If you had any question that this place is an Irish pub, you will receive the answer with a big Irish and Jameson flag draped proudly as you enter the bar. We love that leashed and friendly dogs are allowed, but only before the night life begins, so get there when they open to enjoy a drink from their full bar, play pool, watch the game, bring your own food, and meet some super cool people. There is a space up front with one bar and a back room with another bar, so plenty of space to enjoy some dog friendly fun! We love that there were a few other dogs enjoying New Years celebrations and it makes us happy that they all met at a local dog park. The staff is great and always checking-in. Solid party with lots of fees. On weekends, The Shannon is one of the few bars in Hoboken that plays Hip-Hop all night. They charge a cover for entry of $10, which isn't common in Hoboken. When you get inside, it has a bar in the front and huge dancefloor in the back with a live DJ performing. The bartenders serve pretty quickly, but that may be due to people not buying drinks frequently or a result of the young crowd that is typically here. They started tacking on a fee for credit card payments also. So, you might want to go with cash. Overall, the Shannon is a good party option if you like Hip Hop and are cool with the young and hood crowd. However, since they charge a bunch of fees that other bars in Hoboken don't it loses stars - after all, it's just a dive bar. I love The Shannon! It's a nice bar that usually plays pop/edm music. I didn't know they provide games (on weekdays I think) until I visited on a Monday with my girl friends. We played several rounds of pool ($1 per game) and it was so fun. We had beers for the time we were there. The bartender was nice and worked quickly. It wasn't too busy since we were there pretty early but it did get busy toward midnight. We decided to go to the back of the place where the games were. They had Jenga and Connect 4. We played the most intense game of Jenga! Such a cool addition to a bar space. You could also change the song that's playing for $1. I've also been to this spot on a weekend and it's a bar with a dance-floor in the back. I love how spacious and versatile it is! read more

This place somehow found a way to get better! I love that they survived the COVID restrictions, because so much of what you go to The Shannon for is indoor shenanigans. Shannonigans? Yes please! If you're the oldest person in the bar, you're probably not that old. If you're the youngest person in this bar, you're probably not old enough to be in this bar. Definitely an early 20-something crowd with a $21 credit card minimum, which is also supposed to be the minimum age for entry, but I'm convinced exceptions are made. Divey with a disgusting bathroom. 4.5 stars... If you come here at the right time this place is as good as it gets. Come here at the wrong time and I'm sure you'll find out why there's all too many negative reviews. That being said me and my girlfriend were here around 5-7pm on Saturday. There was less than 10 people in the front room and nobody in the back room. We sat at the bar drinking our $3 pints of Miller Lite before realizing that beyond the pool table there was a huge back room. This is probably where all the action happens during prime hours with all the fancy screens, lights, and DJ booth but as we had the place to ourselves we didn't have to deal with any of the obnoxiousness that most likely was hours away. The room already had several tables set up for beer pong complete with the cups and ping pong balls ready. There were also three dart boards in great shape and a fuse ball table. An $8 pitcher of beer later it was on. I had a great time with my girlfriend here and would definitely come by again as long as it wasn't crowded. It's worth noting that this place has some great drink specials and vary from day to day. The most impressive of which are 50 cent mugs of beer from 12-1 on Saturdays. It's also worth noting there is a $20 minimum for credit cards but they do have an ATM (though it has a $3 fee). read more

The Shannon is my go to bar in Hoboken for multiple reasons. It's never overly packed like other bars in Hoboken where it's insanely uncomfortable. They have a solid sized bar, dance area in back, and have games to play with friends. Darts, large connect four, large jenga, etc. so you have a blast with a group of friends. I spent my 26th birthday here with about 20 plus friends and had an amazing time. They are also right next door to a pizzeria, which is awesome after having a great night there. The drinks are moderately priced, however the staff is great and you never have poor drinks. I will always head to The Shannon when in doubt and prefer avoiding crowds. read more

Quite a few nights have ended up at the Shannon. The main reason? People just want to DANCE. The back room is huge and always full of drunk people tearing it up on the dance floor. Emphasis on drunk (not that there's anything wrong with that). The problem with all the popularity though is that it can sometimes take up to an hour to get in. I don't care how good a bar is, I don't feel like sobering up for an hour in the heat/cold. If there's no line though, give it a shot! A nice thing about the Shannon is the front room can be a totally different atmosphere. There's a pool table, separate music, and more seating. Unfortunately the prices are high no matter which part of the bar you're in. Do yourself a favor and start the night somewhere else. The bouncer at this bar asked my friend, who was wearing a tank top, to put a shirt on. Not only was he already wearing a shirt, but he calmly said that he would put a jacket on and was then told to get the fuck out, and was followed all the way to the door and forced to leave. I think this is genuinely unacceptable. Girls are allowed to wear tank tops, but if a man does it it's suddenly wrong, and they are too exposed. If tank tops are not appropriate, this should be the rule for both genders. Not only is this discrimination, but it is just a way to perpetuate the hyper sexualization of women. Been here a couple times in the past. It was always the appetizer before the meal that is Lana Lounge. Well guess what...don't bother waiting for dinner, cuz Lana is closed! But that's a different topic for a different day. Every other time we've come here, it's been pretty packed and we've gotten our trademark dance circle going. They have Foosball all the dance floor...pretty interesting. Anyway, came here last night, a Thursday night, first time doing that, and it was kinda sparse. But unlike Iron Bar, people were dancing! The DJ wasn't good until 15 minutes before last call, but everyone managed despite his drastic genre changes. Beer was cheap and Happy Hour was over...we got there at around 12:30 AM...but like I said, beers were cheap. Everyone was dancing except for the dudes who stay on the edge and watch girls dance like a bunch of creeps until they can slip in behind them unnoticed and start that grinding thing. Which happened to a girl in our party...but I came in and took her away from her aggressor with some ball room dancing. Yeah, I dance in any style while I'm in the club...I also play knight in shining armor when it's needed. There was no line last night, but there usually is. Looking to watch the World Cup final in Hoboken. The usual spots are full well before the game starts. We wander into the shannon. Inexplicably, there are tables available with a great view of the 5 massive TVs. Over the next 30 mins, the bar fills up. But the manager was quick like a bunny - dragging extra tables in from another room and welcoming all who had been kept out of the more commercial bars. So glad we wound up here!! I've come here twice - once on a Friday night and once on a Saturday night. Both times I had a blast. The DJ plays good Top 40s music and some EDM, as well as 90s/early 2000s throwbacks. There's also a good crowd of people - some dressed up and some dressed more casually (it is a sports bar). The dance room in the back is spacious and there are people who go around to clean up spilled drinks so the floor never gets that gross sticky feeling that there is at other places. The bouncers outside are polite and I love that there is no cover. Prices at the bar are fine (before 10pm it's $5 for all drinks, but I've never gotten here before 11pm). Bartenders are nice and they'll give you water, even if you don't order something else (tipping is nice though). read more

Tried to enter just now (Monday night) and it was surprisingly "packed to capacity" as the dipshit bouncer put it. Understandable, but as my friends were inside I waited outside to see if I could enter after some people left. Three people walked out and a couple (who had not previously been in) walked ahead of me and get in. The dipshit doorman (I refer to him now as a doorman because bouncer implies he's intimidating, which he was not at all) again refuses me entrance, despite me arguing basic math. As I ask for a manager the guy slams the door in my face. At that point, I just refuse to enter and give this place my business. I've traveled all over the world and been to all types of bars and clubs. Never have I seen such incompetence and disrespect at the door. Great local bar! The Shannon has impressively adapted to Covid restrictions, yet still maintains the same lively atmosphere and service. The versatility of activities offered (which are starting to come back with the restriction lift phasing-hooray!) makes this bar a top-tier choice for a group of friends who want to take advantage of drink specials and buckets with the options to do it all- watch a game, play pool/darts, or dance. Though they don't serve food, you are open to order for delivery or bring your own.... I usually go for Imposto's pizza or Chipotle which are both steps away. I am absolutely disgusted by the Shannon. My friends are all regulars who live in Hoboken, but every time I come to visit we also stop there. Even during the pandemic they would try and go to give them business. Last night we went, first time with all restrictions lifted and pretty much we got "cut off" and we all were so confused bc it was early and we def weren't drunk. So I asked for the check bc if you're not going to continue serving us then I want to pay so I can leave and take my business elsewhere. Then the bartenders told me it was the owner who told them not to give us drinks. So I didn't make a scene but said ok whatever. Then the bartenders kept coming over and apologizing (red flag #1) and said it wasn't us it's them and points to our friends that were with us who are lesbians. I was like oh?? They're really not drunk. We were just casually sit at the bar with like no one around. Right before we left the bartender came out from behind the bar and handed me the check and apologized again. Came here to get drinks and to play games- definitely worth coming!! I love the hidden room in the back for people to play games- there's connect 4, giant Jenga, beer pong, darts, and etc. There was also space to dance, at least the day when I was there which was a Sunday before Memorial Day! The music was really good and it wasn't crowded at all. For those who like sports, you can sit at the front section and there are a bunch of TVs. There is a door in between both sections and it's a perfect setup. I will definitely come back!! read more
