Swordfish Kabob
Autumn G.

The food was delicious! We had the swordfish kabob, a Caesar salad and my husband had the blackened swordfish. Everything was amazing and service was impeccable! We will definitely be back. This is one of those hole in the wall local spots that we were lucky to find!

Wine list that is second to none.

Food Everything on the menu is great from the fresh fish, the tuna sliders, the soups, the cole slaw and even the chicken wings. Service Warren at the bar is the best. Chrissie, Andrea, Carson, Katie, Taylor and Zach are all veterans and all are fantastic. Ambiance The vibe is great. Customers are friendly at the bar. You can never go wrong here.

We ate here twice for lunch. We had the yummy fried oysters, a shrimp & chicken quesadilla and I had the yellowfin tuna with lemon pasta. WOW! It was fantastic! Service was very good. Their lunch restaurant isn't very large, but seemed to work. 2nd visit wasn't as good as the first, but still very good. My hubby had the potato shrimp soup (he loved, I didn't). The fried calamari was again great! My hubby had the Mac 'n' Cheese (fresh rigatoni, shrimp, lobster, scallops & cream sauce). It shouldn't been called Mac n Cheese. It put a specific thought in mind and it wasn't even close. It was good. I had the shrimp & grits (cheese, tomatoes, bacon, chorizo, shrimp & grits). Very good! Not as good as what I had in Charleston, but still very good. Both times the service was very good. They were friendly and really kept up on my husband's ice tea needs! We come down most every year and this will definitely be added to our list!!

I'd heard a lot about Captain Charlie's over the years, finally made it here for dinner. It's a good casual spot. If I was local, I'd probably stop in from time to time, especially to dine at the bar. The chow is very good and fits the fair menu pricing. I like the smaller portion option they offer on dishes where they can, and especially like their wine list, which is better than you'd expect at a place like this. The selections indicate someone knows their wines, glassware too. My small order of Grilled Scallops was very good, very fresh. Others enjoyed Bouillabaisse and a small order of Paella (was actually quite large). The Fruit Cobbler was maybe the best of all, and their homemade ice cream also fantastic. Our server, Carson, was excellent... personable and aimed to please. RECOMMENDED

Linguini w/Fruits of the Sea

I have been to Captain Charlie's 2 Doors Down many times over the past 25 years but went the first time to The Original last night and it is actually better. The food is marvelous, the ambience is nicer (more room) & service was excellent! I had the Conch Chowder as well as the Linguini with Fruits of the Sea (shrimp, mussels, little neck clams & fish). Both were excellent. My wife had the Encrusted Salmon which she said was fantastic. This is a can't miss spot whether you go for dinner (The Original) or lunch (2 doors down).

The Creme Brûlée Traditional I ate it

I don't usually go out of my way to write reviews, but I had to for the crème brûlée here because it seriously stood out. From the moment it came to the table, you could tell it was done right. The presentation was clean and simple, but the real highlight was that perfectly caramelized sugar layer on top. It had that ideal golden color--not burnt, not too light--and when you tapped it with your spoon, it gave that super satisfying crack. Once you break through the top, the custard underneath is incredibly smooth and creamy. It has that rich vanilla flavor without being overwhelming or overly sweet, which I think is what makes it so good. A lot of places mess that up and make it way too sugary, but this one was really balanced. It felt light enough to finish easily, even after a full meal, but still indulgent enough to feel like a treat. Another thing I noticed was the texture--it was consistent all the way through, no lumps or weird separation, which shows they really know what they're doing in the kitchen. It also tasted fresh, not like something that had been sitting around. You could tell care went into making it. The portion size was solid too--not tiny like some places where you get two bites and it's gone, but not so big that it feels excessive. It was just right for sharing or keeping all to yourself. Overall, this is easily one of the better crème brûlées I've had. If you're coming here and skipping dessert, you're honestly missing out. I'd come back just for this alone, and I'll definitely be ordering it again next time.

Roasted oysters

This review is for Captain Charlie's 3 Doors Up Lunch location. This is definitely a locals place where the staff call customers by name. It's a little intimidating as a newbie. So many people have recommended it but finally decided to try it. It was extremely crowded on a weekday lunch. We were able to be seated immediately at the counter. There aren't a lot of tables and the counter gives you an up close view of the cooking action. The menu is extensive. Then add on the daily specials. Everything is cooked to order but it's fun watching as you wait. We tried the conch fritters. While they weren't terrible, I wasn't getting much conch. I think the pieces were chopped up super small. Too much filling. I prefer slightly larger pieces of conch with less filler. The remoulade sauce was delicious. I wouldn't order these again. I had the roasted oysters. It came with 6 large oysters. Absolutely delicious. A butter and cheese crust. The oysters were fresh and flavorful. I took a bite of the clams and linguine. At least a dozen little necks for the lunch portion. It was a basil wine sauce with chorizo. Highly recommend. The menu is amazing and I look forward to returning.

Dining room I saw as we were leaving

This was our first visit to captain Charlues reef grille. We called ahead to find out they don't take reservations for small parties but that the wait was minimal. We got there 15 min later and it was now 45 minutes. We waited outside (it was very cool outside). We were told we could go to the bar a few doors down but wasn't anxious to drink and wasn't sure how crowded it must be on there. Should have looked. Everyone seemed to have a a wine glass in their hand as their name was called. We were finally seated in a booth on the side where the counter was. Not super comfortable , height of table isn't well situated for height of seat. Had no clue how nice it was on the dining room side . Had we sat on that side I bet this review would have been better just based on that. Had no idea till we got up to leave and took a peek. Our waitress was lovely and was very attentive. We ordered a bowl of soup , since it was so noisy in there they brought out the wrong one but it was quickly changed out to the NE clam chowder. The chowder was creamy and hot but there were almost no clams in it, that was disappointing. For entrees my husband ordered the mussels and I got the warm salad. His mussels were overflowing and came with several wedges of toasted bread. My warm salad was disappointing. I had hoped for more squid and other seafood , the only thing that was a decent amount were shrimp, maybe 6/7 medium sized. I knew I was getting a warm sautéed salad but the base was not really enjoyable. I basically went digging for the seafood which there wasn't much. All in all it was a disappointment . I doubt we will come back but if we did I would want to be seated in the dining room and I would order something more typical. Unfortunate because we had read so many good reviews. .

We had the fried pork gyoza, crazy salmon roll and honey honey chicken and had to try the fresh in season mango and sticky rice!! Yum! KATI has only been open a little under a year since they changed owners, and it has blown us away. The quality of the Thai dishes and sushi especially is both artistic and well balanced and the prices are the best in town. The owner was our waitress and she is very sweet and a wonderful human being. The music is relaxing, it's very clean and fully of small modern touches that make it feel like a slice of Asia and a slice of home all at the same time. The fresh salad came first. Then the California roll. It was the best California roll, I've had in a long time. Perfectly rolled and balanced. Cold and delicious. My garlic chicken was very good, full of vegetables and with rice on the side. My only suggestion is that the sauce needs to be a little thicker with more garlic. I appreciate and liked the presentation, it came in a small bowl instead of on the plate with the rice. Highly recommend you give Kati a try.

We waited 15 min to be seated. We ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer. It's was delicious. My husband ordered the Boniato, Parmesan crusted grouper over salad. Which he said it was great. I ordered my go to meal, the Everyday Plate with grilled corvina. Includes, coconut rice, a melon pineapple salad and fried plantains. I was so disappointed, with my meal. The fish was over cooked, the rice was a pile of tasteless rice, no coconut flavor or flakes, the pineapple salad, was chunks of melon and pineapple and no sauce. It always so tasty and cut in small pieces. The three plantains were cold and taste old. I am not sure what happened. If we will be back, I'll definitely won't ordered my favorite dish again. I gave it four stars, due to the Brussels sprouts and my husband's meal being so good.

We spent a couple of hours here so we had a few people assist us, but Brandon was our initial server. I inquired what his favorite dishes are and one of the items he mentioned was the avocado ginger roll. We decided to share this and each order a smoothie. However, we did make a few changes to the roll. First we axed the cucumber and mango. Next, we requested sliced strawberries. This roll was heavenly! The ingredients were ridiculously fresh and the pairing of the textures and tastes are simply dynamite. A true WOW factor! I would return for this item alone! I ordered the banana almond smoothie and the birthday gal ordered the protein star. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our smoothies. Our servers did a fantastic job taking care of our needs and our water glasses were never empty. The restaurant is extremely clean and the layout is fantastic. In fact, there is a whole other side behind the restrooms. There are two single use restrooms. Parking is first some first serve in a parking lot and credit cards are accepted.
