I received the invoice for this new job and have not heard from them since. When I texted and emails to check in, all my emails bounced back and their cell phone numbers send me direct to voicemail (and green text messages when previously it was blue/iMessage). We really wanted smart shades compatible with HomeKit, so Hunter Douglas was the way to go. After checking some reviews of local HD vendors, John seemed like a good option. We went to his showroom and he walked us through the options. He was kind, personable, and genuinely seemed to want the best fit for our lifestyle. He took the time to understand the use case for each room so that we picked the right shades. (Not gonna lie, these shades were an investment! Like $7k+. And our house is not big.) They were definitely worth it, as we love the new shades! John's installer did a fantastic job and even came back to perfect a couple things (one shade was squeaky, and one was leaking a tiny bit of light. Not John's fault, just random stuff with the shades). I would highly recommend him to anyone needing window treatments. John is the best! read more

So glad I found Designer Window Fashions via Yelp. There were a few to choose from but I think we got among the very best in town. John's knowledge, helpfulness, patience and excellent humour got us through the chore of making the right selection for a large skylight with power assisted blinds. Something alien to us. I would never recommend this place to anyone. They came back 4 times to measure my windows. The order came in wrong. They rescheduled the installer twice. Then the installer showed up 4 1/2 hours late. It took him 3 hrs before he started installing and was at my place for 7 1/2 hours until 10:00 pm. It took them 3 weeks before they came and remeasured again. Told me I'd have the correct blinds in 2 weeks. 6 weeks later I finally got my blinds. Asked to talk with owner 10 times. She'd never talk to me. They would never be honest and just tell me the correct arrival date. Just be honest..... read more

I've talked to three different people, called everyday to follow up for a week plus, and I've sent photos to two employees. Do not use this Hunter Douglas retailer. In July 2022, I had a rather expensive blackout shade installed by this HD retailer where I had spent thousands of dollars over the years. In November, the shade's cords came undone. I called Designer Window Fashions, figuring that they would take care of the issue since the shade was so new. Not only were they less than prompt in responding to me, they wanted to charge me $175 (or $170 or $160; the price changed with the various people I spoke to). The business had come under new management. The former owner (John) was wonderful, but the new owner (Maria) felt no obligation to me at all, not even to return my calls when I tried to schedule a repair person. I called Hunter Douglas corporate office, explained my situation, and emailed them my July 2022 invoice. They stepped up; found me a different Hunter Douglas retailer in the area (Allbright Window Fashions and Flooring); and paid the service charge for the repair of the cords. I love Hunter Douglas window coverings, and I was impressed by the way their corporate office handled this matter. So, I recommend Hunter Douglas, but I would avoid Designer Window Fashions. Back in 2015, when we purchased over $15,000 worth of Hunter Douglas items in 6 rooms, John McDonough was awesome!!! He was courteous and diligent....in taking our money....now that everything is installed and things are breaking and needs repairing....John McDonough is sooooo busy! We have called him 3 times to ask for him to come back and repair things.....every time he comes up with an excuse why he can't come over....we initially contacted him on 9/18/17. He said he would get back to us and was trying to buy time....we contacted him again on 9/22/17....still just excuses.....we contacted him again 10/30/17 and still no reply. We ended up contacting Patty at Kao's Designs in Walnut, CA who did our Hunter Douglas windows at our office. They answered the phone and arrived within 24 hours of our conversation and repaired everything John did not. They apparently forgot that the after-sale service is equally as important as the original sale. read more

This is actually an updated review, as I originally wrote for the first time in 2019. I have had such excellent service that I wanted to let other people looking for window treatments know that John, the owner, has gone way above and beyond to help me with problems with the Hunter Douglas shades for my picture window. It was very frustrating that the shades kept clicking and the remote controls would cease working. He came to my house 3 times in 3 weeks on his lunch hour to diagnose and try to adjust them. He would set the remotes, then leave and 2 hours later they would cease to work again! Finally, he arranged for these 4 shades to be repaired with new controls. Then he notified me that the company was actually going to manufacture all new shades for me! I am very happy that John came himself and installed the new shades which now work perfectly, as well as the new remote controls. If every business had such caring customer service, shopping would be a breeze. I would attach photos, but I am not so gifted in that area! Highly recommend. read more

John at Designer Window Fashions was truly professional, prompt, and courteous from the start to the finish of our interactions. Ironically, I ended up not purchasing what I had intended to purchase, due in part to his diligence with Hunter Douglass and his clear commitment to make sure I was a satisfied customer. It is not every day that a business recommends that a customer NOT order an expensive product. Specifically, I was seeking to have special shades that would totally blacken a room, and the advertisements (and the person on the phone) at Hunter Douglass affirmed that these shades would do the trick. John spent time with me figuring out the optimal materials and colors and promptly ordered them. His technician who came to measure was also prompt and courteous. Along the way, however, John went the extra mile to make sure that these shades would indeed totally blacken a room. (After all, any black-out shades purchased at a big box store will do a decent job, so these high-end and pricey items should do better, right?). When John detected that HD representatives were being ambiguous in their responses, he actually ordered a piece of the shade frame to inspect its ability to block light. Sadly, it does a poor job, and he and I both agreed that the manufacturer could have easily designed a much better product. Thus, John recommended against their "block-out" shades, I agreed, and he refunded my money on the spot. Yes, it is frustrating that I am back to Square 1, but thanks to John, I don't have extremely expensive (north of $1200.00) custom shades installed that do not accomplish what is advertised. Bottom line: John was a real pro in a situation where he could have simply blamed the manufacturer and taken his profit. Instead, he forfeited his sale in order to spare me major disappointment, and preserved something much more important in the process: integrity. I know that I will have no hesitation using him for any future window treatment needs because it is clear that: 1) he knows the trade, 2) he demands excellence, and 3) he places customer satisfaction far above profit. read more
