Came here on a quiet Wednesday afternoon to grab a drink in peace. It's truly a dive bar vibe. Decent selection of drafts and a hip staff serving drinks. I enjoyed sitting near the window to get a glimmer of sunlight while responding to emails. Happy hour deals are not too bad either, though I didn't bother with any food. But definitely a lot of character and fun vibes to this place. I recommend residents, tourists, etc. to at least stop by for a drink. read more

I've been attending the Lucky 7 bbq-- both as a musician and in the crowd -- for over 5 years. I've seen it grow, evolve, and consistently deliver some of the most inspiring live performances in Jersey City. Dancing Tony is the best for keeping the JC hopping with music. But this year, a dark stain on that otherwise vibrant experience came from Lucky 7 bar itself. Let's be clear -- this wasn't just a case of being busy or understaffed. This was blatant, willful ignoring of anyone who didn't fit a very specific mold. Myself and several others waited patiently (and obviously) at the bar, cash in hand, only to be passed over again and again while bartenders prioritized regulars, deep-pocketed bros, and the kind of performative hipsters who drink PBRs out of obligation like their hot topic t-shirt to a punk band way beyond their years. What's worse: there was no acknowledgment, no "we'll be right with you," not even a glance. Just a pointed refusal to serve anyone who didn't register as familiar, flashy, or fashionable. Or, who knows what reason. We gave up after 15 minutes. Luckys is a great a dive bar that's lived through the different incantations of the JCs arts scene but the bartenders working during the festival this year, particularly the woman, worked with a particular set of blinders that you had to bow down to. Came here with the fiancé while he had a meeting. The place went from basically empty to packed within minutes, but then again who doesn't want to be at the bar on a Saturday afternoon? Reminded me of some of the college bars I have been to (and that was an eternity ago). A group of runners ended up coming in and basically took up the place. We had a table so it didn't really bother us but if you're looking for a quiet place I would say go elsewhere. I stuck with cranberry and vodkas while the fiancé had Modelo. This place ain't fancy, but it will get you drunk on the cheap. Lucky 7 is a popular neighborhood bar where locals of all ages come for $4 shots and vodka cocktails. The decor? Straight dive bar. They have darts in the back, a digital jukebox, and sometimes a live DJ on the weekends to add a little energy. They have limited table seating and ample bar seating. The only thing that isn't so awesome is when people Bogart the tables and prevent people who want to order food from sitting. While were on the topic of food, it's actually great! The Philly Cheese steaks are wild delicious and drenched in cheese sauce, and the wings are awesome. They also serve the wings with a ton of different flavor sauces so if you are. Wings addict like I am, then you will be in heaven. The bartenders are cool and get the orders right. There was a cute female bartender here that is always helpful and on top of things but I forgot her name. Shout out to you. You don't come here for a date, you come here with friends to get drunk quick and make some new friends in the process. Correction, you can come here for a date as long as you open with a bunch of cheap fireball shots to dull their senses of the college bar vibe going on. If you like cheap alcohol and a nice space to chill in, then Lucky 7 is the place to be. They got sweet happy hour deals (ex. PBR and a shot for 5 ) and some pretty good bar food (even for a dive bar). I've been living in Jersey City for a few years, and this is the go-to spot to watch a game or just hang with friends. Don't let the outside fool you, the place has alot of character to it, with tons of decorations, a dart board, and even a jukebox if you wanted to sing some tunes (best nights are Fridays or Saturdays when everyone starts joining in). The perfect dive bar. Everyday they have some sort of special going on. Can always get a cheap drink made well. Bartenders are nice and attentive. They have TV's playing various things through our (old music videos, movies). Music is good. I low key love this place. They are always so friendly even though I amanita from this area. I came here three times. One of the bartenders is super nice. The other one are nice too. They are all so helpful. Specials every night after 8PM and they have pretty good food! The tater tots are perfectly fried. The range of barbecue sauces is impressive. So when I moved to jersey city I was warned by mostly every person of color rather black, pr, dr, even Indian ppl I would meet to not go there the management is racist is is a staple for mistreatment when it comes ppl from my and similar backgrounds. I don't take ppl opinions as facts so I went myself and for a few it was a nice spot, until someone called me a nigga, asked to fight, and then I was banned. I would recommend, nice spot, chill people and good vibes. However, this one bartender in particular rubbed me the wrong way. He is an older gentleman with gray hair. As me and my girlfriend were politely trying to get his attention, we were ignored multiple times. Given the bar was busy as it was Halloween eve, this could have been understandable. But after being blatantly ignored, we persisted trying to get his attention, still politely. After a few more tries, this man turned around and went nuts. He started screaming at us and waving his hands like a maniac. I thought that was quite rude! What a guy. I don't think this bartending business is for him. Super divey and unpretentious, amazingly cheap drinks and old school dance music that makes the entire bar come alive. Although it's fun to grab a cocktail at one of JC's new hip and chic spots, sometimes all you really want is a 2 dollar PBR and to sing shamelessly to stupid pop songs. The bathrooms are pretty gnarly and I'd assume the food is too, but I'm definitely willing to overlook for the killer music and drink specials. Lucky 7 is a hipster dive bar. In the best possible way. Crowded, dingy, and roaring loud even on a weeknight. Canned old-school beer (we're talking Shaffer's) for $2.50. A pint of something craft-y or imported (like a Shiner Bock or Guinness) won't run you more than $6. And a wall of whiskey to suit the discriminating drinker. Throw in a jukebox and some surprisingly good eats (specializing in BBQ with some house-made sauces) and you get one of the best neighbourhood joints in all of downtown. The "Dexter's Laboratory" look alike bartender f***ed me tonight. And no, its not what you think. I woke up from my nap to mentally prepare for work tonight. I wanted something to eat and decided to get something from Lucky 7s. I checked out their menu online and noticed their sandwiches. At first sight, I checked out their sandwiches but there was no description so I called. A guy by the name I think he said "Ryan" picked up. I asked him to tell me what was in four sandwiches. He sounded annoyed but told me anyway. Then he asked me if there was any info on the sandwiches online. I told him I didn't see it and if I did I wouldn't have called to ask. Once I placed my order ("Unlucky chicken with a side of chipotle mayo") he told me it would take forty minutes. Forty minutes??? I was confused but ok with it. I was hungry. I browsed the site a little more and noticed on the upper left hand corner there was a "full menu" link and there were descriptions. I felt bad and was going to apologize for the mishap once I saw him. In fairness, he could have told me where online to look but I digress. I watched a little tv then after maybe twenty minutes, I decided to walk over to Lucky7s. As soon as I walked in, I noticed there was a crowd and take out was waiting at the end of the bar. I figured it was mine because I saw chipotle mayo sitting on top of a foam container. I asked the bartender I'm here to pick up my order and "Ryan" told me that my order wasn't ready yet. I was cool with that because he did tell me it would take forty minutes. For the record, I still can't believe that but whatevs. I sat at the bar, watched a little baseball and started to wonder if my chicken was putting up a fight in the back. It was a ridiculously long wait. And then....something happened. After another twenty minutes, Ryan walked over towards the foam container with the chipotle mayo sitting on top and looked at it. Then he looked at me. Then he got a plastic bag, put the food in the bag and said to me... "That will be $8.50." Bwahahahahaha!!!! Where are the cameras? This got to be a joke. Ryan is so lucky that I have a lot to live for and I value my freedom. I have a great job, beautiful condo, my health, great friends, etc. Because if I didn't, I would have gouged his eyes out a la "Beatrix Kiddo" (watch Kill Bill...dope scene). Located a couple of blocks from the Grove street path station, this bar is housed in the middle of the residential apartments. It is one of the bars in the neighborhood which is open till 3 am on the weekends. The place has a typical look and decor of a dive bar. They have a couple of TV screens for all the sport lovers.This is place filled with the locals and hipsters.I don't know why but almost everybody right from the staff to customers, everybody had tattoos. The drinks are cheap and had a good selection of beers. I would recommend just sticking to beer and avoid ordering wine. read more

The reason we ended up coming here was because we needed somewhere to play Cards Against Humanity, but Barcade and Zeppelin Hall opened at 4pm whereas this spot opened up at our preferred start time: 3pm. So we went here. My first time. And I loved it. Jayne our bartender was awesome and very social. She let us try a lot of beers and knew the story behind all of them. The happy hour was pretty good. We left and came back later that night and I guess everyone liked the Ladies Night specials too because it definitely picked up in there. I know Jersey City very well, but I always grabbed a drink at the typical spots...Zeppelin, Barcade....I need to check out White Star and all the other gems scattered about. I do know the best hidden food spots though :-p OMG speaking of food, the tater tots here were amazing! And the music was great too. This bar is right down the block from me and it's an awesome after work spot. I've been here a couple times now and on Fridays they have awesome specials and every day for that matter! Vodka mixed drinks are only $4, so that's what I go for! Also, I've had the jalapeño poppers, fried pickles and my friend had the burger. All were very good. They own another restaurant and so they get the same food for this dive bar and a regular sit in restaurant! You can't beat it. The reason for the four stars is because it is a bit dingy. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. I will definitely be back for many more Fridays...especially if I'm still working where I am right now. read more

This place is pretty good for what it is: a dive bar. The staff is friendly. For the most part, the crowd is friendly. Definitely some meatheads, but yeah...it's a dive bar. The drinks? Cheap and strong. The pub grub? Awesome. Also, TVs...many TVs. I saw the Giants win the 2010 World Series here! Go Giants. I'm really close by, so, honestly, I've not used their bathroom. Ann L's review does sort of scare me. However, no one puts their hands in the fryer to get fries nor do they have to touch anything while mixing me a drink. Came here after a yelp event since it was suggested as a great local dive bar and MAN were we happy we came. As soon as we walked through the doors, everyone started talking to us and making us feel welcome. It really was such an amazing atmosphere. We were lucky enough to grab two bar stools along the side. They have GREAT drink specials pretty much any day that you go. We came on ladies night Thursday. I paid $3.75 for a vodka club- UM YESSSS!!! This place has it going on, and I cant wait to come back! I just wish it was a tad bit bigger of a location but other than that, no complaints! read more

The lack of a stage or any real room to setup is the only reason I took away a star. The draft beer selection was just great- what was on tap was tasty, cold, fresh, the lines were clean. Prices are very good, you can go here even f you're not flush and feel like you had a great night and didnt blow the rent money. Stumbled into this place today and there was sand everywhere lol so already it was awesome, it was beach party themed weekend, had a flight of Brooklyn drafts, only had 4 options cause the rest of the kegs were kicked which sucked but overall service was great and the vibe was chill, the menu looked good too for some bar food, would definitely return ! read more

Lucky 7 is pretty much the classic dive bar in Jersey City. As others have noted it looks a bit scary from the outside. Like a dingy bar that probably has a few bodies buried in the back. I haven't been out back to check for bodies so I can neither confirm or deny, but the place is usually packed--especially on weekends. Interestingly enough it isn't packed with one demographic, as yuppie, hipster, young people and old people all congregate here. Everyone is friendly though. Drinks are cheap across the board, and even cheaper when you factor in specials. Never had the food so I can't comment there. Service is surprisingly good, although the place is packed and it can be difficult to get someone's attention. My advice is to come here with a small group of people who are as broke as you, so you can carve out some personal space for yourselves. I'm not a big dive bar person but even I have to admit this is a decent option if you're looking to get drunk in Jersey City. Don't judge a book by its cover. read more

Excellent dive bar across the river (depending on your POV, I guess). They have revolving specials, such as the awesome $3.50 Shiner Bock deal when I was there. Also, shot and beer/shot combos. The crowd was more mixed than I expected, with limited but obvious hipsterism punctuated by a cute tattooed bartender, but also bros, geeks, broke college grads, and neighborhood types. Nice music, plenty of seats during evening hours (probably on account of St. Patrick's pilgrimage into the city), and good vibe. read more

More neighborhood bar than dive bar. A bit of a walk from city hall, but only 5 minutes from Porta (just for reference). Good specials outside of happy hour, although they don't start till 8pm. The food was typical fried bar food, but the tater tots were a happy alternative to fries. We shared the sweet potato tater tots with spicy sauce. Husband ordered the chicken fingers and I ordered the tuna melt. Both were good. May have stayed a bit longer if the juke box was on and it wasn't so hot inside. read more

It is a small bar but I have not been able to visit any other bar in jersey city that gives off a really good vibe. The crowd is good, and we love Tim! We miss this place during this covid !
