We loved the outdoor seating on a sunny day. We had the fried Catfish and Chicken strip basket. Both were very good. The Cole slaw is really tasty. We loved everything about the place, but it is cash only and pretty expensive. The choc. Malt was the best I've had in a coons age. read more

I used to go to this place for the ice cream and the ice cream was good. But today I went for a lunch and I was disappointed in the quality of the salad and the price of it. Also, the bathrooms are pretty dirty. The service was fine. Not the most friendly, but efficient. read more

Very disappointed in their highly touted catfish. Really expensive too for what you get. Lunch for 2 with one soda $35!!

Husband loved his burger. My burger was very hard for me to eat. It had a taste that was impossible to get past. The onion rings were awesome tho. We sat outside the weather was perfect. I think my burger may have been randomly bad or maybe it was just me. read more

We come to the Hot Springs area every year and eat at least one meal at The Shack when we're there. This year was different due to the pandemic, I guess, because we were warned as soon as we walked in that there would be at least a 30-minute wait, even though the place wasn't full. My husband ordered two corn dogs, and unfortunately had to ask that they be reheated in the microwave since they weren't hot all the way through. My chef salad was good and there was plenty of it. Be aware that credit cards aren't accepted here, but the meal prices definitely won't break the bank. read more

I really wanted to give them 4 1/2 stars, but I just rounded up. The fried catfish was meaty, hot, and fresh. The cheeseburger was very good. The sides were mostly good with the exception of the hush puppies. The chocolate malt I had needed more chocolate flavor and malt flavor. The service has been very good each time we've been as well. Also known as "Jessieville Country Club". located across the street from Jessieville high school. really good food, fast, and very friendly wait staff. Small town restaurant feel to it. I had a b-b-q sandwich (I dont' really recommend it since there are better b-b-q places near them in Hot Springs, but not too bad). They also make fried catfish which is a real hit to the locals. THE Locals place. For over 30 years The Shack has been serving up consistently good food. Menu is loaded with over 30 choices! Complete with Shakes / Sundaes / Ice Cream / Sweet Tea / Homemade Pies / Fried Pies / I liked that Salad was offered with the Farm-Raised Catfish, instead of Fries. Catfish was lightly battered & fried golden brown, as were the REAL hand-rolled Hushpuppies. Neither tasted greasy. Moderate portions & low prices. Servers were watchful & everything was spotless. They do quite a bit of carryout, & picnic tables are set up outside, since the Dining Room is small. One of few restaurants where I've observed that business is steady from Open to Close. Before COVID, this place was awesome! The menu was extensive (everything from burgers and salads to catfish and lates of chicken fried steak and more. Since the pandemic, they've reduced the menu to just burgers, sandwiches, salads, and catfish. And the last couple of times I was there, the burgers weren't as good as I remember. They weren't bad, but they seemed smaller, and the buns were "crumbly" like they weren't quite fresh. Still a decent place for a burger, but I really miss the chicken fried chicken with fried okra and cole slaw. read more

Owner that cooks built the literal building and has been serving it up for 30+ years. If you are anywhere remotely close it is a must. Went there a few times now. Their location is across from a school so the front area is set up a little like a corner store. Candy and snacks in plastic jugs and on racks. Its a small place with history. They still use the old milk shake mixers from I'm guessing the 50s. The place is usually packed full. The food is what you would expect from an old burger and milk shake shop. The burgers are great or good (depending on who's cooking) but I've never had a bad one there. I would eat there again! Only negative... They use fryers there and you will always leave smelling like fry grease. I spray myself with body spray when I leave... but then it just smell like someone put perfume on a catfish... Not a good combination. =/ If it weren't for the fryer stink I would give it a 5 star. read more

My husband, brother and I eat at the Shack about 2x a week. We have never once regretted anything we've ordered. We've also found Spaghetti and Chili posted as specials occasionally and I know the guys love the Chili. (I'm not a chili fan. ) Their salads are outstanding. I have never seen a salad with so many different ingredients. It's like what you 'd make yourself if you had that much in your fridge. The staff is awesome. I've tried eating here numerous times. All the Villagers rave about the true "Southern " food. They say the burgers are great and the catfish is even better. We came back from quartz mining at the Ron Colman mines. Awesome quartz mining but that is for a different review. All I can say is that my son is pretty picky when it comes to his burgers said, "this is the best burger ever". What it reminds me of is a good ole' fashion hand made burger made with some loving care by the people that work there. The service was given with a smile and the care you would expect from people that love what they are doing. The pulled pork sandwich also was again great and had that home cook taste to it. I didn't have the catfish, but it looked wonderful and the smell made me turn my head several times. The prices were modest. We would highly recommend this to anyone within 15 miles. Absolutely nothing fancy here: basically an old-fashioned "drive-in" (that has inside and outside seating now), it serves burgers, catfish, and the like. The Shackburger is great, and the catfish is always crispy, tasty, and perfect. Located about 4 miles north of the West (Main) Gate into Hot Springs Village on Highway 7, across from Jessieville High School, The Shack is almost always busy in the early evening (Villagers tend to eat dinner very early) and the wait can be a bit long for this type of place, but the prices are good and the food dependable.
