Since my last review, I've enjoyed dining at the Sea Biscuit Cafe and getting takeout from Pepe's Pizza many times. It's wonderful to have a nice restaurant near Holden Beach that's open year round. The service remains quite good, with friendly and helpful staff doing their best to ensure you have a fabulous meal. I recently joined five other women for a Sunday brunch where four of our table ordered the special French toast, which was a huge hit. I opted for the shrimp and grits, which is a hearty, filling bowl of deliciousness, topped with perfectly cooked local, sweet shrimp. And it's gluten free. Chef's kiss! Our experience with breakfast has been positive but the pizza was horrible. It was delivered in a pool of oil and the dough was raw. We showed it to the waitress and she was scared to let the chef or owner know because she said they get angry at staff when food is returned. That was all I needed to know to never return. read more

UPDATE: We made another visit to The Sea Biscuit Cafe again this year on our recent trip to Holden Beach. I still enjoyed my visit but it was not a perfect five star visit this time as it was the first time. They appeared to be very crowded (almost full parking lot) and we could tell the stress level when we came in. Still, our server was nice and helpful but we could see that they had a busy time of it then. We did have a considerable wait after ordering but when the food came, I still enjoyed mine just like last visit. This time I went with something simple/basic in The Boomer menu selection that included 2 eggs, bacon, grits, and toast. The scrambled eggs were again just as I like them and I really enjoyed the rye toast as well. Others got The Hen With A Grin (chicken and waffle) and Breakfast Poutine bowl with a pancake on the side. Of note, the chicken was commented on as pretty good but the waffle did not match expectations by the person that ordered this one at our table. I do like these guys for a good sit down diner breakfast but they appeared to be a bit overwhelmed on the day we saw them this year. read more

Great food and good service. Portions were ample and very filling. Would recommend to anyone for breakfast.

Overall, it was a good experience. Not bad, not great! The food was ok. The service was good for a busy ocean breakfast place. You can tell the folks were getting really in the weeds, but large tables kept coming on in. I like the diner atmosphere. It always feels nostalgic to ocean diners of my childhood (at least the parts of it I can remember). read more

Love the Sea Biscuit Cafe. Service is great by servers. Sometimes they are a little overwhelmed BUT that's why you get connect 4 to play while the cooks make your meal fresh! I love when they have their chorizo bowl special! Their cheddar burger with homemade fries or chips is amazing! My husband enjoys the fried bologna add an egg! Just a quiet nice place to go if you enjoy a good cooked meal. I love their breakfast and their home fries. The only thing I wish is that they had homemade chips for dinner service. read more

Sea Biscuit came recommended, I've live in Shallotte for 3 years. I get being busy, I truly do. We were told 15-20 min wait at 10 am on a Saturday but waiting 30 minutes a little bit more than one would like. Getting seated in an almost empty place and waiting another 40 mins for food is not. Orders scrambled eggs w/cheese to have something they called eggs w/an unmelted piece of cheese placed on top op if was crap. I couldn't even put enough salt or pepper to make it edible. The waitress was crappy, food was inedible. I had guest food n from out of town I was embarrassed. This place came recommended. According to reviews foods great, staffs great and service was quick. Today may have been a one off. But I'd never ever go back. read more

We had wanted to try Sea Biscuit for a long time. We went today only to be greeted with a Wait to be seated sign just inside the front door. There were a couple of ladies working. After at least 10 minutes waiting and no one even acknowledging us, we decided to leave. On our way out, we noticed an adjacent room with people waiting - presumably for a table. There were many available tables. Maybe they were short staffed. For us, we gave it a try. There are other good food choices in the area so we went to one of them and had a nice meal. Don't let the humble exterior fool you, this restaurant is putting out some top notch food. We had very unique dinner last night. We both had roasted grouper on a plate of fennel and oyster broth. We asked for extra bread so we could get every bit of the broth. My only complaint is the service. The servers are very pleasant but they don't know anything about the food they are selling. Every question I had she had to go to the kitchen. And the other servers, not waiting tables, should be reminded the whole restaurant can see everything they're doing. The kitchen is producing. Like most everything in the Holden Beach area, you've got to go find it, but it is worth for breakfast. The food was solid, tasted freshly prepared, and I felt I got my money's worth. I had the b Benedict Arnold plus a You Ham You biscuit, she had the fruity beignets, the little one had pancake, scrambled egg and sausage. There were no complaints about the food at all, I'd go back tomorrow if we were still there. The speed of service was the only drawback. We waited approx 30bmins from ordering to food arrival. They seemed short-handed and had a sign up looking for help, so at least they're doing something about it. If they had just told us ahead of time that we might have to wait a bit for the food, I'd have given 5 stars. Give it a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed! read more

The food was really good. Everything seemed fresh to order and tasty. The portion was perfect. We both left there full but not over stuffed. Service was on top. She was very attentive and came over often or looked over and gave thumbs up to make sure we didn't need anything. The ambiance was average, but clean and organized. Went here for breakfast this morning after reading reviews. I will never understand how people can say good food when it looks like this pics below. First and most important Coffee was water awful. I ordered what was supposed to be a Benedict dish with pork loin with over easy eggs and biscut. Mind you I did ask the waitress how this was prepared and she sais thin slice of pork loin. No mention of fried. My vision was a thin slice of pork over a biscut with gravy. Instead I got this deep over fried chunk of pork that was not even able to cut with a knife. That was over fried tasted like dirty grease that was smothered with heavy gravy and 2 fried eggs. SO VERY NASTY Husband got 2 eggs over easy country ham, rye toast and bacon. The ham steak looked like it was sitting around just waiting to be reheated,the eggs were over done no yolks, (he said over easy). Toast was like hocky pucks and came out dry no butter no jam nothing. Then it was time to leave and had to stand at the register along with 3 others while the staff just continued to ignore all of until I fianlly said can someone please ring us out? Grabbed a couple of breakfast burritos to go. Pretty basic and bland. Thank goodness we had hot sauce in the car. They were absolutely slammed and everyone working seemed to be in the weeds. Food was amazing!! The service not so much. There was only one waitress who was very rude. She disappeared for about 10-15mins and another lady had to come out and do her job. The other woman, who appeared to be a cook, was as sweet as can be. The booths were not comfortable in the slightest. Over all it was an okay experience. Went for breakfast with my grandfather. This restaurant has switched hands a few times. Giving this 2 stars because we were seated right away and the waitress seemed somewhat polite. We both ordered a basic breakfast: Bacon, egg, hashbrown, and toast. It took 50 minutes to receive our meals. There was a note on the door saying they're short staffed but it was not busy and it looked like they had plenty of help (Mostly just standing around to talk in the kitchen). Everything looked like it was frozen and heated up in a microwave. The hash browns (which we each paid $2 up-charge for) were what you get at McDonalds. The biscuit tasted like flour. I've never had to think about salting my bacon, but it was so stale I contemplated it. All the food tasted the same. My grandfather gave them some credit for their coffee tasting ok. We wouldn't go back here. Save yourself $30 and make your own breakfast. read more

Upon my first impression, I wasn't that impressed but I really needed to use the restroom and it was the closest place open with food in the off season. To our surprise, the food was awesome and the service was great. I had a burger and the hubby had the fried bologna sandwich. These are typical cafe ideas. However, they were really great! Tried them for lunch and shrimp and grits was very mediocre. Shrimp was very fresh but they managed to make the dish kind of tasteless. Needed more sausage and some cheese and grits were watery. Breakfast was wonderful. Good sausage gravy, the eggs were cooked as ordered. Great breakfast potatoes. If you go there, please be patient. They can get overrun and only have two people taking care of customers. They work their behinds off. So if you're in the area and are in a hurry, go to Hardee's. It's not fancy or trendy but it's quaint and homey. It feels like having breakfast with family, even when you don't know anyone else in the restaurant. Best pizza around! Just make certain they take the order correctly - check it before you leave if you're picking up. They are slow but I think it's worth the wait - just call ahead. The place needs more updating, remodeling and a better interior if you plan on eating there rather than taking it home. Maybe in 2023 you can make it friendlier and more inviting to eat in. Decided on a whim to stop in for a late lunch on a Sunday and was completely blown away. Very simple surroundings and decor but all of the staff is polite and helpful and the pizza is amazing. The pizza crust is uncommonly good - just the right chewiness and bite and crunch. Perfect. Someone in the back is taking time to get it right. I've had pizza at the other place around here in HoldenBeach, and these guys got them beat hands-down. I'll be back. I'll bring Friends. I'll tell other people. we heard about Seabiscuit from neighbors so we drove to Supply for lunch. when asked soup of the day - there was no soup. Thirty minutes or more after ordering the sandwiches arrived. The cheese burgers was okay, the fried green tomato blt was delicious. The turkey club was to high to bite so had to be taken apart. The turkey was not real turkey. We heard local people are happy with the cafe. We wish them good luck. read more
