And menu options were incredibly difficult, the variety was broad and I don't doubt every choice is a show stopper. The dishes that left us speechless were the meatloaf, fried green tomato's (the best we've had all week) and the coconut cake (we will be dreaming about this forever and I don't doubt will get brought up at family gatherings) Our table got 3 of the salads and everyone also felt that they were the best salad they had all week, I personally got the Thai shrimp crunch salad and was beyond pleased with the taste texture quality of shrimp and the flavor was absolutely jam packed. So many people recommended Jane's Bistro I finally had to try it. Actually I tried it 3 times in 10 days and it was always packed which speaks volumes. First visit I wasn't starved, so I went for the Fried Green Tomato appetizer. It was beautiful and delish. My husband has the chicken wrap and declared it the best sandwich he ever had. Second visit I had to try the Toasted Pecan and Cranberry Chicken Salad which everyone raves by. I know why now...this could be addicting. The last time we went was for Sunday brunch which had a limited menu. We shared a fried chicken sandwich which had a slaw on it. We both thought it generous in size and delish. And I can't believe I haven't mentioned the fries by now...BEST fries ever. Thin and crispy. Prices are appropriate for value, and service was exceptional first two visits. Our server was surly and inattentive for brunch. Wouldn't want to get her again. I will overlook that because everyone else was exceptional. read more

Met friends for lunch. I was looking forward to the Thai shrimp salad that wasn't on the menu at my first visit. Our server was delightful but there were a couple of strange incidents during our meal. We were seated in the back on the right. We placed our order. Server told us Jane is known for the coconut cream cake, but they're all out! Their mushroom supplier hadn't delivered, all out of those. Also known for fruit in the iced tea. I tried the tea, which was basic black tea with fruit floating atop--no actual fruit-infused flavor, so a bit underwhelming. Loved my salad, but halfway through we started smelling something like a dirty diaper or the cooking of cabbage or mold? There are no Brussels sprouts on the menu, so we were all trying to locate the odor. It was off putting for sure. We mentioned it to the server. We learned there was a roof leak above our heads--like it had been there awhile. Food is great. Service was great. Odor was not expected and should really be addressed! read more

This is a bright and cheery bistro tastefully decorated with a shiplap theme. I stopped here for lunch and shared the Farmers sandwich. This was exceptionally delicious, brimming with roasted eggplant, Roma tomatoes, artichokes and mushrooms. It came with skinny fries which dipped in their fresh green goddess, was mouthwateringly delicious. The portions are fine for sharing, even when hungry. I also tasted the toasted pecan cranberry chicken salad. It was the best I've eaten! Alas, I have to give this bistro 4 stars instead of 5 because the delivery of the food (for four) was painstaking slow. We have talked about trying Jane's for some time on our beach trips to HHI. We were very excited, and gave it a go today... and sadly very disappointed. The food wasn't too bad, not the best we have had though. No seasoning on the salmon sandwich, smash burger was okay. The problem was the service. Extremely slow and inattentive. Appeared to be that for most guests unfortunately. Had to continue to ask for refills, napkins, and the bill. Then each of those took much longer than it should have. There you have it. read more

We arrived 15 mins before our reservation. We were seated within five minutes, and the waitress came and took our order about 15 minutes after that. Then, we waited for our food for over an hour. We just had salads. I don't know what happened but being in a restaurant for an hour and a half before you have any food is ridiculous. read more

We sat at a booth and there was also an attractive area outside which is perfect with the weather right now. Our waiter was nice but he was trying to manage several tables at once and we had to wait a long time between visits. We started off with the Thai chicken wings. They sat on top of a salad with peanuts and had a thimble of dressing to put on the salad. The wings were excellent ! I got a cucumber vodka cocktail ($12). It was very small, but tasty. For this price, it should be in a larger glass. As an entree, hubby got the pork chop. It had baked apples and the chop was coated in cinnamon. At first we weren't sure if we liked the weird taste, but got used to it. I got the shrimp pasta. The shrimp were very fresh, but I didn't like the sauce. It really wasn't sauce, just tomato juice dumped on top. Both of our entrees came with a beautiful orchid on the plate. Presentation was beautiful. They advertise a 3% fee for using your credit card. *sigh* I usually pay cash but didn't have enough money on me so I had to pay with a card. I usually opt for restaurants that don't tack on additional fees. Not sure I would be back due to this. There are so many other wonderful options that do not charge a fee. read more

We both had the fried green tomato stack-OUTSTANDING! No soup on the menu but asked if they had any? YES tomato basil-very good. Add an ice tea for a perfect lunch. Four of us went for dinner on Friday with reservations at 7:00 pm for an outside seating. We were told they didn't have outdoor seating so we were seated inside which worked out better since the weather got a bit cooler. Jay was our waiter and started us out with water from a reusable bottle. We started out with some drinks--- Margarita, Therapist, and Draft IPA. Our fourth person wasn't drinking other than water. For vegetarians such as my wife, you can order off the salad or starter section. She ordered hummus which was excellent as well as tomato flatbread which also looked good, but I didn't have a chance to sample. I ordered the Seafood Pasta which is in a spicy marinara sauce served with an orchid flower on top. The dish itself was much larger than it appeared with about 6-10 large shrimp and 4-6 mussels as well as very tasty panchetta. It certainly hit the spot and I would rate a 10 out of 10. The servers were very attentive and from start to finish we were done within 90 minutes. Probably less than that. I was a bit surprised over the total fees--- First there is the South Carolina sales tax of 7%. Then another tax (Island Tax?) of 2%. Then an additional 3% charge for using a credit card. I'm not a fan of additional charges. Their prices are a bit high, but reasonable for the HHI during tourist season. No discount for locals, though. Hence just 4 stars. read more

Brunch on the lovely patio. From other reviews, we knew blankets were available. It was a bit chilly so we asked. Not sure they would have been offered regardless, but read on. We ordered the Low Country breakfast and Chicken and Biscuits. My husband loved the latter. I enjoyed the Low Country brunch other than the eggs which were on the dry side. The polenta cake was very good. We also had the endless mimosas which ended at 2, but only because we had to ask more than once. Different servers and after asking our initial one, she didn't return. After a while, another server came by and seemed surprised that we asked for a refill. Next time, will just order a single beverage. It wasn't super busy, but service was confusing and lackluster. We had to wait for our waitress had to wait extensively for our drinks and when we asked for seasoning for the pasta it never came. Bottomless mimosas! Difficult to come by on the island, so I was very excited to come across this with friends. Important to note everybody should have a reservation for Sunday brunch. If you do come for mimosas, I highly recommend sitting at the bar. Brian was fantastic. Our glasses were always filled and was great giving advice on what to order. The French toast was to die for, Thai salad amazing, breakfast flautas or So-so. I would very highly recommend the Thai salad on days it is not brunch. I understand it's a full-time menu item. With so many places to eat in HHI from which to choose, sometimes it's hard to decide where to go. We were on the Breeze shuttle, and the driver said Jane's had the best coconut cake. That sounded appealing, so we hopped off the bus and headed in to the bistro's lovely, modern open space. They were moderately busy with a few open tables in the front, so the host gave us our choice. We chose a table by the window where we sat down in comfy high-back leather chairs. A nice start. Denise was our server and was so friendly and had such a nice smile. We decided on wine, and then two different appetizers (so we'd have room for the cake). What we received when the hummus and the garlic shrimp arrived was impressive! So nicely plated with plenty enough food to fill us. The shrimp was so fresh and served with fresh bread to dip into the broth, which was heavenly. The hummus was equally as delicious especially with the accompanying chopped cucumber, olives, and red pepper, with pita triangles. When Denise stopped by to check on us we told her we had heard good things about their cake. I could tell by the look on her face that she hated to tell us that there was none available - they were having trouble with their ovens. Bummer! She did say they were baking at their other location and it would be available the next day. We tried again the next night, stopping in to get a piece to go, and wouldn't you know it, they were sold out! It just wasn't meant to be this trip! We still highly recommend eating at Jane and that you enjoy some cake for us. We'll be back to try again next year. read more

We started off with a bottle of wine for the three of us. I appreciated the waitress asking us if we wanted to taste it before committing, but we're not picky, we were gonna drink it no matter what. I started out with the fried green tomato caprese. It was really simple but really elegant and well-executed, I liked it a lot. For the entree I got the double smash burger. This was pretty decent. The overwhelming flavor was the bun, I took one of them off and it still tasted excessively of bread. What I could taste of the meat and condiments was good! I came here for lunch with my family while on vacation in Hilton Head a few days ago. The place had great reviews and seemed like the perfect spot to grab a hit to eat. The decor is lovely and the service was ok. We had called in advance to make a reservation and the hostess/waitress took a party before us that wasn't as large, making my 91 and 93 year old grandparents wait for 15 mi utes for another table. I had to eventually ask if we could use a table that they hadn't cleared off yet for the past 15 minutes instead of the one they were waiting on to pay their check, which made way more sense. If a restaurant cannot figure out seating, that's a huge minus one star. The next minus star was my salad. I ordered the Southern Salad that was a mexican salad with grilled shrimp. The shrimp was delicious but the rest of the salad was just ok. I should have ordered the chicken and cranberry salad that I initially wanted to. My husband got a chicken salad sandwich that he really enjoyed. My sister got the salad with apples and grapes that had fried chicken on top. She finished it but said it wasn't the best she has had. Super nice place with a modern but intimate feel. Although there is great outdoor seating we sat inside not far away from the bar and it worked out great. Perhaps due to COVID (it is hard to tell what is normal anymore) the sound level was tame even where our table was so that was a bonus too. For dinner I had Mama's Freakin' Meatloaf -- Bacon wrapped, over whipped potatoes, sautéed carrots, topped with crispy onions & tomato bacon jam. For meatloaf the presentation was striking and everything tasted great. (I wish I had an entire side of the crispy onions!!) The table service we had from Karen was great and there is enough on the menu to make this a definite return for the next time that I am in the area. read more
