First visit, located in downtown Canton. Dining room is quite small, yet comfortable. Their adjacent bar is also small but very nice. Menu prices are on the higher side. I started out with a house salad, with their homemade, creamy balsamic; it was fine. Complementary hot rolls are also delivered to the table, I didn't care for these rolls as I felt their flavor fell flat. I had the Chicken Parmesan for my entree and it was reasonably good. Service was average throughout. Overall, I felt that the food quality was good, but not great; the same with the service. And with higher than normal pricing, this won't be my regular stop for Italian fare. read more

We went for dinner on a quiet weeknight. There were only two other tables occupied and they sat us all right next to each other, which I thought was kind of weird... next time I'll ask to sit a little farther away if it's available. Just finished a wonderful meal with good friends. Mamma Onesta's was an excellent choice. We ordered appetizers of calamari, mussels, and toasted cheese ravioli. Our mains included Carbonara, Eggplant Parm, Veal Parm, Eggplant Rollottini, Lasagna, and tonight's special- Bucatini. Everyone complimented the flavors of their meal. We all shared a bite of bread pudding as well. After the first bite of the toasted ravioli, I immediately knew we were in for a very good meal! The service was awesome. Nick and Melanie we knowledgeable and helpful and took very good care of us. The Chef came to our table twice to ask us how we liked our meals. Only have been here once. We ate at the bar which we had to make a reservation for. A little strange because we were the only people in the place for the first 45 minutes. The ambience on the bar was nice with an old bar feel. Service was decent. Food was really good. I had the nightly special which was really good. The bruschetta was not great. The restaurant is a little strange and the reservation process for the bar area is strange as well. With newer Italian restaurants coming to downtown, it might be time for an upgrade of reservation policies and decor here. read more

WOW. What an incredible evening. This was one of the best Italian meals I have had in Georgia ever. When we got there, we were greeted by one of the co-owners, a lovely woman (whose name I forget so sorry!) who was incredibly friendly. She asked if we were the Okeys and yes we were! We were seated at a table for two, with a lovely candle on the table - perfectly cozy. After she seated us, we were greeted by our server, a very nice young man named Atticus. His service was excellent throughout the whole meal. We had the caprese and the calamari for apps. The captese was OUTSTANDING. Fresh, crisp tomatoes with delicious mozzarella. The pesto was a lovely addition. The calamari was excellent as well, with a delicious red sauce. When it was time to order our main, Atticus was very helpful in suggesting things we had a hard time choosing between. My husband had the chicken Milanese - it was very good! A little sweeter than normal, but delicious nontheless. I certainly won the entree competition - Gorgonzola gnocchi. It. Was. The. Best. Thing. Ever. 8/5 stars. For dessert, we had a cannoli and the limoncello marscopone cake. SO GOOD. Everything was incredible. All in all - if you're able to visit this location, please do. Melanie was so sweet and friendly as she welcomed us inside the restaurant and seated us at a lovely table for two by the window. Soon after, Adrian greeted us with her gracious smile when she introduced herself to us. She provided us with excellent service!! We ordered red Sangria which was so good and refreshing. The Caesar salad was our first course followed by the most delicious chicken Marsala with spaghetti ! WOW!!! Superb cuisine!! We also loved the light Caesar dressing. It was perfect!! Now comes the dessert: crème brûlée cheesecake that melts in your mouth with just the right sweetness. This was truly a GEM restaurant!!! Five-star service and food quality and presentation. This is one of the best Italian dining experiences I have had in many years. First of all, the food was excellent, the marinara sauce was perfectly balanced and the service was exceptional. The staff went out of their way to be friendly and Mario took time to show us the bar area that is available during their busier hours. We have lived in this general area for nearly 40 years but moved into the Canton/Ball Ground area three years ago, and have eaten in a lot of different Italian restaurants while residing in Cumming and Buford. It also takes first prize in atmosphere, beginning with the historic building it is located in. The bar area features the marble found in many historic buildings in this region that continues to produce marble. The choice of background music was excellent, most notably comprised of classics from the 30's 40's era featuring legendary big band jazz and other similar styles. It was not loud and was such a nice break from the typical more contemporary sounds and repetitious beats used in excess in so many establishments today. The absence of TV screens added to an appealing ambience so rare today. Well Done! read more

So Mamma Onesta's (honest mother, in Italian) will be bookmarked in my local favorites folder. This one is a gem people. My second time here. Once for lunch and once for dinner. The first one was 5 star and the second one would be higher if I could. A very traditional Italian restaurant with authentic and amazing cuisine. When the owners greet you and the door and ask how your day was, where you are from and other delightful greetings you instantly get a warm and wonderful connection. Side note here.. Mario and Melanie remembered from the first visit 3 months earlier that I grew up in Chicago and lived here in Canton. Very impressive. The restaurant is impeccable and decorated so charming. Your servers will will take care of you beyond the normal. Filling your water glass, asking if everything is to your liking and if you need anything else. Everyones food comes out at the same time and hot! Even if all the servers have to bring the entree's out together! A wide selection of tasty wines, red and white. I always like to engage the servers and ask for the dish they would recommend. She suggested their Signature dish ... Chicken Onesta, Chicken in olive oil with a garlic and white wine with spinach, roasted red peppers and melted provolone on a bed of pasta! The Caesar salad was not your normal Caesar. It was tossed in an anchovy and garlic oil then sprinkles of fresh cheese. Absolutely fantastic. And the best personal touch ever... BOTH THE OWNER AND CHEF comes to your table to talk to you about your meal!! Amazing! How was it? What did you like about it? Just so cool! One of the best experiences I've had in a long time. First the good... Dining in Canton is always pleasant. It's a short drive from home and parking is easy. The atmosphere in the restaurant was nice, and not too noisy. The chicken piccata was excellent, and the wine list was good. However... the service was not good. Our waitress did not have the experience or training needed, and it was quite obvious. She was nice but absent, and it felt like we were her fist guests at her first restaurant. We were seated next to the front vestibule, and the staff kept leaving the door open allowing the freezing cold air inside to hit us like a hurricane. One in our party had to keep his coat on. The fettuccini was great, but the alfredo sauce was the worst I've ever had; zero flavor. The bruschetta was also terrible and tasted like pure vinegar. I couldn't try the caprese salad because the restaurant rant out of buffalo mozzarella the previous morning. No one asked us how the food was until long after we were finished eating. All in all, I would go back, but only after they hire experienced servers and train them properly. I would stick with the piccata and be cautious about trying other dishes. If going in the fall or winter I would request to be seated far from the front door. read more

Walked in at 4:30PM on a weekday party of 4 noticing this place while walking around Canton. The lady that greeted us seemed sort of strangely unwelcoming as if we surprised her by walking in. Felt awkward almost as if we weren't welcome. Asked if we had a reservation which we didn't. Nobody in the restaurant at all. She mentioned that only her husband was in the back and she would ask him if we could be seated. BTW, no signage indicting reservations only. She came out and said she could give us a table in the empty restaurant. People did start showing up. My Chicken entree was a small size portion with a small side of overcooked pasta. The entree was good, wish I had a little more on the plate. Ordered a bread pudding dessert recommended by the waitress. Looked good, took a few bites and the walnuts must of went rancid and they didn't know. May consider trying again after I have read some very good posts and that it is a family business which I like to support. It was a nice cozy looking place but, it was an awkward first visit. I really like walking into an establishment that I feel like it's home with a warm welcome especially.... being a first timer regardless of any policy. read more

We enjoy trying all of the restaurants in our town, especially the smaller ones that make up our downtown area, because we truly want this area to thrive. Unfortunately, our experience at Mamma Onesta's wasn't what we had hoped it would be. The restaurant is small and intimate, which can make for a pleasant and romantic experience. Because of its limited space, reservations are required. For us, our waitress wasn't attentive at all and had a lot of difficulty managing her couple of tables (one of which was a group of five boisterous women celebrating a birthday and us). It took about 10 minutes just to be acknowledged and asked about drinks. We each ordered a glass of Moscato from the wine menu and after about 10 more minutes she brought out our glasses and advised she'd bring out bread. After one taste of the wine, we wondered if we weren't erroneously served Chardonnay. The wine was very dry and sharp, not at all the sweet, slight sparkling expectation of what was listed on the menu. It's now been 30 minutes since we sat down when she finally returns to our table to take our order and we can question her about the wine (still no bread, btw). She explains that it is a moscato, but that it's a different brand than usual. We tell her to take it away, it's too dry for us and we are ready to order. Five minutes later the owner/manager (?) brings out two rolls fresh from the oven that had zero flavor and apologized for the wine. She explained that the distributor sent a substitute for some reason. Here is my issue - substitutes happen, but that should have been told to us when we ordered, because we ordered based on what was on their wine menu and not telling the customer of the change is just unprofessional. Additionally, if the waitress had simply stopped by to tell us that the bread was delayed because it was being baked fresh, that would have gone a long way in appeasing us for waiting 30 minutes with nothing but a glass of water on our table. In regard to the food, my husband ordered the lasagna which he thought was just okay, nothing special but it was a large serving and had a nice mix of meat, cheese, and sauce. I had the tortellini, which was not fully cooked; I'm not saying it was al dente, it was actually hard and not very hot, because it wasn't done. The cream sauce it was in was very good, and it's a real shame the pasta wasn't properly cooked, because it ruined what should have been a good meal. No side dishes come with the meal other than the rolls, which we didn't bother to ask for more of because they were so flavorless (I honestly think they forgot the salt in the recipe). I will say other tables seemed to have better service from their waitresses and I hope that our issues with the food were a one-off. Sadly, I don't think we'll return, it was just too expensive for a disappointing evening. read more
