We are part time locals and have been coming to the Sandbar since it opened. Most of the time we have bought fish and shrimp at Joe Patti's and have brought it here to be cooked, knowing that we would pay $13.95 per pound to cook our 'catch'. Always a great experience....until last night. The new manager (who has been there since September, as she told us) looked at our catch with disgust on her face. Said they will only cook it if we actually catch it. And told us they have NEVER cooked shrimp. She also told us the price is $13.95 per person, yet the menu clearly states per pound. Maybe this is a new policy that was implemented when she started in September. And we're ok if this is the new policy, but the attitude and rudeness of this manager was absolutely not necessary. The restaurant was quite busy as it should be during this time of the year. But when all the tourists leave, they are left with the locals. Unfortunately, these locals will not be coming back nor will we recommend The Sandbar to our quests who rent our two condos. read more

We came in here while waiting for our table at the nextdoor restaurant, Frisky Dolphin. They are associated and can bring you your food here, or your drinks to the other location. It took someone a long time to come check on us. While we were waiting, we noticed a big hole in the ceiling tiles which they hadn't bothered replacing. It was slightly disconcerting, but we knew we'd be leaving soon. We ordered a few drinks, and they took a while to come out to us. By the time we had one or two sips, our buzzer was finally buzzing. We paid quickly and left to go next door. We did order some more drinks while at the neighboring restaurant, but I'm not sure I'd come back in here. They do have plenty of seating, and some arcade games for those interested. read more

Casual beach bar and grill with amazing water and sunset views! Menu is great, we enjoy the baked oysters, wings, grouper reuben, Philly cheese steak, and burgers to name a few favorites. Also like the variety of side choices, especially the Muffaletta pasta salad, tots, and yummy broccoli. Must try the gritter tots appetizer! Super friendly and efficient service. Food: meh, I probably didn't order the best thing but noting to rave about. Service: slow and absent a lot of the time. We were there when the restaurant had maybe 4 other customers. They still managed to deliver it to the wrong costumer. One of the chefs who created the recipes for the menu who was off work was so embarrassed that she started busing our finished plates as the bartender was absent 90% of the time. Ambiance: beach bar, hard to botch this on. If you want good drinks with better food and attentive servers go to Crabs. But, If you want a stomach ache after waiting 2 hours as an under qualified serving staff to delivers a sandwich to the wrong table go to Sandbar. read more

I have traveled the world eating my way through Italy, France, Spain and many other magical places. The food at the Sandbar/Frisky Dolphin on Pensacola Beach is top notch, and amazing. We tried everything from the delicious tuna dip, snow crab legs, redfish platter and a selection of scrumptious oysters. Got the blackened Redfish sandwich and tots. Menu says it comes with American cheese but I substituted smoked gouda. Really good. Large piece of fish that hung over the bun quite a bit and was cooked really good. Nice chunky tomato slice. Server Amber provided excellent service. Overlooked a marina. Indoor and outdoor seating. The wait staff was very friendly. We were seated right away. The appetizers of fried onion rings and loaded tater tot's were quite good. For dinner, I had the redfish topped with shrimp and Gouda cheese. It was so so. Being from New Orleans, I am kind of picky about shrimp and sauces. The fried shrimp had a heavy batter but did taste very good. The three of us enjoyed drinks, appetizer and entrées for $89. I thought it was quite reasonably priced. For a beach restaurant it was worth going to. The back patio is excellent for drinks and watching the sunset. The "bushwhacker" is similar to a mudslide and worth the calories. Our friend, enjoys Champagne but did not know what to order. So the bartender created a new drink called the MaryLou in her honor, Champagne with a splash of a strawberry Lacore. read more

So disappointing.... our first visit and certainly our last unfortunately. One of the first beautiful days of the year, we decided to try this one as they have a great deck overlooking marina and fantastic spot for sunsets. We walked up the stairs at front and found that the door was locked! Tried a few times and no luck. We walked around the back and followed the hand painted "see hostess" signs thru seated tables to find a staff person sitting at a table (wrapping flat ware I think). He told us to sit where ever we wanted and he would send someone over. The best table had just opened but hadn't been cleaned but a very attentive bus guy came over and cleaned right away. Waiter was personable but seemed scattered... had to ask for a drink list and beer menu... ordered drinks and appetizers which arrived timelytt. Wings were decent but oysters (Parmesan crusted) lacked any flavor and were served with some type of grease which I am assuming was impersonating clairified butter. We ordered entrees when appt TTY arrived and as sun started to go own and had to make a trip to the car for sweatshirts, the waiter swung by and seemed surprised we had no entrees (almost 1 1/2 hrs waiting). Turns out another server took our plates.. things happen and the view was great so aside from getting colder as evening approached, we lost track of time. The manager came over and apologized and sure enough, our order came out quickly. The big disappointment was the final product... burger was overcooked and very dry and accompanied by lunch room frozen tatertots! fish was to be "grilled" but appeared to be just flat top seared and signature dish, redfish frisky, was topped with a boring red sauce and a dish of honey Dijon??? Rarely are we disappointed with any of the choices along the beach but sadly this is our first. read more

My wife and I and another couple had dinner here this evening. We're snowbirds and we look forward to once again eating at the Frisky Dolphin during our stay in the Pensacola Beach area. Tonight the food was perfect. Three of us had the Frisky's Redfish Sandwich, which has pretty much become our staple when eating here. That washed down with a $1.50 draft while enjoying watching a sunset over the sound made for a perfect evening. I would be remiss if I didn't mention Gerik our server. He was pleasant and attentive and made the dining experience that much more enjoyable. Thank you Gerik we will likely see you again next week when we return. read more

Updating: The Specials keep bringing me back. They have Monthly and daily specials. Their Cinco De Mayo Specials were hard to beat! And K.D. The main bartender is fantastic. Still sad about no wifi but this place is great! Original review: So there's no wifi. They have the trivia channel TapTV but you need wifi, not everyone has unlimited. So that's why I can't rate them higher. They have amazing Budlight Specials. Their pitchers range from $6-$8. Being on the beach is incredible. They have a great patio perfect to watch the sunset. Very disappointed with our experience here or lack thereof. My family of six came in to eat. We were promptly seated by the hostess and given a menu to order from. As we prepared to order, the waitress, Elsa, told us we could only order from the buffet. This was weird, because as we looked around the deck, we noticed other guests were being served from the menu and were not required to order from the buffet that appeared to have been sitting out for an extended period of time. Also, why would the hostess give us a menu if we couldn't order from it at that time? We thought there may have been some confusion, so we asked another waitress if they were only serving from the buffet and she stated that if that's what OUR waitress told us, then yes. It was clear that we were not being offered the same service other guests were. I'm not sure what the intention was behind offering some guests buffet only and other guests the menu, but we promptly decided not to patronize this business. This was rated well so we decided to stop by for dinner. The staff seemed unorganized and it took a while for the staff to take our drink order. When the food arrive it was very average. I had the baked oysters and steamed shrimp. The oyster topping still seemed raw and was not very good. The shrimp were very small.
