    Soft Shell Crab Basket

Love Salty Mule! We had dinner and drinks with a group of friends and family for my husband's birthday and had a blast. We went to the bar first for drinks and the happy hour specials ending at 6pm. The waitress was nice, and the guys were super talkative when they knew we were Dolphins fans, and the guy shucking oysters was focused but still laughed at jokes or conversations. The cucumber cocktail was great and refreshing, the $2 beer special is unbeatable. We got a table fast when we were ready to eat with the group and the server was fun and engaged. We had multiple rounds of oysters (which were good sized Gulf oysters), fish dip, shrimp cocktail, and wings. The star of the show was my plate, their soft shell crab plate. You don't see it on anyone's menu often so I had to get it. It was juicy and the crabs were really good sized, I was full. The inside is cute, very clean Florida bar style. You kind of forget you are in Canton, GA. And it's walking distance to everything downtown so it can be the first stop of a night.

Overall I'd probably come back here for some lunch. My wife got the fried clam strips with fries and it was solid and we'd order it again. I ordered the lobster roll Connecticut style. For the town of Canton, GA it was SPADES! The only thing that was weird and you can see it in the pictures was they had fried peppers and lemons in the calamari so when I bit into what I thought was calamari and it was a lemon I thought that was a little odd. The server was friendly and did a great job. The vibe was good and the music wasn't too loud making lunch conversation easy. I'd probably try a drink next time. A table near us was having a really food time and seemed to love whatever it was they were drinking.

Came here for my husband's birthday and enjoyed every minute of it. Food and service were incredible. Our waitress was very nice and quick with service. The restaurant was nice and clean and had an excellent atmosphere.

We made it back here for oyster special , even though it is special for the night but the size and freshness are the best ! All food taste great specially Collard green taste ! Price is definitely a bargain for what you are getting ! Highly recommended!

The Salty Mule never disappoints, the food is excellent with plentiful portions. Our service was great as always. The ambiance is a nice social gathering with the ability to have couples conversations. Great Canton downtown restaurant!

We waited for about 7-10 minutes to be greeted & seated at a table. The interior was actually quite warm for the first day of March, especially considering that it was 65* or so outside. Our waitress was fairly young, which shields her inexperience, but the unawareness of customer needs reflects on the training that new hires go through. The table only had the major waste thrown away and was not properly wiped down to remove food scraps & sticky residue. Soft drinks & water arrived within an acceptable time frame (3-5 minutes), and my beer finally came to the table after about 10-15 minutes, meanwhile the bartender had time to stay engaged with his phone. As for the food, my po' boy was disproportional in many aspects: 8 medium sized shrimp on a 9-10" hoagie with shredded iceberg lettuce that's a few days past its prime, tomatoes that reflect their industrial grown roots, and a remoulade whose only purpose is to introduce sauciness without significant flavor...the most distinguishing flavor came from their selection of pickle slices. If you order fries for your side, I suggest you specify extra crispy and prepare to add extra salt (of course, try them first, since everyone's tastes differ slightly.) I will say, the hush puppies and fried clams are pretty good.

    Happy hour oysters $1 each.

Everything was delicious. It's like it was cooked in butter the way my food melter in my mouth. The staff was very friendly. It would've been 5 stars but $36 for 1 piece of fish, 3 oysters,3 shrimp, 5 scallops and fries was pretty steep.

Seafood platter which was amazing!!! I got the red shrimp and grouper.

They were clearly understaffed, which was apparent from checking in with the hostess. The line of people waiting to check in with her caused the waiter taking desserts downstairs to have to wait up to five minutes with that tray. Once we were seated, we thought things might go better. Crab cake Benedict was the #1 choice for my wife and BIL, but the kids' menu didn't have the chicken and waffles the guy who called to confirm my reservation had mentioned. That was no problem because my kids have learned to find something to eat wherever we take them, and I ordered chicken and waffles to share with them because I love my kids and knew I would get enough food one way or another. The mimosa came in a wine glass because they had run out of flutes, which was fine by my wife, but she said they tasted heavier on the juice than on the prosecco. My waffles came out a bit burnt, but they replaced them with no problem when we pointed it out. My kids got fresh waffles, and I enjoyed the burnt ones. The chicken was one decent piece for a person, but split between my daughter and me was less than I had hoped for. Thankfully, the salad was a decent appetizer. When the crab cakes Benedict came, we were shocked to see a mess of scrambled eggs on a thin crab cake with an English muffin under. We always ask for hollandaise on the side because that sauce can go several different ways of bad, but in this instance we were genuinely confused how a benedict could come with anything other than poached eggs! The flavor was okay, but the texture and presentation left a lot to be desired. My wife only finished half of hers and didn't touch the limp fries. You can probably figure out how I made do with food in this instance. Our kids, meanwhile, devoured their food like we had starved them their whole lives, so on the plus side we didn't have to hear kids whining about food! Service was polite but very slow. I don't know that we'll be back. With the abundance of good restaurants in our area, it's going to be hard to justify returning here.

First good sign: the bartender had classic bartender energy. Easy to talk to and good at what he does. Looking at the menu, I immediately noticed some French touches, including escargot, which you almost never see around here. I had to try it. It wasn't the best escargot I've ever had, but when a place in Canton is putting it on the menu, you give them credit for the effort. The real reason I came in was the oysters. I'm a big Roberto's in downtown Woodstock fan, which I consider the oyster mecca of the area. So I was curious if Canton had anything comparable. To their credit, Going Coastal actually does oysters properly. Not just the usual generic stuff. They had Murder Points, which tells me someone in the kitchen cares about quality and sourcing. I also ordered a piece of fish. They cook it to order and let you choose how you want it prepared. Some people want the chef's call, others like control. Either way, the execution was solid and the flavors worked. Bottom line: this is a good seafood spot. The best seafood option in Canton.
