This was the first time ordering and it will not be the last. Dinner was amazing. The whole process from ordering online, to check out and then pick up was so easy. The curbside pickup was great, you just text when you are there. Dinner consisted of Butternut Squash Soup with Walnut Cream, Romaine Salad with the works (feta cheese, toasted Ciara, black eyed peas, spring onions , cherry tomatoes topped with an amazing Avocado Dressing. Next is the Braised Shorts Ribs and Potato Salad. Heating instructions super easy. Portions were plentiful so we have leftovers. Thank you Chef Alex! So....my wife is starting to go stir crazy. This whole "safer at home" thing is easy for me because I am a hermit at core....but for her....seeing her friends and talking and laughing with different people is an essential part of life. So we decided to start hosting occasional "events" at home.... (with distance and hand sanitizer.....because science). Just one couple at a time to make it manageable and.... only people who we knew were taking it seriously. Decided to make it like a "dining out" pseudo replacement. Idea being to send the menu to our guests and give them an opportunity to do the whole "peruse and decide" thing that is a part of eating at a restaurant. First thought was Musso & Frank. My meal was going to be: Club steak (med rare) Wedge salad (with Gorgonzola dressing on the side) Sliced Tomatoes. Sourdough bread. And a Wild Turkey Manhattan....(because science). Went to their website...and ....CLOSED. Dammit. Searched more...and nothing I found was giving me the "Menu Feel" that I was looking for. Everything seemed sort of "fast foodish" or overly simple. Finally saw a search return for THE SEQUESTERED CHEF. Interesting name...with a nice informative website. A sort of guerrilla pop up run by a couple in response to so many restaurants being shut down. Local...serious dishes...and enough varied choices on the menu to make the meal selection process worth doing. (Menu changes weekly). Great prices (each item feeds 2). So I went for it. Sent the menu to our guests on the day before. They were excited and surprised and responded quickly with their selection of a meal to share. Ordered on the day before our event. (I think the cut off time is midnight). I picked up the food at 5 PM (an hour before guests were to arrive) but I think you can pick up from midday on. Easy. Came right out with the food when I texted. Maybe 45 seconds total. Chef Alex wore a mask...and so did I. Re-heating instructions were included. (Each item comes in an oven safe/ready container.) Guests arrived at 6. I put the beautiful lemony juicy whole chicken in the oven as we settled in on the patio with a cocktail. I used a predefined set of alarms on my phone to tell me when to add each item to the oven so that I could relax and chat and not have to think. (The chicken needs 35 minutes uncovered...and has longest re-heat time).....and then the other dishes...(short ribs, green beans, carrots) needing less time...were popped into the same 350 oven such that everything was done at the same time. I transferred the hot containers straight from the oven to two serving trays and set them on the separate patio dining tables so that we and our guests could each serve ourselves separately. Everything was delicious and piping hot and perfectly heated. DEEP flavor on the super tender short ribs. A beautiful juicy chicken. Carrots and green beans were ALL eaten. Lentil soup was wonderful and complex. Everyone raved about the food....and there was plenty of it. Each item DOES feed 2 people....even if one of them is me. The evening was a total success. We ordered the Hanukkah dinner. I order 2 proteins because we are a picky group. Dinner was absolutely amazing. My girlfriend joined us & had never had a knish before. Her head almost exploded. She said the dinner overall was the best food she had had in ages. I had to agree. The whole roasted chicken was divine. My wonderful daughter brings dinner to her parents each week. We have had 3 different types of ribs, all excellent . The chicken is amazing not to mention huge. Salads are unique and wonderful. There is really nothing about The Sequestered Chef that is not 5-star. We ordered for Christmas Eve, and had butternut squash soup, cauliflower au gratin, and brisket. Every single bite of everything was heaven. The food was so perfectly made, and came with perfectly easy reheating instructions. Pick-up couldn't have been quicker or more simple. The portion sizes are quite generous. You will not be left hungry. This food is like what you would get at the best restaurants in town. Instead of spending money on tipping a delivery driver, or spend money on increased delivery company fees, the money you spend goes right into the high quality of the food and the experience. Lemony roast chicken, insanely delicious horseradish mashed potatoes and the freshest salads. The servings are for two people but we served three tonight and still have leftovers. This was the perfect holiday weekend dinner - fresh ingredients beautifully prepared, with no cooking and no clean-up. The food is so delicious and perfect for sharing with family and friends--(as well as impressing them and making them happy)! It was such an easy order and pickup with very clear, easy warming instructions and we ordered for a dinner of 4 and there were great left overs, so not only are you completely satisfied but it's a great value. The MEAT is to die for--the roasted chicken, ribs and BRISKET is truly top notch and I was in love with the macaroni and cheese and salad and the CORN ON THE COB was insanely delicious as well. And his deviled eggs were DIVINE and I usually am not a huge fan of those. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, high quality and made with love.
