My experience with The Shade Store has been an absolute nightmare. I would urge anyone considering hiring them to stay away. I ordered two Roman shades and two drapes. First of all, the communication and response time from my salesperson has been very slow, if she responds at all. The warehouse couldn't find the fabric I had shipped for one of my drapes for a month and no one thought of informing me. It wasn't until multiple requests by me asking for the status of the drapes that they finally let me know they couldn't find the fabric and asked for tracking information. They had the fabric the whole time. You would think that they would expedite the drapes at that time but no, I now need to wait another month. So with that one set of drapes still in construction, I had the two shades and drapes set to install. However, the measurements taken by the Shade Store professional were wrong. One shade was too large to install, the second shade was too short and didn't cover my frame on the bottom, and the drapes were too long. It took two weeks of me calling and emailing almost everyday to finally be told that they were going to remake the two shades, and they will not be expedited. As for the drapes, they are wanting to pick them up and fix them but the soonest appointment they had for them to get picked up was over two weeks. In the meantime, I asked them to ensure that the second set of drapes still in construction be the correct length. They said they needed to come out and remeasure but they did not have an appointment available until after the drapes are set to be shipped. I have spoken to supervisors and tried to get them to expedite the measurement so that those drapes do not have to be redone but it seems that the different departments do not communicate well with each other and I have yet to receive an answer. How can it be that all four items I purchased were measured incorrectly? It takes over two weeks just to get an approval for remaking them? And then another month, at least, to remake them? I highly regret contracting them and I hope that this review will save someone else from making the same mistake. read more

Beautiful, elegant and traditional, hanging from rustic rods long sweeping to the floor. They lasted 12 years, but the heat from the sun really damaged them causing shredding and dusting of the material. Time for a new look. Amanda helped me make my decision. Roller shades in a solar heat blocking material in a clean, minimalist look. My room was a formal sitting room. It is now a home Pilates studio. I wanted window dressings to convey a non-fussy look. My partner and I wandered into The Shade Store on a holiday weekend and, depending on our experience could have easily looked at the pretty showroom and walked out or been converted customers. I'm happy to report we fell into the customer category. We were quickly greeted by sales associate Kathy Alger in a welcoming, no-pressure fashion. She asked appropriate questions, seemed genuinely interested and was ready to help whether it meant a sale that day or not. After reviewing photos of our new home online, Kathy listened to our wants / desires, budget restrictions and made great recommendations and prepared a preliminary quote that was promptly emailed to us. A few days later -- after helpful discussions via email and phone-- we placed an order for our awesome gray solar shades (with 3% opacity to preserve our pretty hillside view). From start to finish the process was just what you'd hope for: Great communication, easy scheduling, good follow-up, quick installation, exceptional quality. I'm really happy with the modern look my sliding vertical panel treatments give the living room. Customer service (Amanda and technician who came to measure) were excellent and the RST installation (by Jose) was done perfectly in 30 minutes. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I believe the price of at least their draperies is higher than competitors. But I don't know if the customer service and attention to detail exists with those other vendors. One of the pieces connecting the baton also hits the brackets if you don't position properly so I think if this panel track has slightly more room between the bracket and the baton (1/8 inch) there won't be any risk of it brushing with the bracket screw. We recently had shades installed throughout our entire house (40 shades in total) and we are very pleased with them. What drew us to The Shade Store was their vast array of materials and styles to choose from: we ordered several batches online as well as sampled a few in store. Amanda, our showroom representative, was a delight to work with. We came into the store with an open mind, but with also very little understanding of how looks, functionality, and logistics might affect our window treatment choices. From the beginning, Amanda understood our design preferences and guided us through the entire process, suggesting specific treatments and textiles that would achieve our design goals. After choosing our shades and the materials, technicians came to perform measurements at our home. Our technicians were always on time and always professional. We chose a couple of different shade styles which were later delivered directly to our home. Technicians then arrived again to install the shades (all 40 of them) and by the end of one work day everything was done. We were in the market for shades and made The Shade Store our first stop to just check out what was available. They were also our last stop. I'm not a picky customer at all, and I'm in retail business so that I'm really understandable. But this place is awful. Oct 11th, I came in the store to schedule the measurement. Oct 17th, First installation guy came in. Have a wrong measurement. Oct 20th, Second measurement. Nov 11th, Whole order arrived. Nov 12th, First installation. And the installation technician think the order was wrong. However The Shade Store think there's only a 7 inch difference, yea 7 inches difference aren't a big deal for $3,500 shade. Nov 14, called in, no solution Nov 15, called in & emailed, no solution Nov 16, called in still waiting for solution. Now they demand me to print a shipping label, send everything back to their factory and wait another loop to get it installed. I bought a $20 mop and Amazon sent me the wrong staff, they do know use UPS pick up service for the. What is everyone thinking in this store? read more

We bought a new house and needed window coverings on 10 windows and 2 sliding glass doors. Amanda in the Pasadena store was very helpful in color matching and shade type selections. We followed her recommendation on the curtain drape for the sliding glass door and are happy we did. Be advised that the work takes more time than other stores so be patient. Installers were very professional and set everything up in 2 hours. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. We recommend going with The Shade Store if you want quality window coverings. read more

This has been a mixed bag experience for us. Went into the store early July for some shades to help with the light pollution in our bedroom (prepping for a baby and we thought we should have a darkened room for naps and such). Had a great experience in the store with Amanda who guided us through the various types of shades that would make sense for our situation, and then planned for the free window measurements. Took home some fabric swatches and waited for the measurements appointment. Day of, person who is supposed to come calls, he's in traffic, will be another hour. Hour later, person calls and says he's been stuck and won't be able to make it after all, but someone will call and arrange a new appointment. Well, there goes my PTO. I waited 2 business days before calling into the Shade Store myself, the Pasadena store connects me to the office that handles measurements, next availability is in 3 weeks! Sigh, fine, we'll do it. This time the guy comes and everything is smooth. Got the final quote from Amanda, made sure our address and all the details of the shades (color of the brackets, color of the chain) are in order, we wait for the shades to be delivered before we can schedule the installation (additional cost). Things are a little tight since my due date is coming up, but it looks like everything will be in place. Day of appointment (yesterday), I get a call saying the guy is a little behind schedule. Two hours later, I get a call saying the guy can no longer make it. IS THIS A PATTERN? I didn't realize I would have to schedule 4 appointments for both the measurements and the installations, they try to schedule the installation to take place in 3 weeks. At this point, I go berserk. The best she can do is write a note in my file asking for my appointment to be moved up as early as possible. I ask who I can call to complain, she mentioned headquarters. Ugh. I waited half an hour to calm my nerves, and then call the Pasadena store to voice my concerns about this experience. Amanda picks up, and I'm not angry AT anyone, I'm just frustrated that it's 4 days before my due date and these shades haven't been installed. Amanda is incredibly patient, apologizes profusely, and tries to figure out how to solve the situation. We end the call with nothing really changed, because she's not in charge of the scheduling for installation. I get a call at 6pm (9pm EST) from Hulon in New York, I'm guessing from headquarters, saying he can fit in an appointment today, if that's ok with me. YES, please get this done! He tells me I can call this New York number, his cell phone, in case I need anything. So they take their customer service seriously. I give them a lot of credit for doing all of this outside of business hours. Today, the guy came at an appropriate time. Everything is installed, and Amanda sent me flowers thanking us for our patience. So what would have been a 0 star experience has been salvaged thanks to the efforts of Amanda and Hulon from New York. Truly, their calm demeanor and their efficiency in resolving this situation went a long way for me. Although, in my order I asked for black brackets, but the brackets that got installed are silver. :/ It's fine. They're up. read more

I've spent a miserable 8 months dealing with The Shade Store as they made my drapery incorrectly SIX times. All due to errors on their end. One of their sales representatives tried to blame the weather and me for picking this particular material, trying to claim that "linen shrinks" when everyone else said I could expect the linen to stretch over time. It was never going to stretch the 2-3 inches required for the curtains to reach the desired length though. Their communication is awful. They even canceled an additional measurement appointment THEY SAID I NEEDED without telling me so I wasted an entire day waiting around for them. They cost me actual vacation time and money with the number of failed install appointments, and when I requested a full refund of the drapery after the 6th time they were made, they said they could only do half. Save yourself a long-lasting headache and avoid The Shade Store. They will waste your time and never properly compensate you when all the problems are caused by them and their poor communication. Don't trust them. You're required to pay in-full up front, and once they have your money, there's no guarantee you won't end up in a hellish chain of getting passed along from employee to employee. I am upset that I have to write this review. My first experience with Amanda (sales associate) was wonderful but it has gone downhill fast. The wrong sized product was shipped and installed. The company told me they measured correctly but shipped the wrong sized product. Then, a week into using the roller shades, it started to get holes. I suspect this has to do with incorrect measuring / wrong product installed. We decided to go in a different direction (drapes) and were paired with a different sales associate, Meghan. She is never in the office, has week long delays to emails after I follow up, I've had to ask the same question multiple times (I'm STILL waiting on answers to questions, samples, and design recommendations) and sometimes when we communicate, it's like she forgot all about the project and what has already been decided, etc. The delays and non-responsiveness to design questions continues to occur after I expressed my desire to get this finished ASAP. We started this project in February... We FINALLY received the renderings today and they are HORRIBLE. Megan admitted that and told us they are being re-done. I'm upset I've had delay after delay and then when we finally receive renderings (4 days after promised) they are horrible and need to be redone. For context, it's one room with three identical windows and a picture of the room has been provided. Weeks ago I asked for suggestions on sheer fabrics and blackout fabrics and to send samples -- I'm still waiting and I've asked for thoughts/help multiple times. We are spending a ton of money for custom drapes and this is not at all the experience we expected. I'm not sure what happened but what started out as a fantastic experience has become laughable and beyond frustrating. read more

The associates at the Pasadena office are stellar, as everyone has mentioned in previous posts. They helped me pick out a product that would fit my needs and addressed my concerns. The order was placed in an expeditious manner, and I eagerly awaited my product. The product came in as promised but the installation team was backlogged a few weeks. We hired someone else to do the install because it was super straightforward. Anyway, of the four shades ordered, one came with the cord lock on the incorrect side. This was February 13th and we are still waiting for the replacement shade. Once you are finished with the order, the Pasadena office is no longer involved in the process. You deal with corporate, and it has been inconvenient. Lastly, these shades are priced on the above average side. However, the quality is, at best, average. Most people who have seen them at my home will ask, "WOW, these are nice. How much?" When I tell them the price, the response has been unanimously a paraphrasing of "You got ripped off." Someone asked if my mother had sewn them! In hindsight, I wish I had ordered the pricier ones from other companies because, while those cost more, the quality is exponentially greater. My roman shades look when they are folded up entirely. Still waiting for a replacement shade. read more

Had a great experience from start to finish at The Shade Store Pasadena. Our salesperson was Meghan Kearney and she worked with us from the day we walked into the store up to installation. She never rushed us, showed us different swatches and renderings and helped us at every step. With Meghan's help we decided on roller shades with some solar protection and electronic motors. Adam (sorry! I don't have his last name) was the person who took the measurements for us. He called to give us a half hour notice he was on the way, and was very thorough. Our floors didn't require protective booties but he had them anyway! He was friendly but still efficient and helped me to understand how the sliding glass doors we were covering are affected by the roller shades. There were a couple of tricky measurements and he took the time to be sure the installer would be ok if it was not him. I really appreciated the time he took to explain things but he was also quick in measuring. He also knew Meghan and had worked with her many times. I like the way this company communicates. Finally the shades were delivered and our installer was Alex Almorei. Alex was the final touch, and he was so thorough and precise I knew we were in good hands. Again, a call one half hour before arrival. This is thoughtful when a company recognizes some people have to leave work to meet people doing work at their home. Alex was friendly and very professional. He measured, checked and checked again. Our house is on a hill, so that doesn't make it easy because the floor to ceiling measurements are not always the same. Alex worked it out, got everything looking great, and took the time to walk me through using the remote control. He also cleaned everything up and took the boxes out to our trash bin. This was a great experience from start to finish and I would definitely recommend The Shade Store. read more

I went to the Shade Store. Have a small arched window and a front door that both have a special glass with a specific frosted design. I was getting direct sunlight and it would have been a serious job, replacing the window and door. Anyway - I was able to walk away with 3 swatches from The Shade Store. No pressure - just super helpful at the store! I ordered the one I thought would work - admittedly still a bit nervous that it might not be solid enough to do the job. I believe I purchase the "1" - which may have to do with the tightness of the weave. Also specific to block out sun. Anyway - it came. I installed it and I love it!!!! It definitely keeps the warmth of the direct sunlight out and yet sheer enough to have a faint view of outside. The sheer quality adds a clean and luxurious touch to my room. When the sun comes in - there is light but it's perfectly muted. I really love it! Now I have to be honest - it's past the 114 degree day that we recently had -- so that will be the true test. My only regret is that I didn't go to them for the rest of my home. I went to Home Depot and that was a nightmare. I'm also now living with Home Depot shades that I hate. It hurts...Ha! Oh well. Maybe I'll go back to the shade store next year. For now they are paid for! :( My recommendation...spend the money at The Shade Store. It's worth it! I worked with Chip Snell at the Colorado Ave store in Pasadena, where they have many options to consider for your particular needs. Chip understood exactly what I felt I needed and with a few informed comments from him, we settled on the final order. He also arranged delivery specifically for the difficult delivery issues at my condo, which I appreciated. They sent a professional to measure who was on time and did the technical work to get the important measurements right, which was something I did not feel comfortable doing on my own. I was able to take advantage of a Shade Store sale discount which, happily, reduced a fairly expensive order. I was alerted to the delivery date/time and William, the installer, was on time, courteous and installed the new shade efficiently and totally to my satisfaction. read more

I am very frustrated with them. I went in to the store, no one come to ask me if I need help. I have to wait for 5 mins until someone came talk to me. Then Christi took down my information, but all wrong. Wrong name, wrong number. I waited two days for the installation team to call, but never got call from them. I finally called them and that's how I found out my information was all wrong. I asked to change to correct name and number, and made another installation appointment. Again, missed them because they got my number wrong again! I don't know why is that hard to type correct information for customer?? The selection of fabrics and functions give the shopper a real nice experience when outfitting a single window or an entire home. Every step of the order is traceable and our sales staff kept us updated on the status regularly. Oh man this place is so good. I needed a set of blackout shades for a music studio, which is in a remodeled 100-year-old house, so everything had weird measurements. Sales associate Meghan Kearney was awesome about communicating exactly what measurements they would need, and how different placement of the shades would affect appearance and effectiveness, and spent the extra time to get extra details for a custom valance that would fit exactly over a the trim of a big French door. The results are amazing. The shades arrived with crystal clear instructions for [a remarkably easy] installation, and the everything fit into their respective places like pieces in a puzzle.
