I don't even know where to start. Our group was in the area and none of us had eaten all day, we picked this place on a whim because it was close by and it did not disappoint. I think I genuinely had the best sandwich I've ever had in my life. The owner of the shop is the kindest and most entertaining person ever, he just wants you to have what your heart desires in a sandwich. The vibes were so warm and you can see the community and care he has built with all his regulars coming in. All of us left in high spirits and full tummies. Every time I've been to this place, it's been delicious & consistent. I never caught the owner's name but he's very generous with the community on Mission & makes you feel like you're at his house. There is one sandwich place which is the real sandwich place for decades in the San Francisco and is still open M-F ( Monday- Friday). The Sandwich Place on 16th street and Mission street has been a neighborhood favorite for decades from elementary to adulthood. The Sandwich Place ( not to be confused with the Sandwich Store) has been serving some good sandwiches from breakfast to lunch and has vegetarian options . I like going here for the lunch menu which is usually a hot pastrami sandwich and a delicious cold tuna sandwich. I got the savory Pastrami sandwich and it is still consistent to what I had over the years. The bread is soft and the warm pastrami is tender and tasty with melted provolone cheese and veggies for the crunch. There is limited seating outside which you can people watch and see some interesting things happening on Mission street. Now THAT, folks, is a good sammich. I went today following the Yelp reviews. I stood in a small line and instantly became amused at the guy behind the counter's bantering with customers (must be Juan?). When it was my turn I ordered a turkey and roast beef with everything. Glad he reminded me about jalapenos, which are mandatory in a good sammy. I went outside to the very limited seating on a warm December day and engulfed one of the better sandwiches I have ever had. Not sure why as I have had more than a few, but it is toasted perfectly, oozing with just the right amount of sauces and cheese and was just perfection. I won't be coming here any longer. It doesn't matter to me how good the food is. I'm not tolerating rude & egotistical behavior just for asking for a substitute for dairy. It's disappointing because I was excited to bring my partner here but the owner ruined our experience. I've been here about 3 times and the last time was an odd one. The first 2 times I came in alone, the owner was nice, a pretty loud person for it being like 8am but not that big of a deal. The last time, which was months ago but I vividly remember, I went in with my partner and we got different treatment. The owner was rude and condescending, especially to my partner who's a male. My partner tried to order a coffee and asked if they had some oatmilk cuz he doesn't drink dairy and he responded with "oatmilk? this isn't Starbucks. You can go to Starbucks for that". It was so rude and uncalled for. It's 2024, many people don't drink dairy, I don't either. All he could've said was "sorry no" but instead he chose to behave immaturely and treat us like we were stupid. Very poor customer service and rude business. Beware to not ask for a dairy substitute, or you'll be treated like you're stupid. read more

I came here on the way to Dolores Park. It's right next to the 16th Street BART Station! I didn't look at the menu beforehand, but I ordered the regular avocado and bacon sandwich. The man making my sandwich was very friendly, and he packed the sandwich with veggies, sauce and bacon. The bacon is thick and crispy at the same time and provided so much flavor. When I arrived, he saw me hop out of my double parked car (boyfriend was driving). He assumed correctly who I was and got my order ready before I even made it to the counter. He said he noticed I'm double parked and will quickly get me sorted so that I don't get a ticket. Quick and efficient...if you know me, you know I appreciate efficiency!! He (wish I got his name) was thoughtful and friendly. As soon as I got back into the car, my boyfriend said "whoa that was quick!" This was my first visit to The Sandwich Place.
