

I strongly advise against staying at the Ryder Hotel. While the place seems nice at first glance, there are several hidden fees that they conveniently fail to mention upfront. We were charged for things like a "credit" to the Little Palm restaurant(which wasn't told to us), welcome drinks (which we didn't even use), and, unbelievably, for access to the pool--only to find out the pool was closed for a private influencer event during our stay! It felt like we were paying extra for things we couldn't actually enjoy. It's frustrating and deceptive, and I would not recommend staying here unless you enjoy surprise charges for amenities you can't even use. Save your money and go somewhere more transparent and guest-focused! read more

My girlfriend and I went on a spur of the moment over night trip and stayed here. The vibe of the hotel is awesome, very relaxed. The valets were very nice, they even went to our at midnight to get our snacks we left in the car. The front desk staff was very knowledgeable, and they even give you a welcome cocktail. The rooms were cute and modern. Everything you need is in there, they even brought our luggage up for us. There is a little bar and pool, the area is super cozy. The drinks are amazing, very out of the box with weird ingredients. We both enjoyed our cocktails. Overall this is an awesome hotel; very clean, staff knows what they are doing, and they are on top of their customer service. We will be staying here on out next trip! read more

This hotel was great! We had a HUGE room, with a balcony that overlooked the pool, 2 (TWO!) bathrooms and a comfortable (NOT ROCK HARD!) bed. The desk staff was very accommodating and the restaurant was one of the best I've ever had the pleasure of sampling. The Little Palm restaurant had some of the best seafood I've ever had -- try their mussels in cilantro sauce or their Tuna in citrus sauce and then top it off with their wonderful Guava Cake Royal. AWESOME chef! Our only complaint was that the maid service didn't refresh the coffee service during our four day stay....kind of a drag really, as I LOVED their Nespresso machine and their awesome selection of teas. read more

Our room had a water leak that clearly had been there for a while, the room smelt like mold and you could hear the water dripping inside the wall. We told the front desk , they sent someone to look at it, which all they did was wipe the water up. I woke up the next morning with my eyes swollen and throat on fire- I'm allergic to mold, which I had told them. We were checking out the next day and was going be gone all day so we didn't say anything again but when we checked out we expressed our concern and all the manager said was "thanks for letting me know". My husband and I visited Charleston for our 15th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago and had the pleasure of enjoying the great hospitality of The Ryder. It is a boutique hotel in the perfect spot downtown with access to all of the things you want to experience while in Charleston. Service - 10+/10 From the moment we arrived until our departure, we were treated like special guests. All of the hotel staff, including front desk team and valet when present, greeted and recognized us when entering or passing through the lobby. Chad, the AGM also worked hard to ensure our comfort and satisfaction with our stay. Location - 10/10 Perfect location. Great proximity to everything, including the downtown market, shopping, waterfront park, tours and restaurants. And as a bonus, it is across the street from FIG, Charleston's famed restaurant. If you haven't made reservations, what are you waiting for? Room - 9/10 Cute, cozy and spacious. Bed was comfy and I liked our view. Only thing I would have liked was a fridge. Being such a foodie town, we often had yummy leftovers and it would be nice to be able to bring back. Amenities - 9/10 We didn't take advantage of the gym and bike rentals, but those were a nice add. Absolutely appreciated the concierge service. She was able to help us identify a few good restaurants and places to visit. The pool and on-site restaurant were both nice. We really enjoyed our room service from the restaurant one evening. Complimentary coffee in the morning. This hotel needs to get its act together! It seems like they renovated an old motel to make it instagrammable but have put no effort into the guest experience. Much of what is listed on the website was nowhere in sight (e.g., no welcome drinks, no in-room yoga mat, etc.). We were woken up twice in the night--once by our alarm clock, which had inexplicably been set to go off at midnight, and again early in the morning when the cleaning staff were enjoying a loud conversation outside our room. When we checked out, we were charged more than the amount in our reservation confirmation, and it took a full day for the hotel to get back to us and correct it. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. It's really well situated, in a very walkable area. The amenity fee is $35/day, which is outrageously expensive considering the only amenity is the pool. The pool is small, not enough lounge chairs for everyone, you literally have to fight for it or be there ass early. Staff wasn't great either, barely polite & very slow. The rooms are NOT cleaned daily. They only change the sheets and towels, and somehow we still ended with stained sheets. There's no microwave or mini fridge in the room, really the bare necessities. I'm really disappointed because I was excited about the hotel, it looks really cool and fun. Will definitely not go back. read more

I say AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Better off going to a Hilton or something. Honestly, this hotel is cute and in the center of the city but it's really not worth the hassle, stress, or money that we spent staying here. The hotel seems VERYYYYY poorly managed which is sad because it has so much potential. Booked here for a bachelorette trip. My card was the one we put down for incidentals ($100/day/room) we were staying for 3 days and we had 2 rooms so I was charged a $600 hold for the rooms. The next day, the bride who had booked the room noticed she was ALSO charged $600 to her debit card and that money was automatically pulled from her account without her consent. When we went to the front desk to get this resolved we were told that it was a computer error and that the money would be refunded within 7 days. We were also offered a $150 credit to the little restaurant by the pool. 10 minutes later we are called down to the front desk and told that the $150 credit was not approved by management and that they had to take back that offer. When we asked to speak to the manager the front desk person told us that Chelsea the Manager said no we couldn't speak to her. We then called the 1-800 number for the hotel and they apologized and reinstated our credit. We later learned that this also happened to another group of girls at the hotel when we overheard them talking by the pool. It has been 5 days since we checked out so I checked by credit card to see if the incidental holds were removed. Instead I find that I was charged $108 ($26 to one room and $82 to another). I immediately called the front desk about the $82 charge and asked for them to send me the receipts of what was charged to the room. I then noticed that there was a false charge of $68 to the room for wine and tequila while everyone in our bachelorette group was out for dinner (I have time stamped photos). I again spoke to Chelsea and asked her to refund me the money, I sent her the time stamped photos and the details of the restaurant reservation and Uber we booked to get there. She then said she needed the dining department to look into it before they can refund me my money and that she couldn't guarantee it would be done today. To add to all of that, when we checked in and went to our rooms we noticed chocolate stains on one of the beds. It was on the inside of the sheets and the comforter, we did call the front desk and get all the sheets changed in the room for both beds. The body wash bottle was also empty and broken when I went to go shower and had to wash my body with shampoo. Clearly they did not check the rooms before we checked in. Not to mention the pool is small and you have to fight for lounge chairs because there is not enough room for everyone. read more

We stayed a few nights over Memorial Day weekend at the Ryder hotel and had a really nice experience. Room was clean, modern, and the vibe is really cute - Scandinavian minimalism style. The bed was extremely comfortable - so comfortable we almost snoozed until checkout time. There are renovations happening to the hotel but it never was noisy or bothered us. The vibe by the pool in the morning for coffee and a quick bite is really nice and welcoming. It's also the perfect place to hang and unwind with a drink after a long walk in the city. The best thing about this hotel is its' location. It is a 1 minute walk to the shopping on King Street and about 5 minutes walk to East Bay/Market and all the restaurants. It's extremely centrally located which makes staying here so worth it. We look forward to our next visit! read more
