We chose the Sencha Kyoto Cherry Rose tea (they have variety of teas to choose from). Our servers were very attentive and the ambience was lovely. They even have racks of different types of hats to borrow while dining, if you like. We look forward to our next visit!

The Tea House has a mission of helping with just that. Several months ago, I listened in amazement to the sweetest voice explain to me as I was told of what took place here centuries ago. This very home was used as a place where young girls would be sent during an unwanted pregnancy, only for many to meet fates less than wonderful for themselves. Snooty parents would bring their holier-than-thou daughters to sneer and stare, and laugh and poke fun at these tortured souls. This was the way these uppity mothers taught their children that this is not the best example in life. Of course we all know this to be true, but all those girls at the home had feelings of shame already. Add the pitied stares by the mothers, the sneers and laughs aimed in their faces and you have a horrible recipe. The girls at the home should have been respected instead of used as an example, a joke. Built by Jarret Dent, Dent House is the last standing antebellum home in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The mansion is a c1854, 165-year-old converted Tea House now with its own attached parking lot, and is located amidst the Bonny Oaks Arboretum with circular-patterned cobblestone walkways. There is also a Carriage House, which is a shopper's paradise. Offerings include: * Appetizers * Charcuterie * Soups, Salads and Sandwiches * Afternoon Tea * 4-course Tea Lunch * Candlelit Dinners * Special Events * Private Parties The 'Afternoon Tier' or small one-half plate called 'A Taste of Tea' comprises most of their popular selections such as chicken salad, deviled egg, little cucumber finger sandwiches, and basil pesto tomato crostinis. The charcuterie and salads are what we went for and they were delicious. There is so much to choose from, I need to go back again soon to try some other menu items. A separate 'Sweets Menu', a 'Kids Menu', plus more than two-dozen lovely hot or cold teas to choose from round out the offerings from the menus. Genesis House of Tea is open Monday through Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm and they are closed Sunday. Don't miss out on visiting the Arboretum after your lunch because it's very beautifully designed whether it's the Spring season where the flowers are starting to bloom, are already in full Summer bloom, or when the flowers take on interesting seeding in the Fall. No matter when you go, each season is complete with color. *****FIVE FABULOUS STARS!!!!!*****

Casual, colorful, the kind of spot where you expect someone to walk in wearing flip flops and carrying a fishing pole. Comfortable vibe. Easy place to settle in and see what the fryer can do. First up were the fried green tomatoes. They came out looking like they'd just won a beauty pageant. Crispy outside, tender inside, cooked exactly right. Texture nailed. But flavor-wise they felt like they forgot their gym bag at home. Needed salt. Needed a little personality. A rare moment where the fryer did its job but the seasoning clocked out early. Then the headliner arrived. The fried chicken at Champy's Famous Fried Chicken has a reputation to protect, and thankfully it shows up ready to work. Crisp, flavorful crust. Juicy inside. The kind of chicken that crunches just enough to make everyone at the table look over and get jealous. "If the deep fryer had a Hall of Fame, Champy's chicken is getting a first-ballot vote." And then came the move that sealed the deal. A dip into Champy sauce. Suddenly the flavor level jumped another notch. Salty, tangy, just enough punch to make the crust shine even more. The sleeper hit though? The cole slaw. Creamy, balanced, and actually refreshing next to all the fried goodness. It's the quiet kid in class who ends up acing the exam. Easy to overlook, but absolutely worth ordering. Now for the tiny curveball. I happened to land there on karaoke night. And let's just say... the speakers believed they were performing at an arena concert. Loud enough that conversation required leaning halfway across the table and reading lips. On the flip side, the crowd was clearly having a blast. A few genuinely good singers, a few that were more... enthusiastic than talented, and plenty of people cheering them on. Honestly, respect to anyone with the courage to grab a microphone in a room full of strangers. So no star deductions for that. The people who showed up to sing were having the time of their lives. Bottom line, Champy's Famous Fried Chicken is a fun place with seriously good fried chicken. Order the bird, grab the slaw, lean into the fried side of the menu, and enjoy the show if karaoke happens to be on the schedule. Just maybe bring your singing voice... or your earplugs.
