This was the strangest experience I've had at a restaurant with a hostess. We went on Sunday around 7pm. We saw that there was outdoor seating and an acoustic guitar player so we decided to take a look at the menu. The hostess outside gave us a menu to look at. After my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to eat there, she informed us they were no longer seating anybody. Ummmm, what? It's 7pm on a Sunday. She said "yeah, we're not seating anybody - if you'd like to go inside you can". We said we wanted to eat outside so I guess we'd have to go someplace else. She said well, you can give me your phone number and I can call you if anything becomes available, but it's going to be a good 15 minutes. What????? You don't have a wait list? I was so confused. We went inside for a drink which was made perfectly by the way. We went back outside after 15 minutes and she sat us at the first table outside. The hostess from inside came outside and said "you can only order drinks, no food. Kitchen is too backed up". Now it's 7:30pm and we want to eat. The waitress came over, took our order, and the wait time for food was 15 minutes. I have no idea what kind of training they give their staff, but it's the strangest I've ever seen. Food was actually very good which is why I'm giving it a 3. Drinks were on point as well and our waitress was nice and attentive. It can get way too loud if you want a nice quiet night because of all the drunk kids coming from the beach, but we made the best of it. There are definitely better places in long beach though. read more

One of the longer living restaurants in the west end, the Saloon is perfect for a quick meal or a stop on your night out. I ordered Mahi tacos and they were tasty. Also tried the spinach dip which was also good but a little watery for my taste. They recently redid their menu and have an awesome outdoor patio for the summer. read more

The place is nice, great food and good menu selection but service is horrible! We had a table of 5 people and ordered 2 beers, 1 wine and a soda. We waited 40 minutes just to get a drink. Also I need to mention the place was not packed at all and the table that arrived next to us with 7 people received food and drinks agreed or our 5 too. Our food order, which was good, only had Mediterranean Wrap, California Chicken wrap, penne ala vodka, fish and chips and quesadilla. The bill also took an minimum 15 minutes to be complete. Since the weather has been so coperative lately, I wanted to find a place to eat outside. The saloon still has BEAUTIFUL outdoor seating. A great selection of beers, and food. What strikes me most importantly is that I had looked at the menu ahead of time, and had my heart set on chicken francais- which is on the online menu. When we got there, the menu was slightly different, and no chicken francais. But the waitress asked in the kitchen, and they happily prepared it for me, and it was deelicious. My friends and I went here for dinner after deciding the hour long wait at Cabana's was too long. What a mistake that was. This place looked nice enough and the menu seemed pretty decent, as far as atmosphere goes it has a very nice outdoor patio that is covered by an awning. It also seemed less busy as most of the tables were open. With waitresses running around our table it some how took a good 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order. We then spent another 45 minutes waiting for just the appetizer to arrive. If I knew I was going to wait an hour for food I would have stuck it out at the first place I actually wanted. You would think the long wait would have stimulated my appetite and made the food taste better, but it didn't. We ordered the appetizer sampler and then I had the Asian salad. I don't expect much from bar food, but for the prices they charged and the time it took to bring out you would have thought there might have been a little more quality somewhere. I tried one of my friends french fries and decided not to finish it. I have no plans to ever go back here again. Bad service and bad food on a relatively slow night; I would hate to see what happens when it gets busy. read more

The Saloon is a great bar in the west end of Long Beach, NY. Came here two times- once I sat at the bar once I sat for dinner. I had Brenna as a waitress and Phil for a bartender. Both 5 of 5 stars. I came here with my family for dinner. We ordered the appetizer sampler that has spring rolls, wings, potato skins. The potato skins were okay, spring rolls tasted like they were triple fried. The wings were pretty decent, if I ever come back I would get that as my entree. We also had the guacamole which was gross, wayyy too much lime. I had a burger with bacon, cheese and onions. The burger was fine and was cooked a perfect medium rare. I have no idea what this place is like for hanging out as I just went there for dinner. The lighting was pretty bad in the back. One of the better bars in Long Beach. Great selection of beers on tap and a good sized location. Great bartenders when I visited this location last fall. We showed up right after a Halloween party and the place seemed to empty out a little, but still had a decent crowd. Good times, great location right by the beach. Came here with my wife a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon, was greeted by a very pleasant hostess who sat us at a table outside. It was a beautiful sunny day and we were both pretty hungry lol. The waitress came up right away and asked us if we wanted anything to drink, my wife ordered a lemonade and I got blue moon beer. Both came quickly and were very much on time as it was pretty warm out that day. Then she took our order and I ordered Saloon Burger - (9oz. fresh ground beef with choice of toppings each $0.75 (cheese, bacon, sauteed onions mushrooms, avocado) served with lettuce, tomato, onion, and side of coleslaw) - $9.95 and my wife got the Sliced Steak Sandwich - (with garlic mayonnaise, sliced tomatoes, lettuce) - $15.95. The food came out shortly after. My burger was perfectly cooked as I said well done, it was very delicious and succulent and the patty was pretty thick. My wife's sandwich was very delicious as well she said. Service was great and we both loved the pleasant atmosphere and the food as well. At the end we were both full in a very pleasant way. Ya know, the food here is actually much better than I expected. The service is always really good. I like it for a mid-week evening or daytime visit. The Saloon can get a crowd that isn't for me and get really packed on a Saturday night which is why I try to avoid going on weekend nights, but other than that - I really enjoy it! read more

On this fine day as summer is waning down, my cousins and I decided to stroll down to the beach with pina coladas, the virgin type that we enjoyed one lunch at The Saloon. Please recommend someplace new because our visit today put a dent in our wallets for three mini child cups. My "prerogative" was that they were so not worth it. This is quite possibly the worst food we've had in any recent memory. And that is incredibly disappointing given the really nice atmosphere and really great live singer/guitar player while we were there. The food both tasted and smelled bad. There was a problem with my initial order having some mystery non-food substance in it, but it otherwise smelled really nasty. They were really nice about handling it and bringing me something else, but the something else wasn't much better. I visited The Saloon this past weekend. The staff was very nice, and so is the atmosphere. My issue with this establishment are the drinks. I was with a friend and we both felt the drinks were watered down. I ordered a small assortment of different types of alcoholic beverages, and found them to be very weak. One of the drinks I ordered was a vodka on the rocks, which I order on a regular basis. Again, very diluted and I believe, even illegal. Not right. Will not return. read more

Its a really chill place, perfect for stopping in after you go to the beach and just to hangout and grab a drink or bite to eat. My friends and I wandered into The Saloon after specifically commenting that "bar food" should be relatively quick and difficult to mess up. How wrong we were... While the atmosphere was pleasant, it couldn't make up for the fact that we had to wait close to an hour from our arrival for our appetizer sampler to arrive. Had the appetizer taken another five minutes, we had planned on simply leaving and going somewhere else, which would have been a first for us. While the mozzarella sticks were pretty good, everything went quickly downhill after that, as we even left a few buffalo wings simply because nobody felt like finishing them. For our meals, my two friends both had salads, while I ordered the grilled chicken wrap. One salad came with a vinaigrette that my friend deemed inedible. The other was rated as slightly better than what could have been obtained at a McDonald's. As for my wrap, the chicken was overcooked and dried out, which made it necessary to add salsa, despite the fact that the salsa taste was completely overpowered by cilantro, which I hate. I saw no reason to continue eating the french fries that came with my meal, which was perhaps the most amazing thing about the meal, as it is very difficult to make such flavorless fries. It was almost reminiscent of the food I'd eaten in London a few years back, where everything seemed to have the flavor boiled out of it. In the end, none of us finished the meal he had ordered, or very much wanted to bring it home. We spent the ride home talking about how unhappy we were with the meal and how it had essentially ruined our evening. Our two biggest regrets were (1) that we hadn't left before the appetizer arrived and (2) that we felt like we probably left too large a tip at just under 10%. (For comparative purposes, all three of us normally leave more than 20% on our meals.) It's safe to say that we won't be returning to The Saloon for any reason. We could have gotten a much better meal for less money at nearly any store with an awning in front (which may include barbershops). Well I didn't get a chance to eat there because I couldn't get anyone to seat us, me and my girlfriend stopped by for lunch on a Friday afternoon, the place was dead the bartender watched us walk in but would never greet us, when I walked up to the bar to ask if we sit anywhere he got on the phone and turned away from us, we continued to wait for the hostess for another 8 mins we couldn't find anyone to help us so we left, the bartender watched us walk out and never said anything to us. I suggest to save your time and money on this place. Now it makes sense why the place was empty. One good thing came out of this we found the restaurant "speakeasy" 1/2 a block away. Not exaggerating, this place absolutely sucked! The service was terrible the food was below average and the place was a dump. When I ordered my food I asked for the Texas Burger which is supposed to have an egg on it. I said "can I please have the Texas Burger with just the cheese and egg, nothing else?" The waitress wrote it down and brought out our food. When I got my burger it was over-cooked, had lettuce,tomato,onion,and tons of guacamole on it and to top it off no egg. This happens to be the best bar in town in my opinion. I think the food is truly top notch, and we often come here for dinner, bypassing all the other choices on my way from Island Park. The burger in my opinion is top notch, it is a house blend I understand. I was there this thursday for Prime rib night. It was $17 buck or so for a awesome, tasty, perfectly cooked prime rib, salad, potato, and veggies. For 4 of us, all having the prime rib special, and several mixed drinks and beers was under $120. I will be back again this Thursday for the same deal!! The best place in the West End to watch the games in my opinion. Never over crowded, and the barkeeps are good people and are very attentive. The back yard dining area with the big screen TVs should stay open I guess until foul weather. Thats my review, and I hope you like it if you ever go there. read more

The music was great! A lot of 90's throwbacks. But one thing I really didn't love was the 20 questions from the so called "bouncer" who was pretty old, balding, and loved his flashlight. I'm almost 23 and he thought my ID was fake because of an apparent influx of NJ, CT, and RI licenses. I was told I should have brought a second form of ID such as a passport because apparently if you are under 24 and out of state you need that to get in. Meanwhile two PA friends of mine went in before me with no problem. I've never heard of such a thing. I just traveled to Florida and was able to fly with just my ID and wasn't questioned a single time while down there. I'll likely never return because I don't want to have to deal with that headache again. It's a shame because I would almost say I enjoyed myself otherwise. read more
