The owner Kat was also the instructor. She was very thorough in her instructions before getting started so everyone was clear on what to do at each station. There were 3 exercises at each of 4 stations covering all the bases, leaving you spent after each one. Kat provided tips and motivational quips throughout which was super helpful. The other ladies in the class were friendly and welcoming. This is a 3 story boutique gym with even the 1st floor indoor area open to the outside allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and breeze from the nearby ocean. There are amazing views of the sunset over the ocean from the 3rd floor. Here's the best part, I happened to be there on a night where they were having a wine tasting social on the 3rd floor from 5:30pm-8pm. Kat and her assistant put out a lovely spread, both generous and tasty. Members brought bottles of wine to share while socializing and making new friends. It was such an awesome way to bond with this little community, which is something Kat really prides herself on. It's not just a gym but like a second home, somewhere you enjoy going to not just rushing in to grab a workout and get out. Check this out if you're in the area, you'll be glad you did! The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. The workouts are never boring and designed to build on each other so that you can meet whatever goal you set for yourself. I've worked out at other gyms that focus on making the workouts as intense as possible. While P360 doesn't lack intensity, it is much more focused on quality than quantity. Instead of doing 100 deadlifts, you will slow it down and work towards your personal max over the course of weeks. The coaches are also extremely available to the members and will work with you on injuries or when you need more instruction. I came in knowing nothing about Olympic lifts. Not only do I feel comfortable with all of them, I've never injured myself in the process.

The programming is intentional--it keeps you from getting overly fatigued or risking injury, while still challenging you to push hard when it's your turn. The rotating group format includes rest blocks that give you just enough time to recover and hit the next set strong. I love that part so much! If you've ever dragged yourself out of a warm bed at 5:45am, looked in the mirror, and thought "today's the day I stop being a before picture" -- these trainers will meet you there. And that's the honest truth. The training at Fitstop La Jolla is the real deal. Classes start on time. They're efficient. The energy's positive. Nobody makes you feel like a sack of laundry for not deadlifting a Buick. The trainers are the whole reason this place works -- encouraging, locked in, they meet you exactly where you are. A few of them are flat-out spectacular. They pay attention. They actually care. As a guy showing up to 6am classes trying to turn things around and start crushing life, I felt supported every single morning. No notes. That part earned five stars. Couple small things, and I'm barely complaining. The music gets... lyrically adventurous. If you've ever done burpees at 6:15am while a grown man on the speakers describes things you wouldn't want said about your daughter -- you might train at Fitstop. But hey, they want it edgy. Who cares. Not my hill to die on. Here's my hill. I tried to leave. And here's the kicker -- I did it right. I gave the exact 28-day written notice their own contract spells out, in writing, by the book. You'd think that'd be the easy part. You'd be wrong. Instead of "got it, here's your last day," I got the runaround. By my read they're billing me nearly a month past what their own contract says I owe -- a 28-day notice somehow turned into a final date that doesn't line up with 28 days from anything. And when I pointed out the math, the answer was basically "no discrepancy," with no real explanation of how the dates work. Upton Sinclair said it best: it's hard to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on not understanding it. And let me be real clear, because this is the part that matters. This is NOT a "read the fine print" review. I read the fine print. I followed the fine print. The problem isn't the fine print -- the problem is they don't honor what's in it. If you've ever followed a contract to the letter and watched a company wave off the math with "no discrepancy" -- you might be cancelling a Fitstop membership. And that's the shame of it. I liked these people. The fitness side deserved a way better review than this. But it doesn't matter how good you feel at 6am if you walk out the door at the end feeling like you got worked over. You can build all that goodwill at sunrise and torch it at the billing desk. Honor your own contract and this is easily four stars. Great trainers. Just know that when it's time to leave, that's where the workout really starts.

Taking advantage of a 3 for $36 intro special, I tried out PVOLVE, one of the fitness studios…read morelocated in the newest section of the Westfield UTC Mall. It took me all 3 classes to finally understand what PVOLVE is. Their signature classes utilize a lot of proprietary props and accessories like the p ball (a resistance band that holds a ball that you put on almost like a belt or pair of pants). They do have a weighted training class that does involve light weights (up to 15 lbs). The movements are described as functional. As the instructors teach, they often describe how the movement mimics a movement you'd do in your everyday life like picking up something of the side of the bed or closing the door. There are foundational positions that you frequently work out of involving small, but effective movements. As someone whose done all sorts of group fitness classes, I can honestly say it isn't quite like anything else. While there are components that mimic barre or pilates, it's different. There are a lot of inverted positions in which one foot might be facing forward while the other is moving inward. That was unique and felt a little difficult to get used to, but the instructors are very attentive in helping you get it right. I especially enjoyed Maggie. She was so friendly and I took her classes twice! If you're a first timer, know that you do wear athletic shoes here. They have a nice locker room and changing area. You pick up your basket of props and drop them off at the end of class. Overall, I really enjoyed the classes. I think this studio would be especially great for those recovering for an injury as it feels slightly similar to physical therapy. It's highly accessible and there was a wide age range of participants in the class. The only thing that would prevent me from continuing to come here is the cost. The monthly unlimited membership is $400/month. It's a great workout, but that's a really high cost, even in comparison to many other group fitness studios. The benefit is that it does come with access to their at home classes, but it's still difficult to justify. A single drop-in class is $45. I really enjoyed the class and hope I can find a way to come to another class!
