Now, in this part of the city, parking will be a challenge so be patient and prepare to walk a few blocks to this joint. The place is busy and customers come in ebbs and flows. I happen to walk in during a slow time, but immediately started lining up with people behind me. I told the owner, "Adonis sent me here" and she smiled and nodded. We were in SF for the weekend and made a point to visit Newkirk's. We ordered a bacon egg and cheese (BEC), a Pastrami egg and cheese (PEC), an orange juice and an iced coffee The sandwiches came on a soft warm Kaiser roll that was excellent. The BEC's bacon was crispy and the egg was nicely cooked. All this with some bright orange hot sauce combined to make a pretty epic breakfast sandwich. I had a bite of the PEC and it was equally good. Iced coffee was also very good and the orange juice was kid approved. Service was quick and friendly and it was quiet and comfortable on the Friday morning we visited. DELICIOUS. first time i got the horse on the roof, second time i got an SEC (on a french roll). both hit. turnover is pretty quick, so don't be discouraged if you can't immediately grab a seat. although takeout is also a good option. they ferment their hot sauces in-house. you get one small container of each! the green is my favorite, but both are yummy and spicy. i usually interchange between the two while eating anyway lol. lots left on the menu that i want to try, so will be back again soon! read more

The hasbrown bacon egg and cheese comes with a perfect ratio of housemade pepper jelly. The classic BEC is an awesome standard to set. My husband chose your restaurant today, after a less than stellar experience following an influencer's recommendation on Instagram some time ago. Naturally, I was hesitant, but after his insistence, I agreed to give it a try. The interior didn't quite win me over initially; it felt a bit cold, and the seating was uncomfortable. However, I must commend the lady behind the counter--she was absolutely wonderful and made a positive impression during our visit. In my rush, I didn't have the time to really look at your menu photos, as I usually do, since I'm quite a visual eater. My husband ordered the Horse on the Roof, while I chose the BEC, simply because it was the first thing I saw. When my order arrived, I wasn't initially attracted to it visually and, admittedly, I judged it by its appearance--contrary to the advice my mother always gave me. Despite my annoyance and skepticism, upon taking a bite of the BEC, I found it delicious! I scarfed it down quickly and am already thinking I might try adding an extra egg & maybe hashbrowns next time to see how that changes the flavor. Came in around 10:30am on a Friday. Lots of people coming and going! I was visiting my grandma at the general hospital right across the street! I asked the cashier what do you recommend and stated i don't eat pork. She recommended #5, steak and eggs on French roll. It was pretty pricey(with tax $18.42) it was good, I only ate half. Came here because TikTok. And may I say that for what we ate that morning, which was the hash brown sandwich, I would be going back. The sandwich was warm, tasty, and had a nice kick to it from the cherry peppers. Their orange hot sauce added another layer of flavor profile. Went on a Saturday morning around 1:00 and there was a line almost out the door. The line flowed nicely though and it probably took about 15 minutes total to wait in line, order food, and then for the food to come out. There is seating room (not too big, but a good amount of open chairs) and there were two pinball machines. I got the Hashbrown Sandwich togo and it was delicious. The bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy. The ketchup and hash browns balanced out the heat from the jalapeños. The sandwich also comes with two hot sauces. The green was more mild and was absolutely delicious. The sandwiches are hefty, there's a lot of options no matter if you're vegetarian or a meat eater, the bread is soft, the cheese is melty, the service is friendly, and the sauces are HOT. Maybe not crazy hot but the carrot sauce.is my go to here. They're pretty chill for breakfast time but be ready for a busy experience when you come around lunchtime because they're always poppin'! My favorite thing about eating here is the decor and Im speaking of the retro pinball machines specially, theyre random but I'd be lying if i said i didn't obsess over them. I love this spot! Bacon egg and cheese on the poppy roll every time. Their green and orange sauce is flavorful too. My husband always gets the pastrami egg and cheese and won't shut up about how flavorful it is. It's a small spot with a few cool pinball machines that you can play while you wait. I recommend calling ahead to have your order ready when you get there. I think there closed on Sunday's so that would be the only downside to this place. read more

I was driving through this part of city, and saw the Newkirk's building and the words cheesesteak so I knew I had to add to my must try list, and decided to give it a go. Since it was my first time, I went with their cheesesteak and got a sausage breakfast sandwich. The surprise winner between the two was the breakfast sandwich! The poppy seed Kaiser roll was baked to perfection and overall, this was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a really long time. I've been thinking about it ever since I went last week. They have a wide selection of fried egg breakfast sandwiches, and definitely will be back for more. The cheesesteak was good but can't dethrone my top spot in my personal power rankings but id say it's in the Top 3. Whatever bread they use is really good, crunchy yet soft. They really excel at the bread here. I think next time I'd opt out of the bell peppers bc that flavor was too dominant and was pretty much all I could taste. The amount of meat is decent, but I'd probs order double meat next time. They had a couple different hot sauces to pour onto your sandwiches, and between the two, their orange sauce (I think habanero) was very tasty and added a nice kick. I'm not sure why this place doesn't get more attention. One of the best things I've eaten this year was the pastrami, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich with house made hot sauce from here. Everything about it is perfect - the soft poppyseed Kaiser roll, the salty pastrami, the gooey cheese, and the hard fried egg all mesh together in such a great way. In my opinion, this is easily one of the best no fuss (and no dry biscuit) breakfast sandwiches in the city. Beyond the fantastic breakfast sandwiches, the service here is typically really friendly too. They seem to go out of their way to be helpful. Although the ambiance is pleasant overall, the shop itself is very small with just a few tables. The location is immediately adjacent to the General as well, so parking can be tough. I definitely recommend ordering takeout online beforehand to save some time. I wish they were on DoorDash so that I could order more often! read more

Was super excited to try.. got the horse on the roof and the hash brown breakfast sandwich. For 36$ for two sandwiches, it wasn't worth it. In the hash brown sandwich, there was barely any hash brown and it wasn't crispy. The horse on the roof was okay, not a lot of steak and the flavors just weren't there, the hot sauces were mild as well. Wish it would have been a better experience, but I will not order those two again. Going to try their Philly and pastrami lunch sandwiches next time.
