It's a more than average corner store with some sandwiches and halva offerings but really, it's open later than most places, has an ATM, and has some very friendly people behind the counter. Finally got to try this deli after walking by it a million times when I get off the J. It's a nice corner store on 24th with everything you need, and a convenient deli on the other side! Major props to them for being open so late! With everything on 24th closing at 10pm, it's nice to know this place is open to cure my cravings. First off, the people who work here are so nice! Seems like a family owned store, and the guy making my sandwich was the best. Took his time to make my sandwich perfect and even gave me a lettuce wrap to munch on while waiting! The meat and cheese was sliced right before my eyes and piled HIGH on that Dutch crunch. I got turkey and pepper jack with everything on it. Loved the pepperocinis he added. For $6 you'd have to be crazy to not try this sandwich!!! With its great taste and size, it's such a steal. Used to go to Whole Foods to get my sandwiches, but those were $10!!! The only thing I can really say for the sandwiches here is that they're affordable at $6. They're nothing special though... just average, kind of bland deli sandwiches. The guy who helped me wasn't very friendly either. I got there and waited for 5 minutes while he ignored me and did other stuff behind the counter, without ever saying "I'll be right with you" or "just a minute" or anything. The sandwich was also a little awkward to carry home -- it was wrapped in plastic wrap and paper towels, and was leaking juice. What a major disappointment for a deli! My wife and I were going to be in the Noe Valley area since there was an art show at the Noe Valley Minisitry that afternoon. We thought that we would like a deli sandwich and I was charged to find one. So I consulted Yelp and Shufat's Market came up with all those 5 stars. Well, I thought this is it, we'll try it. By the time we got to the Ministry, I couldn't remember the address of Shufat's so I started walking westbound on 24th Street from Sanchez looking for it. I walked all the way to Diamond Street and couldn't find it. I even consulted with a woman who works at the CSAA office on 24th St. She claimed to know all the businesses in the area, but she had never heard of Shufat's. So I started back and as I approached Sanchez, I decided to walk eastbound a couple of more blocks and finally found it near the SE corner of 24th/Church. There appeared to be two doors, but one was blocked and I entered the other door and spoke to the man behind the counter whether he sold sandwiches. He said that they made sandwiches around the corner. So I walked around this glass counter and saw nothing but a mess. One would normally have a perception of a deli counter with displays of fresh meat , cheeses, and salads and a board listing prices. This had neither. The glass display counter was cloudy and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I couldn't even find a sign about sandwiches, what they charge, and the selection. There was nothing displayed and it was only 3PM. I noticed that the place is mostly a neighborhood market and not very clean at that. I walked back to the Bell Market a few blocks away and that is a world of difference. It was clean and orderly. I don't know why anybody would shop at Shufat's - it looked like a nightmare for the Health Dept. Granted I didn't try to order any sandwiches, but if you saw what I did you wouldn't either as there plenty of other delis nearby. If I drastically missed somehting, please let me know. read more

This place is my go-to when it comes to needing anything! I live a block away from Shufat and since it is open all the time, you can imagine that I spent a great deal (wayyyy too much) time in here. The people behind the counter are the sweetest, most genuinely loving, caring and respectful people that you will ever meet. Like any convenience store, the prices are well... heavier, but I have no problem paying them. Possibly bc of the convenience of it, possibly bc I genuinely LOVE the people that work there. I am always greeted by a smile and have a chance to chit-chat with the owner about a long workday or exciting weekend coming up. I work in this neighborhood and visit shufat at least once a day, more than often it's 3 to 5 times a day. sometimes just to visit the lovely employees that are a big part of the community. It's amazing how many names they remember and also the extra steps these guys go to make they're store stand out. the best part for me is the enormous handmade sandwiches. plenty of meat and cheese options, choice of roll or various breads. no extra charge for anything and the price out the door is $4.95! the world needs more convenient stores like shufat. they're my friends, not my local liquor store attendants. read more

But the older guy who is usually there is not an honest man. Why is it every time he charges me for anything I pay more than I do when the young lady (Christina?) or his brother rings me up? Always. One day kept my money and said I didn't give it to him. Yes! I counted out my money and was momentarily distracted, when I turned and faced the cash register gain he had the nerve to tell me that I still owed him $10 for my purchases. I've purchased some last minute breakfast items from this place: banana's eggs, ice cream. Since its a local corner store, it's not cheap. Wow, Shufat's! We lived on Elizabeth St. a block away from Shufats when it first opened in the early 70's, so it was the go-to store for the neighborhood. Young James and his siblings worked the register back then, while their father sat up top on the balcony keeping the business in order. Now, 35+ years later, James is up top, while the next generation keeps the customers happy. Great little family success story; great little store! Simply put - this place is like Cheers (the bar) all wrapped up in a freaking corner store...and yep, you're going to feel like Norm. Go here for the sandwich counter...I'm serious! They make some fantastically large & tasty sandwiches for cheap. Omar - you're easily one of the coolest sandwich making dudes I've talked to in a long time. In the process of making a sandwich, I learned this place is a 35 year old (whoa) family business, Omar lives upstairs, and his cousin lives next door. Also, I was taught the correct way to massage BBQ sauce into my grilled chicken, and other amazing sandwiches that I had to come back and try the next time. While Omar is making my food, he's feeding me slices of cheese, and samples of the chicken to see if it is properly done yet...*love* it. Did I mention that this was my first time in here? I can only imagine what would happen if you are a local :). Oh yeah, did I mention the sandwich was only $5?! I used to live upstairs, so yes, the Shufats are nieghbors as well as friends - but this is just the best Mom and Pop and brother and brother and brother and cousin store in the world... oh, and uncle and friend and another cousin. Even though grocery stores are generally cheaper (except Bell/Gala, of course, but who shops there anyway?) I think we save money because we run out of something and buy just what we need - plus ice cream - at Shufat. They stock cheese and great guacamole dip and snacks and lots of EANABs (Equally Attractive Non-Alcholic Beverages), five kinds of Mexican beer, and organic eggs. Also soup and both Annie's and Kraft Mac n' Cheese. What more could you want? OK, you could want produce, but just go next door... donuts? go the other way, Omar and the whole crew are the nicest people in the world - really. And let them know if you have a nice finance/business job available - one of the brothers just finished a degree at SF State. My husband told the Shufats he was going to ask me to marry him before my parents, if that gives you a sense... I lived at 23rd and Church Streets for seven years. My husband, (at the time,) my children, and I considered Shufat the best corner store we'd ever known. During the years that we lived there, the number and variety of items offered in the store expanded greatly. In the middle of the night, I could walk a block from my home and purchase what I needed. I don't like leaving negative reviews, especially when the service is good. I came here because I wanted a simple and cheap deli sandwich. The positive yelp reviews drew me in further. I ordered a turkey sandwich (they were out of the peppered turkey I wanted). Everything appeared fine and the man making the sandwich was super friendly. Got the sandwich, which was poorly wrapped in plastic and things were learning out. I was too hungry and in a rush to turn back and ask for a bag or something. I walked to Dolores park and found a perfect shady spot to sit on. I was disappointed from the first bite. The bread was stale as can be. The tomato was discolored and mushy and tasted anything but fresh. I hate hate hate wasting food. But it was leaking all over me and i couldn't eat another bite. I fed the rest of the stale bread to some birds (I know, shame on me) and tossed the rest away (again it made me really sad to waste food) Maybe I caught them on a bad day. But they need to keep better track of the freshness of their food. I would be embarrassed to serve stale bread. I don't think I'll be back. 2 stars because the dude was nice. read more

I find it funny that I'm reviewing a corner store, but hey, this one kind of deserves it. This is my neighboorhood store. I stop in practically every morning for my hangover-juice (VitaminWater, all the way!) and cigarettes. This place is exactly what I dreamed of having in my neighborhood as a teenager wanting to live in a bigger city. The guy who's usually behind the counter greets me and asks me how I'm doing every time I'm there. He remembers small things about me, like the fact that I have two jobs, and that I have a new puppy who drives me absolutely insane. We always have a brief conversation, he wishes me well, and I'm on my way. Where I grew up, all of the convenience stores I frequented never had that "neighborhood feel". I like being remembered, or, at the very least, I like my brand of cigarettes being remembered. They have a few grocery items (mostly those "Uh oh. I forgot to pick up _____ at the store" items, which is really convenient). They also have a nice juice/drink selection.. from Kombucha to Redbull to Odwalla. Yay for variety! read more

The guys who work here are pretty nice. Especially the guy who made my sandwich. The sandwich was pretty good, but this isn't a world class deli. Not a ton of variety or choices, but I admit the sandwich was good. If you live really close this wouldn't be a bad place to pop over to. Probably not worth the trip if you live a ways away. There are better sandwich places in the city. Although, pretty good price, $5.00 for a good size sandwich. As to the market portion, they have quite a variety of items and the prices aren't that bad. This is my regular "around the corner" convenience store, and as a result I am in here with quite some regularity. Some weeks I am in there everyday, and sometimes multiple times per day. They have an excellent EVERYTHING selection, especially beer. They have some pretty exotic stuff from all over the world, and I am easily able to get my 500 ml imported German beers. The brothers who work the counter and super friendly, and after getting to know me, often let me slide when I am a few cents short.
