Unbelievable horrible experience. I ordered 5 simple shades that were to be installed 2 weeks before Christmas. It is now April the 24th and the job is not done. The man who originally came to measure measured everything wrong. That required more trips with more measuring and reordering. The shades finally came. One was clearly defective and had to be fixed and replace, yes both. Then the cord on one of the shades busted apart at the place they melt them together. So again they have order the cord from Florida and we have to wait until it is here to schedule installer. They have sent the WRONG SIZED CORD 3 or 4 TIMES now and each time i have numerous emails and calls to try to get the job done. The people in the showroom show no initiative in setting the situation right. That is on you to call people in New York to work out what has to be done and when. The first red flag after the first mismeasurements i got some emails signed as if they came from the salesperson i worked with in the showroom. I felt something was not right and upon questioning the showroom salesperson she admitted those emails are from someone in New York just using the name of the woman in the showroom. Everything is scheduledled through New York. As I said when things go wrong its all on you to get it worked out. The people in the showroom don;t take on the burden of following up with what is happening and how much longer it is going to take. Bottom line a Shade Store is a BOTHER FOR MONTHS. They make more mistakes and take little to no responsibility for straightening out the mistakes. You will be on the phone to New York working it out yourself. I go out of town now and the job is still not done. Don't be fooled by the showroom. Shade Store is a crap business based on my experience .....2 broken shades out of 5 with numerous mismeasurements requiring lots of time and bother with measuring , seriously mismeasuring so many times you would not believe it. Every time they have to come here again requires numerous emails and rearrangement of your day. AS I SAID BOTHERSOME , INEFFICIENT , NO INITIATIVE to take care of the problems. that on you. I put in a 10k order with The Shade Store for shades for 2 rooms in our home. When they showed up to install the shades they determined the person who measured made a mistake and none of the shades in 2 rooms would fit. They remeasured during the appointment that was for installation and assured me it would be fast tracked and put through immediately. I am a very reasonable person and understand that a mistake can happen. We had removed all the temporary blinds and washed the windows etc and were so excited for the install. I was not happy but assumed they would deal with it properly. Not the case. The unacceptable level of customer service that has gone on since is disheartening. It is 8 days later and a new order has not been processed. They may or may not be able to expedite the order. The initial order took 4 weeks to process. I have continually emailed asking the sales rep(who make a commission) to update me and get me in contact with a service rep. Initially she told me she would do that but since that time I have received emails only from the sales rep saying an order was put through but no time line give. I finally called the customer care line and they said that the sales rep did not put in a new order and they would investigate. I am waiting for a call from the service rep tomorrow. The sales rep today said the order is in the queue and she does not know if it can be expedited. I also asked for a discount and that has not been answered. I decided to order with the Shade Store because I thought at this price point the customer service would be great and it simply is not. read more

The staff was very friendly. On May 31, 2025, I ordered two 22" by 46" blinds for my bedroom windows. The transaction was mostly completed on November 17 - that's five and a half months! A slight glitch at the beginning of the transaction sent a cascade of miscommunications, noncommunications and confusion throughout the process. The company policy of sending the blinds/shades to the buyer's home and the installer arriving several days later added to the confusion and frustration. Both blinds were initially faulty, and no priority was given to getting them repaired. The Shade Store resolved the ongoing situation by issuing a refund. read more

I am updating my 1 star review since Autumn at the Mill Valley Shade Store has made an effort to resolve my shade issue. Autumn worked to get the shades that had developed the yellow glue line replaced at a discount (free would have been better) and also applied the discount to one additional shade we purchased. We installed the roller shades yesterday and they look beautiful. We are waiting for the final shade, but I am sure it will also look great since we have a shade in the same fabric in our family room. The team member who measured on site did a great job. The white roller shade with white hardware is a clean and modern window and the motorized version in our bedroom allows us to enjoy the view and then put the shade down from bed. The Shade Store has restored my faith in companies that sell shades and blinds. After a very bad experience with another company, I am so happy with the care and professionalism that their team provides. I like that the measurements are taken first by the person who also installs the blinds. Willie Williams did a great job in explaining the limitations of my window and providing potential solutions. Then I went in to the Mill Valley store to meet my designer Mackenzie Cohan who was ready with a design plan that she had produced from the measurements and pictures Willie had taken. She helped me to stay in budget and still get the exact product to meet my needs Mackenzie is a true professional who went above and beyond with her patience and care. Briefly: Horrendous customer service. 6 1/2months and still waiting. In early December 2024 I purchased drapes from the Mill Valley Shade Store which were installed January 27, 2025 and which I requested the length be corrected on 2/4. Two and an half months later on April 24 they finally picked them up to be adjusted. Since April innumerable texts, emails and phone calls which almost always went without response, or follow-up, were made to learn the status of my order. Back and forth with excuses, who's on vacation or at a conference, finally on 6/20/25, Anthony Bove wrote an email to say that the drapes are "being processed" despite my repeated request for the past 3-4 weeks for a refund. And why are they being processed two months after they were picked up, and one month after I was told they were being shipped back to me, again at the wrong length!?! The design persons response, who had finally escalated the situation, got back to me this morning with a cut and paste text of the escalator's text to her saying: "It looks like the client has replied to Anthony Bove. He will be able to help them navigate next steps. I will be available to him for support". The request to the escalator was for a refund - not "support" for his or her employee! And I have been dealing with Anthony for over a month. These are the types of cryptic answers, if I get one at all, I've consistently received to questions like: Where are the drapes? Why can no one find the drapes in the system? Why are they being sent back to me at the same length I returned them back in April? If on 5/31 I requested a refund of a 12/2024 order, why are they presently "being processed"? The Shade Store has had my $4,555 since December of last year. I have yet to receive the refund and my nearly seven month old order is now presently "being processed". Given my consistent experience of ineptitude, an ongoing comedy of errors and lack of communication, stonewalling, I have no faith that the drapes would even be shipped, yet a third time, with the correct measurements. Based on their total lack of integrity alone, (they say they're sorry and want to make me happy - yet I find myself spinning wheels) they should immediately process a refund. read more

The shade store at Mill Valley has the worst customer service ever!! We had to go through Autumn to place my order , and she was the most stiff, non helping professional ever. She rushed me through everything, as she did not have enough time to deal with the customers and was always overwhelming. Pre and Post order, I was very clear that I needed to get the install done in the first week of August, when she said her manager would call me, who never did. Then I had to call store multiple times and every time there is a new person who picks the phone and acts they never knew nothing about the problem and act innocent that its not their mistake but someone else's. Eventually after couple weeks Mr Anthony , the manager called who again was the most rude person I have ever talked to. He kept saying he will try his best but he does not even follow through although he said he will call to update regularly, or I could call to check.. Complete corporate disaster is apparent. Then after days and weeks of begging the install date in first week of Aug, someone calls us to see if we can be available within 1/2 hr of their call for install. I called back as soon as I saw the message like in 30 mins when I was informed that the appointment was given to someone else. Like whaaaaaaatttttt????? You expect people to keep up with your nonsense of worst customer service and then drop everything for your install team as soon as you call. This is for 20k of their product purchase?? Like may be we should all leave our day jobs and sit by phone to answer you anytime u call but you have audacity to ignore calls from clients you charged 20k already. This may classify as fraud as your failure of providing services in time for you charged. They should close Shade store entirely or at-least the Mill Valley store that inconvenience people so much. They have zero customer service. Its been 4 calls this week that they have not returned. I was finally able to reach NY headquarters where they were immediately apologetic for non responsive non caring behavior of local employees ( probably on fire list soon!). It's been 5 weeks of following and no installation yet! I may have to dump the products in the front of their store if they cant install in time and follow up with a lawyer to start a fraud case against them. I yet have to hear from the install team manager , when I was promised today that someone will call before 6 and I called again but no one called yet! I will likely start fraud case against them for failure to deliver what they charged for! They totally need to b shut down soon. Complete scammers!!! read more

I had a first-rate experience from the first time I walked in the door just to have a look around. The second time I went in and spoke to a salesperson, I left with several swatches and a beautiful book full of ideas and possibilities. I felt absolutely no pressure from the salesperson, but took her card. I emailed photos of the space I wanted the shades for, got more samples and took my time choosing the one I wanted. The whole process was like a well-oiled machine. I chose the hardware I wanted. Someone came to my house to measure and the shades arrived at my house exactly when planned. An appointment for installation and the shades are perfect. This was a pleasurable, polite, professional, seamless experience from start to finish. From Kristen, the salesperson, to the measuring guy, and the installer everything was no hassle. Communication was first rate. I recommend 100%! read more

Ordering was easy. Installs were a bust. They shipped the wrong size blinds, took months to fix the issue, and then took even more time to schedule an installer to come out. This, despite their removing our existing blinds and knowing that people on the street could see inside the house. Customer service after ordering only responds when it feels like it. For $15k spent, not a good experience at all. Update: The installers came out after I posted on Yelp, and Tami S was super helpful in getting that set up as well as diligently following up. Am bumping my review up 1 more star thanks to their help. Overall, still troubled that it took a review to get attention from my rep. read more

We have an extremely large patio door that is nearly 10 feet wide. It was very hard to find a shade company that makes shades that wide. On a whim I decided to call The Shade Store, and luckily they supported that size and even had a ton of options for styles. They also helped us design a useful split shade system that worked very well for our door. The installation had a couple of issues but the customer support was great and those issues were resolved. We've talked about getting shades for our get away place forever and just never prioritized it. Over the last ten years, we've basically redone everything in the house and finally decided to take the plunge and order new shades after the sun damaged our new flooring. Designer Julia Baker and The Shade Store in Strawberry Village made the process painless and easy! Julia assisted us with scheduling measures, the selection of the window treatments and all the installation logistics. All the staff were so professional and highly skilled. And what an incredible transformation!! Who knew shades could make such a difference?! I can't tell you what an incredible impact these beautiful new shades make on the overall design of the space. It's like the entire aesthetics of our house took a major leap forward into gorgeous modern style - we LOVE our new shades! The only downside is now we want Julia to help us with new shades at our condo, at our work places and basically we want new shades from The Shade Store everywhere! The best part of the experience for us was the excellent customer service The Shade Store and its designers provide. They don't waste your time with ridiculous short-term sales and heavy handed sales pressure like Smith & Noble, which tries to lure you with gimmicky time-limited tricks intended to force you into making an immediate purchase. Updating my review as the Shade Store reached out and did a great job with customer care and ensuring the shades were delivered and installed with priority. We essentially hit every step of bad luck with our purchase from the Shade Store - mis-measuring, broken shades, reordering, delayed installation, etc. The reason I went to them was for their reputation in quality and offering a seamless experience. While we didn't receive this "seamless experience," I do feel like the Shade Store cared about about all the mishaps and did everything in their power to make it right. read more

The Shade Store not only has a great variety of shades to choose from, but their customer service is top notch. I worked directly with Anthony Paulino on ordering replacement roller shades. He made sure that the measuring team took into account our ceiling trim and worked with the existing recessed roller shade adjacent to the 'new' roller shade we were ordering. That demonstrated his great attention to detail. In another room, we wanted to install a motorized 5 separate shades to cover 5 separate window panels. Anthony was detailed in quoting the different motorized shade options (e.g. number of shades, motorized shade brand) - and after 10+ emails of back and forth, we ended up working with the Contractor's shade installer instead. Despite not winning the sale, Anthony was gracious and professional when we told him we couldn't purchase these shades with him. I was skeptical about going with the Shade Store because they are a little pricey. But the quality is top notch and the customer service is great! We got almost 20 windows covered and I'm extremely happy with how they turned out. They're beautiful! About six months later one of the cords broke randomly, and no questions asked they booked time to repair it, and even followed up later to make sure we were happy. Also want to add, they have tons of shade types materials, and patterns to choose from. During my research phase I chose one window to be covered by an online competitor and the quality wasn't nearly as good. read more

More than a year ago, we placed an order for 2 shades. At first it was hard to even place the order bc the designer I met with was unresponsive. Eventually got my interior designer involved to help. One shade ordered is very large. Over the course of a few weeks talking and emailing with a designer there, no one mentioned that the large shade was too heavy to be opened manually by chain. It broke right away. Weeks later a tech came out to diagnose the problem. He ordered the wrong size part. More weeks pass, another comes to order the right part. We wait for it to arrive. Meanwhile we are up at crack of dawn due to no shading in bedroom. Months later, it gets fixed but we have to manually boost the shade up while pulling gently on chain so as not to put too much stain on it. All techs have told us shade too heavy to be non-motorized. Now a year later and it's broken again. It will probably stay that way for a couple of months as we have to wait for them to make a new one. The manager says they will give us a 15% discount to get a motorized shade. This will still amount to a significant amount of $$ that I never would have spent. After all this hassle and malfunction, it's been a big waste of $$ and I should have just gotten black out curtains from Ethan Allen. This company lacks responsiveness, accountability and value for the cost. read more

A few months ago The Shade Store installed solar shades in the living room of a modern house we built in 2016. The shades themselves are exactly what we needed to filter out the intense morning sun through very large glass panels. Of the five shades, the 11' panel needed factory adjustment and the installer, Steve Clark graciously sent it back and a new one was installed today by him and Carlos. These two experts walked me through the installation, battery operation and remote control throughly and professionally. They were both great guys to have to finish the project and seemed to know everything about residential construction; if there were a hitch I know they'd figure out a solution. But there was none and I'm super happy with the product and install. Thank You Steve and Carlos! Walked in to Shade Store to have help with window treatments for our new home. Person behind counter acted annoyed that I wanted her to sit down with me to discuss options. She did however agree to sit and we discussed options for 1 room and then she asked if I could email her specs and she would email me back prices. She was pleasant enough during the 10 minute conversation. I emailed her a few hours later, and she replied a week later that she was working on it and would get back to me. I emailed her again as a follow up and I never heard back from her. I will be working with another company on treatments for the 6 rooms in my house. Guess Shade Store doesn't need a $30K order. I had the best experience working with Michael Dayton at the shade store in Strawberry Village. I had two custom shades made one for my guest bathroom and one for the hall in the guestroom. Michael was incredibly patient and so knowledgeable. He has excellent taste and help me so much to pick the right shades for these two areas. Everything went great. First a gentleman came out and measured both windows right on time. Once the shades were measured, I went back to meet with Michael and confirmed that I would be placing an order. Once the order was placed, the shades were shipped directly to me within say three weeks. I received a phone call and then a text advising when the installer will come. Everything went great. The shades look fantastic. They turned out beautiful and have really elevated the guest en suit. Working with Michael and the shades door installation teams with such a breeze. I am in the midst of a very disappointing experience at the Shade Store. After multiple visits to the store and spending a great deal of time with Emily to place my order, everything has been misrepresented, ordered improperly, and manufactured incorrectly. I'm not sure what else could wrong at this point. I'm still waiting to get a set of properly made shades nearly 3 months after placing the order. Emily seemed super competent and friendly. But the shade panels that she ordered for me were the wrong size. After speaking to customer service, I was informed that the shades she had designed for me could not even be manufactured in the particular dimensions we had agreed on. We had worked so hard together to figure out these shades, and the fact that her calculations were so off was dumbfounding. In addition, photos of the shades on the website (wall mounted panel blinds) conveniently have photoshopped out the really unattractive brackets with exposed screws that are installed. There is literally not one accurate photo available of these brackets. I meticulously reviewed all photos on their website to get and idea of how this product would look in my home. I visited the showroom 3 times prior to placing the order. These unattractive brackets, with exposed screws, are not shown on the website anywhere, not available to see in the showroom, and not shown to me by the showroom designer. I feel totally misled by the Shade Store. They are very unattractive, which is why they aren't shown anywhere! Lastly, a new set of replacement shades were finally delivered. They didn't fulfill what we had originally wanted because of Emily's miscalculations, but at this point, after investing so much time and money into the process, we moved forward. The second set of shades were poorly constructed. The vertical panels are held up by strips of velcro. The velcro has been sewn to the panels in such a way that the entire top of each panel is rippled and uneven. There seems to be zero quality control and consistency in production. I never leave bad yelp reviews, but felt the need to warn others. I was under the impression that this was the most high end and quality store to spend a lot of money on window treatments. Turns out I was wrong. Awful experience. read more

This may be the worst company in the US from customer service perspective. Buyer beware!!! The product is average and once you make that purchase you are no longer useful to them so they will treat you like dirt. The installation is sloppy and unprofessional and when you complain they could care less. Trying to schedule an appointment to have the shades fixed is a complete waste of time, they don't listen and genuinely don't care. If I could turn back the clock I would but now we are stuck with this awful product and horrendous customer service. read more

The Shade Store is very expensive, but ultimately they have good customer service and follow through, so I am giving them a 4-star review. I ordered one 'test' shade for $1,000 (expensive) before planning to order shades for all 8, or possibly 12, windows. It was a "top down bottom up" style of shade. Unfortunately, the 'test' shade did not go all the way down as we needed it to. Ultimately, after a ton of back-and-forth emails, several months later, Lisa Cohan at the Strawberry location kicked it up to a higher level, and the store will allow me to return it and they do plan to refund me. Barry Teitelbaum surprised me and really won me over with his efficiency and diplomacy. He turned a negative experience into a positive one. It is not easy to take a dissatisfied customer and turn them into a happy customer again, giving a strong 4-star review. Great job, Barry T! read more

Extremely disappointed with quality and customer service. Measurements were wrong from the beginning and the cord on the Roman shade rubs against the fabric each time we open them and wears at the fabric...tearing it each time. Customer service was very unhelpful and claims we are using the shades improperly. There is literally no other way to open them -- it was poor installation from the get go. They claim there is a lifetime warranty -- apparently not. I asked to speak with a manager and never heard back. Oh but they offered us a 25% discount to buy new shades! No thank you. I am an online shopper and when trying to replace the window covers for my bedroom, I went online and literally "landed"on the Shade Store website. Easy to navigate, helpful hints to take measures, and great optical helps to check samples and textures. Just a winner. Close to place my order, my wife decided we needed to go in-person to "really see" the samples... so there we went to the store in Strawberry Village in Mill Valley to find an elegant, comfy, welcoming and well decorated show room. Then, we met Emily Ritter who deserves 10 stars for excellent customer service. Although I ended placing the order online she made suggestions that were very helpful, and even gave us the magic solution to replace a hideous set of mirror doors for my closet... wonderful vertical panels. They look beautiful! Last but no least, I was wearing the installation, those people could be a different breed... but ours was quick, clean, efficient, fast and --believe it or not--thoughtful when dealing with an out-of-the code wall.
