I never heard of the Shade Store, but I did stumble upon the showroom while walking in Pasadena. I was welcomed by Melissa and she spent a lot of time going over the different options and materials. After getting the initial quote (expect to pay thousands), along with some of the negative reviews, I was a little hesitant to proceed to be honest. However, Melissa and Robbie's expertise assured me through the process. There was a hiccup because I noticed that the shipment date kept getting pushed out, so I had to call to figure out what was going on. It turns out that there was a measurement error so the shades were paused for production. This was concerning because I had a strict timeline. However, Melissa worked quickly to resolve the situation and provided frequent updates. My installer Robert was also very kind and knowledgeable. He came with his own shoe covers and a large trash bag for scraps and kept my home nice and clean. While there are definitely more cost-conscious alternatives in the market, I do believe the Shade Store delivered on quality, installation, and customer service. Perhaps all of the negative reviews did make an impact. I do believe that they could have done a better job following up on the shade production (otherwise the shades would not have been delivered by the time of my installation appointment), but they did their best to rectify the situation. I'm trying to replace 3 shades in my house. Was in Old Town, so I went into the Shade Store to see what they had. An extremely unpleasant woman made the visit brief, as she deemed quickly that we were not going to be a big order, answering questions curtly, and in a pedantic, impatient, non-conversational way. To be fair, I was asking for a ballpark idea of the cost of these blinds, which there may be a policy against. She insisted that in order to give me ANY IDEA she had to get someone out to my house for a measurement. I know exactly what the measurements are, as this is not rocket science, and I am an experienced seamstress. I didn't want to waste my time or their time in making an appointment if the shades were beyond my budget. Certainly a range could have been given. Even if the policy precluded that , she could have been ALOT nicer. As it went down, I wouldn't buy Shades from them if it was the last place on earth that sold them. read more

I purchased two white roller shades to be installed in my kitchen windows in September 2024 with Patricia Reyes. Without asking or informing me, the ShadeStore employee who came to do the measurements, provided measurements to Patricia and the ShadeStore factory for roller shades to be mounted on top of my window frame, not within my window frame. He measured them to protrude on top of my frame which looked very clunky and unprofessional. Had I known that would be the case, I would have asked them for an alternate design but the reason I did not confirm the measurements with him before he left my house is because I was at work and I had hired ShadeStore to install roller shades for me in my bathroom in the 2020, and they did a fantastic job and everything was mounted within the window frames. I contacted Patricia after the fact in October 2024 to have them fix it but her explanation was that because the two windows had different depths, mounting in the outside was the only option. I really didn't like her explanation because I should have been told that was going to happen and ultimately protruding 2.5 inches on top of my window frame looks far worse than one of my windows protruding 1.25 inches. I escalated my case to the client experience manager, Anthony Semenza, but Anthony told me I had to purchase brand new shades but that he would offer me a 20% discount. This is hardly the resolution I wanted, especially since the 2 shades already cost me well over a thousand dollars. I asked Anthony and Patricia if we could adjust my existing shade but they said the absolute only option was to purchase brand new shades. I'm very disappointed with this outcome because I should have been consulted that the shades would protrude from on top of my window frame before they were installed and I should have been given an option to decide how to move forward. My nanny was home during the installation because I was at work, so by the time I came home from work, the installation was already completed. read more

AVOID! Beautiful product, zero customer service support after. The shades are gorgeous, with a (supposed) lifetime warranty. Four years ago, we bought $25K worth of shades for the entire house via our interior designer, who gets an industry discount, and thus we spent $19K. We have had a few minor issues - broken strings, etc. - over the past few years and TSS would promptly send a repairman within a week or two. But now (Fall '24), we again have a minor issue (broken string on a Roman shade), and I simply cannot schedule a repairman. I contacted TSS and received an email the next day asking for pics, so I was hopeful, but he claims not to have received my pics or emails. I have emailed multiple times, always cordial and friendly, but no longer do I receive a reply. This person lives in FL & is the only one (!) who can schedule a repairman, despite my living in CA. It is insane that TSS would operate this way. I even went into the Pasadena store on Colorado to try to resolve it, but they redirected me to the scheduler in FL. Check out the BBB ratings for Fall 2024; I am apparently not the only one who is having major customer service issues. It is surreal that I cannot get this shade repaired.... read more

Robert finally installed our curtains properly after many months of communication with Shade Store and multiple visits from multiple installers. Luckily this time we got Robert. Our curtains have finally been installed properly. Unfortunately the fabric developed memory of the improper installation. Hopefully with time gravity can train the curtains to look decent. I would give a 2.5 star review if I could. Shade Store charges entirely too much money to employ so many installers that do not know what they are doing. After great effort on the part of some amazing folks at Shade Store I am unfortunately left with a lesser opinion of the product. If you are looking for window dressings, please do yourself a favor, and look into other options. If you find that Shade Store is the best choice for you I recommend requesting Robert for installation. read more

Our sliding door curtains were just installed and they match the living room and bedroom perfectly. It took about a month to have it ordered, manufactured and sent to my home to wait for the installation, so don't expect anything overnight. For category A curtains and shades, the mounting track is free, which sounded great to me. The selection for Category A is the entry level, but I could not see any difference in the Category B or C that would have changed my mind. Workers wear shoe covers and make sure the area is clean for installation and leave with a clean curtain tied for 48 hours to ensure the drapes have their pleats intact. Patricia at the Shade Store will smile at you and tell you exactly what you want to hear to get you to spend money, and then once you've spent it, she will dodge your calls, not respond to emails, and take zero accountability for faulty products, poor installations, and a customer service team that can be described as apathetic, at best. She is dismissive of your needs, and careless with follow up. She becomes immediately defensive at the first mention of fault, and puts in no effort to try and help. If they get something wrong, you have to start all the way back over from scratch which means re-ordering product, waiting weeks for it to arrive, and then hoping they have a technician with availability to come and re-install it weeks after that. All in all you'll find yourself thousands of dollars and several months down the hole for something that should be able to be done in half the time and half the cost. Save your time and money and go anywhere else. They don't care about you, they don't care about your project, and they won't be there to help when it inevitably goes wrong. read more

The sales ladies in the store are great. That is about it. Once you order and pay, it is downhill from there. These shades are not cheap and it is not worth it. We had two windows incorrectly measured by their install team, which required a lengthy delay and the shades had to be sent back to be remade. After we received the fixed shade the install guy horribly scuffed up my brand new painted walls in our house we had just moved into for less than 3 months. Now the customer service is horrible because we have an issue and complaint. Save your money don't use them! read more

We just received our installation of floor-to-ceiling drapery lined for black-out in our primary bedroom to cover a pair of sliding glass doors, along with a pleated accordion-type black-out shade for a wide window and a third window accordion black-out shade for the room. Everything turned out just as we wanted and ordered. It was a long selection process over 2 or 3 visits (that's the way we are!), and we were helped by Gracia, and when she wasn't there, by Robbie. Both are patient and excellent representatives. John our installer was very experienced and everything went smoothly. We are going to need to order even more window coverings in our new home and we plan to continue the relationship with this store and this team. read more

A few months ago I decided to purchase some custom shades for my Mid- Century home and I chose The Shade Store in Pasadena. There were so many choices I found it difficult to select the best style and color for my house. The design consultant, Deborah Godert, was very patient as I returned several times before I made a decision. She showed me several design options to help me choose the appropriate style, color, and brackets. When the day came for the shades to be installed, I was quite excited. When the installer finished, however, I was sorely disappointed. The shades themselves looked great but they looked crooked and ill fitting. I immediately called the main office where they told me not to worry the store would make good on my purchase. Next, I called Deborah who was going to troubleshoot and resolve the issues. She was very positive about correcting the problems and said I would be happy when they finished. She sent out John Colca, one of their top installers, to evaluate the situation. When he arrived he immediately recognized the problem. He was very knowledgeable and very honest about my shades; my house was old and the window frames were not square or level. He said I needed different shades and different brackets to cover up the inconsistencies in the windows. Before Deborah reordered new shades she sent John back again to remeasure and verify the window sizes. She has been so communicative, supportive, and knowledgable. She always gives great feedback and develops solutions/ideas. I also really appreciate how patient and kind she has been when we have been super indecisive about things. The customer service level, attention to detail and promptness have been AMAZING. These shades are definitely more premium and costlier than other shades out there but you will not get the level of care and high-quality value that you will get at this place. Amanda at the shade store was so helpful in walking me through the selection of my roller blinds. The experience of shopping at the shade store was very nice- the store is expertly decorated and appointed and the flexibility/options of shades is truly lovely. This is why shopping in person is so much more rewarding and easier than on-line. We were able to come up with a plan for my house quite quickly - they had all my measurements saved- and the custom shades arrived soon after. We unfortunately have had the worst experience with the Shade Store. We paid nearly 10K for shades & installation, and the back and fourth has been horrendous, my husband and I both work full time and just trying to arrange these shades has felt like an additional job. We didn't get the renderings that we should have so when the product arrived they were completely different to what was explained to us. More back and fourth and we change them out, it finally gets to the day they are suppose to be installed (over a month from placing the order and payment) they show up and say the store has not delivered the product although we were told they had been.... The worst service of my life! The salesperson was so unbelievably rude! I dont know if she had a bad Thanksgiving or if she hates her job or if she's a racist... I don't think I've ever been treated so badly by a sales person. I made an inquiry through the Yelp app and they reached out and asked me to come in. I have never purchased shades or blinds in my life and they asked me to come in for an initial consultation, so I did. I wasn't excited about going to the store but it was close enough and since I didn't have any experience I was willing to go. When I arrived there was one person and the reception desk and one sitting at a desk in the back. Immediately the red head in the back said she has a 12 o'clock as if she didn't want to assist me. She reluctantly walked over and asked how she could help. I said I made an inquiry and was asked to come in and that I needed shades. She snootily said well you came to the right place... did you want to look around? I basically knew what I wanted but decided I would look at the different styles. She then asked if I had questions and I said well I need shades and you guys asked me to come in so I'm here, waiting for some direction or reason that I needed to come in. Again she rudely said well it's your project... I ignored the tone and said I would be interested in the woven shades but thought that they could be see through at night. She asked if that was a question or...? At this point I was done. I said I didn't think this interaction was going well and that I didn't need to put up with this to spend money. She said she agreed. The person at the reception desk didn't interject or try to assist so as far as I'm concerned she's just as culpable. We have 5 large windows in our living room and wanted to replace the old blinds with linen shades. Amanda Pomeroy went above and beyond and beyond and beyond for us. She worked with us in person in the store and over email to get the shades to be the perfect texture, color, lining, and operation that we wanted. She never complained that we changed our minds or went back and forth and she spent soo many hours with us to get them perfect. We had our motorized roman shades with the whisper lining installed yesterday and could not be happier. We LOVE them so much! The installers were so professional and before stepping foot in our house, they took off their shoes and had HOUSE SLIPPERS with them!!!! Amazing! I choose the Shade Store knowing it was a pricier option, but willing to pay for professional expertise. I paid in full at the time of order as demanded. Unfortunately, things did NOT go well. My project, uncountable correspondence and 3 months to complete. Measurements done by their technician were inaccurate causing shade sent to not be installable. Second set of blinds were defective. Thirds time was a charm, but now they are branded 'Select Blinds'. Hmm wondering if I could have done this whole thing through the less expensive dealer more efficiently??? While the technicians and sales persons were pleasant, it was completely automated service. Even when I asked to speak to a administrator, it was days between replies. NEVER AGAIN! 2/15/2020 UPDATE - I was contacted within 24 hours of my Yelp posting by a Shade Store representative. They have credited my account generously for my trouble. Also asked me to consider modification/removal of my comments on Yelp. My only regret, at this point, is that they weren't more concerned for me as a customer until they perceived a threat to their outward facing image. read more

Poor service on second job we hired this store for, after having a good experience the first time around. Second job involved more windows, we waited more than a month for the installation appointment, and then store sent one installer for a two installer job. So the installer was only able to finish two of the five windows. The company sent the wrong size shade and valance for one of the other windows, and forgot to include a solar panel for yet another of the windows. The installer was very apologetic; the store / company reps far less so. They only acknowledge the wrong size product; they did not acknowledge that more windows could have been completed on time if they had sent two installers as they should have; or the fact that they were missing a product from the order. And, they are requiring us to wait another 30 days to complete the job; unwilling to accelerate. When we asked if they could at least complete the installations for the product we have on hand, but needs two installers for, the Pasadena store salesperson said "the Company does not work that way." She suggested if we are dissatisfied with this response, we could cancel our order. Incredible. What ever happened to good customer service? The salt in the wound: the company requires you pay 100% of the costs of the job upfront. Hopefully the second job we paid a lot of money for will be done in the next thirty days. read more

Poor quality and worst customer service. We spent about $60,000 on a whole house drapes and blinds. What we got is months of Headaches; poor quality and bad, rude, and unapologetic responses. All they care about is getting your money and give you excuses and run around answers. Paint was coming off chains, mechanisms were broken, installation was inconsistent, and the fabric was in different length. The installers were mostly rude and made it sound like it was our fault that the quality was inexcusably. I finally was contacted by a person who was able and willing to help. She scheduled the service for the next day and issued a credit as an apology. We appreciate her efforts and the fact that there is still someone who is competent working for the corp. read more

I just received my solar shades ordered from Deb Godert at the Pasadena CA Showroom and am very happy with them! They arrived quickly and each one was wrapped and labeled very nicely. My husband installed them and commented how easy they were to hang. I love the grey shade with black bracket and chain. Deb was very thorough explaining the different options to ensure I was ordering the proper shades for each room. Her attention-to-detail is excellent! We had our shades installed (after a month of waiting and then after an incorrect install they had to come back) last fall. We've been living with them now for many months and they NEVER lift evenly and the cords are impossible to operate. Even on our pull chain that's meant to lift the entire shade, it is never even. We spend at least five minutes dealing with each shade every time we want to operate them. At thousands of dollars per shade this is insane. We never even want to use them now and might as well not have them! We have reached out to try to get them returned or get some money back as they are essentially inoperable, but they only "honor their warranty" by saying they can send someone to fix the issue (I'm sure that won't happen for months in Shadestore typical fashion). The truth is these are just poorly manufactured shades and I would like some money back as the cost is ridiculous for all the issues. read more

This is my 2nd purchase from The Shade Store in Pasadena. Ordered automated roller shades. They are not cheapest, but quality is good. I did not give them 5 stars because the delivery service they use will only leave goods at the door, which makes it very difficult for customer to carry the heavy stuff inside the house. I want to give a big compliment to Chip Snell of The Shade Store. He was willing to come over to help me carry the stuff upstairs, even though he did not handle my order ( so gets no credit for my sale) I finally managed without his help, but the fact is he was willing to go above & beyond his job duty. I met with Deborah at the Pasadena location, who was patient and provided excellent feedback and suggestions for the 13 windows I was covering.
