My kid playing some pinball while we waited.
    Marc S.

We were in SF for the weekend and made a point to visit Newkirk's. We ordered a bacon egg and cheese (BEC), a Pastrami egg and cheese (PEC), an orange juice and an iced coffee The sandwiches came on a soft warm Kaiser roll that was excellent. The BEC's bacon was crispy and the egg was nicely cooked. All this with some bright orange hot sauce combined to make a pretty epic breakfast sandwich. I had a bite of the PEC and it was equally good. Iced coffee was also very good and the orange juice was kid approved. Service was quick and friendly and it was quiet and comfortable on the Friday morning we visited. If you're in SF be sure to go here for a breakfast sandwich and play some pinball while you wait. 9/10 Thanks!

DELICIOUS. first time i got the horse on the roof, second time i got an SEC (on a french roll). both hit. turnover is pretty quick, so don't be discouraged if you can't immediately grab a seat. although takeout is also a good option. they ferment their hot sauces in-house. you get one small container of each! the green is my favorite, but both are yummy and spicy. i usually interchange between the two while eating anyway lol. lots left on the menu that i want to try, so will be back again soon!

No frills breakfast option. Has cheesesteaks and other specialty sandwiches and salad as well. Service is pretty fast even when crowded as only one person was working cashier and taking phone orders - order at counter and wait for your name to be called, tall and low tables to sit at + self service water! Hashbrown sandwich had a perfectly cooked egg and crispy hashbrowns. Carrot ginger soup I would come back for - oddly tasted like tikka masala sauce! BEC was classssssic.

Awesome east coast deli vibes (highest compliment from a native East Coaster) with fresh Kaiser rolls and subs for breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The house fermented hot sauce is a clear winner. The hasbrown bacon egg and cheese comes with a perfect ratio of housemade pepper jelly. The classic BEC is an awesome standard to set. Fun variations of BEC and other classic sando's, with funky names like Horse on the Roof, a nod to their quirky decor outside. Coffee is from Ritual, not my favorite roaster but if you're a fan, solid option. They've made good use of the small space, offering plenty of seating for cozy, Saturday morning in NY deli vibes. Can't wait to go back!

Subject: Feedback on Our Recent Visit Dear NEWKIRKS Team, I wanted to share my recent experience at your establishment. My husband chose your restaurant today, after a less than stellar experience following an influencer's recommendation on Instagram some time ago. Naturally, I was hesitant, but after his insistence, I agreed to give it a try. The interior didn't quite win me over initially; it felt a bit cold, and the seating was uncomfortable. However, I must commend the lady behind the counter--she was absolutely wonderful and made a positive impression during our visit. In my rush, I didn't have the time to really look at your menu photos, as I usually do, since I'm quite a visual eater. My husband ordered the Horse on the Roof, while I chose the BEC, simply because it was the first thing I saw. When my order arrived, I wasn't initially attracted to it visually and, admittedly, I judged it by its appearance--contrary to the advice my mother always gave me. Despite my annoyance and skepticism, upon taking a bite of the BEC, I found it delicious! I scarfed it down quickly and am already thinking I might try adding an extra egg & maybe hashbrowns next time to see how that changes the flavor. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his sandwich as well, and he especially appreciated your little sauces. I don't typically use sauces, so I didn't try them. Thank you for the great food and kind service. We look forward to visiting again. Best regards, Robertta Anoa'i-Morales

breakfast sandwiches, regular sandwiches, and salads in an open, breezy and casual storefront! a good amount of seating + bathroom, but it seems like most people grab & go. they also have pinball machines inside which is fun! BEC was on this super soft buttered roll, with tons of melty cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. the perfect bite... just so savory & rich, warm, soft, and lightly sweet. they ferment their own hot sauce which was GAS both of the sauces are delicious!! my only complaint is the bun to filling ratio is a little off. too much bun. but still delicious... also plus points because the FOH worker, anna, was super sweet! so helpful and very efficient & speedy :)

Came in around 10:30am on a Friday. Lots of people coming and going! I was visiting my grandma at the general hospital right across the street! I asked the cashier what do you recommend and stated i don't eat pork. She recommended #5, steak and eggs on French roll. It was pretty pricey(with tax $18.42) it was good, I only ate half. For a bkfst sandwich, I think it could have been a bit cheaper. I would like to come back to try other stuff on the menu!

Came here because TikTok. And may I say that for what we ate that morning, which was the hash brown sandwich, I would be going back. The sandwich was warm, tasty, and had a nice kick to it from the cherry peppers. Their orange hot sauce added another layer of flavor profile. They also serve Ritual coffee and have some fresh juices at hand. Service was friendly and quick and there's plenty of open tables to enjoy their fantastic sandwiches.

Went on a Saturday morning around 1:00 and there was a line almost out the door. The line flowed nicely though and it probably took about 15 minutes total to wait in line, order food, and then for the food to come out. There is seating room (not too big, but a good amount of open chairs) and there were two pinball machines. I got the Hashbrown Sandwich togo and it was delicious. The bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy. The ketchup and hash browns balanced out the heat from the jalapeños. The sandwich also comes with two hot sauces. The green was more mild and was absolutely delicious. The orange was also very yummy but a little too spicy for me, but my spice loving friend said she wanted to bottle it up to keep forever bc it was so good. Overall 4.5/5 stars!!

I saw Newkirk's on one of Adonis's videos on Instagram and decided I wanted to try it the next time I was in the city. I got the Horse on the Roof, my wife got the Hashbrown Sandwich, and my son got the SEC(not pictured because he was hungry and scarfed it down haha) The woman working behind the counter was super friendly and reminded me of things I normally would've forgotten on a to-go order like napkins and sauces lol The habanero-carrot sauce was good but the green sauce (tomatillo-jalepeno I think?) was a showstopper. It had such good flavor even if it was a little less spicy than the orange sauce. Definitely stopping by again when I'm in the area.

I only have one stomach, what should I order here?

You really can't go wrong with anything on their menu. I'm partial to the BLT (add avo) but my coworkers rave about the cheesesteak and order the turkey sandwiches on the regular. They may also have daily specials on their board.

Is this really the best cheesesteak in San Francisco? Like, should I bother? Because the already…

Best in the city is debatable. Also because I like the one on Buchanan and Lombard...but they make a pretty damn good sandwich overall. It's worth a shot or even go and to buy a sando for a nurse across the street

Any plans to open on the weekends again? Was part of our weekend routine and showed up today to find it closed!

They are definitely open on weekends now! I went on a Saturday recently.

I came with a group of 7, and they were able to seat us pretty quickly. We ordered: A whole rotisserie chicken, the RTR Rice Bowl, the Chicken soup, the fried chicken sandwich, the seared broccoli, the rotisserie fat rice, and the shredded cabbage & almond. Best Dishes: The Rotisserie chicken and the Shredded cabbage & almond. The rotisserie chicken skin is really crispy and delicious, we were all fighting over who gets to eat the skin. The chicken is so juicy, it's really the best rotisserie chicken I've had. We understand why this place is so well regarded. The shredded cabbage is definitely the best side and we should've gotten another order, as we quickly finished ours and were basically licking the bowl clean. Worst: The rotisserie fat rice and the chicken soup. The rice was basically untouched and none of us wanted to eat it. It's ok, just falls short compared to the other sides. The soup was also ok, it's just a huge bowl and it felt like a waste stuffing ourselves with that when there were other better dishes. The rice bowl was pretty good, and is really good value. It's yummy and a good meal for 12.50. It's a very casual place, you order at the cashier and find a table and seat yourself there. Great for a quick lunch.

Never a moment where old dishes or cups were sitting on the table. To eat, my friend and I had the sweet potato, baked potato, quarter chicken (dark meat), artichoke, brussel sprouts, and the sorbet : ) 1. Sweet potato was sweet and flavorful 2. Baked potato was good but needed extra salt or butter to really jazz it up. 3. Quarter chicken was sooo juicy and flavorful 4. Artichoke needed some level of salt to even out the heavy lemon but well cooked nonetheless 5. Brussel sprouts were flawless 6. The sorbet is amazing! It's how I expect strawberry ice cream to taste but lighter and fresher. Overall, would I come back? Absolutely Would I recommend it to a friend? Already done lol
