After several disappointments by other window companies, I was very pleased to hire Screen Shop because of their respect to the project and their competitive bid. After Joe's initial walk through of my home and reviewing the product line, I hired them the first day and wrote the security deposit. Here are the results of this window replacement project: - Eight Milguard Tuscany replacement windows - One Milguard replacement patio glass door - Six wood wraps (inside casing) - Total Cost: $7,960.00 (includes material and labor). The security deposit was $3,320.00 Time of Completion: Two days. The first day they removed five windows and replaced them. Second day, they removed and replaced the three remaining and installed the new wood wraps. Another team arrived and replaced the patio door. Attention to detail: SUPREME! They cleaned up their mess and ensured that each installation was going to be a "get it done the first time" hit. Customer Service: SUPREME! They answered all my questions concerning energy savings and maintenance on my awesome Milguard windows. Would I recommend them: HELL YEAH! This is a family owned business that has been around for 60 years. Their Joe's father started the business back in 1945 so if there's ever a problem, their shop is in San Jose. This is very important to me. If there's ever a problem, I can trust that Screen Shop will stand behind their services and products. They came as a recommendation from my friend at work - no complaints, all compliments. Why did I choose Milguard? Supreme quality, outstanding warranty, and manufacturer reputation. I did a lot of homework and personally called Milguard and shared my project with them. At the same time, I tested other manufacturers on their warranty standpoint and reliability. After four months of research and meeting with other window dealers, Milguard was ranked higher by my requirements and expectations. This is one of my big investments for the year, so I did everything to ensure my ROI was going to be solid. Most buyers would think I spent too much, but remember I also paid for their reliability....Screen shop is in San Jose and an authorized dealer and repair shop. Most of the other window companies haven't been around too long to stand behind their products and services. So think about it. Should I call these other window companies that advertise through the postal junk mail? HELL NO! Beware of them. I had gone through the agony of meeting with them and listening to all their fear factor sales pitch. Based on my review, each sales rep is not an installer. They talk a big game, but never actually did any hands on work. They'll bring out several window samples and use every trick in the sales book to get you to write that first check. Don't give them the time and day - especially when they stress about how their "discounted" price is the best in the market. I got so irritated by their "its 20% off only for today" statements - they work on commission. Most importantly, these reps are working for outside general contractors -which means that you're not getting any technical support if something happens to your new windows. Great customer service. After being laughed at by three window companies for asking them to come out and give me an estimate to replace one window I decide to call The Screen Shop, which is right down the street from my work. I called and was greeted by a friendly voice and when I asked her if they had a window minimum she said of course not. Wow, just what I wanted to hear. She made me an appointment to have someone come out and take a look. The owners son came out and told me that my window still had some life left but he would be happy to give me an estimate. He was aware of my condo associations rules since he had done one in our complex before and so I didn't have to explain that to him. He was fast, very informative and I was impressed that he didn't try to sell me something I did not need. I got a really good vibe from him. My husband had him give us a quote on the rest of the house since we would really like to have them all replaced and John was happy to do that. He explained all of the window options and pros and cons of each and what would be best suited for our needs. We walked outside and took a look at some of the other window jobs in our complex and he explained to me the difference between some of them and one that was done wrong by his standards and by our condo association also. We have not had our window replaced by this company yet but I was so wowed by them just coming out that they are getting five stars already. I will update when the job is done. By the way this company is family owned and has been since 1945, it seems like the whole gang is still there, dad, sisters and brothers. I love that! UPDATE: They installed our one window and it looks great. They were super fast, on time, very professional. I just finished replacing all of the windows and two patio doors in my home with new ones ordered from The Screen Shop. To be honest, I can't say enough good things about the process and if there was a way to do it I would give them more than five stars! From the time I entered their showroom, they were friendly and helped me to select the best product for my needs. They have incredible knowledge of the products they sell and can guide you to exactly what you need. They are also flexible in fine-tuning the order to any changes in the types of window you need or specialty glass. And if there are any issues with the order or the install they work directly with the manufacturer to make sure these issues are addressed. The contractor they work with for the install also does an excellent job. I couldn't be happier with his workmanship. They left a clean job site every day and made sure that the house was secure before wrapping up for the day. I called these people on the recommendation of one of their longtime customers seven years ago to replace all of my windows. A nice gentleman came out and took measurements etc. but a few days later they decided that they wouldn't take my job because I had 2nd story windows and they didn't want to do the scaffolding. Thinking I would give them a 2nd chance I called again 2 years later and asked for a quote and visit to replace my patio screen door with pet fabric. I was put on a waiting list as I could only do this on the weekends and never heard back from them. I called the Mobile Screen guys a few weeks later and had my new pet screened door within a week. These guys were very quick and professional. We needed our screen doors rescreened in order to sell our condo since it had a doggie door in it. They said they do not do house calls for screen doors so we dropped it off on Monday, said it would be done by Thursday and it was actually completed a day early on Wednesday. Purchased several replacement windows from them, as my old ones were difficult to open and had seals broken. Decided new vinyl ones would be better. The father of the family run business came out, measured, and made suggestions for the best choice for my needs. Out of three bids they were able to come close to the lowest so I hired this company. Windows are great. The people who own the business are pleasant to work with, however the installers rubbed me the wrong way. They complained about access for one window (there was a bush in front of it) and were one man short and had to wait for another helper to come to put in a larger window. I did not appreciate the installer who called me on the carpet for not cutting away the bush, I did not realize it would be a problem. Otherwise the business is a good one, and you would not go wrong using them. I need two more windows and will most likely use their company again. read more

Just had a screen door (swing out) with a pet door installed by the Screen Shop. I originally received a price quote from another place that had great reviews on yelp but the quote was high. Decided to try out the Screen Shop and the quote I received from Joe was in line with what I wanted to pay. It was a good bill and half cheaper than the other quote. I originally made an appointment to have my patio door measured and that appointment actually took 2 weeks. I had a 12pm window. The day came and I received a call from Joe who said he'd be late as he was running late. Nice of him to call to let me know. He came by, measured my door, had some concerns that the screen door handle may barely fit as it may rest closely against the patio door handle. Since his price quote came in lower than the other place I paid 50% deposit up front. A week later I receive a call saying my screen door was ready to be installed. I setup an appointment with a 12 to 1pm window. Again the installer ran late and actually arrived at 1pm but didn't bring everything up till 1:30pm. Good thing I have a flexible job and it was a Friday. Two hours later the installer tells me that he's having trouble with installing the door stops and does not want to continue working on something he's not comfortable with. He said a senior tech would stop by Sat morning to finish the job. I was cool with his honesty and didn't have a problem with that. He also pointed out that the screen door had a minor tear, after I examined it I decided it wasn't worth waiting for a new door and just put on a small strip of clear shipping tape to cover the tear. The senior tech arrives when he said he would and basically took two hours to install the screen door. Everything was professionally done, he even swept up afterward even though I offered to clean up. The only thing that was a little disappointing was that the screen door handle prevents me from locking the patio door, the initial concern Joe had when he first came to do measurements. It's not a great concern but nothing really I could do after that point, just a minor annoyance at this point since the screen door can't be closed all the way when the patio door is locked. Just a tad off. My other gripe, no ones fault, is that the pet door seems to be mostly for a dog. My cat is still not used to pushing through the rubber door as it's a little heavy and has magnets to snap shut against the screen door. The guys are great, they gave the best quote and did the job to completion. Very professional. I'd recommend them and use them for future jobs. YMMV with them being on time but they do call and let you know if they're running late. read more

The Screen Shop is great. I had tears and bent frames associated with windows that were installed 20+ years ago. The manufacturer no longer sells new screens, so luckily, I was referred to them. We just had an appointment this morning with John (3rd generation owner) of The Screen Shop and he was the best. I had set the appointment back in mid-September and I could tell that business for them must have been good because I didn't get an appointment until today. Also, their project leads who do the work estimates rotate their Saturdays so they're quite busy. Well, John was nice enough to call me yesterday to confirm our appointment and let me know that he might be a tad bit late. I really appreciated him informing me of this. He came this morning and wasn't that late at all. He got right down to business in explaining the types of windows they use, and got a feel for what exactly it is in what we were looking for. John was totally professional, courteous, and humorous, which impressed my husband and I. The estimate was AMAZING! We had originally gotten quotes from Home Depot and Sears, and let's just say that The Screen Shop blew those two quotes clear out of my mind to even be considered. We haven't gotten the final estimate yet, but we know in our hearts that we're going with this family owned and run business for sure. Update to come as soon as we get the work done. read more

We had made up our mind to go with Milgard's. That was the easy part, finding the right place to get them was hard till I saw the reviews of Screen Shop on Yelp. By then I had shopped in a couple of places referred by friends. I was pretty disappointed by the service level. Joe Salameda III of the Screen Shop personally came down and measured all the windows (11 in all, including 2 giant windows). He gave several recommendations such as buy new windows instead of replacement windows because they come with a lifetime warranty for broken glass. Another useful suggestion he had was that instead of getting three separate windows (a picture + 2 casement), he suggested that perhaps I could get them all assembled into a single window at the factory instead of my contractor having to hang them all at our house. This made the quality higher and installation easier without increasing the price. Joe's price quote was awesome. He hands down beat all the other bids including one from the internet. Purchased a screen door for my over-sized front door. Went to the Home Depot first, and when they couldn't get what we wanted, thought we'd be paying a premium for The Screen Shop. Not the case! I opted to install myself, and since I needed some advice, I also went back with two pieces that needed to be trimmed. I've been a member of yelp since 2006 and this is my first yelp review. That alone should tell you that I highly recommend these guys. I've had some windows at my house that I've been having some issues with i.e- not staying up, not closing correctly, etc and I've been putting it off for the longest time. My windows came with a lifetime warranty but of course, only for the first owner. I found The Screen Shop on yelp and I scheduled an appointment for them to come out and take a look at my windows. John came out and not only fixed my problems, but he gave me tons of information on what was wrong, how to fix them, how to maintain them - everything I needed to know! I know that he could have easily told me that something more was wrong, and I wouldn't have known any better, but I really appreciated his honestly and knowledge (unlike my car dealership, but that's another review!) I would definitely go to The Screen Shop again and recommend them to anyone needing any window repair / replacement. read more

I have had several screen re-screened over the course of about three visits. They do great work and the price is reasonable. I brought my screens in. I think for an extra charge, they will come to your house. Large variety of screen choices. I got the pet screen because we have a dog and it reduces the light and heat that hits the window. They have 2 or 3 people working the front office, so you may encounter a wait on a Saturday morning. Oh yeah, they are open on Saturday mornings. Another plus. They are a little tricky to find, but just follow the signs from Coleman near the airport. read more

Best service ever! We have a screen security door on the back of our house which has been there for at least 10 years. The doorknob and deadbolt have never worked well. Tim came out and realigned the mechanisms. It work perfectly now! He also put up new screens on our sliding glass doors. He wore a mask the entire time, incredibly polite. We needed to get a couple of bent screens fixed urgently (yep it happens ;)) and needed them fixed in a day. We didn't think anyone would be able to help us but the amazing folks at the screen shop were totally up for it! We dropped off the screens in the afternoon and they were ready for us the next day. I am upping our review to 4 stars based on the fact that our installation was completed in a timely and high quality manner. The installers showed up 5 min early to get working on the front door screen installation, and the whole job was completed in less than 30 minutes. The installers cleaned up after themselves, were very friendly, and did a wonderful job. I've had my downstairs windows in for almost a year. These are great looking windows. Total of eight windows. I set up the appointment. Got a call from John before he arrived. A couple of the windows were going to be completely removed rather than replaced. John helped me figure out what the kind of windows would look good in the two spaces. I couldn't be happier with the results. My kitchen looks so much better and brighter with the new windows. Had two appointments to install the windows. One for the replacement and the other for the new windows and skylight. Both times the crew from The Screen Shop and Christoffersen Construction were awesome! They did a great job with 6 screens for my Eichler sliding doors, which were old, bent, and had holes due to cats trying to claw their way out. Reasonable prices, and they did a far better job than I could have done myself! They picked them up and delivered 6 days later (for an extra fee), which was worth it because it made replacing screens during Covid lockdown easy. Kept me informed by phone, too. Would definitely choose them again! read more

These guys are fantastic. Their prices were very good, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the service was excellent. They are backlogged quite a bit (because the quality you get for the price is solid), so expect to wait a few months to get in, but if you have the time, it's worth it. We were on a quest to reduce highway noise in our bedrooms. We had a few Milgard windows and a sliding door we wanted to replace. I tried most of the glass/window shops in the area, and no one seemed to know anything about sound reduction. John Salamida (at the Screen Shop), on the other hand, who came out to give us the estimate, knew a lot - about all of it. Most other shops wanted us to install a whole new door and/or windows, at 3-4x the cost (there would have been a lot of stucco work as well). But John recommended we just pop in better glass, and that's what we did. We ordered the glass and are absolutely thrilled with the results. We went from 1/8" + 1/8" (double pane), to 1/8" + 7/32" laminated (double pane). The lamination worked wonders - sound is so much better absorbed now. I also suspect that the dissimilar glass thicknesses, and the one pane being thicker, also helped. (Note: If you have severe sound problems, you can also try blowing more cellulose insulation into your attic, above bedrooms; we also did this and it also helped immensely.) I'd recommend getting all of the other glass upgrades, as they will pay off in the long run. We got argon gas in the air gap, to reduce heat loss; suncoat[max] to reduce solar heat gain (the green is unnoticeable from the inside, even on the MAX version); and EdgegardMax (to reduce risk of condensation, to which one of the old windows had succumbed). John also recommended replacing the sliding door track and wheels with a modern version, since ours was an older (worse) design and was also quite worn-and-torn. This was awesome advice. Despite having ~35% heavier glass in the door now, it slides about 3 times easier than before! (And I had used dry silicon lube on the old track.) We ended up with massively quieter windows and a door that slides ~3x easier. We couldn't be happier. Total cost: $3,840, but that includes installation, the new wheels and track, and all the upgrades on all of the glass. read more

I took 8 window screens and 2 sliding door screens to be re-screened. After 18 years, they were looking pretty worn. In addition, the pull tabs used to remove the screens from their tracks had broken from some of the screens. One of the door screens was missing a wheel. My experience with The Screen Shop was excellent from start to finish. It was easy to reach them on the phone, and I got a clear idea of what would be involved in our repair. The shop is hard to get to -- tucked into a street that's been cut off by the freeway -- but it's worth navigating to. The staff helped me unload the screens, wrote up the order, and gave me a quote. The screens would be ready the next week, even though I dropped them off just before Christmas. The promised date arrived, and the screens were ready. They all looked brand new, including new metal pull tabs that won't ever break off or pull out. Take those worn and broken screens to this shop and get them fixed. You'll be glad you did! read more

I guess these guys do great work once you hire them, but I will never know because there's no way I'm using them after the bizarre phone conversation I had with the man who answered the phone. Roughly reconstructed: "Screen Shop." "Yes, I need to make an appointment for a quote for a new screen door." "Yeah, hold on a minute." I wait. "Hello?" "Yes?" "So what did you want?" "I need to make an appointment for a quote for a new screen door." "Let me check. We have an opening on Thursday, September 8." "OK, that sounds all right." Silence on the other end. "So... what time is available?" I finally ask. "Well... it's going to have to be by my schedule," he says, making me feel like I'm working for him! "I have a dentist appointment in the morning, so... I guess I'll be available around eleven." "On Thursdays, I'm not home until after noon -- is that going to be OK?" "Yeah." And then silence. I'm wondering, is he going to take my name? My number? My address? "So how does it work?" I ask. "Do you come here or --" He lets out an exasperated sigh. "Well, you asked for a quote." "So do I come there?" He gets flustered. "OK, let's just start fresh. What is it that you wanted?" "I need a new screen door for my patio. I wanted a consultation because it's kind of an odd size and --" Condescending interruption! Tired of getting bitten by bugs, I decided to finally look into getting screens on my windows. I found this shop on Yelp and decided to give it a whirl. Sue was very helpful and nice (although with the windows I have, they couldn't get the black industrial color I needed. Sue informed me that they would have had to send the screens out to get painted for much more money, so I was given the option to paint the screens myself?). Although Sue said that sending someone out on Saturdays is possible, (being that I work in the city, and live alone, I couldn't keep a M-F appointment), the guy Joe made a bit of a stink about it. What screen shop doesn't send someone out on Saturdays? Told him I'd find another place that accommodated people who live alone and have to work during the week. read more

We ordered a screen door and was told it would take 3 weeks to get; it took 5. So far not too bad. Upon opening the packaging the door was damaged and unusable. Call the Screen Shop and was told we have to wait until Monday to do anything. We had to leave town for a week unexpectedly. Week 4, still have no heard anything. After the better part of a week they said they could repair the door. They said they could pick it up from the house. Week 5 they did not pick up the door so I brought it down to them. Talked to John. He said he work order a new door on Monday. Come Monday we hear nothing so we call them. Julie said they would only repair the door and would ship it back to the factory on Thursday. In short, this is one screwed up business. John tells me one thing and Julie says something else. After 9 weeks we have no door. Currently we are waiting for a refund. I would not ever do business with these people. They are rude and tell you one thing and do another. Their customer service is the worst. If you have a problem, do not expect them to do anything. I called them and on the phone, the person was polite. He came over did measurement on screen windows. 1. He was cranky and impatient, keep complain how unique the windows are and how difficult it will be to make. 2. Since he seemed clueless, I showed him other screen window so he can get an idea how to do it. He took the screen window off, and figured out how to do it, but cant put it back on. Later on when I order the screen window, I have to order an extra one to replace the screen window he could not put it back! 3. From initial quote $30/per screen window, I was charged $50/window. I understand that my windows are "unique" need extra work. 4.When I picked them up, the guy in the shop was very helpful. I go them home, I found out that they wont fit and they are all inside out.. I called them and he came over, and this time with better mode. First, he suggested me to just use them as is.. He said that without lock, the screen will not fall off. Why on the earth I pay $300 to get 5 not so fit screens?What if they fell off and hurt someone? I insist that they take them back and fix them. He was very cooperative, and took them back. He said that he will call me on the coming Sat. No calls until Tuesday I called them. The lady answered the phone was rude!She asked to wait and 5 minutes later, the phone was hang up somehow. 5. Finally next day I got call from the them and told me that the they are ready to be picked up. I took my lunch time away from work, drove down there. First, they took a while to ask if I need help. Understand they are busy, and then they brought out screen windows and lean them on the wall outside and told me that that's yours. When I asked them if they can help me load them into my car, they guy said that he doesn't knwo how, and called a lady out. She said that they are not responsible to load them for me. After I explained the situation and ask if they can deliver them to me becasue I was run out of my lunch time by drag around in the shop. She said I need to pay deliver fee. I had enough at this point and told her that "not if they made mistake" I had already picked them up once, with all the time I wasted with them.. Terrible service! After a few mosquito bites, we knew it was time to replace our warped window screen and get a new one. We called our HOA and they advised us to come here, which was close to our house.
