Stopped in a quick bite and it was close to my hotel. The reviews say it's 4stars but I found it to be just average. I came in for yellowtail dish that I saw online but they didn't have it, I ended up going with my servers recommendation which was the Crawfish pot pie which was amazing, a little heavy but still good. The crab cucumber salad was the disappointment- it was just a mayo & cucumber not one piece of crab in there. The edamame was horrendous, half were cold and other pieces looked not it had freezer burn. Probably won't be back as nothing blow me away. The stuffed flounder was cooked well the rice was a little off, too much extra chucks of veggies or something which was off putting. The grilled grouper serving felt small for $40, but it was cooked and seasoned well. The potatoes were yummy, felt there was more potato than the serving of fish. I enjoyed the creme brulee, it was a normal vanilla bean flavor with a strong sugar crust. The Gouda grits were nice too, good flavors all well cooked. We started off with sushi (Tiger and Volcano) and it was yummy! Then, I ordered " Pecan-Crusted Catfish" and my husband ordered "World-Famous Grits à Ya Ya." Loved the sushi and my husband's meal. He those shrimp are some of the best he has ever had! I however, did not like the brown butter sauce the put on my fried catfish... tasted weird and made my fish crust soggy and was all in my delicious Gouda grits. We came in on Saturday for dinner and thought we beat the crowd but forgot about graduations!!!! We had a hour wait but it was well worth it. Once we were seated, our server Rick was right there. He is pretty funny so ask for Rick on the weekends. He gave us some great ideas and we went with what he suggested. We had the Grits A Ya Ya and the Catfish Meuniere. The grits were probably some of the best we have had. They were creamy, smooth and cheesy all at the same time. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and made that dish rock. You walk in expecting fish (it's literally in the name), but somehow I ended up being lured -- talked into, really -- ordering the Five Sisters Fried Chicken, which came with the bold promise of being "the best fried chicken ever." Listen... I love confidence. Truly. But calling it the best ever is like calling me the next quarterback for the Saints. Optimistic? Yes. Accurate? Absolutely not. Don't get me wrong -- the chicken was good. It was tasty. It was tender. The kind of fried chicken that makes you nod and say, "Yeah, that's nice." But the bottom was a little soggy, like it briefly thought about becoming a biscuit and then abandoned the mission halfway. Best ever? Not today. Now -- the shrimp cocktails? Excellent. Cold, snappy, and fresh enough that I felt the need to apologize to the Gulf. And the outdoor environment? Stunning. Breezy, bright, and basically crafted for people who want to casually drop "We lunched waterfront today" into conversations. And then, as if the universe wanted to remind us that Pensacola loves a good moment, we were buzzed by a Blue Angels flyover. I don't care who you are -- that instantly elevates any lunch. This spot is unassuming -- almost deceiving based on appearances -- but don't judge a book by its cover. The food is GOOD. For example, the chicken tenders are seasoned to perfection. You can tell the marinade wasn't rushed. Flavor all the way through, not just on the surface. You will not go wrong with the Grits YaYa. Looking back at my previous review, I ordered it last time too. Normally I'd try something different, but I'm not even mad that I circled back for the same dish. That says a lot. We wanted to give a shoutout to Ricky at Fish House for the awesome service he gave us during our visit to Pensacola. We even talked to the manager, Nick, because we felt like Ricky deserved to be recognized. Ricky made the whole experience feel comfortable and genuine from the start. He was able to talk with my family in both Spanish and English, which honestly made everyone feel welcomed and included. He's very personable and easy to talk to, and you can tell he enjoys what he does. One thing we really appreciated was how attentive he was without being overbearing. He checked on us at all the right times, made sure everything was good, and never made us feel rushed or interrupted while we were enjoying our meal. He's also really knowledgeable about the menu and gave great recommendations whenever we had questions. We've had Ricky as our server before, and he's honestly one of the reasons we keep coming back. The food was great, and the view was even better, we sat on the back patio, and I loved how they had fans going to help with airflow and keep the flies away. Our server, Anthony, was awesome. There were nine of us, and he did a wonderful job keeping drinks filled and getting all our orders right without missing a beat. My mom did find a hair in her food, but we've all worked in the service industry before and know how things happen, we didn't make a big deal out of it. Still, I have to mention it, which is the only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five. I had the crab cakes for an appetizer, really good! The scampi was a bit watery but had that classic scampi flavor. The oysters were okay, but the stuffed crab meat flounder was great. I really appreciated how they used a lot of the same ingredients across dishes, it shows versatility and smart product use without compromising quality. This place lived up to expectations. It had a lot of reviews so I figured that there must be a reason that it was popular. We only had one night in Pensacola and had to make it count. I decided this would be the place to sample the local cuisine. We were a little nervous because it was a Saturday night at around 7:30 or 8ish. The outside was very inviting but they had a table available immediately inside. There is an aquarium which provided entertainment for me and some irritation for GF because I kept asking her to turn around and "look at that big one". Our server was excellent. She didn't keep us waiting for anything and checked in on us. They flattered us but asking us mid 30s broads for ID. I ordered the ?black cadillac and GF the regular, run of the mill margarita. I like the creativity with some of the drinks but my drink was basically a brick to the face with flavor. It was a little bit overwhelming. It would have been great watered down a smidge. I like flavors but it was too much syrup/mixer to the point where it was detrimental. Fortunately they have a very extensive beer menu that I was able to pluck something off of for my second drink. Their menu is also quite extensive but not in the how-could-they-do-anything-well kind of way. They had a lot of appealing appetizers, especially their collard dip which I probably would have ordered if it came with something other than pork rinds. I will say that I was VERY impressed by a few vegetarian/vegan options they kindly included! What a lovely surprise. I ordered a vegan entree, sweet potato curry, and it was better than I expected. It was really tasty. I ordered their pimento mac and cheese and this was absolute crack. I wish this came entree sized. GF started with half of a dozen butter and garlic oysters, she says, "outstanding". For her main, she ordered their famous grits a yaya she says "incredible" and then "I told you, I was really liking the seasoning, whatever seasoning they had in it". I snuck a few bites of the grits and they were phenomenal. If I was a lil less full I would have liked to try some dessert. Our food was too Salty and that is coming from two people who love salty food like chips. It was just really heavily salted. The view is great and the service was excellent. We had the grouper bites which were good. I opted for the shrimp and grits or grits Yaya, which was very salty and heavily covered with a cheese sauce. I felt the shrimp was a little overcooked and overly spiced so that they tasted really, really salty . My husband had a burger which he did really like, and he also liked his fries. I think something bothered us is we sat across from a waitress station andthe bottom of the refrigerator was falling out, and there was trash all over the floor. with the prices that they charge for their food. I don't want to waste time looking for places to eat or ending up at some lackluster place not with the time money or calories. The Fish House was recommended by three of my friends, plus every local I spoke to. This place was immediately added to my list! From what I understand, this place is an institution in Pensacola. They've been open for years serving up amazing meals to us every day folks along with local and national celebrities alike. We decided going for brunch would allow us a full experience. We had a very brief wait upon arrival. They offer both indoor and outdoor dining. Given the sweltering heat, inside table it was. Our server was great! She was well versed in the menu items and made good recommendations. Everyone I spoke to recommended their grits a ya ya. Given my quest to find the BEST shrimp and grits in the country, I had to try them. The shrimp are large gulf shrimp that are juicy and well seasoned. The grits themselves are rich and creamy and the Gouda added a well rounded flavor to the dish. In my opinion, the sauté of spinach and mushrooms were really unnecessary. The shallot, bacon and garlic were a nice salty balance with the grits. The other ingredients kinda got lost in the sauce if you will. Definitely an enjoyable meal that I would order again. We also tried some of the sushi. As I've shared before, I'd lived in Japan for over three years. I am very particular about my sushi. I was very impressed with the selection. I was even more impressed with the quality of the ingredients used in the rolls and pieces. The rice was the perfect texture and was just enough for a base. Nestled close to downtown, there's lots of things going on this time of year so take a stroll. They can definitely accommodate big groups. We ordered Florida oysters and poke to start. Loved the fresh salmon in the poke with wonton chips, pickled jalapeños, cucumber, sticky rice, and fish sauce. So yummy and fresh!! I know it's not really oyster season, BUT the Florida oysters were delicious. They were salty and a great starter for the night. For entree we ordered the Grits a Ya Ya, famous according to their menu & it was very tasty. They gave us crostinis, grilled shrimps, a healthy portion of grits with a yummy gravy sauce. I really loved this dish. The atmosphere was gorgeous with the docks in the background and right in the heart of downtown Pensacola.
