My kitchen side door is only 28 inch wide, so it is small by today's standard. Finding a door that size on Home Depot and Lowes is virtually impossible. After many many years of looking, I finally found a vendor that makes a door that size. New door was installed on Dec of 2020. Now I have to find a vendor that makes a screen door that small. Overall customer experience was great from Sue taking down the initial details for my job (out-of-warranty Milgard window glass replacement due to failed seal and rescreening sliding balcony door). She followed up w Milgard to get the exact specs of the window based on the sticker and provided a competitive quote with quick turnaround time. Window was ordered and within 2 weeks, Ricardo came out to replace the glass and took meticulous care not to impact my Hunter Douglas blinds for the window and Turkish lamp when removing the screen door. Arnold did a stellar job in cleaning and replacing the rescreened sliding door. I can't say enough good things about The Screen Shop. I needed one slider screen replaced first about a month or so ago and the process was seamless. They even adjusted my slider. I then just took 2 screens to have re-screened. I dropped the screens off a few days before the 4th and they were ready yesterday, 7/5. I had trouble getting the screens back in, called them this morning and John Salamida, the owner stopped same day to get them back in. **********BEWARE!!!******** Extremely rude service!!!! Do NOT come here! About 5 months ago, we purchased a screen door for our front door for about $1,500. Upon installation, there was a piece missing, and were told they would need to come back to finish the installation. After just a couple months, the screen door hinge on top had got bent, and a repair was needed. The technician who came to my home "ERIC" was by far the RUDEST, MEANEST, disheartening customer service person I have ever worked with in my life. My neighbors were even standing outside making sure everything was ok as they heard him raising his voice at me, being completely disrespectful and unprofessional!! There is no communication between receptionist/owner (Joanne) and technician Erik and they take it out on the customer as if it's our fault! Totally unprofessional! I was told in order for them to order the correct part, it would take about 2-2.5 weeks. I didn't receive any call, so I called to check in and she said it had arrived "that day". We scheduled for them to come out in a week. After waiting almost 3 weeks, Erik the installer showed up extremely rude, annoyed, and frustrated that he had to come out again even though we were responsible for installation/parts that were being fixed/installed, as this was NOT courtesy. The way this man raised his voice at me and talked down to me was something I had never experienced, and had actually left me in tears. It is horribly sad and disappointing they have anyone like this working for them!!! ALSO, the wrong part was brought so my screen door is incomplete and not fixed after waiting three weeks!! I immediately called Joanne, and informed her of the experience I just had with Erik (the installer) where nothing was done. I will NOT be returning, and will pass on to others this horrible experience I had! Great followup service after installation. We had our windows installed in July. We were very happy with the original install. Now that it's gotten into the wetter season, we noticed condensation on one of the windows. I emailed John with a concern and he called me back immediately. I liked collecting information about the options without any pressure to go with any particular option or to place the order, nor they made any condescending comments about installing higher end windows in a condo. The master bedroom on the 3rd floor has a great view of the Santa Cruz Mountains through French Doors, but we needed a double-width screen so the doors could be open without the risk of birds flying into the house. However, this review is NOT about that experience. I'm getting old and can't really remember that far back to describe it in detail...except to say I think it went well. Gradually over the past 8 years, the wear and tear on those screen doors began to take a toll. Small tears in the screens expanded, clasps used to lock the 2 sides didn't always engage, the doors often jumped their track and water seeped into the house during windy storms. It was time to call a door doctor. We consulted a variety of repair places on Yelp, but decided to give our first shot to the Screen Shop since something might still have been under warranty. One of their men visited on October 24th to get an idea of the situation and take specific measurements. Three days later, he returned and said a portion of the original screen mechanism was, indeed, covered by previous work. We agreed, he removed the old screens and indicated new screens should be available in about 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. Not bad! Three weeks past and no word from The Screen Shop. We called just before Thanksgiving. "Not in". First week in December. "Not in". Finally, on December 12th, we got the call. They're in". I realize the Shop is not in charge of the factory, but 6+ weeks is a far cry from 3 weeks. Fortunately, it wasn't the summer and there was no need to open the doors for fresh air. Another guy, older than the one who removed the screens, brought the new ones for installation on December 15th. Within an hour, he had the updated doors in place and even took the time to build a small vertical metal barrier along the track to hopefully block rain from seeping under the doors. This part of the experience reminded us of the difference between Home Depot and Orchard Supply Hardware. One is usually understaffed with younger people while the other tends to have retired folks who seem to know tricks of their trade. Cost for removal and installation of new screen doors with a "better" locking mechanism was $350. We prepared to pay $300-500, so the actual price was reasonable...if not exactly cheap. He also tried to minimize the dirt and disruption in our bedroom which was a bonus in our book. We'd recommend The Screen Shop if you're in the market for what they offer. Just make sure to get an accurate date for delivery and stay on their tail until it arrives. read more

I called the Screen Shop to get an estimate for a new window to be installed at my 96 YO Mother's house. The estimator was courteous and spoke directly to my Mother and answered her questions and listened to her concerns and POV (super important to her because workmen often ignore her or talk down to her). As a DIY homeowner, I've been visiting the Screen Shop since the late 80s and they have always been great. Hadn't done any business with them for a number of years but needed to repair the seal on my 16 year old sky lights. I first called them and they were very helpful and said if I had a sample of the seal and the sky light model number they would try to help me. They made me feel like I was a valued customer and they would do their best to help. This for a part that probably didn't cost $10. Couple days later I showed up with sample and paperwork in hand. They called the vendor while I was there and figured out what part to order. They said the vendor would ship it soon but to expect it to be a couple weeks cuz of COVID and Xmas. I appreciated that they set reasonable expectations. Week later, they called and I picked up my part which was exactly what I needed. What a pleasure to do business with them. Had a wonderful experience buying a custom made screen at this store. Sue helped us and was incredibly on-point, knowledgable, resourceful, and fun to talk to. It was a very organized and pleasant experience. We needed a very weird screen for a wooden window that the previous owners had customized in several different ways to the point that almost nothing was really going to work. I already figured out what might work, and Sue helped us take that design and turn it into a ready-made product. There was no wait when we came in. Parking was right in front. Near Lowes along Coleman near the airport. A little bit of looking a map is necessary to find it. The custom screen was ready when she said it would be (about 4 business days). Sue's instructions on how to measure for a screen were much easier to understand than the other screen shop's that we visited. I won't diss that store here - but this shop gave us much better service. I couldn't be happier with a business, and am getting ready to order the next screen now. We ordered 4 French doors and 20+ windows from Julie. We probably dealt with a dozen suppliers during our home renovation, but Julie was easily the best. She was very responsive, she followed up promptly with issues, and she even chased the Marvin customer service department for us multiple times. During Covid our project not only was delayed but also was done in 3 phases. Julie let us store our doors and windows at the Screen Shop for months until we were ready to install in each phase - talk about above and beyond the call. We would recommend the Screen Shop to anybody. The Screen Shop does not install "new construction" windows so they recommended Dana at Christoffersen Construction https://www.yelp.com/biz/christoffersen-construction-livermore-2?osq=Christoffersen+construction. We ignored the poor reviews on Yelp because we trusted the Screen Shop. It turned out that Dana was exactly like one of the reviewers put it - "ethically challenged (read 'dishonest')". Dana gave us a lump sum estimate for the job. The Screen Shop had told us that the installation of new construction windows should cost around $1,300 per window. But Dana's estimate worked out to about $2,000 per window. When we asked him to give us an itemized quote, he flat out refused. He said his quote was based on his 40 years of experience. He pushed us for $1,000 down payment so we could "get on his schedule", which we paid. Boy, what a mistake. We tried to reverse engineer his quote and determined that to come up with his lump sum number he would have to be charging $125/hour per guy and taking 2 people 8 hours to install each window. Dana said it wouldn't take that long, but regardless we wouldn't get any money back if it takes less time. At that point, we understood why a Yelp reviewer called him "dishonest". We decided that there was no way we go with him. Luckily we found a high quality and honest installer - A1 Quality Construction https://www.yelp.com/biz/a1-quality-construction-window-specialist-campbell-2. They were up front with us that they would charge us a couple of hundred more per window, since we hadn't purchased the windows/doors from them, but that was still way lower than Dana's price! We sent Dana a letter (he doesn't have email) asking for him to return our deposit. He ignored the letter. Julie at the Screen Shop helped us fax (!!) the letter to him. After a few months, we finally received a reply from Dana. He said he was happy to give us a full refund if only he hadn't done any work already. He claimed that he removed some drywall to make sure our kitchen window would fit - which was not true. Our GC had removed a few inches of drywall to have a look at the header before Dana ever arrived. Dana also claimed that he spent numerous hours on our project - no clue what he meant. And he complained that he took windows measurements which we wound up taking to another vendor. Well, we paid for the measurements. And we didn't even use his measurements. We replied to him and pointed out his faulty memory. We faxed the letter to him and asked Julie to do the same, so we were sure he got the letter. That was November 2020. We haven't heard from him since. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in February 2021. Dana didn't respond to the BBB's repeated requests to comment. The Screen Shop is a proud member of the BBB. Dana is not up to the Screen Shop's standard and he shouldn't be recommended to any Screen Shop customers ever. read more

I needed to replace a single medium-sized screen and had a great experience here! And since I went to Lowes and Home Depot before finding the Screen Shop, I can give you a comparison. Lowes did not sell custom-size screens. They told me they would sell me the parts and I could make the screen myself. I told them no. Home Depot could make the screen for me, but it would take 3 weeks and they couldn't match the original frame color. Screen Shop: In just 3 days, they produced an exact duplicate of my original screen, color and all. And they were cheaper than Home Depot! The Screen Shop wins on speed, price, and selection. Given our good experience with our screen door, we decided to try the Screen Shop to have four Milgard window panes replaced. (Note: We did make some other phone calls, but many window companies do not replace the panes only. They're in the business of installing entire window frames). The Screen Shop was able to come out within a few days to measure and followed up with an estimate via email. With the discount they offered on the phone, the price was reasonable, and the new panes were ready to install within a couple of weeks. I had a great experience with window screen repair at The Screen Shop. Our window company no longer made replacement screens and tenants had ripped 3 screens and broken one frame. Sue, the lady at the front desk, was efficient and accurate. She asked all the right questions and left me feeling the company totally knew what it was doing. Job was done in 24 hours. Cost (in 2019) was about $40 for a completely new screen and about $25 to replace the mesh. Family owned. Staff I believe is mostly family. Employees are plenty knowledgeable and very easy to deal with. Prices seemed fair. I had quite a few replacement screens made there, plus a wood screen door for my new front door. My only complaint is that the screen door came in with dents where they put the roping in for the screen. Was a little disappointed but I settled. What was nice is that I had the option to pick up the door and paint it...then return for them to put the screen in. This really helps the painting process ! read more
