After our big snow of 12/12/18 my faithful 03 Toyota was dead even with its new battery. I tried it a little later and it seemed fine but did it again with a third try so I called TSD to have a look and two hours later it was ready. They said they could find nothing wrong or suspicious so there was nothing to fix but to keep an eye on it and let them know if it happened again. I was pleasantly surprised (shocked really) when they said there was no charge! My wife has taken her car in for work and was very pleased with the experience so needless to say, I recommend them enthusiastically. read more

I used to take my cars here. At first I thought they did good quality work. I have had some issues the last two times I went there. Anyone can make a mistake but I had problems the last two times. First I took my Honda in for an oil change. I was informed that the tech couldn't get the drain plug to tighten. I would need an oversized plug or new oil pan. I told them if the plug was stripped they did it. They have performed the oil change the last three times. I was told oil plugs wear out and have to be replaced every so many years. I used to do my on oil changes. In 50 years I've never stripped or had to replace an oil plug. Then I was told the tech was able to tighten the plug. I noticed later that I had oil spots in the drive. I kept an eye on the oil level. Wasn't leaking enough for adding oil but it didn't used to do this. I took car to Crown Honda. The oil plug was indeed stripped. That oil change was close to $500. Later I talked to a mechanic that specialized in Honda's. He told me Honda oil plugs do not wear out on my particular engine if the plug is cleaned before installation and hand tighten before snugging up. Second issue: I took a Subaru in for a sticking caliper. They did a complete brake job. The rotors were warped and were a safety issue. They said it came with a 36 month / 36,000 warranty. I noticed within 6 months I could feel the brakes grabbing around town but not bad. Later I was on the highway and hit the brakes. The front end shuddered so bad I didn't know if I could stop the car. This was close to 12,000 miles and 12 months. I was informed that the warranty didn't include rotors or pads. Most warranties do not but they shouldn't have stressed the warranty when I was having the work done. Second when they replaced rotors it was needed as it was a safety issue. 12 months later when I brought it back it was no longer a safety issue. They agreed to turn the rotors at half price. It's been years since I had rotors turned. Back then it was somewhere around $20. Most places now replace rotors rather than turning them. They charged me $70 to turn them. That means full price would have been $140. You can replace rotors cheaper than that. I'm not a mechanic but have worked on them most of my life. Like I said anyone can make a mistake but if you do own up to it. I feel like they did strip the oil plug. As far as the Subaru the warranty meant nothing. I haven't been back. read more

I had several things done on my son's previous can and my previous SUV. They are very helpful and answer all questions as well as discuss things with you BEFORE attempting to repair them. They have the LOWEST SERVICE CHARGE PER HOUR, that I have ever ran across. The owner is quite busy but if you catch him for a question, he is a car encyclopedia! I'm from out of town and had a bit of a fender bender which busted the headlight and smooched my hood a bit. I was leaving town in a couple of days. They got me right in. They researched replacing the whole headlamp fixture in comparison with just the light bulb. I went with the light bulb. They put it in and taped it over to protect it from weather so my car was safe to drive back home where the rest of the repairs will be done. They were courteous, prompt, professional and quick. Engine was overheating. Pulled off the interstate into The Service Department. They were short staffed and were unable to look at my truck, but the technition took the time to fill my water pump back up with water. The truck cooled and stayed cooled for the trip back to Charlotte. They also tried to call to other places for me to see if any other shops could take me nearby. Even though they didn't work on my vehicle, they were kind, helpful, and personable when they didn't have to be...and asked nothing in return. That speaks pretty highly that they're a mechanic that can be trusted and would go the extra mile. read more

Took a van there specifically to get the ABS system pressure bled after extensive brake work because it had a spongy pedal, but they gave it back without bleeding them and charged us $108 for looking at it. I was helping a buddy whose brakes had failed on his van because some of the steel brake lines had rusted out. A lot of stuff was rusted, so it got new calipers &pads, all new steel and flexible brake lines, master cylinder, rear brake hardware including new bleeder valves. (shoes and drums were still excellent). The brakes worked but felt spongy no matter how much I bled them. That's a common problem with air getting trapped in the EBCM module. I took it to The Service Department to have it pressure bled using a special tool that controls the EBCM. They pulled all the wheels to check the brakes despite me telling them they had just been done, but did not bleed the system as agreed. We now have to find another shop that will actually do the work as requested. read more
