The Shade Store . Should be the Shady Store Truly difficult to describe how poor this experience was Overpriced and underperformed. It began Sep 20 when I paid for order. That's when they stopped caring. They delivered the shades early November. All the wrong sizes because their guy measured incorrectly. Seems he didn't notice a stair in the floor. Hard to miss that. It's part of the FLOOR. Said they'd have them installed by Christmas. Redelivered December 13 with an install date of Jan 3 that's after the holidays unless you celebrate 3 kings day. BTW when they deliver they just drop boxes at your door which you have to store until installation date weeks later Horrible installation. All exposed hardware. The screws don't even match. I'll have to replace them and then come up with a way to cover it all up Truly horrible Please. Do yourself a favor. Stay away. The beautiful store and nice people will fool you. Melissa has been nothing but helpful since I started shopping for shades. She walked me through different types of shades and made sure I know the pros and cons of each. We worked with Terra at this location and she was fabulous. As Costco members, we are often loyal to Costco. We looked at the company that Costco uses in the estimate was about the same. What was different was the variety in fabric choices that they had available. The shade store has really beautiful linens and fabulous fiber fabrics. The choices felt more contemporary and more luxe. We did custom Roman shades and had remote control mechanical blinds on a number of windows. These were not cheap and my husband and I of course picked the most expensive fabric. That said, they changed our home. Terra was beyond informative and knowledgeable. She knew what would make the most sense for convenience and what would be a pain in the butt. She really helped us find the perfect practicality and aesthetic for our home. Super happy with the choice. The installer, Gabriel did a wonderful job hanging everything perfectly steaming them and explaining the remote control. Cannot rave more about this company. I imagine many people would be turned off by the idea of a store that has multiple locations, but I can assure you that the quality, the service, and the sales persons are top of the line. read more

These guys must be printing so much money they have no time to call you back. Could have taken my money (at twice what I ended up paying to be honest) but their lazy sales reps never call you back with estimates they promised to put together. They also do not listen or pay attention to what you email or ask about, frankly. I basically did all the work for them and they still could not get it together. If you use Shade Store (they do have very nice materials), I would highly recommend a more organized location. read more

My family and I have not purchased any shades or drapery of any kind from The Shade Store (TSS) but we did stop in their showroom and check 'em out. We were so impressed with their displays as well as the options of fabric swatches, their showroom was beautiful and their staff were so friendly. I am interested in buying through them, especially because they offer a limited lifetime guarantee but I am becoming more weary of that idea because of some of the reviews that I've read. I really appreciated the fact that there were so many swatches to look through and to consider. I think I may still go through TSS for my needs but so far, I have nothing but positive things to say about TSS. I'll try to remember to update my review if e do decide to purchase through them. read more

Great customer service and friendly team, definitely an awesome source if you have no financial concerns. But, was able to get the same material/achieve the goal of having manual roller shades on two windows for thousands less. Spent an hour in store expressing project goals, and i'm on a budget, denied automatic option to further express budget, waited for a two quotes that ranged from about $3k-$4k lol. Misleading quotation technique used as well which is a huge turnoff "shipping is free!", "Sale, -$853!", to make you feel like you're getting a great deal. So without this particular "sale", one quote would have been $5k, for two rectangular manual optioned windows. Fluctuating labor costs on the same exact dimensions/windows as well. Definitely thinking about getting in the shade business if most people/reviews think the connection between their material/labor costs really meet the job total. read more

We worked with Terra and the whole process was absolutely seamless. We picked out the shades we wanted (so many choices) and then we were always kept up to date about when they would come in and how they would be installed. Someone came to measure every window to make sure when they were installed everything was up to par. So, When the install team came to install all the shades it was a little later in the day and because of that, the gentleman brought a partner to help get the job done faster. Which was so awesome! I got connected with Tiffany after ordering swatches online. She was very helpful and patient in helping me determine which products to buy (I ended up changing direction from drapes to Roman shades based on her input), and could not be happier with the result. The shades look great, fit perfectly, and are well made. Being able to obtain swatches by mail is a big help, and the online interface for this is great. Five stars for Tiffany's service, and for the overall product and fulfillment process. One note: The screws supplied to attach the shades to the window header are too short for window frames that are covered in drywall. I installed the shades only to have them fall off the wall on the first tug on the chain. The screws aren't long enough to go through the shade itself, through the drywall, and then get good purchase in the wood framing. I had to go to the hardware store for longer screws and re-install the shades. I recommend The Shade Store review what screws they provide and also their installation instructions. read more

I've been wanting shades for my house for so long and choosing a shade store when there's so many of them out there is daunting!! We chose The Shade Store. They have such a huge variety to choose from and the quality is outstanding. They range from shades to Roman shades to drapery and it's all custom made to order. We have French doors looking out to a scenic backyard so I wanted something that wouldn't obscure my view but not let the sun in. When I called the shade store Tiffany was my first contact. She was so so friendly and helpful. She arranged to have samples sent over to the house and then made an appointment for us to go into the showroom. From the minute we walked into the show room we were treated like VIPs. Tiffany was warm, knowledgeable, patient and answered all our questions. We must have changed our minds ten times and Tiffany bless her heart gave us guidance and through it all with a smile on her face. Mike installed the shades yesterday and he was fantastic!!! There was a man working there today who could not have been more rude to me. I was waiting to be helped by him while he was helping another customer. After about 5 minutes, he kicked me out of the store and told me he didn't know how much longer he would be. I told him I would wait, but he very rudely said not too. No other explanation. Unfortunately their product didn't work for me as I wanted 1 motorized shade for my slider. The width of my slider was too large and I would have had to purchase 2 shades. Highly recommend using The Shade Store. I live in New York, but Tiffany handled my order after I submitted a request online. Tiffany was very helpful and professional and handled my order flawlessly. I travel frequently for work so we communicated primarily via email (rather than playing phone tag) which was convenient and much appreciated. Tiffany sent fabric samples and created a projection of the shades onto a photo of the window I provided. I also stopped in to a showroom in San Francisco while on a trip, and the team there answered all of my questions. The New York team that came to my place to measure and then install the shades were professional, worked quickly, and were all around great. The shades are expensive, but the quality is high and the ease of ordering, getting questions answered, and installation made it worth it for me. read more

Our first impression was a walk by the store and walk in. Dazzled by the very impressive display and warm greeting, we ordered. We are very much at fault for not doing research and investigating other options. Our experience started the second week of February. We were given a look at different options and explained what we were looking for. We found the color we liked and ordered our motorized shade. The store let us know we had an option of wired and battery operated. I didn't like the idea of having to recharge so we went with wired. I assumed these were low voltage and we had power right next to the window so it should be a relatively easy installation. In the first week of March, they came and measured for us - we were set, or so we thought. We got a call saying that they couldn't do the fabric we liked in a 9 foot long roll but we had other options and they sent us new swatches. We picked a second favorite. We stopped by the store again prior to ordering and spoke with another design consultant (we brought a photo of our window with us) to explain our situation and she mentioned it would be a better idea to split the shade into 3 shades because of the chance of warping. Apparently the material has the potential to warp if the roll is too long. We had to add a valance as well because the motors aren't the prettiest to look at. Fair enough, we reordered our new shades, now significantly pricier, but at least we were back to our old fabric. The shades arrived the first week of April with installation set a for the week of April 9. Installer arrived and shades went up quickly and straight with one caveat, each shade had it's own power cord. The power cords are huge and very unsightly. To make matters worse there is no way to hide them. He mentions that power to one of the shades won't reach the outlet due to it's being cut too short and drags the cord diagonally across the window. As he's cleaning up, I asked why he was leaving and he said he was done. Enormous cords hanging down in front of the windows with one stretched straight across. I said you can't leave it like this and he said he's not an electrician but he'll contact customer support to let them know. I asked him if it could be wired in series to at least alleviate some of the dangling cords and he mentioned he didn't know but he'd ask. He also mentioned that he thought the store would change the motors to battery and he'd ask about that as well. Two weeks went by and we didn't hear from customer service so we emailed. They told us this was our fault for ordering the wired option and we had been given the choice; all true. What we were not told was that the wired option had cables the size of home plumbing and that nobody could answer our questions regarding serial wiring, which to this day we still have no answer. We reluctantly opted for battery and we waited with dangling cords for another two weeks. A month after our first installation our installer returns with the battery motors and removes the old ones. He tells us that they forgot to include some parts, including the recharging cables, and we couldn't lift them all the way because the cables could tear into the blind. The installer once again mentions that he would reach out to customer service. 10 days after that, we reach out again asking what happened to finishing the job with the right parts, and they mention they didn't know we were waiting on them. So, here we are two months after our purchase. We still don't have a working solution. The shades are not cheap by any standard. Cost almost as much as the custom built window they are covering. The shade(s) look reasonably nice, but they are still just motorized roll up shades. We paid for a product AND a good experience and one without the other made the whole process unnecessarily cumbersome, long and expensive. Today (a week after waiting for parts they forgot to include) we received our rechargers but only one motor cover. So, the problem is the same we can't lift our shades without the danger of the exposed wires tearing into them. Parts were forgotten again. After pairing the new rechargeable ones, we noticed our left most shade operates in reverse so now, up is down and down, up. So, after my long review, I conclude with my existing point, please do your research and shop around. Our mistake was being dazzled by a beautiful store and very friendly sales people. Sadly, follow up and finish, didn't measure up. read more

If it were possible to give a 5 for the in-store experience and a zero for the installation experience I would. Robbie at the Woodland Hills store has been wonderful. She initially helped me with my small kitchen shades and they turned out just how I wanted. I went on to order window treatments for a larger multi-panel sliding glass door. I made an appointment for measurements, took a morning off work, and was then stood up for the appointment. While annoyed, I assumed this was unusual and proceeded with rescheduling. A new crew came out, took measurements, and the window treatments were made. When they came for the installation, we discovered my ceilings were crooked and I needed a specialized cornice. This was ordered and delivered.... and then the nightmare began. I have now been attempting to schedule an installation for at least 6 weeks. The installation team calls me to schedule. I remind them I need 2 installers due to the size of the treatment (somehow they don't realize this when they call). They tell me they do not have 2 installers available and that they will call me back later that day. They don't call back as promised. A week goes by, and they call again, and we start the entire conversation all over again from scratch, and I end up waiting another week for a call back with the same outcome. Last week, I offered to take a day off work to accommodate their installers and they didn't call me back - again - to finalize the scheduling. I am beyond frustrated, and have a poorly installed cornice in my home that I spent thousands of dollars on. We'll see if they ever resolve this. Long story short: if you have a simple project and can be available to accommodate the installer's limited schedule, perhaps this is a good company for you. If you actually have commitments outside the home and cannot wait around indefinitely for them to service you at their convenience, find another company. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. I initially ordered over $5000 of blinds for a new home. They arrived and four pleated blinds did not work and went up and down crookedly. I was told in time they would go up and down and and I needed to wait, fold them daily and leave them open most of the time. Then ALL the magnets on the blinds came undone. It took a month to get the first service person--- who said the material was "crap" and they always break. He didn't have all the pieces to fix so we ended up having three visits. They still dont work! A few month later the metal chain on another window shade broke in two. I called to get it fixed and they said the wait time was a month for a service call. In the meantime it was impossible to open or close the shade. We were told that this should be expedited because of past issues and someone would call. No one did. I called back and was told it would be fixed and they would bring in outside tech within a couple days. No return call. I got three emails saying I should call to set up service and each time they had a month wait for a tech. EACH time someone said they would find a solution and get back to us. Not ONCE did anyone call back. This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. As the prior W. Coast Bureau Chief for InStyle Magazine --- and the person coordinating over 200 events for Hearst/Esquire house I have dealt with hundreds of designers. This quality of the materials here are horrific but more troublesome is the inexcusable customer service -- or lack of customer service. There is no bargain going to The Shade Store. They products are poorly made and getting them repaired seems simply impossible. read more
