The part arrived within the window he quoted (2-3 hours), was installed without fuss, and the final bill was reasonable. What stood out as much as the technical work: he flagged a slow coolant leak and a minor oil leak -- this is an older car, so neither was a shock -- but there was no pressure to pile on services. He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. The waiting area is a genuine plus: free wifi, a table big enough to work at, and a small fridge with complimentary drinks, large TV. My one suggestion would be to add a coffee in the AM. Also, the door to the reception currently reads "B". Might want to avoid any confusion with better signage. So, I started my foray into using a pre-purchase inspection in San Antonio back in 2011 when I…read morelived there. The inspection was so detailed and the experience turned out so well that I decided I would always do a pre-purchase inspection before buying any used car. So, it was not until April 2016 that it was time to buy another car, a used one. However, now I lived in Fayetteville and I had to go looking for an inspector before I could go looking for a car. I did the research and settled on AutoSpec. So, I went and looked at various cars and then had three of them inspected at two different used car dealerships by Dexter. So, a few things became apparent. First, Dexter does an extremely detailed job on inspecting cars and those dealerships were kind of "tricky" in my opinion with what he had discovered. So, onto used car dealership number 3 and car number 4. Dexter inspected the car, gave it a glowing review, and we purchased it. This was at the end of April 2016. So, I figured time would tell how good his inspection was (although I believed it was top notch at the time). Here we are 14 1/2 months later and the car has not given me a single problem. Man, if I had bought any of the first 3 he inspected for me, I would have been in the hole deep at this point on repairs. But, that little bit of money upfront for his inspection, has resulted in a perfectly reliable used car. I trust him 100% to inspect for me on my used car purchases in the future. In fact, he is the only option in my mind based on how well this car has done over the last year and some change. He was invaluable in my car hunt. His fee was reasonable, his inspection was detailed, and he really looked out for me in an unbiased way. Now, what do independent mechanics say about my car. A month ago we ran over something in the road and to see if there was damage to our car it was thoroughly inspected by our mechanic. They were overly impressed with the condition and quality of our car as they took things apart and examined them. What I am saying is that his inspection held up over a year later under a rigorous second check (because of running over something). He didn't miss a thing. Quality and Thoroughness. That is what comes to mind when I think of AutoSpec. All inspections and the purchase were in the Raleigh area.
