They carry a little bit of everything like clothing, home goods, books, and small pieces of furniture. I've been lucky enough to find something useful or unique each time I visit. The furniture especially has been a pleasant surprise, with prices that are incredibly affordable. Like most thrift stores, it can be hit or miss, but that's part of the fun. It's exciting to see what new things they've brought in and it keeps me coming back. I really appreciate that this place is part of a bigger mission and supports a cause that gives back to the community. That makes every purchase feel even better. The location is also great. There are a bunch of antique and vintage shops on the same side of the street within a couple of blocks, so it's easy to spend an afternoon exploring and hunting for treasures. Free street parking in the area is a nice bonus and makes it convenient to stop by anytime.

I wanted to share a very frustrating experience I just had at the Sunnyvale Discovery Shop. I went…read moreto drop off a large donation: 13 women's brand-name jackets (some still with tags) and 15 Chico's tops, many of which were brand new. A girl opened the back door and asked if I was a volunteer. Holding a massive, torn Chico's bag and armfuls of clothes, I told her no, I was there to drop off a donation. She coldly told me they usually only accept donations Tuesday through Saturday, but said to just leave them since I was already there. When I went to place them in a bin, she rudely told me to just put them on the floor. Her face and tone were incredibly unfriendly from the very beginning. When I asked for a receipt, she signed a form and handed it over. As I went to fill it out, she snapped, "I need you to go outside since you are not a volunteer!" I told her I just wanted to finish writing down my items, and she aggressively replied, "No, it's a compound, just go." I just said, "Sure, whatever!" and walked out. She completely lacks customer service and basic social skills. Because of her sour face and cold manners, I decided not to give them my third bag, which held 11 Coach and Kate Spade bags and wallets. The Discovery Shop management team gets their salaries out of our donations, yet this employee is the exact reason they lost out on major profits today. I have volunteered for the Cancer Society before, and we were always taught to greet people with a smile and great customer service. She had neither. This Sunnyvale store never fails to disappoint. During my last visit, I caught the helpers taking clothes out of donation bags and putting them directly into their own cars. When I reported it to the manager, she said they were sent by the county to finish community service hours. Management need to train their staff better; donors deserve basic respect.

Not sure if this place is run by the city or a private organization. It looks like a giant thrift store/antique place. It was really well organized. There were signs detailing the different sections. I saw plenty of people working behind the counter helping people,also other workers bringing stuff out from the back. Not really sure if the prices are of fair value. But I assume the place needs to make money. It's a large warehouse. Still it's a fun place to browse around.

However, it is nothing like crossroads or those thrift stores you go to at Haight and Ashbury in SF. Clothing is fairly cheap, but the majority of clothes the store offers do not have brand names and are typically from stores like Forever 21, Papaya, ect.. I have to admit, the prices are awesome for what they offer. You can find a nice romper from Forever 21 for $3!! The best part about the store is that they have bikes (which I have never seen sold in a thrift store before). The store ranges from clothing, kitchen and household appliances (ex: popcorn machine for $5), and house furnitures ($25-80). The furniture was actually really nice and was a great deal! So I felt that purchasing something from here goes to a good cause. I love that. They have a lot of clothing items, shoes, jewelry, books and household items for sale. I found a section of old cookbooks that peaked my interest. I found two really neat cookbooks from 1929 and 1949 that I had to get. I love old cookbooks and forgotten recipes from the past. I also found a set of 4 appetizer plate that had different images of cheeses on them. I thought they would be great to have for a charcuterie board. The ladies that volunteer their time there, are all so friendly. I had a nice time chatting with them. They signed me up for their rewards program where you earn points with every purchase. They also let me know that they welcome volunteers. I'll have to keep that in mind. It's a very nice store and a great place to find treasures that are intriguing. I will definitely come back and go to some of their other locations in the South Bay.

Plenty of shoes, bags, and jewelry, too. They still have lots of vintage items and they didn't seem as overpriced as they did a year ago. Nice sets of dishes, collectibles, milk glass, knick knacks, and books. I found an Eileen Fisher sweater in my size for an excellent price. What a nice surprise. The cashier tipped me off to a second one in green on the rack, but it wasn't my style. I appreciated her thoughtfulness, though.

The next closest one is 9.6 miles away…read more Though Goodwill is also non-profit, I like Salvation Army better because they exist to find addiction recovery and homeless center. Because 82% of their money goes directly to operational aid, 1.64 of the $2 electric toothbrush is going to directly help people. Meanwhile, Savers is for-profit (lame), even though I might go there for the bigger selection of costumes and games. Salvation Army often has less overhead and doesn't make their exclusive items available for auction, so everything from those pacifiers to those brown and yellow boxer shorts are a little cheaper, plus their CEOs make less money. On God. I don't think there's a dedicated drop-off spot in the back, but at least the doors open automatically, so it's easy to carry in those broken VCRs, CD players, landline phones, typewriters, encyclopedias, and Puff Daddy Bad Boy Reunion Tour 2016 shirts.

Anyhow, the clerk spent about 30 minutes helping me sign up for the program. On that day, I may have not have got 50% off on most of my purchase but I did get 25% off plus $5 for signing up! I appreciate the clerk's help and patience as I figured out how to sign up for both their email newsletter and get the store's app. Now I regularly get notices of special offers. I am so thrilled! Now about the store. It is ironic but this store used to be a Goodwill. It is a pretty big store. From the front, you may think it is small but it goes far back. The store has lots of clothing for sale. It has some new merchandise that I assume is from Target originally. There are some kitchen items, glass collectibles, and toys. I don't see much in the bedroom or bathroom items like towels, blankets and rugs. Also, there is no furniture but perhaps because there is not much space for it. But then there is not much space for furniture in the other location in San Jose. On a similar note, I miss the location in Campbell that closed a few years ago. It was huge with an upscale section of clothing, fine collectibles and jewelry, and it had furniture. The only other huge Salvation Army stores that I am aware of that sell furniture now are in Gilroy, Oakland and Salinas. And yet, I am sure there are other large Salvation Army stores perhaps in the San Francisco area. But I have seen in general that most Salvation Army have done away with the upscale section which is also saddening. Both Salinas and the other San Jose location near the fairgrounds used to have an upscale section in separate rooms that housed high end merchandise and I truly miss it. Where does all the upscale merchandise go to now?
