I want to address several statements to the owner because they do not accurately reflect what happened. First, please do not characterize my behavior as bullying. I have every email I sent, and while my emotions were understandably high because my dog's life was at risk, I never once disrespected, threatened, or bullied anyone. Being emotional while advocating for my senior dog is not the same as being abusive. Second, you were not the person who spoke with me on the phone, yet your response is written as though you personally witnessed that conversation. Comprehension of what I actually said matters. I never said the receptionist herself was irritating. I said it was frustrating that she repeatedly told me pyometra is a deadly infection--which I was already fully aware of. If I didn't understand the seriousness of pyometra, I would not have been advocating so persistently to save Shivers. There are no inconsistencies in my story. Financially, I consistently explained that I am unemployed, receive public assistance, and earned less than $40,000, which met the financial criteria for your foundation. Those facts never changed. What upset me was the phone call regarding Cherry financing. I never shared information about Cherry with the receptionist, yet she brought it up and assumed we had remaining funds available. That assumption was incorrect. I was not approved for Cherry--my sister was. There were no remaining funds to use. I also have an itemized invoice from Love Animal Hospital showing exactly what was paid. Of course I applied to the other resources your organization provided. Unfortunately, none of the foundations were able to assist, and the "low-cost" veterinary clinics I contacted were still quoting over $2,000 for surgery, which is simply not affordable for me. My emotional circumstances have also remained consistent. My grandmother, Veronica, passed away from sepsis on Mother's Day. My other grandmother, Morena, is currently battling Stage 4 adenocarcinoma. I explained that Shivers is my emotional support animal, which is why I fought so hard to obtain surgery for her. Those statements have never changed. Please also do not make assumptions about my history with Shivers. I only became Shivers' legal owner last year. From the time we adopted her until 2025, she lived with my mother. Beginning in 2025, she began living independently with me. When I was 12 years old, I repeatedly asked my mother to have Shivers spayed, but my mother believed she was too fragile for surgery. Looking back, of course I wish she had been spayed years ago, but that decision was never mine to make. I only became financially independent in 2025, and shortly afterward I lost my job. While someone might say I had a year to pursue surgery, I was not aware of pyometra at that time, and Shivers was already a senior dog. I never expected this medical emergency to happen. I am also not entitled. I come from a low-income household and have always been humble about my circumstances. This was never about me asking for special treatment. It has always been about trying to save Shivers. What made the phone call so upsetting was that the receptionist made it seem as though having Cherry financing meant your organization was no longer willing to help us. That was confusing because just the week before she had encouraged me to call her back on Sunday so we could try to get Shivers in for surgery. The change in communication left me feeling like I had suddenly been sent back to square one. Pyometra surgery is an expensive emergency procedure. Given my financial situation and other responsibilities, it simply was not something I could afford on my own. That is why I reached out to your foundation in the first place. I respectfully ask that my concerns be addressed based on what actually occurred rather than assumptions about my intentions or character. I AM ATTACHING SCREENSHOT OF THE EMAILS I HAVE SENT THIS FOUNDATION THE OWNER IS DEFINITELY LYING ABOUT MY CHARACTER OF BEING A BULLY. If this is what you call "bullying" you need tough skin and should not be helping people that are emotionally just trying to advocate for their pets! I owe this foundation so much and am happy I can say THANK YOU. They were literally life savers. I randomly found them as I desperately looked for help because my cat had gotten skin cancer and I did not have the money to give her care. -I applied and heard for them quickly which was essential -They were super friendly and helpful -I appreciated that the income range for applicants was a little higher than extreme low income. Vet care is very expensive. -They require a diagnosis from a vet (at least when I applied several years ago) They took care of my cat and the follow up appointment. They educated me and instructed me to what I should do. I was so grateful that I asked if I could donate and they told me they didn't take money for their services. Sam Simon Foundation was a miracle sent from above.. my story.. My boy was 14 at the time.. in his senior years. One day a small bump appeared on his nose and within months it was huge and gross and nasty and it stunk. They wanted me to pay over 4,000 for his surgery.. I cried for months as it just grew bigger.. I search and applied for different foundations to help me.. but there was nobody willing to pay for his surgery unless it was life threatening.. although it looked gross and looked bad it wasn't life threatening.. one day I got a return call from Sam Simon foundation! Wow what an amazing organization. I supported my neighbor to apply for her 1.5 year old cat who had an injury and an open wound that was not going away. It was horrible, and after going to a first vet, we realized the cost of surgery was the only reason we could not give this young cat what he needed to fully recover. After applying that morning, they reached back out to us that afternoon and by the next day my neighbor and her cat had an appointment. This was a miracle! Very best in Animal Care is the Sam Simon Foundation. We were referred by a friend who is also having a financial hardship. They saved her Kitty, and after, we were given information on this foundation. We weren't perfect in communication and I thought all was lost. Our pup needed surgery for many growths and was quite uncomfortable for a year at least. The surgery was very expensive and we were barely making ends meet. We had taken out loans and our credit was maxed. We turned to Sam Simon in desperation. It was a life-changing experience. My baby got an ear hematoma so i took her to a local vet to get it drained it but i couldn't afford the repair surgery so the hematoma came back a couple days later. i was looking for low income services for her ear repair and then i found The Sam Simon Foundation. i sent in my application on saturday night, they called me sunday morning, had me approved, & scheduled my appointment for monday all in a span of 1 hour!!! i had also mentioned she had not been spayed and that i was looking around for a place that spayed at a discounted price and they offered me the service! Staff was so nice and gentle with my baby! While i was in the process of getting approved it felt like they were genuinely trying to help me out & wanted the best for my doggie! I want to start by saying I had trusted SAM Foundation for over 20 years with my dogs and cats, and for that, I was always grateful. They've done good work in the past -- including eye removal surgery and bladder stone removal for my white poodle named Mamas. I appreciated those services deeply. But I need to share why I stopped trusting them -- because the last experience was heartbreaking. During Mamas' second surgery, I was called in the middle of the operation and told to come pick her up immediately because they "didn't know what was wrong." That call was shocking, confusing, and terrifying. I picked her up not knowing what had happened, and she passed away shortly after. I was left with grief, no explanation, and no closure. When they recently called me to schedule spays for two pit bulls, I told the representative the real reason I didn't bring them in: because of what happened to Mamas. I also expressed gratitude for the past -- even while sharing something painful. Instead of compassion, I was met with a defensive and dismissive response. I was told things like "you still should have contacted us," and "you're wasting our time." That moment confirmed everything. There was no empathy. No ownership. No accountability. Just blame. I'm sharing this because pet owners deserve honesty. We trust these organizations with family -- not just animals. And when that trust is broken, and the response is cold, it's devastating. A long overdue review. My family dog had an eye mole/growth that was starting to inch into his cornea. I took him to the vet and was quoted $6000. I'm a social worker, I couldn't afford it. But by complete chance, I came to know of the Sam Simon Foundation and submitted an application online. Truthfully, I didn't think they would get back to me, and especially not as quickly as they did. Free vet care seemed too good to be true. However, about two weeks? After the initial online application, someone called me to schedule an appointment. The different vet techs on the phone with me were super communicative and polite. I was able to hand over Beau and receive him the same day with complete medications and even his mass for testing. Beau is now mass-free and has returned to his daily post of eating my dad's plants. I think a lot of the negative reviews are simply because people can't follow instructions. The Foundation is very particular in the way they receive and handle appointments such as remaining in your car, coming on time, filling out forms properly, etc. You have to realize that they are providing FREE services and have a way of doing things. I was contacted by them soon after applying. My 1 and a half year old who weighs about 2 lbs needs surgery. I was told they would spay her when surgery is done which is sweet. I'm meeting with the Dr. soon to discuss the course of the procedure. While my pet was never seen by them, the care and support I received over the phone was phenomenal. My poor dog ate my son's fish hook and were quoted $5k from an ER vet. I don't understand how anyone in this economy can dish that out but thankfully we were referred to Sam Simon by the ER vet. It was quick and easy to apply online. I received an email immediately and didn't realize it said they'd contact us in one business day (he ate the hook on Saturday, I was scared they wouldn't answer us until Monday). Despite this, they still called us extremely early on Sunday morning. I missed the call but they left a message that unfortunately they don't do the surgery my dog needs. They asked that I email them so they could send over more information. I immediately emailed them and it took a while to hear back (not upset about that, I'm sure they have a ton of families who apply and animals to care for) but they called me back regardless and pointed me to a vet that could help. They honestly did more than I expected, they could've said "Sorry we can't help" and shut the door but here I am on Monday afternoon, sitting in the recommended vet's office having my dog looked after. I was scared my dog would have to be put down but thankfully that's not the case thanks to Sam Simon.
