Quite possibly the best sandwich I've ever had and it was gluten free! From the moment I walked in, Juan welcomed me with a smile, recommended his favorite sandwich, and made sure my sammy/gluten-free bread came out perfectly. You can tell he genuinely cares about every sandwich he makes. What stood out most was Juan. He had me smiling and giggling the whole time I was there. The shop is in a busy part of the city(16th and mission), so all kinds of people come through. During my visit, a troubled man kept coming in and out, and I was genuinely impressed by how kind, patient, and respectful Juan was with him. It says a lot about the kind of person he is. He truly loves his community and it shows. I took my sandwich to the park, and after the first few bites I honestly wanted to walk back just to tell Juan how good it was. Like my mouth is still watering. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town. If you live nearby, you're lucky to have this place.

This is the spot to go if you want a great sandwich and some conversation with the owner. I got the Combo Specialty sandwich... mortadella, salami, bologna, and mortadella. Fresh bread, tons of meat, fresh veggies. The owner is as witty as his sandwiches are good. It's across the street from the 16th and Mission Bart.

Every time I've been to this place, it's been delicious & consistent. I never caught the owner's name but he's very generous with the community on Mission & makes you feel like you're at his house. He even opened up 30 minutes earlier than usual for me & my friends because he forgot to change the hours on here. I always get the Chorizo egg and cheese with lettuce, tomatoes, and banana peppers and it's always great.

Juan is The best in the bussines . Bread is always fresh, meat is stacked right, and everything tastes clean and on point. Nothing skimpy, nothing rushed. You get that classic sub shop feel but done the right way. The flavors hit every time

I just got a chicken bbq sandwich to go from here. I loved the sandwich. It was the most delicious sandwich I've ever had. The service was amazing. I can definitely see myself coming back here at some point. This is only a takeout place just to let everyone know. The ambiance of the place was really good too . I give them a 5 star review

I always wondered about the menu item the" Tree Hugger ". Never tried their very interesting Vegetarian menu

There are so many sandwich places in San Francisco. Sandwich places are everywhere from the corner stores to delicatessens . There is one sandwich place which is the real sandwich place for decades in the San Francisco and is still open M-F ( Monday- Friday). The Sandwich Place on 16th street and Mission street has been a neighborhood favorite for decades from elementary to adulthood. The Sandwich Place ( not to be confused with the Sandwich Store) has been serving some good sandwiches from breakfast to lunch and has vegetarian options . I like going here for the lunch menu which is usually a hot pastrami sandwich and a delicious cold tuna sandwich. I got the savory Pastrami sandwich and it is still consistent to what I had over the years. The bread is soft and the warm pastrami is tender and tasty with melted provolone cheese and veggies for the crunch. There is limited seating outside which you can people watch and see some interesting things happening on Mission street. Come here for the sandwiches like the pastrami, tuna, and roast beef Go to the real Sandwich Place in San Francisco on Mission street and 16th

Juan is the goat. My friends and I arrived an hour early not knowing he opens later on Saturday and he still let us inside to order. Portion sizes and taste definitely justify the price making it affordable. Good food, good portions, good humor. What more do you need. Even with a mask you know he's smiling with his eyes!

In search of a breakfast near where we were staying, I stumbled across this gem. The neighborhood is not the best, BUT this sandwich was made with love. The owner was such a nice guy. When we came in he was giving sandwiches to a couple of homeless guys; people like that are rare these days. I don't know if I'll ever be back, but I would support this business every day if I could.

Top notch sandwiches made to order. Old school sandwich shop atmosphere. Lines can be long at times, but it's worth the wait.

Owner is hella rude and spends more time talking to himself than actually helping customers. Quality is mid and overall overpriced.

Does this place ALWAYS close early.... it's 4 pm and the door is locked and gate closed?

Yes, they are notorious for closing as much as a half an hour early, and don't expect them to let you in even if you're a regular that is there twice a week.

This is probably the only place where the sandwiches don't taste like the store's essence…read more I mean, don't get me wrong, a store's essence from any given deli/liquor store definitely adds unique character to the sandwich and sometimes I want that in a sandwich. But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Service is good and ambiance is a small humble shop on the corner of 12th Ave.

Double pastrami, horseradish, havarti, lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, pickles, and pepperoncini. A lot going on, and it all came together. The horseradish and havarti gave it enough personality to stand apart from a standard pastrami sandwich, and the garlicky mayo tied everything together. The one casualty of DoorDash was sogginess by the time it arrived. That's not a knock on the sandwich, it's just the reality of ordering something like this for delivery. At $14.50 it's a hearty sandwich at a fair price. I'd recommend it, but eat in.
